We stayed in the Overlook Lodge. There are no staff members in attendance -- you must check in a half mile away at the Inn. You need your room key to get into the lobby of the lodge day or night. Our room was on the second floor -- it was only accessible by a long flight of stairs. Don't bring a large suitcase..

The room was clean, more than adequate, the surroundings are beautiful, peaceful, and quiet never heard another person for three nights. If you have a car everywhere in the Metropolitan area is easily accessible save yourself the toll on the Cuomo and cross the Bear Mountain Bridge for free.

The property is beautiful. The rooms are clean. The bathrooms are very small but clean. I enjoyed the free Friday concert. The biggest reason I was a bit disappointed in our stay was the pool was closed and the zoo did not have any bears. I feel these things should have been disclosed prior to booking. The pool was one of the resets we chose the property.

The Overlook is outdated, as stated by a few past guests however it was very clean throughout. I think if they added a fresh coat of paint to all the doors it would make it feel more inviting. Our room was quite spacious. The Overlook is not where the Inn is - that is where you have to check in first and their cafe, gift shop and restaurant are all there. We ate dinner at 1915 - food was very good! Our waitress, Debbie, was wonderful. Walking around Lake Hessian was a delight and added bonus for us to enjoy. We stayed here after visiting the Outlets at Woodbury Commons, and met our needs.

Staying at Bear Mountain Inn was amazing. Hessian Lake is beautiful. The park and trails are clean and hiking here is very good. We loved the Bear Mountain Zoo and all the exhibits. Staff here are very good. I highly recommend staying here. The rooms, decor, staff and ambiance are top notch. We will be back very soon!!

While the room was clean, it was very outdated. There was a big hole in the closet door. Shower was lukewarm warm at best. It was a pity we were not staying at the actual lodge. Being down the street meant adding expense getting Ubers back and forth to the restaurant. Did not have the breakfast as that meant driving back to the lodge.

The cabin we stayed it was unique, but lots of walking from your car on a slanted walkway. Shared den and the room smelled heavily of smoke from the inner fireplace. Small room and tiny old bathroom. Not what we were expecting from the pictures. Received an odd email about checkin but nothing told us the building near our cabin (room) was closed and we had to drive to the big building elsewhere. Very soft bed. Windows in cabin look out to where everyone walks. Bit of an odd setup unless you have friends renting the pther rooms in the cabin. Maybe better in-season. The area is lovely so we'll be back but not to this hotel.

The hotel is a bit dated to some but that’s what keeps the city rif raff away. Hikers and outdoor enthusiasts stay here so be prepared to use the grounds and stay outside most of the time. When you finally do crash inside you will find very comfortable beds, amazing views and complimentary water. Internet was good. Main Inn restaurant food was delicious. Catering food fantastic. Shared areas with fireplaces were perfect. No elevator but only 2 floors.

I had reserved a room in the Lodge but without warning was shifted to the Summit Stone Cottage. Not very clean. The bathroom door hit the vanity so it would only open halfway. Had to sneak in sideways. Dumb installation. Not happy.

The facility is keep in excellent condition. Built in 1915 the building and grounds are a jewel. Dinner in the historic main dining room was outstanding. The only negative was the breakfast in the downstairs cafe. Poor quality and service. I suggest you eat breakfast elsewhere.

Bathroom toilet was not cleaned nor flushed. Someone had used it, not flushed. My 5 year old daughter went in as soon as we walked in the room and told us about it. I was offered to change rooms which meant I would have had to drive another mile back to the main lobby to get new card. I decided to clean the toilet and flush it myself. VERY bad, yet a simple thing that should not occur.

We stayed at the cottages which were clean and welcoming. The only thing to keep in mind is that the common area IS common, so if you don’t want to socialize, it might not be the space for you. We had a party with us that all knew each other (and we were the only room who didn’t) and they hung out there all night talking. Not a fault of the property, but maybe stay in the main inn if you’re looking for a little more privacy.

We had a great stay in one of the stone cottage. This was a good starting point for hiking in bear mountain as well as shopping at the outlet. We stayed for two nights over the winter holidays. Only disappointment was that while the common area in the cottage has a cozy fire place, seating in front of the fire was limited to two armchairs and every single time we came back from our outings, they were already taken :(

The first night of our stay it was quite chilly in the room, and the internet WiFi was down. But the rest of the time during our stay was just fine. I didn’t realize the stay was in one of the stone cottages and not the Inn itself. My fault for not reading the specifics later in the itinerary. They only show the beautiful main lodge in all the photos with the booking so the impression is that is where you stay. The room itself was fine. Very tiny bathroom, but it works. It was a difficult nights sleep as there was a room next to us with a dog that barked every time the heat kicked on. Needless to say that was at regular intervals. All in all, a nice place to stay.

First off, I didn’t realize I had reserved a cottage (my fault for not reading the fine print) and we ended up in a very small cottage room that shared a common area with a large fireplace. It sounds quaint but it’s really kind of awkward as you can hear everyone in the surrounding rooms and you become the first thing they see when they come out. The only way I’d recommend renting one of these on purpose is if you had your whole family occupy the cottage. Other than that, it’s exactly what you would think a cottage built in the 30’s would be like including the smell. Didn’t necessarily smell bad, just old. The clerk that checked us in was fantastic, knowledgeable and friendly.

Staying at the Beaver \"Stone Cottage\" (a 3 min drive away from the main hotel) has been my worst experience at a hotel yet. The walls are paper thin, and when people slam or close their room door, you hear as if you are in the same room. My neighbors decided to stay up late into the night, far after 1am, and I heard every laugh and comment, every door closing, despite putting in ear buds.
In addition, there was not a strong enough signal on the internet, that was supposed to be available, so I could never connect to the internet, as it was non existent.
When I talked to the front desk, the clerk was unhelpful and wouldn't offer a complimentary breakfast or discount on any fututre stays. I was surprised at her callousness towards my night, which didn't help at all. There should be a warning on the website that if you expect to get a good nights rest, the customer will not receive one. I'm sure in the main hotel, my experience would have been quite different. In my opinion, this \"hotel' was more akin to the lowest quality \"motel\" you could seek to stay at. I never complain, so this review shows how bad this stay was.

This is my 2nd time staying here. I love it. Although last night while I was sleeping I heard some noise coming from the floor where I had my bag. I remember I had a closed bag of chips. I heard lots of noise coming from my bag bookbag. And when I woke up. I see the new bag of chips had a whole where a rodent tried to get into the bag. A little disappointed.

Staff wasn’t too friendly or helpful. The room was very small and outdated. The tvs are old and the bathrooms are terrible. The tub was dirty and the water came out brown and very very tiny. Expected a little more considering it was a nice area and nice scenery but I’ve been to motels better than this.

The room was fine. Check-in was a tad confusing because I thought I booked the Overlook Lodge and instead booked the stone cottages which are a part of it. You check in at the main inn. All of this was in notes in the email, but not straightforward to me.
- There were lots of quirks that made it less than ideal. The room was barely heated. When I called the front desk to find out how to turn it up, they said that it was centrally located for the building. They did offer to turn it up.
- There is an emergency door located in the room which has a keypad on the outside. It wasn’t a problem, but I did inquire if anyone could use it to get in. They said only management. There is also an emergency sign with a light that illuminates the room at night.
- The bathroom door swings in (because of access to the emergency door) resulting in limited access to the sink. You either have to shut the door and squeeze between the door and sink to use it or reach over the toilet to access it. The tub does not drain quickly and space is restricted here as well.
The hot water in the shower is very strong. And the bed was comfortable. A log is provided if you want to use the cottage community fireplace.
