Excellent area, great staff and great place stay for visiting Rome. The staff took good care of us. They also allowed us to check in early. Got to rest after a long flight to Rome. The staff took care of everything we needed help with including transpoting us to and from the airport and somewhere elase. Thank you Saya, Mr. B and everyone. You made us feel like home.

We stayed here for a week with our two kids. The site says laundry available it is not. There’s an in room washer but it’s against a local law to use. We were told to go to the basement which has a code that also does not work.

The tub leaks water all over the bathroom. There is black mold on the tile. The furniture looks like it’s from a garage sale.

Breakfast is a croissant, juice, yourgert an corn flakes.

There is construction above our room the whole time we were there. Be prepared to wake up at 8am daily.

We asked Expedia for a partial refund on our room which has to go through the manager of the room. We were denied anything back for the many inconveniences this place had.

To note: we have stayed all over the world and the pictures on this site are of the city it self not what the hotel really represents.

The girl who cleans the room and stocks it is very sweet. You will see her doing all the work. Fabrizio is the manager and will not work with you on the inconveniences. They own Individual rooms local residents also own some.

We’ve stayed in Rome many times and we will not be back to this property and will tell our relatives that come to visit not to stay.

The red room is beyond livable. We were there for 1 week. the window opens up to your neighbors (no actual view) There was mold around the whole window as well. Bathroom was even worse with mold. Shower was almost black. Towels were never exchanged, we had to grab new ones ourselves. The room in general was not clean, the only thing clean was the sheets. Dust absolutely everywhere, the chair upholstery was falling apart. Don't be fooled by the breakfast. That consists of 2 croissants and thats it. The coffee machine was broken, so that was unusable. This could be an amazing place to stay in Rome, with just a little updating and cleanliness. We ended up resorting to staying out in town as long as we could and leave the room as early as possible. Be prepared to pay a CityTax that Emilia asks you after your stay, and sends you a Sumup or asks for cash to be left in the room. We really tried to like the place because of the location but unfortunately wont be coming back.

Great location and hosts

First time visitor to Rome (and Italy) before we set-off we set-up WhatsApp to communicate which was very helpful! Very convenient location. Just a few minutes walk from Vatican City, we took a taxi into Rome for €15.

Emilia and Fabrizio were great hosts who met us there and were also available to message anytime.

There is a shared kitchen well stocked with breakfast foods and a coffee machine but the chocolate breakfast croissants was unbelievable!

They even allowed us keep our bags there while we visited the Vatican the next morning.

I love how clean the place is and the room looked beautiful. I only hoped they have an elevator to the upper levels especially if guests have heavy luggage to carry. Other than that, I am satisfied especially that the owner was very responsive.

A place that I would never choose to stay again!

Nice and quiet location is the only good thing about this apartment. Cleanliness was very poor. From the pics you can see the stains on the headboard. Also the couch was particularly dirty that you couldn't sit on. We stayed for three nights and they didn’t change the towels, not even once. Not a great choice unfortunately..

Emilia Was great, very friendly and helpful gave us a tour of the property tips where to eat, helped us with arranging a driver to pick us up from the airport and also to drop us off to the airport.

The location is perfect for sites in the center of Rome. It is an older building and the room is very small. Husband was a bit too tall for the bed, but the continental breakfast and service was great. Clean and very secure.

It was so small that you couldn't move around. The shower was even smaller to the point that you couldn't switch from side to side without hitting the door handles and it was supposed to be for 3 people, but had to find another place for the 3rd person because there was only 1 bed.

The owner was very helpful and placed fresh pastries, yogurt, juice and coffee every morning. The shower was just a trickle so hard to have a decent wash after our long flight. There was some confusion at check in with the previous renter, his stuff was still in the room when we got there, the room had been cleaned but it was a bit weird. He met us with the keys and removed his stuff but we felt odd.

A beautiful older apartment converted into three rooms with a separate bath in each and a shated kitchen. It was a little more of a cramped space than i expected but i was still thinking in North American standards. We didn't really spend a lot of time in our room anyway! Thanks to Amillia for making us feel so welcome! We recommend installing the Whatsup app before you go.

This was our 2nd stay. Location is perfect, hear bells from the Vatican, train station very close, lots of great restaurants, pharmacies, grocery store. Owner arranges taxi service to meet and return to airport. We became ill while in Rome and needed to stay an additional 4 days, Emilia was able to find a room ini the next unit for us, as well as change our airport drop off. Excellent Host , location & service. Each unit is special.Owner is on site & so very helpful. Don’t hesitate to stay here. You won’t be disappointed. We plan to stay with her again.

