We loved the lobby/restaurant area - a classic grand hotel feel. The reception staff were very helpful with our need for re-arrangements.

Super convenient location across Leeuwarden train station. It is a small boutique style hotel. I loved the Nespresso machine and the daily capsules complimentary refill, also nice emptied mini-fridge for use and kettle. Room was large and very clean. My room had an outdoor terrace but the view are not nice as they overlook vents and tubes from the restaurant next door. Heating worked perfectly fine.

This is the second time I stay at this property and I recommend it. Great service by the staff, rooms are good, 1 minute distance from the train central station and 5 minutes walking to the city center. Several good dining options within minutes.

Convenient for rail connections

The hotel is close the Leeuwarden railway station so very convenient if arriving by train. It’s a largish hotel, staff are pleasant and helpful. If staying more than one night they don’t service the room unless you ask. There are lots of restaurants nearby. Breakfast at the hotel is good.

Oranje Hotel Leeuwarden Continues Rich Tradition

The Oranje Hotel across from the train station in Leeuwarden has been welcoming guests for over one- hundred years, as can be seen in the oldest photos/images on a wall in the hotel chronicling the hotel's rich past. Now an Eden property, the Oranje Hotel continues its tradition of comfort and service at a reasonable price. The hotel has an expansive bar and lounge area with a number of quiet and comfortable niches. There is even a reading area with magazines and reading lamps. An ample breakfast is offered daily until 11 AM at a good price. The hotel's rooms are efficiently appointed: my only disappointment, such as it was over two nights, is the lack of English speaking channels on the television. (There is just one, from an unlikely source - French TV - but no CNN or even BBC). There are restaurants directly to the left and right of the hotel, and if you fancy a steak a Loetje's is at hand!

Leeuwarden stopover

Brief stay on Leeuwarden. The hotel is opposite the train station. It’s a good base to explore the city, especially the Friesland Museum and library / arts centre (the old jail). There’s four restaurants close to the hotel. If you wan to venture further then the TOTT is worth a visit. It serves Thai/Asian food. As it’s fairly small then best to book. I visited on a Wednesday and was able to get a table when I arrived. The breakfast at the hotel is very good.

Really lovely and friendly staff. Bed is very comfortable and the shower is nice with excellent pressure and hot water. The complimentary toiletries are of high quality and very welcome.

Only downside was that the room smelt strongly of cigarette smoke and one night we had the fresh smell of smoke come into the room every 10 minutes or so, possibly via the aircon duct from a neighbouring room.

A comfortable hotel in a very central location, right across from the station. The beds are nice except the two mattresses kept sliding away from each other. Our room overlooked the street, but it wasn't too noisy when the window was closed. The room was clean, and although our beds were made each day, the glasses were not changed out. The minibar fridge did not work, but we didn't use anything from it, so it didn't impact our stay and only reported it at checkout. The staff are friendly and helpful, and I would definitely return when visiting Leeuwarden.

On a positive note, the staff are very friendly and the drinks we had in the bar were excellent. The location next to the station is very convenient too. I did like having hot chocolate in the room, that was delicious.

Otherwise, not so great, which is a real shame. The hotel is very old and need a complete face lift. The carpet is horrendous! The first room I was shown to, the curtains didn't close, the lovely lady at reception did her best to help but none of the maintenance staff were available to fix this. I had to suggest to be moved rather than having it suggested to me in the first place.
The second room I was allocated, the bathroom was not cleaned on one of the days which is unacceptable, the cleaner had just picked up the shower mat as far as I could tell!? The towels were not picked up and tidied, none of the surfaces had been wiped.

The room were FAR TOO HOT!! I slept with the window open (6 degrees centigrade outside) every night as I was perspiring the first night. The air conditioning did not work even after I mentioned it to the front desk staff.

The breakfast is similarly lacking, although bread and pastries are nice, the fruit is bruised and off (fruit salad) it's in a very dingy restaurant (even though it's close to the window).

Very friendly staff but could be a bit slow serving you. Room lovely and clean and comfortable. Book a room with a terrace but there was no terrace just building going on where they were banging and drilling at 8am right outside the window, I could lean out and touch the scaffolding if i had chosen too, this was not mentioned at all at time of booking or at check in. Not much going on in the area but enough for one night. Right opposite train station.

The nicest hotel in Leeuwarden

The location of the hotel is undeniably convenient. It is right across from the train/bus station and around the corner from a lovely square with bistros and cafes, as well as a market every Friday.

Our rooms were very clean, the beds were incredibly comfortable and toiletries are provided. The furniture is modern and comfortable and there are English channels on the TV. There is a minibar in the room as well as a safe and lovely coffee/tea making facilities with a Nespresso machine.

The staff are friendly and always greet you when entering or leaving the hotel, checkin was a pleasure and we even managed to get our rooms before checkin time which was a huge surprise and much appreciated.

