We arrived here just before Storm Amy hit!!!

A nice easy uphill walk from the railway station.

We were a little early for check in and sat in the lounge/bar area to wait as the weather was rather inclement!!

Our room, which was on the second floor, overlooked the lovely harbour. It was nice and clean with fresh towels supplied. There were tea and coffee supplies in the room.
The shops were a short walking distance away.

When Storm Amy struck the whole area lost power…the staff were brilliant supplying us with battery powered lanterns.
A dish of delicious venison stew was available for an evening meal as the kitchen was affected by the power cut. Other guests were able to order sandwiches or salads.
The following morning there was still no power and a complimentary cold breakfast was provided. Hot water for coffee and teas were heated on the lounge wood burner and were available all day. The chef managed to make a wholesome soup and selection of sandwiches for lunch. In the evening a two course meal was also available….the staff were absolutely fantastic throughout this experience…cannot speak more highly of the service we received.

When we arrived, our 'standard' room didn't have any lighting in the bathroom. We notified front desk and the next morning they 'upgraded' our room to deluxe. If I had known the difference I would have upgraded to start with. All in all the staff was amazing!

We stayed in Scotland for 8 days and this property won \"worst hotel\" award for the week. It had the feel of a Motel 6 with super outdated furnishings and worn out carpet. The towels were dirty looking and worn out. The shower leaked when you used it and it was a room you wanted to keep you bare feet off of the carpet. The location was beautiful but I would not stay here again and would not encourage others to either. This property is in massive need of renovation and it was WAY TOO expensive for the money. We stayed in Double Tree Hotels for a 3rd of the money and got a way better value. Thumbs down on this one!

We really enjoyed the aesthetics of our room and the incredible view, as well as the proximity to shops and restaurants in town. We didn’t get the most restful sleep, though - the bed coils were noticeable (but supportive) and the walls are relatively thin so any noise from the halls or neighboring rooms was audible. The staff was attentive, but there was a shift in tone when we opted to get dinner and breakfast elsewhere (not at the hotel). We still had a nice stay and would recommend it to others.

Overall was good, the bed needed to be replaced as it was older, some cleaning issues but it’s an older hotel that was a bit dated, we didn’t really take points off for this as we expected it.

That said, Mallaig itself is wonderful, we loved it - the small fishing town made us want to move there, walkable and quaint - it reminded us of a place we lived on the west coast of Canada.

The food… wow. The restaurant right next to the hotel (also a pub and inn) was lively, we think the cook was drunk that day due to an engagement they were celebrating and locals in the bar sang a song that must have been in Gaelic as we understand it, but was awesome to be part of. Back to the cook, our food took a bit longer to come out that planned and we were a bit worried at first - until it came out. I had the seafood chowder and wife had Cullin Skink - the presentation and flavour of the chowder was amazing, all I can figure as to how it took longer is they went out to grab fresh mussels and scallops when we ordered as it was the best I have ever had (and we live on the west coast), and the Cullin Skink was thick chowdery and flavorful, all we could think of for days was this meal - we tried every pubs Cullin skink and were disappointed as none came close…

Mallaig, we will definitely be back - the highlight of our Scotland trip just happened to be the ferry port town we stayed the night before we went to Isle of Skye, such a gem.

Desperate Need of a Deep Clean and Renovation

The outdoor terrace is a wonderful place for to enjoy the sunset and there were musicians playing traditional music ~ just lovely.
The hotel itself, however, is in desperate need of a deep clean and full renovation. The carpets are filthy, the walls are filthy, and despite the temperatures being well above 20°C the heaters in the hallway were blasting out heat. The hotel was so incredibly stuffy and smells were emanating from its very carpets and walls, it was terrible - one floor stunk strongly of of onions, another floor of a combination of wet dog and dirty laundry. My sinuses were immediately stuffed up because of the dust.

The person at the front desk was kind enough to open my room window to air it out. However, in the evening, it seemed like the staff had their friends over visiting and they were running about and socializing with them.

