Beautifully restored Tulloch Castle dates back to the 12th century; Mary Queen of Scots and many other rich and famous guests have stayed in this imposing fortress. Its elevated position proudly guards over the colourful market town of Dingwall just 15 miles north of Inverness, and the views of the surrounding area are magnificent.

Many of the ancient castle features still exist including the dungeons and the original mantelpiece with its roaring open fire. One of the Highlands' top chefs skilfully prepares fresh local produce that is served in the exquisite restaurant.

For those who prefer a more relaxed atmosphere then retreat to the Green Lady bar for a drink or home-cooked bar meal - available throughout the day. The bedchambers, most furnished in a traditional style to befit a castle, are spacious, comfortable, full of character and all come with private facilities, TV and tea and coffee station.

This was seriously a magical place to stay. The room was spacious with an incredible view, and all of the amenities made you feel like actual royalty! Staff were all extremely accommodating and friendly as well. I felt like I was in my very own Christmas Hallmark movie and would absolutely recommend the place to anyone visiting near Dingwall or Inverness- it was a quick 20min bus ride into Inverness, and the bus stop is just down the hill from the castle.

Front desk check in process could be improved. Had to wait a while for someone to help us then the key was just given to us no further information other than our room number. I had to inquire about breakfast, if someone can help us with luggage, about wi fi. It was the weirdest check in ever.
Our room was also disappointing. We selected this cause it was a “castle hotel” yet other than the exterior and the windy hallways the bedroom was extremely lacking in character. Made me wish we had stayed in Inverary instead. We had limited hot water in our room as well.
Pro- the staff at the breakfast room were lovely.

Lovely building byt needs attention now

Tired building. Rooms dated. No heating on. Little electric heater was available. Condensation was really bad. Bedroom 1 shower was a trickle of hot water. Bedroom 2 no tv signal. Food in bar was absolutely first class as was the service. Breakfast was cold. Scrambled egg overdone and dry.

Unique property outside of Inverness. We had a wonderful stay. The rooms were clean and the bathrooms were clean and updated. The history of the property is very interesting. We loved the pub on site and went each night for a drink. We preferred the pub food to the dining room food as we prefer more basic, pub type fare. Would definitely stay again if we travel to the area.

We loved our stay at the Tulloch Castle Hotel. It was interesting to stay in a building that is so old and has so much history. Our room itself, one of the cozy doubles, was indeed quite cozy (on the cramped side). The location was a little bit inconvenient as there really is not much within a short walking distance of the hotel itself. Views are stunning, there were sheep in the field behind the hotel. Overall a very nice stay.

The hotel is off the beaten path and sits above Dingwall and anyone taking mass transportation to Dingwall should be aware that taxi and bus service to the property is limited. If you are carrying light luggage, and you are healthy and feel inclined, you can walk the 20 minutes from the train terminal. I cannot overstate that the walk is all uphill! Dingwall is very quaint and small, so there are only a couple of spots to get food or a pint of ale before 3 pm, but the property has a nice pub and food prices are relatively comparable.

Breakfast was a good choice, easy parking. Room at the very top. Dated and furniture was broken on a unit. Expect to climb stairs as no lifts but staff offered to help.. should have said yes!.
Negative was cancelled check in by 3pm yet cannot get anything to eat until 5.30 in the bar.. so not great as travelled thinking could get food on arrival.

A sad experience

We booked a 2 night stay in a cosy room as part of our anniversary celebration. The room is 3 floors up and no elevator so beware if you have a lot of luggage. The biggest issue was that there was no water pressure. The shower was practically useless and even though we raised it with reception there was nothing they could do. Needless to say it was very disappointing as the staff did not offer any alternative. Also there are no phones in the room so if you want to speak to reception you need to go 3 flights down and up. Definitely not a 4 star as advertised in Hotels.com

We had a wonderful stay at Tulloch Castle! We were greeted by Paul when we arrived. He was very helpful and knowledgeable about the property. He was entertaining and his commitment to his job was evident by the fact that he was there even thought it was his day off. We enjoyed drinks at the bar and a delicious dinner at the restaurant. The balcony off our room was the perfect place for a nightcap and coffee in the morning. The views of the city from the balcony were stunning. The breakfast buffet had a great variety of food. We can't wait to return someday!

