Nice hotel in lovely setting. Nice room with great view of the sea. Food for breakfast was terrible. Staff at the beach is not friendly. Lacking the little touches for a true palace.

This property was beyond our expectations. Not only were the staff friendly always, the hotel gave back to its guests. Unusual in my experience. Breakfast and beach lounges included in the room rate. Pop sickles or watermelon passed out to cool you while you sunbathe as well as water. Live music every evening. The town itself totally walkable. Wonderful wonderful.

The hotel was excellent overall but we were disappointed with the availability of English language TV. There was nothing apart from a Nigerian channel in English. Not even CNN or BBC world service. After several complaints I finally got access to YouTube on the final night of our stay.

Overall the staff and services
were impeccable, especially at the reception and the restaurants, as well as the car valet and baggage help when arriving and leaving. The spa including the warm pool was perfect, and beach lounge chairs were very comfortable with their top mattress support. The 3 Baci left in our room on the first day were much appreciated also and introduced us to Il Fornaoi. On my previous trips I have purchased from Balzola but now did all my Baci gifts from Il Fornaio. Our first day though was very disappointing because we were assigned chairs on the beach in the last row behind and the last on the border with another hotel with the white fence very close. I felt so confined and couldn’t even move the lounge chair to the left. That gave us such a sad and desperate experience thinking we have been stuck with these assigned seatings throughout our stay while we can see many other available ones all around. I asked if we may have another seating but was not sure they would be able to do anything. The next day fortunately the lady responsable at the beach was able to provide us with a better one. That put our first day experience really low but were happy a better arrangement was reached. Another note mentioning was that the room was not cleaned properly. Chips crumbs remained on the floor. One thing that truly disgusted me was finding clean bath towels left on the bidet! I would expect much better cleanliness standards from the grand hotel. Thank you

Absolutely beautiful and perfect location! Staff was so nice and spoke good English. Breakfast was delish. Fruit served on beach was a nice touch. I would definitely recommend this hotel and I would stay here again.

The hotel is completely lovely, friendly staff, very nice amenities, great spa, lovely beachfront, very good breakfast. We splurged for 2 nights on a sea side room. Unfortunately, at least for our room, the windows were almost at chest level, so the only way to see the ocean was to be standing at the window or standing in the bathtub. Not sure if the other rooms on different floors are like that but it wasn't worth the extra expense. Other than that little thing, we enjoyed our stay here immensely! We did not eat at the restaurant so I can't comment on the food other than breakfast.

This is a beautiful, modern yet old school hotel with lovely seaside rooms that let you sleep to the sound of waves. We also found this to have one of the best salt water spas that we have visited in Italy - so many types of water jets and a variety of sauna rooms in which to relax. Alassio is a little touristy, but there are some great off the beaten path restaurants. We would definitely return to this hotel.

A walk in shower was requested at the time of booking. Instead we had a shower over the bath, a bath with a high side which it difficult to climb into and even more difficult to climb out. We also asked again at reception for a walk in shower but apparently there was none according to the very condescending receptionist. We are both 71 and have never been refused this service elsewhere.
The area around the shower glass in the bath was covered in black mould and had obviously not been cleaned in months.
When we queried the €30 daily parking charge she was extremely patronising and off hand.

Poor food selection and breakfast service

The Hotel was superb and we were upgraded to a very large suite with a balcony. The main complaint was with the available menus and breakfast. On arriving for breakfast you had a table with a mat and knife and fork per person. No cups, saucers nor condiments were available. On asking for tea with milk it usually arrived after fifteen to twenty minutes- one pot of hot water, one tea bag per person and a jug of milk.How difficult is it to fill a pot with hot water? and cups; saucers and milk could be made available when a table is initially occupied. The Buffet was adequate; but not as good as other five star hotels. The staff did not attend to replenishing dishes when they were depleted. The scrambled egg dish was usually empty and dried out and I watched for twenty minutes one morning until someone summoned a waiter to get it replenished.

