Tiny en ensuite spoilt stay. Whilst dog facilties good - absolute rip-off £30 extra! Hotel will be renovated/refurbed and our room de-commissioned but overall cost of £220 outrageous for a room worse than Premier Inn/Travelldge.
Food and surroundings though were good. Such a shame and whilst receptionist at check out had read my note about ensuite did nothing.
Very very poor value.

This is an excellent country hotel, about 1.5 miles down a lane from the main a1, it’s quiet and peaceful and although in need of refurbishment, which it’s getting after November this year, is still extremely nice. The rooms are old fashioned but comfortable and warm ( when you work out how to turn the heating on (why don’t they tell you?)): staff are wonderful and the food is excellent. Breakfast is really good with continental and cooked meals, evening meals are brilliant, they seem a little expensive until compared with neighbouring restaurants after checking, but the variety and quality is really exceptional. Service is good, efficient but not over friendly, and exactly as it should be. The extensive grounds provide the perfect backdrop to this hotel. I highly recommend it, but hope that the alterations and extensions starting this November, don’t spoil the experience.

Our room was very dusty.
Furniture old, tatty and mismatched. Bed was very lumpy and uncomfortable. Stains on bedding. Bathroom not clean and we complained about toilet which was black from water line down.
This was cleaned later.
Food basic often running out of poor buffet breakfast.
Definitely not worth the money we spent.
Bar was not manned we had to find someone to serve us.
No information book in our room and receptionist miserable.
Would not recommend and will not return.

The staff was ok unfortunately the rooms was very old and not clean I could not wait to get out of my room bed was terrible.

The food was not good I had to send my steak back twice and then order something different all my family had eaten there dinner and I had to eat on y own £12.00 for a pudding.

The waiter took off his service charge of my bill but I still had to pay fall price for a meal I did not enjoy due to my steak not being cooked correctly and then in the end having chicken

The bill was £181 honestly we stayed in a place in loc ness and the service and food and prices was amazing it was clean and food was great and they did a amazing job but unfortunately this place was not good 😌

Myself and other family members had the great pleasure of staying at Eshott Hall for a couple of nights. While the occasion was a sad one due to a family bereavement, every single member of staff made the pain less, professional and sensitive service, attention to detail and an empathetic attitude, simply superb. We stayed in the Grange and it was lovely, the food was excellent and the setting impressive. Highly recommend, we will definitely stay again.

Although the Hall is near the A1, it is a hidden gem. The building is beautiful inside and out and our stay was a little bit of luxury for a special occasion.

Delightful accommodation.We went in the grange with two dogs and we had plenty of space in our room with a super size bed and a separate bathroom. Lots of parking, plenty of space to walk dogs.
Breakfast was first class. We had superb Eggs Benedict, but also had salami, cheese, croissants and pain au chocolate. There was also cereals, fruit, yogurts etc in offer.
Location is great for all major towns and smaller places, like Rothbury.

We had a fabulous stay at Eshott Hall. The accommodation is incredibly comfortable, clean and accessible. Staff were excellent and the food superb. The location is great too, incredibly peaceful and less than 15 minutes from beautiful beaches. Highly recommend.

We didn't even stay because our room was that filthy… we booked another hotel and left! The room was COVERED in dust, cobwebs, spiders and flies. Right next to your head where you would sleep… The carpet was dirty, walls all marked up, awful lumpy bed and room decor/furniturefrom the early 1900’s. Disgusting conditions for a ‘4*’ hotel.. Cleaner conditions at a hostel.

We recently returned to Eshott Hall for the fifth time as part of our honeymoon, only to find a noticeable decline in the hotel's overall condition. The original room, a familiar choice for us, was dishearteningly thick with dust, featured hairs in the bath, stains on chairs, and dirty carpets. The subsequent room in the main house wasn't any better, with dust, curly hairs in the sink and bath, dusty bed frames, lumpy mattresses, and more dirty carpets.
It's evident that maintenance has been neglected over the past 18 months, both in the rooms and throughout the hotel's internal and external spaces. There was a lack of apology initially, but we hope to hear from the General Manager soon.
Regrettably, this experience has led us to decide against returning to Eshott Hall. It's disappointing to witness a decline in quality and pride in a place we once held in high regard. On a positive note, we were able to secure a last-minute booking at Matfen Hall, saving our honeymoon from further disappointment.

Lovely hotel but poor in other respects

We were disappointed by both the quality and cost of dinner. The main course and desert were at best average and expensive and the wine (£12.50 per 250ml glass) outrageously expensive by comparison with other hotels of similar quality and only reached after three reminders and after we had finished our entrées.

In the morning, we were unable to chec out early until the manager arrived at 9.00am which was unhelpful ahead of a long journey.

The hotel itself is lovely and the staff pleasant however.

The above complaints could easily be rectified.

The hotel is in a very poor condition. The grounds are vast and gardens well kept, however the property needs urgent refurbishment. Everything is broken in the room and there is an general untidness. The rooms are mir fitted to the customers needs, everything is broken, poor workmanship, craked walls and ceiling, sockets positin under furniture etc. The staff were pleasantcenough hoeever needs training. Breakfast prettg poor, hygiene a lot to be desired hardly a 2 and a galf stars coukd be awarded. Pricess are very high i paid as for a 5 stars hotel. Unfortunately we will not return.

