No hot water. We booked 3 rooms for 6 people and in each room it was the same. All of us had tepid showers. :( There was no communication between the evening staff and the morning staff. We signed up and paid for 5 breakfasts and they tried to charge us again in the morning for 6 breakfasts :(

On the positive side, it was super close to the cruise port and the shuttle to the port in the morning ran smoothly. There was a good choice of restaurants near the hotel.

We made a reservation ten months in advance. Less than a week prior to our reserved stay, we were informed by the hotel that they were overbooked. We were given an option to cancel or stay at a 'resort' of their choice that was 10 miles further out from the cruise port. The 'resort' they chose was very rustic and we were treated very well.

The front desk person was always on the phone. We were in the middle of checking in and the phone rings and we have to wait for 5 minutes. Same exact thing happened to us when we checked out. He wasn’t helpful about ways to get to the port earlier and we tried to cancel our shuttle. He claimed he didn’t know how to process a credit???

Look elsewhere! This hotel is tired in every way - furniture, carpet, paint, showers, etc. Beyond that, we had to climb up and down an open staircase to get to the bed from the bathroom. Suboptimal if you have an aging bladder. We stayed here for one night prior to our cruise departure thinking we were checking into a 4-star hotel. It’s 2 stars at best.

It did not start off well, I requested separate beds, and was given one bed. When I mentioned it to the desk clerk I felt that his response was negative and unacceptable. Eventually we got the separate beds.
Prior to checking out, I was told of the additional cost of staying here as an added tax. This practice should be made transparent, especially when booking through Hotels.com

The room we were assigned was terrible, dirty bathroom, narrow, two levels bathroom down stairs, dangerous starecase to go to the upper section with the bed. They should never use this room for guest. On top of this the bed was small and the mattress probably 20 years old. Asked for 10am shuttle and was put on 11am shuttle which was late. Understaffed. Was probably nice hotel years ago but not today.

Arrived early. Left my bag and came back at chech in time. The bag was brought to my room. Room was clean. Great sleep after a long travel day. Perfect start to day with a good breakfast and a cappuccino. The hostess was couteous and friendly. The desk staff here is excellent. Always stay here before a cruise.

The reason for our low rating is because we booked this in Jan 2025 and then 2 days before our arrival in October they emailed to say they had overbooked and had to move us to another location (this new place was 25 minutes out of town - with nothing nearby). They did provide a shuttle but that hardly makes up for our being no where near Civitavechio where we had planned to visit and were not able to do so. I have no comment about the hotel itself.

We booked our reservation several months in advance, however due to an overbooking error, we learned a few days prior to our arrival that we were reallocated to a neighboring hotel. Unfortunately the hotel they put us in wasn’t the same standard. But after 26 hours of travel we were happy to have a bed. The problem here is that they can take the reservation, they just can’t hold the reservation (nod to Jerry Seinfeld). Not sure I would book this hotel at the risk of being a reallocated to what felt like a Motel 6.

We had booked this hotel months in advance for our cruise - they cancelled it days of arrival. They offered a rebooking with another hotel that was very low standards and secluded. After reading other reviews they seem to do this often.
The other property had bed bugs and little flying misquotes. We would not recommend this hotel

Booked 6 weeks in advance and a few days prior was told the hotel was overbooked. San Giorgio offered a refund or alternative lower class hotel 15 minutes away into the hills. Looked online and hotel we were moved to was half the price of the San Giorgio. Pretty good scam, book for 2xx /night and stay at another hotel that costs 1xx per night. Found two other couples at the hotel who had the same situation. Buyer beware!

