Situated only a few miles from the city of Perth and on the doorstep to the Scottish Highlands, Ballathie has an enviable location on the banks of the River Tay. This magnificent country house hotel was constructed in 1880 and consists of a main building and a separate building called Riverside.
The main hotel comprises a total of 25 rooms, with Riverside offering a further 16 rooms, all with charming period features, spacious en suite bathrooms and tea and coffee facilities. The in-house restaurant serves seasonal dishes prepared using local produce and market fresh meats.
Guests may look forward to afternoon tea and sandwiches in the drawing room overlooking the splendid gardens, and those who enjoy the outdoors and sports might make the hotel a base for golfing, fishing, and cycling holidays.

Every member of staff from reception, Marios the restaurant manager and the lovely sommelier whose name we didn’t catch to the hotel manager Gail were exceptional. Their attention to detail, knowledge, professionalism and interaction with guests is easily 5 star standard. They make you feel like your stay is really important and they will go out of their way to make sure that you have the best possible time while you are there. The location is perfect for dog owners. The grounds are beautiful and spacious for walking. Highly recommended!!

Very comfortable stay at Ballathie House Hotel! We stayed for two nights, Enjoyed walking the grounds and by the landscaped garden near the River Tay. We also played croquet, and badminton! Our room was comfortable, although a little warm and only one of the windows would stay open. Breakfast was a buffet style and had numerous options! We also dined one night, which was delicious, and also enjoyed whiskey in the bar another night with the very knowledgeable bartender, James, who was a wealth of information, and gave wonderful suggestions based on taste! We enjoyed our stay!

Disappointing interior….
Very disappointing and not somewhere I’d return. The staff were pleasant, helpful and polite but there is so much wrong with this place given the premium you pay. It’s in dire need of a total internal renovation. The room we had felt grubby and was covered in cobwebs and spiders. The grounds are beautiful and a walk by the river is very relaxing but that’s simply not enough.

The hotel is in a beautiful tranquil setting, with well tended gardens to wander through. Staff were friendly and efficient. We were delighted to see the return of the buffet breakfast, which was well presented and delicious. Some aspects of the hotel are in need of a little refreshment, but overall, we had a very enjoyable stay and we will certainly return.

Lovely property, excellent service, and marvelous food. The bartender said he didn’t really know cocktails which was a bit surprising and a tad disappointing. Would have loved to go stalking but discovered we had to reserve that in advance. Will know next time.

A wonderful experience in a beautiful location
The Hotel is an old manor house with a number of out building locations on the bank of the river Tay. The staff were extremely friendly and efficient, the food excellent. Some of the rooms were a little tired but now under new ownership there is an extensive refurbishment programme underway.
The location with it's riverside walks is stunning. It is also greatly enhanced by the gardens surrounding the main house. My wife (an enthusiastic gardener) had some wonderful discussions with the gardener, Gordon who has been responsible for the design and planting of the beds over the last 9 years. HE is a great asset to the hotel, very skillful and extremely helpful when discussing plants.
I don't think we can praise the hotel sufficiently. it offers excellent value for money and is an ideal base to explore the beautiful Perthshire countryside.

We have stayed here many times over the years and continue to return, which is a good sign. However I was quite surprised that there is no longer a breakfast buffet, which used to be one of the highlights of our stay.

The restaurant and the staff in the country house, were very good, but Hotels.com was, I think, deceptive about the accomodations.
Pictures on Hotels.com all showed the impressive looking country house building, but what we actually slept in, was the \"Sportsman's Lodge\", which was actually, one of many small cabins on the estate; like in Butlins or Hi-de-Hi minus the knobbly knees contests, etc.
The \"Sportsman's Lodge\" cabins were adequate, but pretty basic, and were a disappointment, thinking we were going to stay in the country house.
Pictures on Hotels.com all showed the impressive looking country house building, but what we actually slept in, was the \"Sportsman's Lodge\", which was actually, one of many small cabins on the estate; like in Butlins or Hi-de-Hi minus the knobbly knees contests, etc.
The \"Sportsman's Lodge\" cabins were adequate, but pretty basic, and were a disappointment, thinking we were going to stay in the country house.

