Room, location and overall amenties were excellent. Only small issue was parking. We parked in one of the spots that we thought was avaiable to us, but we were given a notice that says we parked in a private.
Some clearer distinction on what was eligible to park at would be nice.

The staff at the property were nice, but no money has been put into the property for many years. It is extremely tired. The WIFI did not work, and cell service was suspect. There was no parking spot available when I arrived on Saturday night as well. On the plus side, the neighborhood is great.

When I read the reviews before me, I was weary, but having grown up in the Bay Area and gone to Sausalito many times I gave this place a try. This is a classic, bay boutique hotel, and I loved it! It’s an old house, so it has a lot of charm. If you come in expecting it to be like a true hotel; you’ve set expectations incorrectly. It was very clean, very spacious, very safe, and the staff was very kind. They have water and coffee for you, and it is a quick walk away from restaurants and shops that are true to the heart of Sausalito. Looking forward to staying here in the years to come.

When I received a call from the front desk to ask what time I was checking in or if I needed a parking space, he was not very kind at all. We’ve never been there before. How would I know if I needed a parking space. When I was questioning that he didn’t seem very friendly. Upon arrival, it appeared that he the front desk did not enjoy his job and did not want to be bothered by anybody. Very disappointing when you’re going to a place like that spending a lot of money.

Unfortunately this bed and breakast has gone down hill in the last 6 years. We stayed in 2019 and loved it and now the breakfast is gone (they claim Marin county wont allow it even though covid era mandates are over for a long time now) and the room was terrible (yellow stained curtains and no AC)
Skip this place and stay at Casa Madrina (we will next time)

We stayed 4 nights. Rooms were large. Bedding and pillows were wonderful and I slept very well. Location was great, just off the main walkable street with many shops and restaurants. My sisters family’s room had an outdoor patio off the sidestreet with a bay view where all seven of us could gather each day. We walked to the ferry and took it to San Francisco where we took a streetcar to the end of the route and walked a couple blocks to a bike shop for a scheduled bike tour that ended in Sausalito. We also took a day trip to John Muir Woods, an old growth coastal redwood forest about a 20 minute drive NW. Weather was excellent the whole time. Sunny and 70,s.

The room was good. The view was fabulous. Only negative was there was no place to sit in the room. The porch was lovely and we did sit there. But once in the room there was no chair only the bed to sit on. Loved the location. Staff were helpful. Would definitely go back. Thanks for the dining recommendations. Angelino was excellent.

We absolutely loved the property and the rooms. There was an awful smell in our room that would not go away. The fan system did not clear out the smell and the room was uncomfortably warm. I believe someone snaked in the room often which made the filters smell as well. I told the people at the front desk and they are going to try and clean it out. But other than the smell everything was great.

Lovely people, beautiful old historic feeling place. There were a few idiosyncrasies related to it being an older building that were not ideal for a romantic anniversary trip (needing a loud fan and sleeping with windows open, a little less private feeling than expected including on the balcony), also the decor in the room left a little to be desired, but despite those types of things, it’s a beautiful unique place right downtown, and we loved our experience and being walking distance from everything. Also the staff was very very kind! Thank you :)

The room was very historic feeling, but nicely maintained. I only wish I had a room with a view! It would be nice to have a place to purchase snacks, drinks, etc. But overall great.

Can get a bit warm during day with afternoon sun but overall comfortable and box fan helped to pull in outside air. We stayed in the Cedar Room. Nice setup. Zachariah was very informative about the best places to eat. Great location, so didn’t have to drive around. Just walk. Only problem was the parking. Tight garage had a water pipe and I backed in and hit a water pipe and smashed the car taillight.

Summer Ladies Weekend

The Gables Inn is a really cool, clean and welcoming place. Our room was very spacious with a side door to the patio where you can see the bay while drinking your morning coffee. My rooms ac unit was not working and it was pretty warm throughout the day at 74 degrees inside the room, making it difficult to get ready for the night activities. The staff were friendly and provided great recommendations to grab fresh croissants and coffee. Overall I would give this stay a 8/10.

