Horrible hotel

Worst experience ever! For some reason The hotel was booked for 2 adults and not included my 2 boys , when we arrived at the hotel very late at the night, the arrogant and mean private hotel owner didn’t allow more than 2 people in the room even including children. Since no ways to find other hotels nearby, my husband and one boy had to sleep in the car. I knew it’s kind of my fault and made rush reservations, but never had issues before, and most hotels accommodate children stays.

The hotel itself is very old, has creaky floors, I can hear people’s snoring at the next room. Dark hallways and stairs, easily trip. The hotel was not worth it for the price, would not recommend.

Lovely folks and cool old drovers inn. Unfortunately we didn't know there was no food available on Mondays or Tuesdays (though I contacted the hotel twice when booking and was told we would be able to get dinner at least)

The owners were kind and helpful at getting us checked in and showing us our rooms. The place was sufficient for our needs but not ideal. There were no outlets in our room that were reachable. We had to plug things in in the hallway. Our bedding was clean, but the extra pillows on the top of the cabinet did not have changed pillow cases and had hair on them.

My son and I spent one night here on May 2, 2025. It was an exhausting day because we were lied to and ripped off by Europcar. We couldn’t get any roadside assistance even though we paid extra for it Upon arrival at the Luib, we were met with understanding and caring. They have a small staff and a tough job. The owners are very successful people and have owned a number of businesses in Europe and now live in their hometown. I bonded with them and staff immediately. Some reviewers are upset that they were denied bathroom amenities. Sadly, I can see how some entitled people treat the Luib like it’s a public rest stop with free public amenities. That happens to them constantly. The Luib has so much character inside that you really do need to stop here. If not staying the night, go there in the evening for drinks, conversation and atmosphere. I was shown genuine kindness by the owners and hope to see them again next year. We were very satisfied with our stay and the ambience was priceless. Highly recommend.

It is a beautiful 17th century building, quirky and old. Maybe because it is out of high season, they had a very limited selection of food and drink and it just felt like we were too much trouble? The fan in the bathroom was really noisy which is a problem for late night needs and the mattress was super soft and lumpy!

Beautiful location and nice people. Owners said 10 pm was quite time but stayed up until 11:30 talking very loudly which kept us awake. Don’t eat there; small menu with mediocre food. Eat in Killin. The room had a cracked window with peeling paint. The inn needs a fair amount of up keep. Not worth the money.

Very basic hotel. Room was a bit tired and rundown. The bar/restaurant smelled of dirty cooking oil which was quite unpleasant and it lingered on hair and clothes.
Only stayed as a stop off on the way to our holiday destination so it served its purpose, but not worth the price.

The countryside around the property was beautiful. The hotel was right on the roadside, so you could hear the cars driving by. Since there was no were else to eat close by, it was practical to be able to eat there, but the fare was simple with no fresh options, such as salads. Some of the mattresses sank in the middle and the coils could be felt. I tried to sleep on a pillow for this reason. The bathroom window was moldy and the moldy smell carried over into the room. Everything was well meant, but really needs updating and renovations. If you can afford to stay somewhere else, do that.

Being Scotland, places can be old and that is the charm. The Inn could use some lights in the hallways for night time, but the beds were comfortable, it was quiet at night and there are beautiful fields behind it. The cook had been sick for a while, so the nice lady that checked us in suggested the Courie Inn in Killin, which was excellent. Killin is a great town about a 5-10 min drive away with a gorgeous river and really lovely places to eat, stay and even an old castle.

Comfy beds but very limited food. Not soundproofed

Situated in a beautiful location, the beds were very comfortable and staff friendly. However, the plumbing isn't great as the shower varied between a scalding dribble and a cold flood whenever anybody else in the hotel turned a tap. However, the biggest problem for us was the very limited menu and there are no alternative places to eat nearby. There are no starters or desserts and a choice of just five main courses, four for us as one had sold out. Nothing at all for vegetarians. The cooked breakfast was good quality but there were no cereals, juices or fruit. It was great to be able to open the window fully in the room but it was the start of the midge season so we left it shut. Not well soundproofed.

