This place is incredible!! My sibling and I showed up exhausted and cold and were given prime princess treatment as soon as we walked in. The staff took our luggage and shoes and gave us tea and yukatas. Everybody was dressed in traditional Japanese attire and the lobby is gorgeous and full of activities and places to relax. There were games and crafts and free sale!! Our room was also amazing with tatami floors and futons. It came with everything we needed plus extra goodies from the staff. The AC was a little bit finicky but that was probably our fault.

I think the only aspect of our stay that I think could use improvement is the bath house. This was my first time using one, so I don’t know if this is normal, but the water was not as clean as I’d hoped. Maybe because guests weren’t washing off properly before using it, or letting their hair down? There were signs stating the rules right outside, so I’m not sure what happened. I do wish there was another sign or explanation from the staff about where to put your belongings, because I was a bit confused until another guest kindly helped me out. Other than that, the bath was so beautiful and calming. A really great first experience!

The surrounding area was nice too! Easy transportation and tons of great restaurants. Definitely pay a visit to Rinrin cafe nearby! The owners are the sweetest people ever and make amazing food!!

Overall, I highly recommend Oyado Koto no Yume. Top notch service, especially from Ms. Yuki!!

- The private onsen was beautiful.
- The staff were immensely helpful and had wonderful English
- The location a few minutes walk from the train/bus station makes getting there with suitcases really convenient.
- The breakfast is quite good and convenient. Definitely would go for the Japanese breakfast option

Overall everything seems like it had been thought of which made the stay feel comfortable as both a home base for traveling around Takayama and the Hida region or as a place to rest and recoup on a rainy day

We were here for 4 nights. We're in out 60s and this is our first time to stay in an Ryokan. Honestly, it would have been better if it's only 2 nigths so we an experience it. We don't love the room arrangement, the futon, and there's no full size 'chair' level sitting arragnement. We're too old to be getting up and down from the floor level. It would have been fun again for a short duration but not for 4 nights.

The hotel is very well situated near to the train station and it’s very pretty! The room is a very good size and it was clean! The onsen was also pretty so we had no trouble spending 15 minutes alone in our separate baths (1 for men and another for women). Every time we left and came back they would bring a new little snack to our room. they also put you in a yukata with a big bow when you first arrive. This is a lovely traditional ryokan with friendly and attentive staff. They went out of their way to answer a question we had on the origin of one of their architectural features. The breakfast was generous and tasty (we had the Japanese set). The onsen was relaxing and well equipped. The clientele when we stayed there in October was mostly foreign, so they provided extra explanation upon arrival and offered assistance as needed. The lobby was nice in the evening with complementary tea and sake tasting, with plenty of seating to relax and enjoy. Also, can’t beat the location - close to the train station and walking distance to many shops, restaurants, and the historic district.

Very good Ryokan experience. Expensive for the quality relative to other Ryokans I’ve stayed at in Japan. Service was incredible. Good location in Takayama. All in all a good option. Takayama is very touristy. Only reason I rated it lower is that I was comparing this Ryokan to higher quality experiences in other Ryokans I’ve visited (particularly given the price). This one is nice but not as nice as several others I’ve visited in other towns / areas.

Very nice ryokan. We loved the Japanese clothes provided, and dressing for meals. The onsen was excellent (thought we wish it stayed open one more hour at night). Japanese breakfast was excellent. Convenient to the train station (a couple of blocks) and all of the Takayama attractions (walking, by bus, or by taxi). This is a justifiably difficult reservation to obtain during peak season.

We started in Japan for 12 days and our stay at Oyado Koto No Yume in Takayama was by far the best accommodations we’ve experienced. Modern Ryokan at its best. Location is within 10-15 minute walk from bus/train station. The place is immaculate ( all guests were required to leave their shoes upon entry to the hotel; staff puts them away for you and provide you with in house slippers). Guests were provided kimono/ yukata for our enjoyment. Breakfasts every morning is excellent! Room is huge and accommodated 3 adults with 3 check in luggage size comfortably. Separate male and female on send in the hotel provided a much needed wind down after a full day of walking. My only suggestion and this is a personal preference after experiencing other public onsens, please provide a door on the way to the changing areas for women. The only thing blocking the way/view to the female onsen is a curtain. There’s always possibility of a male walking into female changing area by accident. Other than this, everything was perfect during our stay and I highly, highly recommend this ryokan queen visiting Hisa-Takayama.