A Disappointing Stay at Eshott Hall

We were relegated to the \"Grange\" property some distance away from the Hall itself. Fortunately we had a very busy schedule and did not spend too much time at the hotel because the room was disappointing. The carpet was covered in marks, where, presumably, things had been spilled. The bin was not emptied during the second day. The glasses were not cleaned. There was nowhere in the bathroom to put shaving gear etc. I left mine on the floor. Although the other guests were not noisy, their comings and goinjgs were clearly audible. The TV was a relic of a bygone age.

This was our third stay at Eshott Hall and we honestly cannot fault it. We love visiting and always receive the most warmest of welcomes here. The staff team are absolutely outstanding - Helen, Amanda and Toni in particular. The manager Marisa is professional and personable and takes great pride in both the hotel and her team. The team create a warm environment for you in the most glorious of settings - the Hall itself is absolutely stunning. The grounds are immaculately kept and there is a walled garden and tennis courts. The local walks are picturesque and it’s so close to the A1 - but you definitely need a car. We have stayed in the Main house, the Stables and the Grange and all have been beautifully decorated rooms with 5 star bathrooms. The hotel is dog friendly and they look after him just as well as they do us, with bowls of water and an extra sausage at breakfast :) We love it here, it feels like home and we have already booked for next month for a special birthday celebration.

We stayed only one night sat Eshott Hall, a little anniversary break. We booked a deluxe double room through Expedia. Our room was disappointing and bore little resemblance to the online photos. Though a good size with a large, wood-framed, king bed, two armchairs, a chaise-longue, small dresser and table the decor was depressingly dull. The walls and ceiling looked to be fairly recently painted but the choice of pictures - a haphazardly arranged assortment of faded small drawings mainly of plants - detracted rather than enhanced. Similarly the covering of the seat of the chaise-longue with two unmatched woollen covers hardly helped, though subsequent conversation with the manager revealed this to be a temporary solution to dog damage. The television was small and would offer only a tiny image if viewed from the bed. However, the bathroom was thankfully modern with a large bath and separate shower cubicle. Unfortunately the shower unit itself wasn’t quite so modern and the control ring was unduly stiff. Pressure, however, was excellent. There were bathrobes but no slippers. The view over the garden was pleasant but there was nothing planted in the beds and the tennis court at the end was dilapidated - forget your racquet.

Our party of 4 (in 3 rooms) stayed on the Sunday night of a wedding weekend (wedding elsewhere) prior to returning home early on Monday morning. The welcome was warm, the rooms were lovely and airy, bed extremely comfortable, bathroom huge, peaceful views over the gardens, and the reception rooms (library/bar and lougue) downstairs ideal. We enjoyed a late supper in the dining room and were frankly amazed find, when we left a 5.30am the following morning, a delicious array of homemade breakfast goodies packed for us to take for our travels south. Very impressed. We'd all very definitely stay again if we were planning to be in the area again....and maybe even if we were not :-)

A beautiful country house set amidst trees so you really get that feeling of being away from it all. Our room was spacious ( Bainbridges) has a huge bed, beautiful sash windows that overlooked the walled garden and bath, shower and double sinks. The bed was a little hard but we still really enjoyed our stay. The food both at evening meal and breakfast was excellent and staff attentive without being intrusive throughout our stay. We look forward to visiting again.
If there were any area I would improve it’s just very small things like a hole in one of the lamp shades in the drawing room and a water mark on the cushions in the corridor seating - as I say very minor and didn’t detract from how much we enjoyed our stay

We had an excellent two day stay in the magnificent de-luxe bedroom which was very attractively furnished. As it turned out to be the bridal suite they may have not been concerned about the lighting to read but it could be improved if the bedside lights were changed. The lighting in the room was very low over all. The minor in the bathroom was placed very high so it was difficult for even a tall woman to see, but overall the room was very pleasant and comfortable.

If there is a wedding party do not go! We.were restricted to the dark and gloomy library for drinks and you have to constantly ring for service. Then at 11pm draught beers are no longer available.

Set in ideal location the Hall is very impressive. The walk to the Grange is partially lit , but still very dark.
The rooms in the Grange are all very different and well furnished . However our room has a velux with no blind and as this is above the bed i could not sleep. The mattress needs changing as there was no substance to it. When you sat on it you are almost on the floor. Very disappointed stay.

i would definately recommend this hotel.

food - beautiful
room - great
grounds - very nice/peaceful
staff - attentive, however a little too attentive and no personality - not in an offensive way, only as in not warm - for instance, to formal in the restaurant, sometimes it is nice to move away from formal and to connect to the guests, other than that, host at the front desk was very warm, welcoming and efficient.

Pampered Holiday!

Although we booked and paid with hotels.com in May and received a confirmation email, Eshott Hall did not have a record of our booking when we arrived. However, they were very helpful and gave us an upgrade and reserved the room immediately we showed them the confirmation email. It was a great place to stay - highly recommended. The old manor house is tastefully decorated and the food was excellent. Staff were all really helpful. You will need a car as it is out of the town centre (very narrow road to access the property).

Lovely stay

We had a lovely stay. I was a bit disappointed as I had communicated with the hotel for about a week before. It was my partners birthday and I ordered a birthday cake and asked for it to be in the room for our arrival. Despite assurances this would be the case there was no cake. I had to come down to ask for it however initially no one seemed to know about the cake I had pre ordered? It was eventually located? Bit disappointed with that.