Old hotel and bar. Good sized full Scottish breakfast. Plaid carpets and old wood staircases. Be careful with SatNav as it will take you to an empty hotel closer to Crianlarich. If driving from Crianlarich keep going past the closed hotel on the right and you will find Luib Hotel on your left about 1/2 mile further on from where SatNav says it should be.

Excellent little hotel

Really great hotel. Staff were very welcoming, room was cute with a view over the fields. Bed was comfy. Tea, coffee and biscuits in room with a kettle.

Central heating in room and easily controlled.

Had the evening meal which had a choice of about 6 items all priced at £13 apart from the steak which was £19 but was huge. Chef was excellent, I had freshly causing fish in bread crumbs with chips and it was gorgeous. Breakfast was a traditional Scottish cooked breakfast and again was perfect.

The staff were the real charm of this place with everyone engaging and working hard. There was no wifi as there were issues but had enough 4g signal to use my data for downloading stuff. But you are in the middle of a valley in the Highlands so to be expected but did not detract from the stay.

Facilities very basic. Small room, no hot water for shower in middle of the day. We weren’t offered any breakfast choices other than a Scottish breakfast - though this was quite good.
The building is old and needs some attention. It’s also right on the side of the A85 so there is traffic noise, even at night.
The meal we had at dinner one evening was ok, but very limited choice.
The plus point was that the owners/staff were very friendly and the beer was good 😃

Very welcoming staff and perfectly good facilities. Excellently located for travelling north. Had a lovely drink in the bar with an open fire in the evening. Only problem with our stay was that the room was incredibly cold when we arrived with heating off and window open. The room did heat up a little by the time we returned from the bar but getting into bed felt like climbing into a block of ice. The heating even went off during the night and we woke up cold multiple times.
In the morning the breakfast was lovely with really excellent service and delicious cooked breakfast. bathroom facilities were clean and shower was quite satisfying and very warm.

Easy to find on the A85 between Crianlarich and Killin in a picturesque location, and plenty of space in the car park on arrival. Considering the high price we paid, and all the positive reviews, we thought we would be in for a treat, however it all fell rather short of our expectations. The age of the building aside, the interior seemed tired and in need of some rejuvenation. Our room had a broken window, the bathroom was dingy and excessively hot due to the towel rail, the toilet wasn't clean, and the shower didn't drain properly meaning the tray was in constant danger of overflowing. The dining wasn't great - rather bland low budget food out of the freezer, and when we tried to pay for our evening meal, the card machine wasn't working. The wifi signal was very poor throughout the building. On the plus side, the bed was comfortable, and the new owners were friendly and welcoming. All in all, we felt the hotel is overpriced for what is on offer, so on that basis we will look for an alternative next time we're in the area.

Characterful Historic Inn

The hotel is an old Drovers Inn - the old building therefore limits the modernity of the rooms. The room that I stayed in (Room 2), was situated at the rear of the building and had a limited view from it's small window which overlooked some delapidated outbuildings.

The room itself was clean, comfortable and very warm. The decor is in need of some update, but everything else was in good working order with a decent amount of storage. The bathroom was a little small, but the shower was hot once the hot water had come through the pipes.

Toiletries are supplied in small single use plastic bottles - maybe we should be taking and using our own? The room had tea and coffee which was replenished daily.

Downstairs there isn't a residents snug - just the large open-plan bar area with open log fire. The bar menu was reasonable enough with a decent enough selection - it's just pub grub though but priced accordingly. The new managers are just updating the menu so could be a little better soon. The bar served just two keg beers - no real ale (yet?).

The hotel is well situated for walking - just 5 minutes from Crianlarich and ten from Killin. The hotel unfortunately doesn't have a drying room which, for Scotland, is a good feature to have. The hotel is also well situated for touring the local area being on the main road between Stirling and Glencoe.

All in All, a decent hotel for a walking break.

