I had a very disappointing stay at Hotel Europa in Rapallo. The hotel is in terrible condition and clearly has not been properly maintained for many years. The only part that looks halfway decent is the lobby – everything else feels run-down and neglected.

The rooms are dirty and damaged, with worn-out furniture and unpleasant odors. The bathrooms have mold and show serious signs of decay. It’s obvious that nothing has been renovated in a long time.

To make matters worse, the receptionist was unfriendly and unhelpful, which really set a negative tone for the stay. Instead of a welcoming attitude, I felt dismissed and ignored.

Noise is also a major problem – it’s very loud at night, making it difficult to rest.

Overall, this hotel is in tragic technical and hygienic condition. I cannot recommend it to anyone, and I strongly suggest looking for alternative accommodation in Rapallo.

After a mix up with my original booking this hotel welcomed me very late at night and I stayed for three days they turned a very stressful situation into a blessing. The desk staff and breakfast staff were beyond excellent !! Room was clean and comfy with an authentic charm and location was awesome !! Walk to everything including the train on my departure and the price was very reasonable for the quality !! Thank you 🇨🇦

Lovely stay

Modern and clean, friendly staff and lovely rooms with lots of room. Building is really classic seaside Italian, dusty pink with green shutters and palm trees. Beautiful. the only problem we had was we arrived late in the afternoon and there was no parking on the first day left, but we got one the next day.

Modern spa hotel in histocal building

A lovely modern hotel in an old building close to the sea front bar and restaurants, yet just a few minutes walk from the train station. We did not visit the spa, though we were told we could enter once free on our three day visit. Nice breakfast with a good choice of continental breakfast items. Sadly our room overlooked a small inner courtyard, but other than that, the facilities were good and all the staff were staff friendly. There was a safe & fridge in the room.

The property was fine and very clean, the staff was very attentive. Location and parking were superb but the bed was horrible, it was two single beds pulled together to make one queen size bed. It came apart during the night almost causing me to fall to the floor.

We stayed there while in town for a friend’s wedding. The location is very central. The staff was very helpful. My only complaint is the hairdryer. It’s more of a hose attached to a wall fixture.

Very well located hotel. Underground secure parking available at €19 per day. Good breakfast choice. Very clean rooms, quiet and very good aircon. Lovely king size bed. Staff really friendly. no swimming pool other than the small indoor plunge pool in the spa which is FOC but needs to be booked in advance. No good beaches in this area of coastline. They are pebbly and there are very few. You will need to pay the €15 per day to get a sun bed and beach area if you are a sunworshipper.

The property and room was “fine”, definitely no frills. The staff was pleasant accept for the head manager who was incredibly rude during our couple interactions and even when passing one another in the hallway of the lobby. The main issue came when we gave them a bag of laundry, maybe a quarter of a machine load. It took 3 days to get back and when we did it was €88. The staff working admitted it was insane. They said they talk to the manager, the rude one. When I got back to the desk the manager wouldn’t discuss it with me, so I paid. Those same items at the four season Hawaii would have been $40. Really bad way to say goodbye to an otherwise really nice trip.

Excellent location over the road from beach.5 minute walk to the railway station .The hotel restaurant food and service was very good .The staff in the hotel were friendly and very helpful .The only thing missing from the hotel is a sun terrace where you can sunbathe but the beach is literally across the road .The hotel spa is small but a very nice place to spend an hour relaxing .

This is a really nice hotel, near to the sea and lots of restaurants. Our only problem was a wedding taking place in the hotel that evening so being on the first floor, we had a lot of noise until fairly late in the evening.

Short 2 night stay. Rooms quite basic and a bit noisy at night. AC worked fine, contrary to other reviewers experience reported here. Car parking limited and €19 per night. Good location in the centre of town close to the beach and lots of restaurants. Easy drive or nice ferry trip to Portofino too.