Elevator smelled horrible!!! Carpet did not fit and was clearly molded. Original room assignment was 2 floors with a metal spiral staircase. Carpet was in terrible condition and appeared dirty and faded. Bedroom was inconvenient and horribly hot. Furniture was too large for the room and you could not access the bed on one side. While I am handicapped I don’t need an accessible room but I could not navigate the staircase. We changed our room and everything was better. Newer carpet, no odor and on one floor. Breakfast was expensive at 10 euro each. Coffee was warm at best and the food selection poor. Basics only. However when you are in an unfamiliar country with not much around you take what you can get. Wait staff seemed short handed. After spending the day in Rome we stopped in the restaurant for ice cream which was advertised on the sign outside the hotel. After 20 minutes with no one coming to the table we left. The online pictures make the hotel seem far more grand than it is and all in all it was disappointing. Yes, we knew it was and old structure but did not expect what we received for something considered a 5-Star. I think it all depends where you are standing in the world as to the rating. We survived but would not recommend. The day we left for the ship there was yet another additional rather large fee.
I can understand the lack of free shuttle service from the Rome airport, well over $100, but the shuttle to the ship should have been included in the stay.

If you need a place to stay short term in civitavecchia this is an excellent choice. The hotel is conveniently located in the town . The property is immaculate. The staff is extremely helpful . The rooms are clean. The price is reasonable. The area is convenient to restaurants,shopping and the rocky beach. The area is safe to walk.

While the building is older it is very well attended and very pleasant. Great air con beautiful spacious bathroom and comfortable bed.
Mateo at the desk was very helpful but poor fuy was so busy in the morning they could probably use with one more staff to help.
The elevator at entrance for suitcase doesnt work well and its very inconvenient having to walk up w heavy suitcases. Worth looking into as it was the only negative part of my stay.
Also the 2 ladies at the bistro bar were delightful and very helpful with directions etc.

The bed was uncomfortable, Also, I completed a form with flight information, .my telephone number, and account number for transportation for 3, total $197.93 the bus went on the incorrect day, the hotel refused to credit me any of the money towards transportation on the correct day, I was required to pay and a additional $173 all of this before I even arrived in Rome.

Interesting and unique hotel. Very convenient to cruise port in Civitivecchia.
Very ornate lobby.

The hotel lobby is NOT accessible. One has to climb a very lengthy steep staircase.
There is an elevator for luggage but not for guests.

Our room had a beautiful view. However, there was no kettle or coffee maker.
When i asked about this, was told thst each room had different amenities. I would have preferred a coffee maker to the view.

Also, our Air conditioner and several electrical outlets did NOT work. I spoke several times to the front desk staff about this on the evening we checked in. The desk clerk had no idea how to resolve the issue and stated there was no one there to check or fix it. As there was no A C I did not sleep well.
The next morning when i went to use the hair dryer after washing my hair in the shower and neither the hotel hair dryer or my own would work in the bathroom electrical outlet or one near the bathroom, I called to COMPLAIN !!! I was furious.
The same useless clerk as before came to our room. He didn’t have a clue as to how to resolve the problem.
This was now a crisis !! I had to DEMAND that something be done IMMEDIATELY as I needed to blow dry my hair. He called a person from house keeping. A lovely young lady came. She immediately knew what the problem was.
There was an electrical breaker switch that needed to be reset. Once she did this, all the electrical outlets worked. Both the Hair dryer and the Air Conditioner worked.

The staff is so friendly, they made us feel very welcomed. The breakfast offering was a great deal for the price. They had a few American foods for breakfast such as eggs and bacon but the entire buffet was great. They make great cappuccino as well. We also had a wonderful dinner at the Bistro.

We booked transfers from the airport to the hotel directly through their website and our bank was charged. The hotel maintained that they had no record of our booking and would not acknowledge proof to their face that the money had been paid and we should take it up with our bank. So we had to make yet another transfer with another transfer company to get to the hotel . Not cool and not professionally handled.

Upon arrival we were disappointed to find out that our room was a a two level, steep staircase leading to the only bed in the room! bath and sitting area below. Asked to switch to a one level room but were told that there were none available. Shuttle to airport was booked so we were stuck schlepping our bags all the way to the port shuttle and waited nearly an hour for it to arrive . Not a great experience and the staff at the San Giorgio was not committed to assist with any of our needs. NEVER AGAIN!