The room was beautiful and clean. I didn't realize guests share the kitchen with another room. We didn't eat there so we didn't mind. The room is on the 2nd/3rd floor and we have to haul our luggage all the way up because a lady didn't let us use the elevator. We did use the elevator later. Rome was very hot when we went so we put on the A/C which didn't help because the temperatures are preset and we couldn't change it. The building is located very near the Vatican and St. Peter's Square. Overall, it was a good experience.

Very nice place about 10 minutes walk from the Vatican. Excellent restaurants around the corner. Public transportation as well as taxis close by. Rooms are very clean and breakfast is provided every morning in a fully stocked kitchenette that is shared with only one other room. No elevator from ground floor was a hassle with luggage (this is my only complaint)

Very close to St. Peter's Square. Got friendly and quick responses to our questions, and at check in. We walked from Roma San Pietro station (about ten minutes). Apartment is spotlessly clean, and the common area fridge is restocked daily with water, juice, milk, and yogurt. Breakfast is one croissant each, but you can have unlimited coffee and tea, which we appreciated.

I can't imaging which room looks like the one in the picture. But, that is not the point. The rooms are in a completely different building from that advertised on the site. My room was clean but the walls are as thin as paper; I could hear the people next door urinate in their toilet and every word of their interminable conversation. Ear plugs are a must. The shower was good and the water temperature was OK. The bed was comfortable. The breakfast was OK. But, I paid only 70 Euros for a place on the Janiculum for a spacious room that was quiet. I don't think \"Sotto la Cupola\" was worth the cost.

This place is great. The only issue is access. When first arriving you need to be able to call Amellia. Which we did but the second day, we couldn't work the lock and could't reach Amelia on the phone so were locked out for a while. She is very helpfull otherwise.

Beds are not comfortable and although the actual rooms did not smell like smoke ....the lobby and halls smelled like smoke. Safe neighborhood and you can walk at night/late.

We were met by Sarah who spent almost an hour giving us tips and answering our questions about exploring Rome. We were pleasantly surprised that they welcomed us to eat any of the packed pastries, cereal, yogurt, milk, bottled water, etc. Coffee as well, which is quite good. The building could be tricky to find without GPS as the sign is small. But we came prepared and didn't have any problems. Our room looked like the pictures. It was warm until we turned on the aircon and closed the curtains. Bathroom is updated and clean.

It is very close to the Vatican which is what we wanted. Very pleased!

Pros: Close to Vatican, bus/metro, restaurants, souvenir stores, grocery store, safe to walk. Emilia, the owner, speaks English and provided me with Lactaid, a milk for lactose intolerant people like me. Thanks, Emilia. Owner is very nice and accommodating. Cons: buffet breakfast is deceiving. It only consists of 6 thinly sliced loaf bread, small package of crackers (2/package), a small package of toasted bread (2/package), jams, a package of croissant, milk, coffee, juices, 32 oz of bottled water, fresh croissant and yogurt. What I expected upon seeing the word buffet was a typical American breakfast buffet. When I travel to Europe I always stay in hotels with buffet breakfast. It typically consists of assorted cut meats and cheeses, eggs, sausages, croissants, rolls, pancakes/waffles, pastries, fruits, veggies/salads, rice, pasta, juice, coffee, tea, to name a few. So I was disappointed with the buffet breakfast Sotto Cupola offered me. It should have been called continental breakfast, not buffet. Sotto is an apartment unit with 3 bedrooms, a very tiny dining/kitchen area with a mini fridge and stove. It's surrounded by other apartment buildings, with some of the units being rented out as guest houses or bed and breakfast. It's a block away from a busy street. The entrance to the street leading to the apartment displays large garbage bins with overflowing garbage making it look trashy.

We stayed four nights. Two rooms shared a kitchen with breakfast items provided. Staff was friendly and available when needed. Although there is an elevator, we had to climb one flight of stairs to reach it, Management helped carry luggage up the stairs. It was a good value for the cost.

We were greeted by Emelia at about 10:00 AM. We were early as we had just disembarked a cruise ship. She arranged for our pick up in Civitavecchia and transport to the Sotto la Cupola. She even allowed us to check-in and leave our luggage early so we could begin our tour of Rome. The rooms were clean and well appointed; the kitchen was clean and stocked with a variety of breakfast and snack foods. Emelia was most attentive, helpful with maps and restaurant recommendations. The facility is 2 1/2 blocks from the south wall of the Vatican. Our two families highly recommend the Sotto la Cupola.