Breakfast experience mixed. First morning had a great waiter who served fresh juice and eggs from the kitchen with no problem. Next day, a younger waiter insisted on a €4 charge per small glass of fresh juice and wanted to charge for anything hot, scrambled eggs or omelette. Which was nonsense. He relented only after I argued with him but it ruined the breakfast for us really. Totally unnecessary as the manager later told me that it IS included. Nobhead.

many positives one HUGE minus

I will begin with the positives on this hotel - there are many. 1. Location - exactly where you want to be in Rapallo, steps from the water, the beach, the Lungomare, so close to the train station, the ferries in the harbor, easy walking distance to the cable car up to Montallegro and lots of restaurants and stores. No need for a car when staying here. 2. Room - comfortable beds, clean, neat and organized. 3. Breakfast - ample, delicious, and free 4. No hidden costs/fees, etc.

Negative - the AC (as of this writing in June 2016) was broken. If you are planning to stay in the near future you should probably check with them. I stayed 6 nights, we had half a night of air conditioning (more on the below). The remaining 5 and a half were truly miserable in the summer heat. I suppose what is most irritating is that this was a long term problem that the hotel 1) did not inform me ahead of time so that we could make other arrangements 2) did not inform me about when checking in, they made no mention of it, instead they let a sign in the elevator do their talking for them 3) offered no assistance such as a fan 4) offered no discount or any conciliatory offer. 5) with the windows having to be open all night, the loudness of the train whizzing by, the local teens who hang out all night on the bridge over the train tracks, the traffic and the constant ringing of the churchbell next door was a problem - bring earplugs.

This great hotel was very welcoming. The breakfast is included in the price which is a great deal - most hotels have expensive breakfasts in the morning. We also ate dinner here - it was delicious! They fit us in without a reservation; however, it was packed! Definitely a great place to go. I really enjoyed staying here. The room was big enough to feel like we finally had some space (compared with the other European hotel standards).

The hotel is situated very well at the heart of the city very close to the harbor. Hotel is renovated but nothing exceptional. You have to pay 20 euros to part your car for the night in the garage because public parking is very difficult to find. I thought that 20 euros was a little much since the car was not even on a parking space and I had to maneuver very hard to get it out. Breakfast was of good quality even though we had to beg to get coffee... But than again this is Italy and service isn't their strongpoint. In short it's ok for a few nights but nothing amazing to really look forward to.

Enjoying the spa after a busy day of touring Rapallo & daytrips to Portofino & Cinque Terra was wonderful! (I felt the use of robes & slippers should be complimentary) Although breakfast was generous, it lacked variety. Reception staff are very helpful & friendly.

Noisy hotel, small and tired rooms

Rooms are small, decor is old and tired. After checking in we go to the room, bit disappointed by size and condition given that the common area of the hotels are very nice. Then we realised air conditioning is not working. Reception says it is down in the whole hotel and an engineer is working on it. We go out for dinner and when we come back our room is still uncomfortably hot. We chose to open the window and hope for the best, when we realise another of the hotel flaws: it's right next to the railways! That makes a very noisy, hot and mosquito infested night… all for the price of a 4 stars hotel. Avoid!

Beautifully Renovated for Return Stay

I was pleasantly surprised to see that Hotel Europa has been totally renovated in a chic modern decor since my stay 4 years ago. Even though it was the same off season late March dates, the Hotel Europa Design Spa 1877 was now energized with lots of people in the hotel lobby, bar and dining room. The staff was friendly and attentive and the it still has the great location across from the sea and landmark castle. It is an excellent base location for visiting both Portifino to the north and Cinque Terre to the south. Great little restaurant Elite across the street was also worth a return visit.

Our room on the fourth floor was tired and old fashiones, though clean. Our friends' room on the first floor was modern and nice. The front desk refused to acknowledge that there was any difference between them, even though the decor was clearly from the 90's on the 4th floor. They also claimed to be full when they clearly weren't. All rather bizarre. The bar area and reception were pretty good, though the staff couldn't be desribed as at all friendly. I'd recommend for a short dtay as long as it was on the first floor, but I wouldn't want to base a proper holiday there. All a bit 1998 for my taste.

