Staff were very welcoming and accommodating. The hotel was clean and is also in a great location for exploring. The only drawbacks are that the air conditioning is not switched on in winter, when it’s 23 degrees Celsius in February this is not acceptable as my room was boiling. The front desk were very helpful and switched my room to another on the other side of the building. This room was much cooler although the street noise was loud until the early hours.

If you want to sleep before the nightclub closes at 4am across the street don’t book this hotel. The windows provide no sound proofing and the street is full of people going in and out of the nightclub till 4 am. It’s a nice hotel but the location lets it down. Thank goodness it was only an overnight stay. Worst Barcelo I have ever stayed in.

Excellent location within the tourist section of the city. Everything is a short walk away from the hotel. The pick of restaurants, tourist attractions and of course the beach.

Very friendly and helpful hotel staff, easy check-in process (although the online check-in option before you arrive didn't work for me).

Amazing breakfast options from cooked bacon, sausage and eggs, cooked vegetables mix which I haven't seen anywhere else. Cold meats, cheese, bread etc. Limitless coffee and tea from a single machine (so be prepared to queue).
More pastries than you can possibly eat in a week of breakfasts.
Excellent value for money.

The room we had was unfortunately on the first floor, which means NO windows. At least not usable as it opens onto a vertical shaft that has all the air conditioning and heating ducts in it. No daylight.
The room was a family room, so a decent size. Good sized bathroom with an excellent walk in shower. Plenty of towels, although paper thin. Plenty of USB sockets around the room for charging stuff, which was very welcome. Apart from the suitcase full of European adapters I had hauled all the way from home!

The Occidental is equal to, if not slightly better than the chain hotels from Travelodge and Premier Inn we have here in the UK. Very clean and functional without cluttering up with too much character.

Would happily stay here again, but if staying more than one night we would ensure a room with a usable window giving some daylight.

Good value for a cheap weekend. Staff were nice and room was clean. Only downside is no kettle in the room which is a pain. However free coffee downstairs at reception but not during breakfast and only the one machine.
The location is good, right in the centre. Airport bus stop almost directly across the road.

I was surprised how small the room was but as a solo traveler it was fit for purpose. On the plus side I did have a terrace with seat and a table. The room was cleaned daily to a good standard which I was happy with. The breakfast was exceptional with lots of choices and a glass of cava which was a nice treat. I asked for my safety deposit box to be fixed - it never was over the 4 night stay - very inconvenient as had to carry my valuables around with me. The air con didn’t work (again this was ignored) and in the muddle of the night the fridge started making a ridiculous noise!

Family room had a smaller 1st room with the potential for 2 single beds & then a lovely large king size plus bed & a shower room.
The beds were comfortable but the truckle bed under the single hadn’t been cleaned & wipes were hidden behind the long curtains.
There was also a gadget that sounded like a coffee machine in the bathroom that kept going off every 20 mins.
We only needed to stay 1 night. It isn’t the type of hotel to stay for more than 2 nights. The view was to an internal “courtyard”. Aircon worked ok. We ate out so can’t comment on the restaurant.

Hotel was great for location - short walk to access lots of restaurants, bars, shops and the beach. We had a huge, comfortable bed and the room had everything we needed. The only thing you need to be careful with is that the door is fully closed and locked. We came back 2 days running where the door could be opened without our key card after room attendants had been in there and if I hadn’t have checked the door when leaving, I would have done this myself too.

I have just returned from a 3 night stay at this property having visited many hotels in Alicante.
The hotel was spotlessly clean and the staff were fantastic.
The bed and pillows are probably the most comfortable I've ever slept in!
Breakfast, although slightly confusing for someone from Scotland (There was a lot of cooked vegetables. I don't understand that!), was fantastic. There is a mixture of breads, sandwiches, yogurts, cereal as well as bacon, eggs beans etc. Absolutely something for everyone.
The room although small had everything I needed and again was spotless and well decorated. The room had an amazing shower which was very relaxing after a day of wandering around.

The only downside to this property (for some) is that it is located directly across from a pub which goes on until 3 or 4 in the morning at the weekend. It is very noisy at the front of the hotel. In all honesty, this didn't bother me as I was in another pub until 4am so it was quiet by the time I returned.

I would certainly return to this hotel without hesitation, but if you are not on holiday for the nightlife, you might have an issue with rooms at the front of the property.

Perfect for stopping over for a concert in the bullring and to explore the City Centre.
Staff was very helpful on checking in, as I hadn’t noticed the the Hotels.com app had again defaulted my booking to a single person, when I booked for 2. I have struggled with the app changing this and my dates (defaulting the date and duration of stay back to the night I was making the booking). Please be careful to triple check your details before paying. Hotels.com are great value but the app is so frustrating.
Room was clean but tight, breakfast was brilliant. Was lovely and quite in room, especially as the hotel was in a nightlife area. Brilliant air conditioning too Thad added up to a perfect sleep.