Confusing Check-In, Okay Room, Great Location

Our check-in and check out process did not go smoothly. I would not recommend this place unless you have a European phone plan and are used to this style of accommodations. We waited for 45 minutes outside a locked door at the address given to us. Once the host finally showed up we were taken to a second location across the street. Once inside, the room was nice and had a small patio. It was very close to the Vatican and a major bus stop to get to the other areas of Rome. The breakfast was basic packaged items, not fresh, and we did not eat it. Overall, this place was good enough and mainly for the location.

Welcoming gem very close to the Vatican

Believe the reviews about this B&B. The hosts are very accommodating. We were off cruise ship and phoned them, because taxis were not available & within minutes a van was there to pick us up. Room was very clean and comfortable. Charming little balcony to enjoy. Elevator in bldg., very quiet. Breakfast available in separate kitchen shared by 3 rooms. Expresso machine, juices, pasteries, & yougurt available, Emilia met us and served a coffee as she oriented us (her English is very good). She was very helpful and gave us her cell phone number, dining recommendations which we used (both restaurants were very good). Very nice stay, very gracious hosts, We will stay again.

Great B&B Near The Vatican

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. Eliana the owner, and Veronica her assistant made us feel very welcome. They both speak excellent English and are very willing to help with directions and suggestions for restaurants and such. The best thing about this place is it is very close to the Vatican. In fact when you open the windows of your room you can hear the chimes from St. Peters. Our room although small, was very comfortable and spotlessly clean. The attached bath was also very clean and had a toilet, sink and walk in shower with a detachable shower head. There is a breakfast room with a large coffee pot, stove and full size refrigerator. Also a microwave and toaster were both provided as well. It is a do it yourself set up with croissants and assorted pastries provided. There were also various cereals and fruit as well as milk, water and tea. We felt very comfortable there. As a bonus it is located very close to the bus stops and subway. The Castel Sant Angelo is located nearby as well. We definitely would recommend this place to anyone visiting Rome and more especially the Vatican. It is a great value.

The price and quality are perfect

My husband and I went to Rome for a 10 day honeymoon trip, and we picked Sotto La Cupola as our place to stay based on recommendations read on TripAdvisor. We absolutely loved it here and it was in a good location. The popular number 64 bus was only a 1 minute walk and a good walking distance from the Vatican. There are a number restaurants, small market places and shops within walking distance as well.

The beds were comfortable, while firmer than most American beds at first, they are top notch foam beds that contoured to your body. The bathroom was nice, and the staff kept the room and bathroom clean for us every day. We were on the 4th floor and shared a kitchen with 2 other guest rooms, and our neighbors were quiet, along with the surrounding neighborhood at night. We stayed in the Diamante room (Diamond room) and we were very comfortable. The kitchen was accomodating and when we did not eat out for breakfast had enough for us to eat, such as juices, yogurts, a Keurig-like coffee machine, and little biscuits and breads.

I would highly recommend staying here if you are planning your next trip to Rome! Emilia was great and very accomodating.

A clean, convenient B&B in a larger apartment building. Do not expect US hotel style amenities. Very close to the Vatican (The Cupola in Sotto la Cupola). If you have some problems with stairs, you may have to climb some steps to the elevator.

The owner is very helpful, if you need something printed (like tickets to the Vatican Museum) she will help you out.

Parking is available, but not cheap, but you are talking about the middle of Rome. Overall, a great place to stay. We hope to stay again.

The hotel is hard to find but that is the only negative to it. The location is an easy walk to the Vatican in a very safe area. The room was big with a huge kitchen right outside the bedroom. The owner is right next to the rooms so always available if needed. There was a bus line within a few minute walk that took you to the rest of the Rome attractions. Highly recommend staying here.

We had a great stay at Sotto la Cupola! The room was perfect for our family of four and Emilia was an excellent host (friendly, helpful, accessible). A very short walk to St. Peter's and a long, but doable, walk to the Colosseum. We took the bus into the city center and after a day of exploring found ourselves at the river with a short distance \"home\". I wish we had stayed longer. If I ever make it back to room I would definitely stay at Sotto la Cupola again.

This was our first trip to Rome. Emilia, our host, was amazing. Not only is she fluent in English and French in addition to Italian, but she is very friendly and helpful. She was available to assist whenever needed and offer suggestions. Breakfast was basic, but always there. And the Internet was spotty at times. The location of the apartment is perfect. It is a few blocks from St. Peter's Basilica and close to a main bus line. It is about 6 blocks to the nearest metro station. There are also some good restaurants close by.