We did not have lunch in the Restaurants as we could not find a menu anywhere; other than the Restaurant on the Beach which was small; served exquisite food e.g caviar and even more exquisite prices. We had lunch at nearby restaurants on the beach at a fraction of the price.
The evening meal, other than having lunch on the Beach at the \"de-Luxe\" restaurant appeared to be a Pizza Restaurant, in a smart setting, open to the Public to walk-in with no other food options. We did not see alternative menus anywhere. As my wife is Gluten-free this did not suit us and we again eat out every night at Superb local Restaurants.

I would return.

Service has to be improved. Overall is good.

We stay at this hotel almost each year. And each year services is becoming a bit worse. Students are working at the restaurant, with no idea of what a good service is. Not all of them, but most. Only few waiters are adequate and experienced. Some of reception staff are not polite at all. In the past they all were just excellent, but now people change and new people are not so pleasant and welcoming. There are still not place to dry your towel or a swimsuit in the room, no even a single hook. However there are still staff who are nice and it's a pleasure to talk to them. Overall experience is good, but the hotel management should pay better attention to training and education. Location is still good, there is a sea and a private beach just outside the door. This is the best place to stay in Alassio, unfortunately there are no other hotels of such a good location and amenities.

Beautiful beach hotel

Our family enjoyed four nights at the exquisite Grand Hotel Alassio. The quality and comfort provided by the hotel, rooms, beach, food, and staff exceeded all of our expectations. We were thankful we could communicate in English - especially as we did not come across other English speaking guests in the hotel or perhaps in all of Alassio! Alassio is a gem of a vacation location and we are so happy we stayed at this hotel.

Five star look One star service

We stayed three nights in this hotel. The room was clean and the SPA of the hotel is great.

However the service was way below expectation. We stayed in the property in November, so the number of guests was probably less then the number of staff, unfortunately that did not stop the restaurant personnel to disappear all the time.

During breakfast you either had to stand up and walk around to find someone to get a coffee, or squeeze everything into one order because the guy never came back to ask if you need anything else. Also the variety of the food was pretty limited and you have to explicitly ask them refill the empty trays.

For the half board dinner (tried once and cancelled afterwards) you can choose from the menu of the hotel restaurant. The starters are ok (but probably all from frozen ingredients), for the main, one meal was overcooked the other was not cooked and most annoyingly you have to wait 5+ minutes for a waiter to turn up and you can send back your food.

In summary, this hotel is extremely overpriced for what they offer and you probably get the same service in a B&B and the fact that they have fancy looking rooms and a good SPA just does not offset that.

Could be so much better

The location is the best in Alassio- right on a private beach and near shops and restaurants. The decor is simple but charming however the rooms are small . The main problem is the service which, with few exception, we found lacklustre bordering on unhelpful. The noise from the kids club ( loud music and shouting) right beside the bar ( with a performing guitarist) is a cacophany in the evening . Room service was also a problem and the breakfast was poor eg juice from concentrate and lack of variety. We booked 5 stars and felt we received closer to 3 star .

Smart hotel, excellent beachside location

It is well worth visiting this hotel. Very comfortable rooms, lovely outdoor terrace. It is right on the beach. The thalassotherapy spa is very comfortable and enjoyable, although can be very busy. The room was a hill view room, good size, simple but stylish furnishings.
On the negative side:
1) information given by the reception regarding train times to Ventimiglia and Nice was incorrect. I found information re train times myself but was told adamantly my information was outdated and wrong and theirs was correct. We had to ask for ourselves at Alassio station and found out all our own train intimation WAS correct.
2) information from spa staff and reception staff was contradictory. We were told by reception at check in we could change in the spa or come down from room ready changed. The first time we changed in the spa with lockers no problem. The second time we were told as hotel guests we must change in our room and could not have a locker and were sent back to our room from the spa - this is not how we expect to be treated in a 5 star hotel. ALL STAFF SHOULD BE AWARE OF WHAT THE POLICY IS TO SAVE CONFUSION/EMBARRASSMENT.
3) half way through our stay there were no bananas at breakfast, I asked for one and after waiting for sometime was presented with the last banana in the hotel! The same occurred with apples on our last morning, again not what you expect from a 5 star hotel.
In short well worth a visit, 5 star facilities with 4 star service.