Very disappointing for a 4-star hotel

Had a larger family-style room.

Positives: breakfast was great; main bed was comfortable; nice location.

But then the negatives:
very awkward room layout (kids have to come through main bedroom to use bathroom); only 1 towel hook for the whole family; floors were somehow lumpy?!; only 1 tiny trash can for the suite; shower leaks massively into the bathroom leaving you with sopping wet towels from drying it up and nowhere to put them; some kind of system beeps from inside the walls ALL NIGHT LONG [we joked there was sonar in there]; key cards repeatedly stopped working; airco barely turns on - there are notes about local policies establishing the limits for the thermostat but then at least put fans in the rooms. No airco and just stuffy stale air with no means to actually cool off. I was there in May - can't imagine how bad it would get by the middle of summer. Door handles are a poor design with sharp edges in narrow spaces leading to more than one minor injury.

Would not stay again.

We got a hotel parking discount so parking was only 9.5 euros for 24 hours!We opted to eat at Madness coffee instead which was incredible! The room was clean and the bed was the most comfy We've stayed in yet! My only minor complaints wer how small the bed area is, garbage can tips over everytime you use it and overuse of air freshner! Nice shower and bathroom! We would stay here again.

Alicante in august

Holiday stop with my sister. Very quiet hotel no noise from the road from my room. Rain shower was superb. Strangely , there was no fan in the bathroom to vent moisture and odours, and the single slide window was quite small, possibly 40 cm by 100 cm in total, with an opening of 20 x 80 cm . Air conditioner produced cool air even when set to 15 degrees. Bed was firm and 2 types of pillows soft and firm were ideal. The breakfast choice was excellent really worth the price. A choice of champagne breakfast was delightful. Hotel receptionists are bilingual, and very very helpful. Cleaning seen, and appreciated during these covid times. Location to the beachfront is a 10 minute stroll. Castle Santa Barbara is 5 minutes away by tram then bus to the top if you do not wish to brave the walk climb up in that sweltering heat. For the disabled, you can take the lift up from the beachfront instead if you do not wish to use the tram then bus. Not many wore masks on the streets, shops, trams or plane, although this was advised by the airline at the request of the Spanish government. Nearest shopping mall plaza del mar 2 is easy to reach by tram or car in 3-5 minutes. Lots of restaurants and local mini- supermarkets. Overall a safe pleasant trip. Would recommend.

We have lots of quibbles with this hotel. In the course of our one night stay, we ended up in three different rooms. Having first been assigned an interior room, we requested one with out-facing windows. That room, however, had such a weak air conditioning unit that we were sweltering. So...we moved back to a different interior room that enabled us to escape from the heat. The front desk staff was helpful and friendly in responding to our requests.
As for the hotel itself, it’s in a primo location--downtown and an easy walk to the esplanade. But the rooms are small and not very well designed or appointed. It was impossible to shower without splashing water out into the bathroom area. Thankfully, there was shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. But there were virtually no other amenities in the room: no water--not even Kleenex tissue.
The one bright spot was the breakfast buffet, which was excellent.

What a fantastic hotel. The breakfast was so lovely and fresh with a nice healthy selection of things, constantly being refreshed by the friendly staff. All the staff were great and willing to help with any questions. The room and bathroom was lovely and clean and included shampoo AND conditioner (which is always a winner for me!). Location was fab, really close walking to the lovely old town and beach/port. The wifi was fast enough to do conference calls and on the day of check out I worked in the lobby which was lovely and quiet for meetings too. I would highly recommend and would definitely go back here again! Thank you

We spent two nights in the Occidental Alicante and overall enjoyed the stay. The room (a standard) was very small, but the bed was comfortable, the wifi fast, and the shower with great pressure. We buoyed the central location of the hotel and the nearby parking. We found one small bug (not a big deal) in the room, and the thermostat wasn’t entirely functional, which resulted in a room that was rather warm. We would stay again but just for a night or two.

We stayed here a couple of years ago, and the hotel was a bit tired and old fashioned. It has recently been taken over and totally refurbished. What a difference! You wouldn’t believe it was the same hotel. Very good, clean and comfortable. Very good location near the central market.

Excellent hotel in a great central position. Very helpful at check in. Clean rooms of good size. Car parking just over the road. I would stay again

Very good

Very Premier Inn. Modern and nothing fancy but comfortable and clean. Not sure what gives it 4 star as there is no pool or gym. However, it's in an ideal spot for discovering Alicante and we've booked again for the New Year.

Central cozy hotel value for money

Great location. Super friendly staff. Spacious modern room. Some minor details that could be improved (slippery shower, no toilet brush) but overall super happy. Would stay there again