Nice hotel but 4pm check-in is later than I’m used to and not really justifiable in my view. Shower was hopeless. Very little pressure and the only effective way to control temperature was to move it up and down the bar it was attached to. The temperature control itself did nothing.

We had a one night stay en route to Eigg. We were amazed at how good our stay was it was.fantastic value. Extremely comfortable bed with all facilities clean and good quality, great shower, unsurpassable views from our bedroom windows! Bar and restaurant service and food were excellent, although it was an incredibly busy night in the restaurant, the staff were so hard working and attentive. Thank you.

A comfortable hotel with very friendly staff. However, it did not come up to the standard expected from the price - no lift, small room, no shower gel or shampoo, and a bath mat the size of a flannel. For this price, the highest by far I have paid for 4 star hotels throughout this trip to Scotland, I expected a lot better. I would give it a 5 star review at about two thirds of the price.

This hotel was so lovely. I absolutely loved my stay. The hotel has some historic charm, which I loved. Even though it doesn't have an elevator, I made it through and would love to stay here again. The check-in process was very simple. The view from my window was gorgeous and worth every cent. My room was small, but had everything I needed. I also loved the terrace restaurant they have. It had an amazing view and the waitstaff was very kind. Mallaig is so peaceful and the hotel just added to it.

Overall we had a nice 1- night stay at this hotel. The room was clean, the staff was friendly and the food in the restaurant at dinner was delicious. The hotel itself is a bit dated at first look, but that doesn't bother me as long as the rooms are clean. The only real downside for us was that there was no elevator, but that's manageable. The shower in our room was a bit wonky, as it went hot, cold, hot, cold without turning the nob, but we laughed it off. It was a shower experience. Haha

The situation is excellent - great views over the sea. The restaurant and terrace share the same outlook. We booked a ‘cosy double’ room, aware it would be small but the sloping ceilings made moving around a challenge without bumping your head. Could these rooms be cheaper with an explanation that the cost reflects the space issues?Both receptionists were exceptionally helpful. Other staff also nice. All were fairly young and, at least in the restaurant, would have benefitted from some direction/ oversight by more experienced staff. The food experience was a bit mixed. Fish a bit overcooked, Caesar salad overwhelmed a bit by lots of fresh tarragon and rosemary, but chicken nicely cooked. Portions were very generous, a bit too much for some things. The chips were great but one bowl is more than enough for two people. We ate less than half of ours and every table was the same, causing so much waste. We waited a long time after finishing our main course without anyone coming back to clear the table or offer dessert menus. When we caught the attention of one of the staff, they promptly brought us the bill, without the chance to order dessert. Wine was a bit do it yourself - if bottle was a screw top, diners were left to open it themselves. If not, it was opened, put back in the cooler without being poured or a taste offered. Everything was clean and comfortable. Great to have bins for recyclables in the room. Overall good, but could be better with some attention to detail.

We loved our stay in our double room with exceptional views over the water. We could have looked out that window for hours, very peaceful! The staff at the hotel were friendly and helpful and our evening meal very good. We also enjoyed having a drink in the bar area and on the terrace. It was a huge advantage for us that all parts of the hotel were dog friendly and easy parking right outside. The only downside for us was no lift.

It's a lovely hotel and very close to the ferry terminal where we took the ferry to the Isle of Skye. We're lucky to get an ocean-view room which was spectacular. You can also walk to stores and restaurants easily. The only issue that I had was the automatic check-in and check-out process. We arrived around 9:30pm, and no one was at the reception. It felt a bit awkward.

Adequate stopping point before a ferry

The hotel felt very empty, run by a receptionist seemingly on her own. We’d been warned that the restaurant was closed that night but were able to get good food at the inn next door. The room was billed as being “cosy” and it certainly was that, but also up a lot of stairs. Main faults were a poor mattress and a lacklustre shower with low flow and variable water temperature. Breakfast at £16 per person is presumably priced to discourage participation. We got something better value on the ferry.