The location and access to the beach are the reasons why we chose this hotel. In this respect it did not disappoint. It doesn't really feel like 5 stars however. The staff was very friendly but a little disorganized. There was sand on the floor in our room. Over all a good experience.

Great location just near the sea. Private beach, which is good. Room is just good, nothing special. Sometimes not very clean, rather small - like in Italy. Wi-Fi is a problem. It's free, but it does not work almost - loses connection every minute - impossible to do any work. Overall hotel is good. No better place to stay here in Alassio.

5 star hotel lacking 5 star service

First, I would like to thank Julia and another gentleman who asked us about our experience and after that things did start to improve. Our experience is as follows:
- First row benches at the beach are sold out to people who are not hotel guests.
- Hotel guests are assigned certain benches, but nobody tells you this until an angry beach manager arrives and asks you to move to where you belong.
- Beach manager is hard to find, so you have to chase a life guard to get towels, who shows how unhappy he is to do this job
- Beach staff are very happy about themselves, chatty to kids club nannies and seem to be annoyed by guests
- We haven't seen anyone from a bar at the beach for 6 days. Only at our last day we have received a menu and found out that actually it is possible to get drinks and food at the beach.
- A'la cart restaurant serves the same menu for lunch and dinner every day.
- I fell sick after trying seafood at hotel restaurant
- They serve vegetables in big plates for lunch and one day the corn was rotten, i.e. nobody actually put new corn to the plate every day, they just served what has been left from the previous ones
- Only at the last day of our week stay floors in our room were actually cleaned and ashtray on the balcony emptied.
- You can hear your neighbours and lower floor doors being shut.
- The hotel has been recently renovated, but lack of proper cleaning and looking after leaves all the tubs and bathroom accessories in a rather poor state
- etc.

Not a 5 star and no sign to it.

1) It's not a five star.
2) We spent ages trying to find it because they have no sign on the main road through the town.
3) They want to charge you €25 for parking! We found free parking on street and there are other car parks and on-street pay parking available cheaper nearby - though it does take some patience to find it.
4) Watch out for the local restaurants, many of which serve almost exactly the same thing and may be owned by the same firm. We found quality poor and prices high. There's a good restaurant on the main road away from the hotel which serves pasta and seemed better value.

Nous avons passé un week-end en couple dans cette hôtel au bord de l’eau. Le personnel est dévoué, attentif et souriant. Le petit déjeuner est très agréable. Hors saison, le SPA avec son sauna et hamac est idéal. C’est un endroit idéal pour passer un moment hors du temps.

L'hôtel est situé au centre-ville. Il est bien équipé. Le personnel est aux petits soins . La vue sur mer est incroyable. Dommage que le temps était pas très beau nous n'avons pas pu profité de la plage. Le spa est formidable, peut-être quelques rénovations a faire dans le bain. Notre week-end était très bien. Hotel d'exception. Merci également pour lr gâteau d'anniversaire pour mon mari dans la chambre à notre arrivé.

It is a beautiful hotel with perfect service! The restaurant quality is also very good including live music in the evening. The breakfast could be a bit better. The cake was very dry, French toast was not included and needed to be paid additionally (€14). For such a hotel my expectation is that French toast is included in the breakfast. The beach area is very beautiful and the beach beds are very comfortable.

Super weekend.

J'ai récemment séjourné au Grand Hôtel Alassio, et je suis absolument ravi de mon expérience. Dès notre arrivée, nous avons été accueillis avec une courtoisie exceptionnelles. Le personnel, toujours souriant et disponible, a fait preuve d’un professionnalisme irréprochable tout au long de notre séjour.

Les installations de l'hôtel sont tout simplement magnifiques. Le spa en particulier.

De plus l'hôtel a pris en charge le plein de mon véhicule électrique.

Et de mon téléphone, que j'avais égaré.

En résumé, notre séjour au Grand Hôtel Alassio a dépassé toutes nos attentes.

