This property is the place to stay in Astoria! We stayed in the Ice House Suite and it was perfection. The staff is so friendly and helpful as well. We will return and stay in the suite again. Just a beautiful property on the Columbia, view of Astoria Bridge and a platform on site for the sea lions to rest if you enjoy sea life. The views were breathtaking!

Great and friendly staff. I used the room service and it was quick and well presented. Amenities are great as well as the toiletries and room coffee and tea. The room itself was sparkling clean and so cozy. It felt like staying on a boat, with panoramic windows of the river. The surrounding area is walkable, but close to a homeless camp.

Hotel was beautiful! Location was great, very walkable to coffee shops, restaurants and breweries. The fireplace in the room, the soaking tub and the comfy bed made for a luxurious stay. We enjoyed the sauna, and the room had cozy robes to wear. The staff was friendly and helpful, Katie at the front desk made us feel so welcome! Would 100% come back to Astoria just to stay at this hotel.

We loved our stay at Bowline. We parked the car and didn't have to use it the entire trip because we could walk to everything we wanted to see. We loved seeing the trolley and the sea lions on a daily basis. The saunas on the river are wonderful. The bed was so comfortable. The staff was so friendly. Getting a nightcap with that view at the beautiful bar was perfect. We loved everything!

Lovely room and location. We had one of the suites and it was perfect. . . except for the typical overly soft hotel mattress. Staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. Breakfast at the Knot Bar wasn't great. Wait service was friendly and the atmosphere was cozy but with only 4 patrons in the restaurant, it was an awfully long wait for a dutch pancake and a quiche.

Beautiful property, well maintained and the sauna overlooking the water was the icing on top. I had a great time here. I would recommend bring ear plugs if you're a light sleeper. The sound of the docks and water got quite loud at night and woke me a few times. I would definitely stay here again.

Fun quirky hotel with updated and well-maintained building...of note: structure have exposed reused/recycled woodbeams throughout. Nice big updated bathroom with a shower wort remembering. We didnt wanna leave. Dining room with bar was nice, the foods they serve had 'Scandinavian' theme, per receptionist. Dining room also faced river, which was nice. Centrally located next to all great restaurants and dives. No dedicated parking lot unless one pays $15 for valet. We parked just off street without issue. All staff were pleasant. Site has sauna (we did not use, we have one at home).

The Bowline was genuinely beautiful. The room was great, and the balcony view of the river was so peaceful. The in-room bathtub was perfect for relaxing, and the bed and pillows were incredibly comfortable. The fireplace is controlled by the thermostat, which made it really easy to turn on and made the room feel extra cozy.

My only slight confusion was the “resort fee.” It’s only $15, but this definitely isn’t a traditional resort with a pool, gym, spa, etc. That said, there is a barrel sauna on one end of the property, so I’m guessing that may be what the fee goes toward. The room also comes with a refillable carafe of water that you can refill near the bar area.

The breakfast/restaurant area is pretty small, so I’d recommend exploring some of the nearby cafes instead. Also, some reviews mentioned noise, but that wasn’t my experience at all. The whole place felt calm, quiet, and really serene.

A modern waterfront hotel in a perfect location with a wonderful staff. It’s within walking distance of many restaurants, breweries, and downtown. The only downside is parking, as there is no dedicated lot. Street parking is available, and valet is an option if you arrive early before it fills up.
Would stay here again.

Location was excellent. The noisy sea lion won’t let you enjoy the view nor will make you sleep. They offer ear buds to help with the noise but I would like to sleep as natural as possible. The mattress was like tempurpredic- not for me so I wasn’t able to sleep at all. Valet parking is a must and it’s doable at $15/day.

The drinks were beautiful, along with the view at the bar. Our room was beautiful and the coffee was GREAT! Everything was perfect from start to end. One person working the bar could have been more pleasant - dark-headed girl. Smiling would help out a lot. We loved it there. We think the sea walrus should be named and they should have a cam-same thing with all of the ships...we learned so much watching them from our window and looking to see what flag they are flying. Everything about the Bowline with the exception of housecleaning was excellent. I was disappointed that the beds weren’t made and the floors were not vacuumed
when housekeeping serviced the room. they did change the towels but that was it. Generally the room was clean when we arrived and maybe because we were just there for 2
nights they kept the cleaning lite. i’m ok with that if they had given us a heads up to set expectations.

Unfortunately, our room had quite a bit of dog hair, which made it feel less clean than expected. There was also no hot water when I went to take a shower. I mentioned this to the staff, and while they thanked me for letting them know, nothing was offered to address the issue. Additionally, there was a strong unpleasant smell outside the property, though that was clearly not the hotel’s fault.

I don't travel much so I was surprised when I was charged $15.00 while checking out for the coffee in my room, the use of the sauna and pool. I didn't use the sauna or the pool. I did drink the coffee in the room because I assumed it was complimentary. For $200.00 a night I think coffee should be included. Four stars for the friendly staff...

This is such an adorable boutique hotel. I’d totally stay again! I’d only warn others of the banging wave’s and loud sea lions at night (although it was fun seeing them). But they provide ear plugs and a fan to help drown out the noise. I didn’t have the best nights sleep but I enjoyed the atmosphere And comfort of the ambiance and attention to detail. Truly, Loved it.

