We were trying to stay on a budget (under $70/night) and explored all the hotels in and around Dingwall. Any that were in our price point had ratings of 7.5 or less, and reviews were always complaints about this or that.
We were coming in January and didn’t want ‘no hot water/no heat’; I had a hire car and didn’t want ‘limited parking unavailable; I didn’t want to hear ‘poor WiFi’. So one of the last ons standing was Ben Wyvis and it was one of the least expensive. So we reluctantly took a chance.

Check in was great, parking was plentiful, the room was reasonable in accommodation and plenty warm, and shower was hot. Room was quiet and building had historical charm. We had a lovely view from our northwest facing room. Meals were fine (dinner was a 6.5, breakfast 7.5 out of 10; yes a tad pricey).

I read all the reviews going back 18 months and can only say that whatever truly negative experiences or circumstances are being presented in the reviews I find to be poppycock. I guess the staff or building could have a bad day, but if it did occur it wasn’t our experience at all. Ben Wyvis was a solid choice and without doubt a good deal. We would stay there again in a heartbeat.
Please note: You’ll need to bring WiFi chargers; pillows are a bit bulky; mattress on the firm side. That is good or bad depending on your taste.

Staff are excellent and could not be more helpful. The hotel and room were very clean. Beds are comfortable.
We had fish and chips which was ok, but when we saw someone getting the beef we wish we had chosen that. Would definitely recommend. George and Graeme were the standouts but everyone were lovely.

Grounds of hotel are lovely. Hotel is grand on the outside but needing refurbishment inside. Everything was spotless, if tired. Staff great. Dog friendly which was great for us with our English bulldog Arthur! Would not pass the Ben Wyvis hotel when in or near Strathpeffer.

Much better than expected, very friendly staff (from the receptionist to cleaners to breakfast servers), clean, spacious rooms, comfortable beds, tasty breakfast. Only slight downsides were a creaky door and thin ceilings, where we could sometimes hear other occupants, but it didn't stop a good night's sleep.

The property was dated in its bar area old sagging furniture . Very poor choice on menu two pasta and one rice dish no proper local food or vegetables . Ordered wine was brought the wrong bottle . Paid bar bill only to find I had been charged for two bottles of wine and the barman could not give me a refund had to wait until the morning to see a Manager . Barman was not at the bar kept disappearing had to wait 10 to 15 minutes for him to come to the bar and then again the same happened to other people . No way of getting anyone’s attention. Although the next morning there was a bell on the bar which was not there the night before .Room quite small basic ok fir one night but no more . Would not recommend here to anyone

Room was dusty in parts and generally old fashioned.
Room was noisy from other inconsiderate guests.
The room wasn't worth the amount paid and booking direct from the hotels own website was £100 more, which given the hotel isn't justified.
Bar area was comfortable, if slightly in need of an upgrade.
Staff we came across were friendly and helpful, but mostly kept to themselves.
On checkout we weren't asked if we enjoyed out stay as it's the little things that count.
Not much to do in the area either.

Although I didn’t have the chance to stay at Ben Wyvis Hotel due to a maintenance issue, I was thoroughly impressed with their commitment to customer service. As soon as the problem was realized, they proactively reached out via email and phone to ensure my tour group was accommodated at a nearby property. They took care of all the details, making what could have been a stressful situation completely seamless.

Thanks to their efforts, we stayed at the Highland Hotel, which turned out to be a lovely alternative. Situated at the top of a hill with views overlooking part of the town, it provided a welcoming and comfortable stay. The staff was friendly and helpful, and the included breakfast was a great way to start the day.

While I can’t speak to the experience at Ben Wyvis firsthand, their dedication to ensuring guests were well taken care of speaks volumes about their hospitality. If I ever return to the area, I’d certainly consider staying with them.

Beautiful location and property grounds, hotel is unique and historic. The room was clean and standard - listed as a mountain view but our windows faced a building. The shower water pressure was quite poor and the room was very warm. We ate dinner and breakfast in the restaurant and the food was fair, but coffee was stale.
The staff were lovely.
We don’t regret our stay here, but we probably won’t book here again.

The grounds and building were excellent. The room was very outdated. No air conditioner so made the room hot even in May. The windows don't have any screens so all the bugs (spiders/mosquitoes/etc) come in. Some of the windows were painted shut. The bed was hard and the pillows were flat. Lighting in the room was very dim. Not many USB connections.
The bathroom was renovated in the \"four post\" room, but still was not up to standard. The tub was so narrow that standing perpendicular your toes will hit the side walls. Water pressure was very low, so showers take even longer.
Carpet in the hallway worn and you can see threads.