Great location, quiet, clean and near Vatican City

This guest house was a pleasant surprise. First, I have to say that Emilia, the property owners, was just fabulous. She contacted me three days prior to my stay to inquire about my arrival time and to offer any assistance we may have needed. We arrived and she met us at the door. She took us to the apartment, which has three guest rooms. She gave us the keys to the room, apartment and building. Showed us the kitchen, coffee machine, great coffee by the way, snacks and drinks that were available to us for breakfast and at any time of the day. The location is literally across the street from Vatican City. You step out of the building and round the corner is St. Peters Basilica. You can see the dome as you walk along the street. There is a great Gelato place called Capitan Cono around the corner, which had great Gelato and was a great treat at the end of the day. We are walkers and we walked everywhere from this location. The furthest we went on foot was to Piazza Nova and Piazza Campo Di' Fiori. We also took the tour buses from St. Peters square. Very convenient location. Emilia was available any time we needed her but for the most part, you are given your keys and you are on your own to come and go as you please. Very nice set up. We will definitely stay here again in a future visit to Rome. Thank you Emilia for your hospitality and attention to our needs!

Very nice for the money. The room was nice size and the bed was comfortable.
The bath and shower were good size. AC worked great. The breakfast was make your own from packaged products, but they were tasty. They had an espresso machine where you could make your own espresso and cappuccino.

The outside and entrance looked a little run down but it is a couple hundred yards from St Peter's and the Vatican.

The host/owners were very nice and accomodating.

Affordable and Comfortable

Spent 4 nights here in March 2015 with my sister and we loved our time at Sotto la Cupola! Emilia was more than gracious and very accommodating! We arrived in Rome very early so she let us keep our luggage in her apartment until the room was ready for us. She also let us do the same thing the day we were checking out. The room was quiet, clean and spacious. Up to date appliances in the shared kitchen and nicely renovated bathroom with traditional European feel to the apartment. However we were the only occupants so it potentially could have been louder if we'd had anyone in the other bedroom of the apartment. The location, a few minute's walk from St. Peter's Square, was very convenient for our touristing. We walked all around Rome and it was a very nice home base. The neighborhood was definitely pretty residential and we found that one night when we wanted an early dinner (6pm), most of the nearby restaurants were closed until 7-7:30, a bit different than restaurants in the tourist areas like around piazza navona or the pantheon. It was great to feel like a local in our own apartment rather than a hotel. Overall it was a fantastic stay and I would definitely stay here again. I cannot stress enough how welcoming and accommodating Emilia was!

Great place, wonderful people!

Emilia and Alessio are the sweetest, very nice and friendly. They gave us a map and directions to some recommended places, which were very nice. We had such a great time, and we are very happy with our stay in this place.

Perfect location for seeing the Vatican

This is not a \"hotel\" per se', it is a bedroom with a personal bath and shower. In our apartment, there were three bedrooms that shared a common hallway and with access to a small kitchen. I had a hard time understanding this from the description on hotels.com. It was very nice and modern, with a safe and a personal a/c unit. My bedroom had a little porch. Lke all beds in Rome, it was like a rock, but I don't think that can be avoided. I stayed in quite a few places in Italy, and I think there were only two places where I considered the beds comfortable by American standards. If you don't plan to spend time lounging in your room, and are needing a place only to shower and sleep, this is a great choice. There are a number of good restaurants around the neighborhood as well. If you want a real treat, eat at \"I San Pietrini\" on Via delie Fomaci, 89...you will thank me.

Nice hotel within walking distance to Vatican

Pro: Very nice room. GREAT coffee machine and coffee in the little kitchen.Within walking distance to Vatican.
Con: Very hard to find. This guest house is in 2 apartment buildings, no sign in front, except for about a 1\" doorbell sign along with all the other tenants of the buildings.

Confort and Pratic Guest House to stay with family

We were happy with this guest house. The owners of the hotel were very nice and helpful. The location was very close to the Vatican.
The room was nice and had a beautiful balcony. There was 3 apartments that are shared with other guests, each with own bathroom, just like a hotel. There was a communal kitchen, which was stocked with water, juice, espresso coffee machine, tea, biscuits, breads, jams, that could be consumed anytime.

Nice place to stay in Rome.

We were very happy with everything except for the bed which was not terribly comfortable. The owner was very friendly and helpful. The price was very good - make sure you do a food and wine tour at the start of your trip!

Great room and Great location

The room was lovely, with a balcony overlooking the inner courtyard. The location was literally across the street from the Vatican!! You are in an apartment with other guest rooms, each with own bathroom, just like a hotel. There is a common area, which is the kitchen, which is stocked with water, juice, coffee, tea, packaged pastries and cereal. The hosts were warm and welcoming and helpful, I would definitely recommend.

