Don’t Stay Here.
Food was bad in restaurant. No variety, bland and they use low grade food to save costs. Poor service.
No hot water in shower. When told, they did nothing.
No air con. They had to bring a fan to the room.
Rooms have twin beds, and haven’t been renovated for a very long time. The bathroom had outdated fixtures.
I am writing to save other people from spending good money on a bad experience.
I will never stay in a Strathmore Hotel again.

In the Highlands we have to accept there is not a huge supply of staff, so if some staff have an unusual approach to hospitality (e.g. \"Can I have a half-of-Guinness? \"No\") try to think of it as part of the Highland experience, 'cos unless Hilton etc. open up here, this is the way it's going to be.
Quirks aside, this was a good base if you need to be in Strathpfeffer.
A surprising lack of eating / drinking options in the village.
I don't think the season had properly started in June. Maybe July.

The hotel was nice and eclectic, however the breakfast really wasn't that great and the place is a little bit dated. Do not try to eat dinner there. Beds are hard. Furniture is old, definitely a wonderful City to stay in. However, you better get there early everything closes at 8:00

This is a lovely old manor house that is used by the bus tour companies. The house and carpets need some TLC as they are worn in places and the paint is a bit chipped. Although functional, the bathrooms could be updated.
The grounds are lovely and it is very quiet- just birdsong. It’s only 40 minutes to Inverness and the village itself has a number of attractions.

The hotel is set in a nice location. Unfortunately our first floor room, as did many others, looked onto an internal roof area which was shabby and dirty. General decor was tired and dated. Food was ok. Could not fault the staff who were friendly and helpful. Room prices did not justify state of the hotel.

Gorgeous place, we loved the building and views, common areas are lovely, dining room is amazing. Staff is friendly and food is very good.
Downsides are:
No ev chargers
Rooms can use some renovations.

Overall it exceeded our expectations and we enjoyed our stay very much.

Very small room, tired ( expected for the price) but clean. The surprise was that we were charged for having an assistance dog with us. Receptionist said everyone with an assistance dog has always paid / this doesn’t make it correct, but just like all the others before me, I paid, as we had a ferry to catch .However it is illegal to charge for an assistance dog.

Room in the attic area- a mix of lift and many different stairs. Very basic 1960's décor and furniture in poor condition.
Breakfast- mass produced for coach parties. Scrambled eggs included lumps which were grey/green colour, which we were told was normal as it had been standing for a long time and nothing was wrong with it.

We has booked dinner on arrival at the restaurant, which ended up as the leftovers from the coach party- extremely small portions, cold and bland-we were offered a free drink as compensation ,which i did not accept and refused to pay for the meals. Staff argued with me about this.
Don't eat here!

Dinner in the dining room was convenient but had very limited menu and took a long time to be seated despite having a booking and it not being full, staff looked at us several times before someone finally came to us. Breakfast was better, fresh tea, coffee and toast. Hand held shower head only in rhe bath but a bath was a welcomed treat

The hotel is very dated but clean and served our needs for a stopover during a motorcycle tour with plenty of parking for the bikes.
Breakfast was plentiful and the haggis was amazing.
Not much to do in Strathpeffer but we found a lovely little cafe a few mins walk away

This hotel largely serves coach parties and is set up accordingly. Consequently it is often affordable to the independent traveler but what you get is the scrag ends left over from the crowd. For instance breakfast is served 7-9.30. We came down at 8.30 and the coffee had ran out so they were serving instant. We gave feedback at check out but the non committal look back suggested we should get over ourselves. If you get a good deal come with the expectations your mum and dad might have had in 1975 and you will enjoy.

This was such a fun place. We were visiting Inverness and wanted to stay in a quieter place outside of town. This turned out to be a hidden gem. The town is so quaint and quiet, we absolutely loved it! The property is an old manner that is beautiful and must have been a beauty in its hay day. It had a few quirks that come with old properties but you have to know you’ll have some of those things if you’re are going to stay in a place like this. The staff was so fun and friendly. We would stay here again in a heart beat.

Everything is just out of date, it’s like going back in the 80’s. It’s a maze of old carpets to reach your room. You can see that many different handy man have patched up everything 100 times. We paid 130 for a family room and it’s way way overpriced. No cot bed, nothing to help with the kids. We could also hear people walking the stairs through our roof at 10 pm. Disappointment…

One thing lead to much being not enjoyable. A weary reception staff person blase attitude. Room we specified had been smoked in - both recent and old stink in carpet. Substitute rm tiny w/ one window - not the mtn view. No consideration for reduction. Tomato/basil soup was canned juice w/ maybe lemon squeeze added. Grateful for tasty sauce on over-baked fish. Bright spot light shining in our window/had to get dressed to ask when it would be off? No hot water in AM when desk knew boiler out the night before. A warning note under the door would have saved that grief. Dog barking in next rm, but all because a not proactive employee.

We were trying to stay on a budget (under $70/night) and explored all the hotels in and around Dingwall. Any that were in our price point had ratings of 7.5 or less, and reviews were always complaints about this or that.
We were coming in January and didn’t want ‘no hot water/no heat’; I had a hire car and didn’t want ‘limited parking unavailable; I didn’t want to hear ‘poor WiFi’. So one of the last ons standing was Ben Wyvis and it was one of the least expensive. So we reluctantly took a chance.

