The hotel is in a great location close to all the shops and restaurants. We appreciated being able to store our bags at the hotel prior to check in and having the bags delivered to our room was a nice touch.
The mini bar fridge is useful.

Arrived Sunday afternoon, all lights in reception were off and felt very unwelcoming. No heating in room was very cold. Was told would turn thermostat up but made no difference. Radiators cool, room cold. Unpleasant damp smell in bathroom.

Very well located. Only disappointment was that the hotel car park was full. If the website had made clear that this needed to be booked, I would have done so. As it was I had to lug heavy bags quite a distance with no offer of help. On the plus side, breakfast was excellent

Wonderful in every way!

Oh my goodness, what can I say about this hotel except you must stay here! Everything was wonderful from start to finish. On arrival the excellent signs guide you through the narrow streets to the hotel garage. Make sure your book a place as they are popular & there is no real obvious alternative. The welcome from Cindy could not have been warmer, check-in super quick & we were soon wandering round this beautiful city as the hotel is in the centre. The room was beautiful with lovely views of the streets below. The bed was comfortable, the bathroom huge & there was no noise all night. Breakfast was not the cheapest at 9 euros but exceptional in every way & well worth it! Only tiny negative was the door handle had been fitted the wrong way so you had to hold the door knob turned to unlock the door! Love this hotel & will definitely be back.

Parked in the car park 5 min walk from hotel for 7 euros for 24 hours
Hotel is well appointed and furnished. Room was big enough with very large bathroom and good size TV.
Breakfast was excellent and extensive choices and good to see Gluten Free options too.
Saintes looks a lovely city and would like to come back when we have more time and would definitely choose this hotel again

Big rooms, no AC

Hotel is in walking zone, so you’ll need a little bit of a walk to park your car - you’re on your own there. Rooms were large and generally comfortable. Bed and couch included. There was an out of season heat wave going and sadly no AC was available. That’s my only complaint. Definitely walk over to see the Roman amphitheater.

Staff were friendly and helpful. The room was pre-paid and the receptionist phoned at 8pm to offer us a code for access if we were going to arrive after 9pm. We arrived at 8.40pm and just managed to get in the garage which was then secure for the night.

Interesting place for a stop-over

We stayed overnight here whilst driving from the Algarve to Cherbourg. It's right in the centre of the old town which makes it easy to see something interesting after a long drive. There is a car park which you have to book. Everyone very friendly and all spoke excellent English.

The best option, definitely the best hotel in Saintes.

I was given the room No 23, which was very spacious and accommodating. The staff was extremely friendly - everyone spoke English.

The location was just perfect. Right in the middle of many shops and restaurants.

Breakfast was available at a very affordable price.

Definitely will stay here again.

Great stopover

Stopped in Saintes as a stopover on route from channel ferries to the south west and the distance suited us really well. The staff at Citotel des Messageries were proactive in ringing us beforehand to ensure they understood our sleeping requirements, and were equally friendly on arrival (which is actually why I'm bothering to review it :) ). The hotel has a lot of character but is well equipped and has easy access to secure parking. We had a good en suite room, and an excellent continental breakfast. There is easy access to the centre of town and a riverside walk in the evening. Saintes itself is worth an overnight visit with some well preserved history including some roman remains in the city centre and the ruins of a roman amphitheatre a short drive from the centre which is very cheap to get into... worked well for teenagers as we left the next day. Also there's good shopping and restaurants available. We'll be travelling this route again.

Quuirky hotel in the centre of Saintes

Lovely quiet hotel with quirky decor. The location is very convenient to visit Saintes and all the restaurants and bar in the area. We had dinner in a wonderful restaurant, Les remparts which was good and certainly very cheap, slightly more expensive than the price of a breakfast in French hotels! The hotel had a paying private parking situated very close to the hotel.
Very good internet connection. Breakfast of same standard as other hotels chains

Very good location to explore the city. Attractive decor making the best of very old buildings. Excellent service and excellent good quality breakfast although croissants ran out on the Saturday morning which was quite busy. We would have been more comfortable if we had paid for a token for the air con in our room which was very hot but it was not mentioned and no idea how long 6 Euros would last.. No ventilation in the bathroom which does not appear to be mandatory in French hotels. Poor outlook from our room on to narrow alley and above the hotel laundry facilities. Small wardrobe for a longer stay but overall a comfortable room and happy with service and stay.

Mid-size hotel with a bed and breakfast feel

The friendly and helpful staff and the cozy beach house decor made our stay at Hotel des Messageries a real pleasure. We and our dog were made to feel very welcome. The location was perfect - walking distance to anything you'd want to see. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone heading to Saintes!

La chambre etait propre et tranquille et les dames a la reception nous avons donne un bon acceuil. Les Messageries est toujours notre hotel de choix quand nous sommes a Saintes en route pour le sud-ouest de la France apres avoir quitte Roscoff. Le petit dejeuner offre des choix varies. Le vieux batiment est a la fois tres interessant et tres beau.

Suite au delà de nos attentes. Salle de bain avec bain à remou alors que nous attendions qu’une douche. Petit bémol sur la propreté des joints de carrelage qui m’ont mis mal à l’aise. Ils sont jaunis, il faut se mettre à la place de la personne dans le bain et voir ce qu’elle voit. Malgré cela nous reviendrons mais avec un produit et une éponge.

Loin d'être satisfaisant !

Mon expérience a été loin d'être satisfaisante. Lors de ma réservation, j'avais clairement indiqué que je souhaitais une chambre avec baignoire. Cependant, à mon arrivée, j'ai été très déçu de découvrir que ma chambre ne disposait pas de baignoire et qu'il n'y avait pas de chauffage non plus. La température dans la chambre était très basse, ce qui rendait mon séjour inconfortable.
Face à cette situation, j'ai dû insister auprès du personnel pour obtenir un chauffage d'appoint pour la première nuit, ce qui n'était pas une solution idéale. Lorsque j'ai demandé à changer de chambre pour la deuxième nuit, le personnel m'a d'abord informé que l'hôtel était complet. Cependant, en vérifiant en ligne, j'ai constaté qu'il y avait encore des chambres disponibles. Après avoir montré cette preuve à la réception et après de longues discussions avec le personnel, j'ai finalement réussi à obtenir une autre chambre. Malheureusement, cela m'a coûté 50€ de plus, ce qui était assez frustrant.
En outre, l'accueil et l'amabilité du personnel laissaient à désirer. Ils semblaient avoir du mal à dire bonjour aux clients et à adopter une attitude conviviale. Ce manque de courtoisie a contribué à mon insatisfaction générale lors de mon séjour.
Mon expérience à l'Hôtel Les Messageries a été décevante et inconfortable. Les problèmes rencontrés avec la chambre, le manque de chauffage et l'attitude du personnel ont eu un impact négatif sur mon séjour. En conséquence, je ne peux attribuer qu'une 🌟 à cet h

Déception car pas de parking sur place(séjour en semaine) Il vaut mieux donc appeler la réception en avance pour vérifier la disponibilité. Parking payant dans les rues jouxtant l’hôtel mais si vous êtes chargé avec bagages et enfants moyennement pratique . La chambre très spécieuse et conforme . Cela sentait l’humidité mais rien d’alarmant.