Don't expect much more than a bed.

Quaint is the best word I can find for this place. The owner/bartender is probably why it gets good ratings, because the room is not worth the price, and the breakfast is actually better at the chain restaurants where you fix your own. It might just be that you are away from any real competition, because the only other places we saw in the area were occasional B&Bs, and good luck finding it if you arrive after dark. If you do go there, they have cold beer on tap, but not much to snack on, so eat before you get there. .

A remote and friendly stopover

This old inn shows many signs of wear and tear but it is clean and friendly. Our room was sparsely furnished and with a basic ensuite including a gravity fed shower which nearly functioned but we were greatful for the comfy bed in what is essentially the only place to stay between Killin and Crianlarch. We stayed for two nights and had an amusing time chatting with Dennis who runs the place and provides a good Scottish breakfast. The restaurant menu is limited but adequate.

Hotel is a 300 year old building but inside our room was spotless and the accommodations were comfortable. There is no internet in the rooms and the WIFI in the common area was a weak signal. Fun location in the middle of nowhere so perfect for touring the green countryside and lochs. The road from Callander to Luib is lovely, also the road from Ft William to Mallaig is lovely if you can work that into your trip. Very nice publicans and a fire in the restaurant made this a pleasant stop-over.

Lovely restful unpretenious stay

It was great. Unpretentious in every way. Food (especially breakfast) was great, although traditional. The staff were quirky and occassionally confused, but it just added to the fun. For instance. I asked for toast made with white bread and my wife from brown. We only got white. So on the second day we asked for brown first. We got brown. Which was amusing. There was confusion over the bill. We'd paid in advance and they thought we still had to pay. It was soon sorted out with no fuss.
The only issue some might have is the water. It is brown. It's safe to drink, but it's to do with the peat and the fact that it comes from a highland spring. It's treated and they have certificates to say it is safe. But bath in it and it's so soft and leaves your skin so smooth. I guess this would put alot of people off, but it shouldn't.

We would stay again. The hotel has wonderful atmosphere, clean, good food, and great location as a base to explore. If you’re looking for some highland hospitality this is the place. We had a great time at the end of the day relaxing in the bar, locals very welcoming even offering a taste of their whiskey to come from always.

A Night To Remember!

What a wonderful treasure to find on our tour of Scotland! A small casual Inn with staff that welcomed you like family. We enjoyed an evening at the pub within the inn and got to know some locals that were both entertaining and informative. The evening ended with hugs from new friends and warm wishes for our future travels around Scotland.
The next morning we were once again greeted by Dennis and treated to a lovely hardy Scottish breakfast.
More hugs and goodbyes. Felt like family. Would highly recommend everyone to experience The Luib Inn's hospitality!

Lovely food. Very obliging hosts.

It would appear that the inn is under new management and they are busy improving facilities. Our room was clean and comfortable, but the mattress needs to be replaced - a matter which I believe is being addressed. The food (dinner and breakfast) was well-prepared and nicely presented.

Great hosts

The outside didn't look promising. We arrived, tired, after the kitchen was closed and asked if we could possibly get a little something such as soup. The owners were so kind and prepared us scampi and chips plus the soup which was homemade and delicious. We were very appreciative and can't recommend them enough. The building is older but it looks like they are trying to update. Room was comfortable and bathroom updated. Worth a visit for the price and attention.

B&B in Loch Lomond

Old style B&B located on a main road through the national park. Building is over 300 years old, and kept in good shape. Recently taken over by new family. Nice welcome, nice eating area for breakfast and dinner; good menu, good choice of beer. Vintage decoration , sort of like a ski or mountain chalet. Rooms are fine, clean, large. Coffee, tea, and cookies in the room.

Nice B&B

For a 300 year old home, this place was great. The owners were simply wonderful and eager to talk with you. There is a nice bar and restaurant inside which was perfect after a long day of driving. Our room was a bit small and quite simple but perfect for us! They are in the middle of renovating as they just purchased last November.