We didn't have breakfast so I cannot comment on the food, but the bar and brassiere looked comfortable and inviting.

This is the only hotel I will be staying in Leeuwarden from now on, and would definitely recommend it.

Located opposite the rail station and close to the bus station this is a comfortable hotel. However, first impressions count and Reception was on the phone on arrival. A colleague arrived after 10mins to check me in, but was immediately replaced by the Receptionist who had finished on the phone. Not the friendliest of welcomes! The (family) room was large and comfortable although the air con temperature control was variable. In addition the shower control was also an irk to engage from bath filling mode. The bed was comfy and the provision of tea and coffee making facilities plus fridge was appreciated. Breakfast was superb.

The hotel is across the street from the train station, very convenient. The room was superb, roomy for a European hotel, very comfy, large bed. Nice shower, bathroom with amenities. Good wireless Internet and TV. And very quiet. Hotel has an excellent restaurant. It is also close to central Leeuwarden to walk to other restaurants and shops, banks. Excellent Friday and Saturday markets nearby. We will definitely stay here again!

Just a quick night stop whilst travelling to Terschelling. Impressed that I was asked whether I would like a room with a bath or shower - never had that before!. Staff were friendly. The best bit was the bed/bedding....better than my own at home! The duvet was one of those ones that envelopes you, leading to a real fight to get up in the morning

Hotel Oranje is a clean, nicely-furnished hotel in a great spot in the city. It is near to the transit station as well as the historic downtown / city square. Everything I needed to buy or wanted to see was within easy walking distance. The hotel room came with a balcony, which was an added bonus. Good price, great room, and perfect location.

Excellent hotel located across from the Leeuwarden Staion. Well located for ease access (walking ) to all of Leeuwarden's amenities and interesting sites. If driving there is a garage at the hostel which has a surcharge ( well worth it).

Hotel is a full service hotel providing very good guest services. Good restaurant. Great place to take a coffee or beer to car have up on your reading.

Staff are very attentive and helpful. Always ready to assist. Wealth of local knowledge.

Will definitely return the this hotel next time in Leeuwarden.

We arrived a few hours early and reception staff checked us in and looked after our bags so we could explore Leeuwarden. Our room was comfortable, spotlessly clean and had loads of sockets for our electronic devices. Bathroom gleaming with good lighting and mirrors. Plenty hanging and shelf space. Extra pillows in wardrobe. Tea/coffee facilities in room, and no problem getting extra from reception. Mini bar. Free WiFi. Balcony.

We booked this hotel via Expedia due its location which is directly next to the central train station in Leeuwarden. It takes you a few minutes walk to the center square. The staff is very professional and friendly. We arrived 3 hours in advance and we were given the room key directly. Our room itself, located on the 2nd floor, was clean and very decent.

You have a safe included, a mini bar ($) and free Wi-Fi.

We tried the breakfast which costs 15 euro/p.p. and had a good selection offered. Note that you can sit anywhere and there is no table service for coffee/tea.

Overall: highly recommended for location and great staff

Great hotel. We were there to attend the Friesian Stallion Show. The hotel was very convenient to the location of the show.
Train station across the street was also available. The hotel has its own and bar and restaurant which was very nice. There is also restaurants around the hotel within walking distrance.

This hotel was clean and the staff was terrific. They were very helpful and went out of their way to provide great service. The restaurant was perfect, serving delicious dinners and a wonderful breakfast with lots of choices. The bar is a nice place to get a night-cap and the large lobby had many comfortable and private seating areas to enjoy drinks, coffee and conversation. The parking garage was extremely easy and accessible. I would highly recommend Hampshire Hotel-Oranje Leeuwarden to anyone who is looking for a perfect location. Walking distance to many shops, restaurants, nightclubs, museums and transportation. I couldn't have asked for a better place.

Overnight in Leeuwarden.

Had a very good overnight stay, I was using public transport and the hotel is very accessible to the city centre and literally across the road from the main railway station. The reception staff were very attentive and they allowed me to change rooms to somewhere quieter without hesitation. Would stay again if visiting the capital of beautiful Friesland. There are some cheaper alternative hotels but this was good quality, felt very safe and comfortable. Recommended.

The hotel is showing real signs of tiredness. The bed and pillows quite poor. Hotel often smells bad - from cooking in the kitchen which seems to go right around the corridors and even to the upper floors.

Our group of 6 had a 2-night stay while on a visit to the Netherlands. This hotel is conveniently located by the train station and near the center city. The restaurant Van Buren is very nice, with an excellent set of choices and specials. We liked the lounge/bar area and saw others in business attire used it also for gatherings. My only complaints were 1) the wake-up call system (didn't call one morning and then came the next morning well before we wanted to get up), and staff person just dismissed my complaint with, well, the system doesn't seem to be working; and 2) the parking garage system (the check-in didn't mention that you need a token to get out of the garage, so we had to go back up to reception to get it.)