We didn’t know this is a house changed into a hotel. The room is right behind the check-in counter and right in front of another room. There’s no privacy. We can literally see and hear other residents. The AC doesn’t work too. The room is spacey. If you are on the road and need a place to crash it’s fine, but we are bay area locals and were looking for a get away, at this condition, we’d rather cancel and go home.

This cute hotel feels cozy and has great views of Alcatraz and SF. Cute little balconies to sit and have a drink on. No breakfast or food on site, but walkable to everything. Our room was super roomy. No A/C, but we slept with windows open and had a nice breeze through the room. It has a bit of an older feel to it, but we found that super charming. Would come back!

Wonderful weekend getaway in Sausalito

My husband and I spent a weekend in Sausalito and San Francisco, and The Gables Inn was the perfect place to stay on our trip. We stayed in the Cedar Room, which was clean, comfortable, and spacious. Walking outside, you see the wonderful view of San Francisco across the Bay right away. The staff was very friendly, helped us with parking and recommendations for restaurants. The parking can get tricky, but the staff went out of their way to ask another guest to move their car a bit so we could fit into the last spot. The Inn is charming as a base for a trip. It doesn't offer food, but there are many restaurants within a short walking distance. Sausalito as a whole is beautiful, with great food, fun to explore, and very close to San Francisco if you want to do day trips (can be reached by car or ferry). Overall a very enjoyable stay, we'd come again!

Our room was very clean. But very sterile and not cozy. The one chair in it was so small and child like. All the furniture felt like it was from IKEA. Super thin walls, we could hear the kids next to us early in the morning. The patio was 2 plain chairs and a small table in the dirt. They use actual keys for the room. And charge extra for parking that is sketchy to fit into the space. Very comfortable bed. Good walkable location.

Overall the inn was nice but we are older and the 3 flights of steep stairs was brutal. They need to put a warning on that room. The place was clean and the man at the desk was nice . But boy the stairs alone would keep me from staying there again.

This is a very old hotel but they’ve done a good job of updating the rooms & appointments in the rooms. Love the claw foot bath tub in the Juniper Room. But the stairs are very steep and no elevator. Heating is quirky. Location is great…steps away from the ferry station.

The staff was very friendly and helpful, and the communication was excellent. The only complaint is that we had reserved a cozy room (spruce) with a fireplace and a sofa, and because there was some construction planned, the night staff put us in a room (#208) which was fine, but a bit stark compared to what we had booked - no sofa or fireplace. The morning staff apologized, saying that we should have had been put in a comparable room. Overall, the room was pretty clean. I would recommend putting a doormat inside the room, since it had been raining, we were tracking in wet footprints.
We would stay here again.

We loved the view from our deck. Especially in the winter with the leaves gone from the trees. We had a gorgeous sunrise, we watched the ferry boats go to and fro to SF and Alcatraz.

Overall a nice stay, a couple opportunities for improvement. The Pros: Great location, charming building, room was very clean, bed was super comfy, service was friendly. Cons: I've never heard noisier pipes in my life! Bring earplugs because if the room next to you is taking a shower, you're going to KNOW IT lol, it was unreal how loud the plumbing was. Also I heard the steam from the shower in the room next to me set off the fire alarm 3 times in a row (walls are paper thin so I heard them discussing it, and my room's alarm went off too). Also, a couple key items in my room (207) were missing: there are no towel hooks or anyplace to hang a bath towel? I just draped a wet towel over a chair bc there was nowhere else? There are also no coat hooks, no place to put a coat, besides a tiny closet with one singular hanger. Really needs a couple coat hooks on the wall near the door. Lastly the shower had no shelf or anyplace at all to put soap so I had to put soap on the floor! Just a couple small things that felt like obvious misses. Still a nice stay and I'd stay here again.
