Hotel room was overall good. Strange setup of a different hotel inside the larger Sofitel hotel.

What was not good is that the Sofitel pool and gym are NOT accessible to guests of the Marsden. Apparently, this used to be the case, but no longer, and the Marsden has not updated their information.

The listing is not correct, and the hotel staff were less than helpful when this was raised - “we are not responsible for the listing on Hotels.com” was the reply.

The location is great, and there is lots to do in the area, but the fact the listing is not correct - we specifically booked it for the pool and gym facilities as well as location - was a disappointment.

The room was spacious and clean.Had to take our bags to the room.No facecloths,tea towels,broken ironing board and the two irons supplied both leaked water..Room not serviced ran out of toilet paper ,tea and milk on first day!!!.View from room 421 was very pleasant.Outside surrounding very pleasant for walking and good restaurants all close by.

Check in was a nightmare, staff lied about confirmed check in time. Room was in need of maintenance, staff were unresponsive, there was little to no cleaning service, room not cleaned or bed made for our 4 night stay.
The hotel is closing in 3 weeks and it is clear the staff have already left or are not interested in delivering service.

There is no service provided … no phone in the room to connect the reception . The toilet got running water all night long …. No aircon provided to the room , it got so hot during the night ( no wonder they provided a tower fan in the room)….and mini fridge is warm . No any condiments ( lotions tooth brush etc) , try to check out at 7:45 am , no one in the reception only a note on the door asked to leave the room card inside of the room …. Then I have to go all the way back to the room again …… really wasted time when you in a rush ….

Room was great value for money, clean and great location, check in was easy. Could have been 5 star but for a few little things, the internet to the TV was intermittent which was annoying. The roller blinds were broken, and the curtains did not go to the floor meaning sun woke us up way too early but great for what we paid.

The hotel is simply not up to scratch. One of the rooms booked the air conditioning didn’t work. The replacement rooms fridge was not able to be used, since you couldn’t close the door due to ice.

Ironically at time of checkin, we were told that a maintenance bond was required if we broke anything - what a joke.

Also, I had to engage in a discussion when I asked for two keys. Eventually we were provided with two keys, which is standard across the industry.

In short there are better hotels in the area.

Booked this as wanted a place near the water and saw a pool in the booking. I got there to find pool is not part of the hotel. I booked it due to having a pool. Plus the room was so hot I sweat and told them to check aircon. I was going to a wedding and was so hot in my room made it difficult to get ready without sweating. One good thing is the view was nice and the room setup was great and bathroom spacious.

The room was very nice and the staff was great. The room was large and the bathtub was a wonderful soaking tub. Important thing to know though...you have to call the hotel when you arrive the first time and have them come let you up the elevator. Once you check in, access to the elevator is easy.

Marsden offers plush rooms at great rates. It was challenging to find (as it is within the Sofitel Hotel with no signage) but once there, we enjoyed the spacious room, comfortable bed and fantastic location.

The bed was comfortable and the tea was nice, and the check-in staff were friendly (although we had to wait quite a while to be met and escorted to the check-in desk which was not on the ground floor). Otherwise, pretty average really. All taps were really bad, very difficult (stiff or seized) to turn on and off. The shower hand set was broken, the TV was extremely slow to get anything and although the instructions said you could watch terrestrial TV, that was not an option.
We tried to get a drink in the bar downstairs and even though there were people sitting in the bar, the waitress would not let us in, saying they were closed. This was at 10.30pm, i.e. not late. (Just in case you're wondering, we are presentable 65 year-olds, and were not inebriated.)

The linen and towels in our room were stained, and the towels were threadbare. The wallpaper was pealing in the bathroom and the tiles in the shower were cracked. My husband tried to iron his shirt: the ironing board was missing a spring and wouldn’t stay upright. The room was stuffy, no matter how high we turned up the cooling it was not comfortable. The only feature to recommend is how close it is the harbour; it was very convenient to get to the ferry and to Sky Tower.

None of the membership deals were applicable. Room was available but the woman didn't allow early check in. The check in process was pretty crap too. Having to ring a number to then have someone come and get you seemed very odd. No exclusivity about it. This shouldve been mentioned upfront rather than a hidden process after paying for it. The glass windows were filthy. The rubbish bins had milk stains on them. The bathroom floors were so gross.

I felt like I was wealthy, staying in a place for the rich but for less then it would have cost me at a motel. I had a lovely room, a balcony, a bath, a comfortable bed and a view of the sky tower. What more could you want from a hotel. Would stay again and will recommend it to others.

We didn’t like that the hotel customer services was so bad.

We had to wait along time to get in and out of the car park

Also no one did room service for us even when we put the note on our bed as they requested. Second night we came home to no body wash, no clean towels and no bed done. It’s simple thing we expect the hotel to do that’s what we pay for.

Also upon checkout we asked for a trolley so I could move our stuff out. They said they will bring it up for me but nothing came. I had to manually go from level 4 make 5 trips to my car and do it.

I say at this hotel regulary for business trips, the last two occasions the A/C system is not working and a fan is provided. On this trip there was no room service until the third day, this is including your bathroom towels being changed. This is not what is expected in a quality hotel of 4 star.

Hotel is really nice. Room was beautiful. The reception is really awkward you have to wait for someone to come and get you from downstairs. We waited for 20minutes before someone from the sofitel hotel scanned us up to the reception because they took too long and then we had to wait outside the reception for them to come. The tv was in a awkward spot not infront of the couch or the bed so had to turn the cabinet around. The toilet flush was really weak had to flush a few times just to flush a little toilet paper down. The location is really good close to a countdown, night market on Friday night and princess wharf. But keep in mind on the weekends most of the shops and cafes are closed in the weekends that are closest to the hotel. But other then those little hiccups everything was really great with our staycation.

It's a very peculiar arrangement Looks like the Marsden Hotel is several floors leased from the much pricier Sofitel with some reprogramming of the elevators to create exclusion from each hotel
The reception is a temporary use of a guest room on the 3rd floor with no free access . You need to phone from the Sofitel for someone to come down and get you - Odd.
Access to, exit from and entry into the Parking area is only possible with a staff member - Inconvenient.
Room was new, clean and generous. Location is great. Staff are thin on the ground, but earnestly trying their best. Some odd arrangements.