Reception staff was helpful and friendly.

Things have changed in a good way!

It's been a while since I stayed at this hotel. I was pleasantly surprised to find the room facilities ( e.g. bathroom and also the TV's) have been upgraded. Much better now!

Friendly staff, efficient check in and good breakfast. Very happy to stay here again when passing through.

Strathpeffer and the surrounding area are a good alternative to Inverness where hotel prices have just become silly.

Unfortunately for us there was a wedding so hotel guests had to use a separate room for dining etc. This room was cold and few other guests said the same.
We were on the second floor but the music from downstairs was loud plus we had a floodlight that lit our room up, overall disappointing.

It's an older building so you do hear things, and it could use a bit of updating but the staff were lovely, the building had character, there was a restaurant and bar. 2 busloads of tourists were staying, and they had bagpipers entertaining and a 3-piece band in the lounge. My daughter and I enjoyed our night here.

Room was average in quality but overpriced for what was provided. Dinner menu was clearly designed for the busloads of tourists present. It was limited in scope and imagination and again, overpriced given the range and quality on offer. Breakfast too, was limited in choices and lacked finesse.
This used to be a really good hotel, with excellent cuisine. Sadly, this is no more the case.

We were told the problem was caused by the Scotland water company so the hotel had no control over the issue. A few things were fine, especially the shower (my room was on the 1st floor). But several things were poor - insufficient parking spaces for the number of rooms, very dry overcooked chicken in my dinner main course, poor quality meat products at breakfast, freezing cold bathroom, shaver light did not work and no instructions for thr heating panel. Fortunately,I was able to get the instructions on the internet.

Only slight flaw was the floors were quite creeky, so often hear folk moving around, that said we weren’t woken in the night due to any loud noises and there was a wedding on that evening. Hotel is a tiny bit dated but it’s clean and comfortable. The Bar area could do with dimmed lights in the evenings, some music and candles maybe. But all in all, I loved it

This hotel is an old victorian hotel stayed with family for 3 nights. Breakfast was lovely and really enjoyable the bacon and sausage out of this world!! We had a triple room which was large and very clean.

Please remember this hotel is around 150 years old the odd creaky floorboard old decor and furnishings this was all amazing stay at to many modern hotels this place is ideal good value and makes you smile as so much character cant wait to book next trip here . Location is ideal for trips into the northern highlands .

There's a stone maze up in the woods behind the property. It was an art installation, but still very cool.
The staff was very friendly and gave great recommendations
Though it is a lovely building, we were surprised at how worn is was in areas. We decided this added to the ambiance.
A surprise was, that even though there is a lift to the upper floors, our floor still required us to carry our luggage up and down a few stairs. It wouldn't have changed ours minds about staying here, but we wondered how more elderly patrons would have handled this.
Overall, lovely place to stay for a little peace and quiet. Great country atmosphere

We enjoyed staying in Ben Wyvis. The building is beautiful, well kept, however it needs some updates like beds, furniture in the room. The garden around the hotel is beautiful actually all the Victorian village is lovely.Free parking on the site. The breakfast was a buffet, some things were hot another not really. Fruits from cans. You can choose what you like. Staff was friendly and helpful. We had only one issue, our room was on the 3rd floor and we had not hot water all morning! There is a lift up to 2nd Floor only, but that was not a problem for us.

The hotel is magnificent but dated , bits of hallway need painting and upkeep. Lobby and restaurant/lounge very well kept.
Rooms are neat and clean but probably need some more care in the washroom ( sink too small and poor position of rack to store bushes etc) .
Sleeping and seating arrangements are very comfy.
We did not get to order dinner because apparently slots got booked up and the kitchen was \"overwhelmed\" .
Breakfast next morning was good and filling.

The hotel was easy to find and check-in was very straight forward.

The matress was very thin and hard. There were only 2 accessible plugs which were not near the desk which made working in my room difficult as my cable was not ling enough to charge my laptop as i worked. Again i was unable to charge my phone overnight and have it on my bedside table as no available socket.

There were cracks in the ceiling and the paint looked like it needed freshened up.

The signal dropped out on thw TV a few times so i watched tv in my phone instead.

Water pressure was not great and i didn't like the factni couldn't change the height of the shower head.

All staff were very friendly and helpful.