At check-in, it took 20 minutes to find someone at reception (10pm)
After roaming around, I found the on-duty individual in the bar area. Then, there were major issues with water pressure (too weak) and tenperature (lukewarm at best). Not exciting after a long drive with two small kids. They apologized, but it hardly helps when paying over $300 for a night.

The room was very simple and basic, nothing to be excited about - I'd expect more from an upscale castle hotel. They might have nice suites, but don't trust pictures if you are going for cheaper options.

The castle was really nice has a small bar and a restaurant inside. Ghost story told a bit late at night 10:30 but was interesting. The beds were comfy.

I wanted to experience a night in a castle to celebrate my retirement. When I arrived I was speechless. My room was bigger than my apartment, is called the Oak Room because it is made of oak. The copper bath tub was amazing but don’t take a bath until after 7 if you want hot water. Paul was an amazing guest host. I would go back again for sure!!!

Booked 2 rooms, they both had heating on full and were too hot, room 1 radiator switched off but the window was broken, the rope was snapped and would not open, room 2 radiator would not switch off but the window did open, when I asked staff for a little help as the rooms were uncomfortable, just told it was an old building, not much help really when rooms are too hot to be comfortable in. In summary nice place but the staff were not friendly and rooms too hot.

Loved this hotel! An old castle that has been renovated into a quaint boutique hotel. 22 rooms. Beautiful location, gounds and hotel. Rumored to be haunted! We were given a late night tour of the property by Rodney. It was the most amazing experience ever. He was so friendly, knowledgeable and excited to share his experiences and hotel with us. I would recommend this place to anyone. It was an amazing experience.

Room was fine. Food was good. Although both grossly overpriced. However, everything else was a disaster.

The entire property is under renovation/construction. Which was never disclosed at any point during the reservation, the confirmation, or subsequent automated communications. Staff didn't even acknowledge there was renovations/constructions, even though everything looked like a war zone, and moving around was actually a hazard.

Because of this, no common area was accessible. The dining room was closed (probably under renovation) and transferred to some small rather depressing room which could have been any dive in London.

The next morning, construction/renovation started at 8 in the morning, right outside the door. Including workers playing music.

When I raised the issue at front desk, I was met with utter contempt. Similar to when I checked in when the only greeting was that I was apparently early (and clearly an inconvenience.

This shows a level of contempt for guest that is highly unusual outside of Scotland. The price charged under the circumstances is therefore far, far too much.

Frost (and condensation) on inside of window in the morning. Problem with heating. No hot water in shower or handbasin taps.

The hotel is a quaint and very comfortable small castle that has all the charm and modern conveniences you would hope for. The staff are amazing, welcoming and informative. Breakfast was well worth it and the food is excellent. Will definitely be coming back!

We enjoyed our stay here. The property was well maintained and the staff were friendly. There wasnt much to do within walking distance but that’s okay because it was very quiet and there was a restaurant/bar there.

The walled garden rooms are not worth $500 a night at all. Breakfast and the staff were lovely, as was the castle and grounds. Only stay if you can stay in the castle... in my opinion!

Slept like a Princess

We had a fantastic 2 night stay. Our suit was gorgeous. Tasteful design, amazingly comfortable bed, great facilities in the room even tangerine bath salts and radox for the bath!
The rest of the castle, while a bit dated is quirky and comfortable and the staff are very helpful. Even puppy Hecter was there to say goodbye when we checked out.
Dinner was nice. Reasonably priced, well cooked duck and venison and gorgeous chocolate delice!
The only downside to our stay was the quite terrible breakfast which was completely not in keeping with the rest of stay.
We would definitely stay at the castle again and just pop out for breakfast l!

Welcome was 1st class. Bright, cheerful, witty, lady at reception. Was most helpful. Big smile the whole time.
Room was very nice, clean. Fresh looking.
The Castle is obvioulsy very old but in nice condition.
All the staff we saw, in restaurant and the Bar were also helpful, accommodating and pleasant.
The food in the Bar was exceptional.
Breakfast was a wee bit disappointing, we didnt like the Black Pudding but everything else in the Scottish Breakfast was lovely.
All in all a lovely place to stop by.