We stayed here and it was the perfect place for our takayama visit. It was a very comfortable place, and well appointed. Service was amazing from the moment we arrived. The onsen/bath was nice and the location was great. Hiro gave us a great dinner recommendation…might have been the best meal of our trip.. we hope to return soon!

We had an excellent stay at this hotel. The location is just a few minutes away from the bus station. About a 15 minute walk to Sanmachi area. They provided yukatas for us to wear. The bath was nice and relaxing. We enjoyed our Japanese traditional breakfast. The staff were excellent and attentive. We would recommend staying here if visiting Takayama!

I really liked the authentic ryokan experience. The hotel was cozy and a welcome reprieve after all the hustle and bustle of Tokyo after five nights. It’s very close to the train station which was an added bonus! The onsen was amazing and the staff were so lovely. It isn’t a major gripe at all but flagging that you have to leave the key every time you leave the hotel. Again, not a big issue but something to note since it added a layer every time you came and went (had to wait for the key when you came in etc). Overall, I loved my stay and would definitely recommend.

The ambiance of this ryokan is perfection, from the gorgeous gardens, the super-attentive and warm staff to the lovely rooms and onsen. The Japanese Breakfast is an full experience in itself, with so many local dishes to try. My favorite part was the free kimono usage for photos on the town, they even help you get dressed properly. The staffs and services provided are superb. We stayed in the Rabbit room which has so many cute rabbit decorations that are so cute. The only comment I have is the room's heater can only keep the bedding area warm when all the sliding doors are closed. Even though the thermostat was set to 30 C, it felt colder than that.

Restful perfection in the heart of Takayama.

This was a terrific experience all round! We love Takayama, and have visited it many times over the years, but this was our first time at this delightful property. The service was fabulous, with a special mention to Kato-san for looking after us so well, and the breakfast was quite simply the best we have ever had at a Japanese inn. It was our 20-year anniversary, and the staff went to the extra length of presenting us with a bottle of wine and a beautiful hand-made card. Our time at Oyado Koto no Yume could not have been better, and we are already planning our next visit.

Loved this ryokan. So close to the train and bus station but the street is quiet so you don’t hear the traffic. The staff were welcoming and attentive and went out of their way to help. It has a luggage forwarding service and has a warm and relaxing atmosphere. We stayed in a traditional room and we loved the comfy warm futons for sleeping on. We also loved the private bath that you can book as a change from the public onsen/bath and having to split the genders.
We sat in the communal lounge near the hearth (toasty and warm) on a rainy cold afternoon to do some origami and they saw us looking up things to make on our phones...next thing...three origami books were given to us with full instructions. Highly recommend staying here and couldn’t fault our stay.

Oyodo Koto No Yume offered a very traditional Ryokan experience and the staff was extremely courteous throughout the duration of my stay. The housekeeping was excellent, and the added touches of replenishing green tea and fresh Takayama ice water was much appreciated.

There is an onsen on the premises that can be booked for about 1,100 yen an hour, which is worth it if you're curious about experiencing one. The building and surrounding areas were very quiet even though it was close to the train station (about a 3 min walk). The staff was also generous in offering locales to visit that were close to the downtown area.

I would highly recommend this inn to anyone visiting Takayama.

I absolutely love this place. There was a private onsen for my husband and I who have tattoos, and we took the opportunity to wear yukatas (it's part of the amenities and you only pay if you want to keep it) while exploring the village. The futons were surprisingly comfortable as well. I would definitely come back to stay in this ryokan.

If you want a true Japanese experience look no further. Staff were friendly and very accommodating and nothing was too much. Felt extra special with wonderful greeting spending time introducing us to facilities of Ryokan and bedroom abd even iffer to help you dress in kimono and Yukata which are offered as part of stay. Would recommend Japanese breakfast as fantastic chance to receive individual service and sample new flavours. We also paid extra to enjoy the private bath which wad perfect after a day's hiking. When leaving the Ryokan we were given a personal goodbye greeting by a number of staff. Truly wonderful from start to finish.

Beautiful property, great location, great breakfast, lovely room, choice of two hot spring onsens (one with outside air and one enclosed), great staff but bathrooms need updating/plumbing checked. Terrible wi-fi which was a real shame. But otherwise a gorgeous experience, would recommend.

Perfect location & lovely inn

The location is incredibly convenient to both the train/bus station and Old Town Takayama. The staff are welcoming, very helpful, and spoke perfect English. The ryukon is lovely and very comfortable. We had a corner room on the 3rd floor. It was well appointed, light and airy, and incredibly quiet. I would definitely stay here agaib!