I have already left a highly complimentary review that refers to staying in the main house on a previous visit. Just like before, every single staff member we came into contact with was pleasant and professional. This time we stayed in a first floor room in the Riverside building and that experience was equally excellent. The views over the Tay from the balcony were lovely. The room was clean, spacious and well appointed. The bed was huge and very comfortable. Breakfast was plentiful and varied and set us up for the day. Yet again, a wonderful stay at such a special hotel.

After finding this hotel last year we have returned 12 months later because we loved it so much. It's in a beautiful setting, right by the River Tay and the gardens and grounds are wonderful to walk in with lush green trees and birdsong. The staff are attentive and polite, nothing is too much trouble. The rooms are clean, well equipped and traditionally furnished. The communal areas have so much charm and it's packed with original features and character. Please don't ever change, Ballathie House, we will definitely return.

We had a lovely stay at this beautiful country house hotel. Staff were pleasant, friendly and efficient. The room was clean and comfortable, large enough to have a seating area. A small irritation was the rather noisy kitchen extractor fan, directly below our window, which started very early each morning! Breakfast was excellent, well cooked, with plenty of choice. The area around the hotel is very well maintained, with beautiful gardens.

What a great choice of Ballathie House Hotel . From greeting and over the 2 days B&B the service we had was first class . On first day we had afternoon tea which was wonderful . A special mention must go to Craig who served us . Breakfasts were a feast of first class fare. We are both of the opinion that we will come back to this excellent Hotel.

We stayed in the Sportsman Lodge with very dated and plain decor. The bathroom had black mould between the tiles and the duvet was thinner than any I can recall ever having slept under. The rooms were basic more reminiscent of a well worn Travel lodge than a Country house hotel.
Guest facilities in the rooms were poor without even supplying shampoo for the shower. Towels were small and no face cloths provided. Tea and coffee making facilities were on a shelf barely big enough to hold the kettle.
The floors creaked so loudly you could hear every step and movement of the guests next door and I probably shouldn't mention the lack of sound proofing. Sufficient to say we heard everything! and I mean everything! that happened in the room next door. Definitely not a place for a romantic night unless you want to share the encounter with the adjacent rooms.
In all our overnight stay cost well over £300 and I think we would have had a more relaxing and certainly more private overnight stay in a Premier Inn.
However the food was excellent and the level of service in the hotel and restaurant first class. Beautiful location and excellent food let down by the very average rooms. I expected much better for the price so overall it got an average score. Without the excellent food and service it would have been a 1 star from me.

The room we booked was so rundown we ended up leaving with out staying the night and booked elsewhere in Stirling. There advert was very miss leading as to what was available ie: fishing and such. The advert was also missleading on the condition of the accomadations. The only staff member that was personable and friendly was the young lad working the bar. Meal was also over priced for the quality of the food and my wife found a hair in her meal they did give her a new dish. Overall very dissapointed and would not recommend anyone to stay here.

I did not like the fact the so called sportsmans' lodge was dated, tired and very cheaply furnished. Exterior of lodge building was cheaply glazed and outdated. Whole building unit of lodge needing upgraded. 1 of the staff condescending. Attended breakfast and was asked to move as they were tidying away the dining room. An extremely overpriced stay at £127. Drinks in main hotel grossly overpriced. All in all, an extremely disappointing stay for myself and my partner's birthday.

we stayed in one of the lodges. It was very tired and in need of an update. We stayed with friends who were in the hotel and the riverside apartments. I felt at the time of booking we were pushed to stay in the lodges. We had our dog with us but that should not have made a difference as she is well behaved. Balathie should possibly consider updating this year. If we were to think about a return visit and the lodge was the only available option, We wouldn't !

Staying in the sportsman's quarters was nice and quiet, very roomy, but not a part of the main building, if walking is a concern. There were no dining options - it's out in the country - other than at the Inn itself, which was a fairly expensive proposition. Tasty, but costly.