Really lovely hotel. Great design features and location. The bed was possibly the most comfortable that I have ever slept on! I need to find out (because I forgot to ask) the make of the mattress :)
I loved the fact that the hotel was right on the water and did not have the usual carpet in the rooms and elsewhere.
Downside -- Due to the seals being right there, if you are a light sleeper then this might not be the place for you to stay...which is a shame because we loved it!

My wife and I have been traveling up and down the PNW coast for a few years now, and stayed at dozens of hotels. The Bowline Hotel in Astoria is our new favorite!

We checked in, fully intending to leave and explore Astoria, but after seeing the hotel and our rooms we decided to just stay in. The room was beautiful, with a great view of the river, and nice decor, as well as a large bath. We ended up not even leaving our room, just ordering room service (which was delicious) and some cocktails (also fantastic).

Our room faced the river, and we woke up early enough to watch the sea lions that sleep under the pier swim out below our balcony, it was a fantastic experience!

Great location and nice staff! Plenty of street parking no need to valet and walking distance to a lot of places. But the room is not worth $500 a night. There’s no elevator you have to carry luggage through a flight of stairs. Also there’s no closet in the room, the sea lions are too noisy and the strong smell of sulfur from the river was just overwhelming. Will stay in Seaside or Cannon Beach next time.

We’ve been coming here for several years for special occasions - it’s getting hard to justify the price when the quality we were used to just wasn’t there this time. The front desk person was very friendly and helpful, and even allowed us to check in a half hour early - which was much appreciated! No offer of champagne at check in like the previous several times - not a big deal! Most other staff we encountered were curt and felt oddly hostile. The room we were in felt a little run down. The fireplace wasn’t working at first, and while the front desk employee was able to get it working after messing around with it - the heat was touch and go all evening. The TV was also very glitchy and would randomly close out of shows and return to the main menu screen, or just turn off all together. One of the chairs at the little table area didn’t have the seat completely attached to the legs and was very wobbly, and the other had some pretty obvious and gross looking stains on the seat. The room was the second one off the lobby, and so it was very loud from the bar / restaurant - children running and screaming up the hallway late at night. We ended up getting engaged on this trip, and this hotel was our “special place.” We stepped into the bar area after he proposed to celebrate with champagne, but we were just stared at awkwardly until we were asked to leave because our dog was with us. (Totally understandable! But the way it was addressed felt standoffish and strange.) Really bummed.

The room was great and the bed was very comfortable. I found the sound of sea lions to be a highlight of the hotel. There were two things we didn’t love: 1. The bathroom door doesn’t allow for privacy. It slides one way or the other leaving a gap on either side. 2. The female employee working the morning of 11.9.25 was very unfriendly, verging on rude. She seemed generally annoyed with us as soon as we sat down for breakfast. We hadn’t finished ordering our meal when she walked away. It felt like we were putting her out. All other staff we came across were great!

Staff needs hospitality training for sure. They just miss the mark on creating good moments with customers. Example, not allowing someone to swap out the free Champaign for a Diet Coke. Another example, charging you $25 for a late check out at 12:20. Having a 5 min answering message you must listen to when you call the hotel before you can speak to a live person. Small petty things I know, but honestly “how you do anything is how you do everything” it was one thing on top of another. Sea lions under the hotel, and then our rooms actually open up to the street! Wife and kids didn’t feel safe with a glass door anyone could walk right up to and knock on your door. Place is classy and it’s in a great location.

Spider webs covering chairs and tables outside made it difficult to enjoy the view from the patio. Room had flies and other bugs along with spider webs throughout. Sink was clogged, making it slow to drain. Blow dryer wouldn’t work on “high” setting. Limited bathroom counter space. Bathtub truly is exposed to entire room, including sitting area and outside of your curtains aren’t closed. I could have used more hangers considering robes take up 2 of them. Appreciated the complimentary beverage, lotions and cleansers were pleasant scent, and the bed was VERY comfortable (but not the overstuffed pillows). No microwave in room.

This place is a hoot! The staff is very friendly and helpful. Rooms were nicely appointed. Huge shower. Comfortable for our dog. Restaurant was excellent to our surprise. The funniest part of this place is it's built right on top of a sea lions landing place. If you're a light sleeper, know what you're getting yourself into. But they do a great job providing a white noise machine and earplugs. We didn't hear anything and it was really fun to see all the sea lions stacked up on top of each other. We also stayed on the trolley side. Next time we would get a view room because it really is a lovely view.

The facility was very clean and modern. Staff was fantastic! The view of the river is intoxicating and the convenience to restaurants and shopping could not be any better.
The biggest downside was the sea lions that have taken up residency underneath the hotel (it sits on a pier). If you are noise sensitive as we are, this might not be for you.
The management has made every attempt to alleviate the noise by providing earplugs and white noise machines. Unfortunately, these water rodents like to position themselves directly under certain rooms and the noise comes up through the pipes in the bathroom.
It truly is bad that theses critters has impacted such a nice hotel. They are not even resident sea lions, so you can't say that they were there first.
This hotel is above standards even with the sea lions. My suggestion when reserving a room is to reserve one on the river side far from the nucleus of these critters. The staff can recommend which is better.
Going back to the staff, hats off to Jim, the savior and all around great guy!
