Ok so let me say , I have stayed at many a hotel but this stay surpassed them all honestly. We were greeted at the front desk and I want to say her name is Nancy and I’m sorry if I got that wrong , but she was lovely and took my daughter and I on a tour of this historic inn. Felicia the manager upgraded our room to a colonial double on the second floor when she learned my daughter and I were interested in the ghostly happenings recorded at this inn. It was my daughter’s 30th birthday and we got to our room and found a birthday card waiting for her there. Such a kind gesture and much appreciated. We did experience some very friendly ghostly activity which made our stay even better. Their restaurant located in the inn was excellent ! If you go you need to get the garlic bread tower.. so good ! George Washington has stayed here as well as other very worldly Presidents and historic figures. I won’t spoil it for you as for us it was so much fun hearing about the history by its staff members. The rooms themselves are very small and basic which adds to its appeal . The beds were very comfortable and the bath had all the amenities. This inn is one I highly recommend and can’t wait to visit again honestly ! Thank you to the staff who made our stay so memorable ! Customer Service is very strong here! @generalstantoninn

Very clean rooms and friendly staff. They've done such a great job preserving this historic landmark. It's a real experience staying there. Funny note - our window kept opening by itself when we slept at night. The room got pretty cold so I told the owner about it and apparently it might have been a ghost. True story.

The inn and restaurant were wonderful. I probably had the best hot lobster roll I’ve ever eaten. The water pressure in the shower was amazing and the beds were very comfortable. Only issues were we found a dirty sock on the floor in room 6, and when we went downstairs for coffee at 7am, there was no sugar and not enough creamer. Also, before dinner we went outside to sit on the 2nd floor deck, but quickly discovered that the area under the deck is where the smokers hang out. So it was a little unpleasant. All were minor things and won’t deter us from staying and/or eating there again!

We had a nice stay at General Stanton. It’s a very cool old Inn with lots of character and was very clean. We checked in after hours so did not interact with any staff except over the phone but the remote check in process was still easy and we had no issues. Was a convenient and affordable stay for a concert in Matunuck.

This one is a bummer. The inn and tavern are amazing. Historic, preserved immaculately, cozy with warm toned woods and just an absolute vibe. Conversely the updated rooms that are outside the inn are sooooooo bad. They are not at all what you’d expect from a beautiful historic location. It literally felt like we were in a hospital room. It was sterile and cold feeling, with literally no life to the room at all. It was such a missed mark by the owners. If they just warmed those rooms up and kept it on theme with the rest of the place, this would be an A+++++ stay. As it is, the room was so cold and sterile we didn’t stay due it home only being an hour away. Such a shame 🙁

Great location right in the center of Charleston. The hotel history was very unique. Had a fantastic sleep in the room. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Had a great dinner and also a breakfast for ourselves and friends in the morning. Grounds had a flea market that was fun to walk around. Will be back next summer!

Hi, We enjoyed our stay. The room is small, but quaint. My wife suggested a couple of enhancements that would make it easier to get ready for an outing. Adding a mirror in the bedroom area with lighting to allow for makeup and/or add lighting above the mirror in the bathroom. There were a few people sitting outside our window on the patio and talking after 10:00 Friday night. They weren't too loud, but you might consider a policy limiting sitting outside Room 3's window after a certain time. Thx for listening.

The hotel was immaculate. My bed was extremely comfortable and the linens were fantastic. There was a snow storm over night and in the morning one of the staff members was working a clearing snow and took the time to come help me clear my car of the ice and snow. I was warmly greeted the moment I walked in to check in and was then escorted to my room. The room was immaculate and the bed so comfortable. Not a speck of mold or mildew in the bathroom. Despite the age of the Inn, it was in such nice shape and so well maintained. This Inn is loved by the owners who clearly take pride in it.

We loved the uniqueness of the property and the bedrooms were perfect for our stay. We would have liked a coffee machine in the room or access to one for early morning risers. That being said, Amber came in extra early to provide us breakfast and that was much appreciated. We will definitely be back with more members of our family. Such an interesting place to stay. Make sure to talk to the front desk about the history of the land and building. It was a fun history lesson for our children. We did not have an opportunity to stay in a historic room (as we booked last minute), but the newly updated rooms were fresh, clean, and nice.

Very strange hotel. We were rushed away to our room before entering the building.