Check in was great, parking was plentiful, the room was reasonable in accommodation and plenty warm, and shower was hot. Room was quiet and building had historical charm. We had a lovely view from our northwest facing room. Meals were fine (dinner was a 6.5, breakfast 7.5 out of 10; yes a tad pricey).

I read all the reviews going back 18 months and can only say that whatever truly negative experiences or circumstances are being presented in the reviews I find to be poppycock. I guess the staff or building could have a bad day, but if it did occur it wasn’t our experience at all. Ben Wyvis was a solid choice and without doubt a good deal. We would stay there again in a heartbeat.
Please note: You’ll need to bring WiFi chargers; pillows are a bit bulky; mattress on the firm side. That is good or bad depending on your taste.

Much better than expected, very friendly staff (from the receptionist to cleaners to breakfast servers), clean, spacious rooms, comfortable beds, tasty breakfast. Only slight downsides were a creaky door and thin ceilings, where we could sometimes hear other occupants, but it didn't stop a good night's sleep.

The property was dated in its bar area old sagging furniture . Very poor choice on menu two pasta and one rice dish no proper local food or vegetables . Ordered wine was brought the wrong bottle . Paid bar bill only to find I had been charged for two bottles of wine and the barman could not give me a refund had to wait until the morning to see a Manager . Barman was not at the bar kept disappearing had to wait 10 to 15 minutes for him to come to the bar and then again the same happened to other people . No way of getting anyone’s attention. Although the next morning there was a bell on the bar which was not there the night before .Room quite small basic ok fir one night but no more . Would not recommend here to anyone

Room was noisy from other inconsiderate guests.
The room wasn't worth the amount paid and booking direct from the hotels own website was £100 more, which given the hotel isn't justified.
Bar area was comfortable, if slightly in need of an upgrade.
Staff we came across were friendly and helpful, but mostly kept to themselves.
On checkout we weren't asked if we enjoyed out stay as it's the little things that count.
Not much to do in the area either.

Although I didn’t have the chance to stay at Ben Wyvis Hotel due to a maintenance issue, I was thoroughly impressed with their commitment to customer service. As soon as the problem was realized, they proactively reached out via email and phone to ensure my tour group was accommodated at a nearby property. They took care of all the details, making what could have been a stressful situation completely seamless.

Thanks to their efforts, we stayed at the Highland Hotel, which turned out to be a lovely alternative. Situated at the top of a hill with views overlooking part of the town, it provided a welcoming and comfortable stay. The staff was friendly and helpful, and the included breakfast was a great way to start the day.

While I can’t speak to the experience at Ben Wyvis firsthand, their dedication to ensuring guests were well taken care of speaks volumes about their hospitality. If I ever return to the area, I’d certainly consider staying with them.

Beautiful location and property grounds, hotel is unique and historic. The room was clean and standard - listed as a mountain view but our windows faced a building. The shower water pressure was quite poor and the room was very warm. We ate dinner and breakfast in the restaurant and the food was fair, but coffee was stale.
The staff were lovely.
We don’t regret our stay here, but we probably won’t book here again.

The grounds and building were excellent. The room was very outdated. No air conditioner so made the room hot even in May. The windows don't have any screens so all the bugs (spiders/mosquitoes/etc) come in. Some of the windows were painted shut. The bed was hard and the pillows were flat. Lighting in the room was very dim. Not many USB connections.
The bathroom was renovated in the \"four post\" room, but still was not up to standard. The tub was so narrow that standing perpendicular your toes will hit the side walls. Water pressure was very low, so showers take even longer.
Carpet in the hallway worn and you can see threads.

Reception staff was helpful and friendly.

It's been a while since I stayed at this hotel. I was pleasantly surprised to find the room facilities ( e.g. bathroom and also the TV's) have been upgraded. Much better now!

Friendly staff, efficient check in and good breakfast. Very happy to stay here again when passing through.

Strathpeffer and the surrounding area are a good alternative to Inverness where hotel prices have just become silly.

Unfortunately for us there was a wedding so hotel guests had to use a separate room for dining etc. This room was cold and few other guests said the same.
We were on the second floor but the music from downstairs was loud plus we had a floodlight that lit our room up, overall disappointing.

It's an older building so you do hear things, and it could use a bit of updating but the staff were lovely, the building had character, there was a restaurant and bar. 2 busloads of tourists were staying, and they had bagpipers entertaining and a 3-piece band in the lounge. We were told the problem was caused by the Scotland water company so the hotel had no control over the issue. A few things were fine, especially the shower (my room was on the 1st floor). But several things were poor - insufficient parking spaces for the number of rooms, very dry overcooked chicken in my dinner main course, poor quality meat products at breakfast, freezing cold bathroom, shaver light did not work and no instructions for thr heating panel. Fortunately,I was able to get the instructions on the internet.

shower in 1st room given didnt work
it should never have been sold to us , were told no other room available at 1st but finally got moved for second night
poor value for money compared to other hotels on our trip

A TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE 1AWFUL ROOMS 3SINGLE BEDSFOR ONE £190 SISTER HAD A BOX FOR£120.POOR SERVICE DINNER WAS FAIR BARMAN DIDNT WANT TO BE THERE.THEN IN MORNING NO HOT WATER TO WASH OR SHOWER.THEY HAVE REFUSED ANY COMPENSATION.A DISGRACE !