Good location but not overly impressed

We recently stayed at Hotel Europa and the location is great! My husband and I were disappointed with the Internet connection (in your room it is non-existent), our room carpet was sticky (not sure if it is from the cleaning agent used or not) and we tried to eat at the hotel restaurant for my husband's birthday and were turned away because they said we didn't have a reservation. Overall, it was an okay hotel but definitely not our favourite during our 16 days travelling the Italian Riviera.

position in Rapallo perfect for all amenities. Refurbished public areas very classy and cool. with pleasing contemporary feel. Only half bedrooms been refurbed so our 4th floor (and 3rd floor) room was old fashioned, dated and in real need of a makeover. Torn dirty wallpaper is poor and such a contrast with the high class furnishings elsewhere in the hotel. My advice is to ask for a 1st/2nd floor room. Service of all staff is excellent and they try very hard. So Europa, just close these floors, do an upgrade and you will have a fab hotel to be proud of!

Clean, well located hotel with good restaurant

we used this hotel as a convenient base to explore the coastal region from Cinqua Terre to Genoa by train. Hotel is super clean. Staff friendly and helpful. Breakfast is adequate, same menu all three mornings. Rooms specious and looks like they have been recently renovated. The pillows felt a little limp and the mattress was a little soft for a heavy person like me. But room service provided us additional pillows upon request. We had a good dinner at the restaurant one evening. I will recommend this hotel to others.

Europa in Rapollo is a perfect location

The Europa Hotel Design Spa is in a great location not only in Rapollo but on the coast as well. The common areas of the hotel is nicely modernized even though the rooms need a bit of updating, they are clean and comfortable. But what makes this hotel stand out is it's staff who bend over backwards to make your stay pleasant and help with any requests you may have. The city of Rapollo is located at the beginning of the route to Portofino, one of the most beautiful drives you will ever see.

Grand, stylish, upmarket hotel with history: great position.

Lovely hotel. No steps to room on the fourth floor! Room was spotless. Linen was monogrammed and bed beautifully made. Staff friendly and had excellent meal in the restaurant one night with entertaining and obliging waiter. Close to ferry to Positano (to which the hotel sold tickets at no extra cost) and trains to Cinque Terre. A stones throw to the Promenade on the seashore. Staff helped with the parking of the car just outside of the hotel for all four days and nights.

rapallo was the right town to stay on the portofino coast and we were well pleased with this hotel .very close to the sea front and long promenade . excellent decorations spotlessly clean and good breakfast .friendly staff ... did hire a car and as hotel had parking assuming it would be free .. be warned it isn't ..you are charged if you use their garage

Joli hôtel très bien placé en centre ville (pas de ZTL) et plutôt calme. Possibilité l’été de déjeuner dehors, cadre sympathique. A 5mn à pied de la gare de train.
Par contre matelas inconfortable, on sent tous les mouvements de l’autre personne…Concernant le parking (25€ par jour (grandes places)) en sous sol, impossible de réserver. Ainsi, premiers arrivés, premiers servis…et le nombre de places est limité. Vous devrez vous garer dans la rue (attention pas sur les places jaunes réservées aux résidents) ou dans un parking ouvert avec parcmètre. Pour trouver un parking avec barrière, il vous faudra aller vers la gare, mais prix le week-end très élevé. Ce fut dommage que la personne à l’accueil ne nous ai apporté aucune aide…il a fallut poser des questions pour trouver quoi faire de notre voiture après 8h de route un samedi soir où la ville était bondée…

pet frinedly. Costo per il cagnolino di piccola taglia € 13.00 a notte. Camera silenziosa - mancanza ciabatte di cortesia in camera e bollitore: visto il costo, sarebbe stato opportuno prevedere queste comodità. Colazione buona. Comodità per la zona centrale e la passeggiata a mare. Parcheggio dell'hotel comodo, dal prezzo adeguato (19 euro a notte)- Gentilezza del personale e pulizia della camera e delle parti comuni. Letto comodo.