Un super séjour dans ce magnifique hôtel où tout est bien pensé pour rendre la vie des clients très agréable.
Nous avons été surclassés en chambre vue mer, ça a été une excellente surprise.
Propreté impeccable, services au top, gentillesse du personnel...
Hôtel super bien situé, proximité immédiate des commerces et restaurants.
Une mention particulière pour le spa qui est un des meilleurs que nous avons connu.

The Grand Hotel Alassio Resort & Spa is a wonderful, classic hotel which lived up to its name. Built in 1897, it is completely modernized. The lobby is open directly with two waterfront restaurants, a waterfront bar, and a private beach. We had a beautiful room with an elegant bathroom. It was extremely clean. Breakfast was served daily in a stunning solarium which had tables both inside and on the beach. The Spa is a tremendous feature for this hotel which is located directly on the Mediterranean Sea. Mr. Alex Cancel, the Director of Guest Relations did a fantastic job - he personally made sure that we enjoyed all of amenities of the hotel. We found all of the employees to be extremely friendly and helpful. We would certainly stay at the Grand Hotel Alassio in the future and hope to return to the Italian Riviera..

Bon accueil… mais nuit blanche car couché tard et réveillé très tôt par le soleil puisqu’il n’y avait pas de rideaux occultants..posés le lendemain…pas de PQ à l’arrivée..on connaît d’autres R étoiles et celui là est en dessous par exemple de Séville.. Marrakech…Abu DHABI etc

Vue magnifique depuis la terrasse de la chambre donnant sur la mer.
Par contre le restaurant détenait une petite carte et que le service n’était pas avant 20h00. Le personnel était un peu absent pour un 5 étoiles.

Fantastisk hotel med den dejligste Beach club. Super sandstrand og det smukkeste vand. Venligt og hjælpsomt personale. Super restaurant - Bistroen var super god og til virkelig rimelige priser. Kommer tilbage.

Innan vi reste så skickade jag mail till hotellet och frågade om parkering, tyvärr fick jag inget svar, så jag löste det själv på plats. Att man hittar cigarettfimpar i blommorna på balkongen är lite märkligt på ett hotell som detta. Personalen super bra, restaurangen bra, frukost mycket bra. Staden mycket trevlig.

Alles super. Das Family Zimmer für drei Personen hatte eine gute Größe aber ein sehr kleines Bad und ging nach hinten raus. Nächstes Mal würde ich ein Zimmer mit Blick bevorzugen.

Séjour très agréable

Personnel à l’écoute et chaleureux.
Emplacement parfait avec la plage privée.
SPA très agréable et l’accès libre est top. Toutefois il est bruyant avec les enfants (l’accès leur ait souvent interdit dans d’autres SPA) qui crient et sautent, dommage.
La salle de sport est très limitée.
Petit déjeuner copieux et bon ; il manque des fruits frais et attention aux dates des yaourts qui étaient dépassées...
Bonne prise en compte des contraintes COVID.

Modernes Hotel mit eigenem Sand Strand.

Das Hotel wurde toll renoviert. Alles ist nun sehr Modern eingerichtet. Der Service ist ausgezeichnet. Sehr Empfehlens wert. Im Restaurant haben wir sehr gut gegessen zu fairen Preisen.

Location, breakfast and beach amenities are very good, in line with the price and ranking of the hotel. I find that the price/quality ratio gets a hit only for the size of the rooms: considering average prices for Alassio, rooms are on the smaller side.

Hotel a moitie vide ,j 'avais réservé une chambre vue mer, on m' attribue une chambre avec les lavabos implantes dans la chambre...une grande première,même dans ma jeunesse dans les 1 etoile, la salle d'eau était toujours séparée. Ma femme râle ,je dédramatise. Mais , cerise sur le gâteau, durant la nuit, je découvre que l interrupteur des toilettes allumait en même tant l l'éclairage du lavabo, donc chambre illuminée, quant on z plus de 70 ans et une prostate paresseuse... je vous dit pas la nuit de mon épouse..... Bien sur le lendemain je me suis fait changer de chambre mais quand même.....
Hotel a moitié vide, plein de chambres vue mer
disponibles , je suis un client régulier , quatre ou cinq sejour antérieurs.
Le comportement du service de réservation reste encore pour moi un mystere ????