A warm and friendly welcome

We received a pre-arrival informative email and a warm welcome on arrival. It is a self catering arrangement with everything provided for a simple breakfast. All very neat and clean. Very convenient for the Vatican and with easy bus access or a healthy walk! to the rest of Rome.

FANTASTIC!!!

5 out of 5 for Sotto La Cupola! Emilia organised a pick up service to and from Rome Fiumicini Airport even though our flight was changed and was coming in at 11:30pm! Wonderful great service, room was well kept and food always stocked. No task too big or too small for Emilia.

She was readily available before and ring the trip. 10 minute walk to the Vatican, I couldn't have asked for more. Definitely would visit again.

Nice but not as advertised

This is not a hotel. Nor is it a guest house. You basically get one room in a two room apartment in a regular residential building. Had we known this we wouldn't have booked - for the same price you can rent a full apartment in the locality.

That said, the hospitality was excellent.

Central location

There is a central kitchen and three rooms. The rooms are small but very clean and well kept. Ours was considered a triple but it is hard to imagine another person in there (we had to pay the triple rate, however). If you are a couple request one of the double rooms - they are basically the same size.

Emilia is very friendly and helpful and lives close by. It is about a 15 minute walk to the historic center, and a stone's throw from the vatican.

Great Place to Stay--Esp for Extended Stay Guests

After looking at 100s of places online, I decided to check out this place--mostly for the location, but also for the great reviews on TripAdvisor. I was very glad I did. After booking this place, the owner contacted me via e-mail. Emilia made me feel very welcome about my stay. She offered to arrange a driver to pick us up at the airport. Having never been to Rome before, this was especially helpful. She was so kind to answer all of my questions. Emilia wonderfully worked with us regarding our arrival time and scheduled activities. They really didn't work out according to the standard check-in/check-out times, but I had given Emilia our entire schedule well ahead of time to see if anything would be a problem. I really didn't know what kind of place this was, but we soon learned upon our arrival.
Emilia & her family own 2 apartments on the 2nd floor of their building. They live right next door. Each apartment has 2-3 bedrooms. We (3 of us) rented the Triple Room, which is in the 2-bedroom apartment. We had access to our room, the bathroom, & the kitchen. We never saw/heard from those in the other bedroom. The place was very clean. Because we were only there 1 night, we really just needed a place to sleep & a place to shower the next morning. We got both! I would definitely stay there again. I would highly recommend this place for those staying several weeks or months.
1 note regarding location: It's nearly across the street from Vatican City, but there is no street noise!

very comfortable and run by lovely people

incredibly kind and lovely owners. the room was immaculate and very comfortable. lovely bathrooms, was very clean. my only negative thing is that the walls were very thin and you could hear people in the other rooms. I loved the breakfast room and the way you could help yourself to the food / drinks anytime of the day or night. great WiFi. great hotel, thanks for a clean, relaxed and lovely place to stay while we were in rome :)

Our first choice for a perfect guest house in Rome

Room and apartment was bright, clean, had everything we needed and wanted, and was in a perfect location right next to the train station, St Peter's and some very nice reasonably priced restaurants. The owners were very friendly and helpful and this would be our first choice of accommodation if/when we should return to Rome. Thank you, Emilia and Alessio for everything.

The accommodation was clean and tidy, the dishes were washed and the room was cleaned every day. The room was small and not as luxurious as in the picture but comfortable. We were served croissants for breakfast every day, there was milk, yogurt and fruit juices. Coffee was served from the Lavazza coffee machine. Please note, this is a three bedroom apartment with shared kitchen facilities and if you book a room you may have neighbors. We felt very comfortable (19 - 23.03.2024) and Emilia was always available for questions via WhatsApp. The location is great, 900m to St. Peter's Square and 9 bus stops to Piazza di Venezzia. The bus stop is a few minutes away. I would recommend this accommodation.

Prior to the arrival, we had private contact with the host. She gave us all of the necessary information, so everything was very clear.
When we got to the apartment, we got a very friendly welcome. She showed us around and explained some things about Rome and sightseeing points. That was very helpful.
Every morning there were fresh pastries and coffee. Very nice!

The only thing that could of made our stay even better was the bathroom. The shower sometimes did not give us hot water. And also there is barely any room to put your bathroom things on, there are no shelves etc in the bathroom.

Otherwise, everything was very clean. Proper bed, which was a treat. And every day the bed was made, when we got home.

So overall, it was a very nice stay!

Muy bueno.

Excelente, estacion de tren cerca y área del Vaticano muy cerca, el bus te deja frente al edificio supermercado en frente y restaurantes, salón de belleza,lavandería muy cerca todo bastante accesible en tren estás en 20 minutos en termini.
Excelente atención.
