We booked a longtime in advance & booked 4 rooms at peak rates but still had the rooms at the very back of the hotel so was a long walk to reception & lots of stairs.
The hotel rooms are very dated, the bathrooms were dirty, lighting was bad, some lights not working or flickering, aircon was musty. Was pretty disappointed overall & would not stay here again.

We had such a great stay at the champlung sari hotel! We came with a large family group and had 4 rooms. The hotel itself is nothing fancy, but it's kept spotlessly clean and the rooms are very spacious, aircon is cool and fridges are cold. The breakfast buffet and restaurant food is great with very reasonable pricing also. The only disclaimer I would put here is that you have to be ok with the monkeys wandering freely and occasionally causing mischief i.e stealing your bag of chips haha. We personally loved the monkeys antics and it provided amusement for the kids. The stand out thing about this hotel though is all of the staff and the friendliness and hospitality they have for the guests. Really lovely people with a family vibe. We will 100% return!

The worst experience ever…we been in this place but stayed in Villa but this time we booked room and it’s terrible…very old room, no towels for shower, very old bad and small, not hot water in the shower no pressure in the shower, they do renovation and the workers are starting with building work at 7:30am…extremely noisy….in overall old resort with old rooms, only villas are good

The only reason why I chose this hotel was because of its proximity to monkey forest as my husband was participating in a race there very early. We just stayed with our family for a night (Thanks God) and to be fair I must say we chose the cheapest fare option as it was only for a night. However, this place urgently needs a renovation everything about it is very sad. From the staff worn out shirts, to the bad maintained bathrooms. The rooms with different shades of paint trying to cover mold, and many other things that need improvement. If you are on a tight budget, and need a place to spend the night and really need to be close to monkey forest then go for it and maybe try a room with higher price range. Otherwise I would not recommend this place at all. The staff was nice and try their best, we got to sleep but the standard of quality of this place is very low. It urgently needs improvements and renovations.

Total chilled vibe around the pools, with service 2nd to non. Loved the fact the Monkeys visit in an afternoon and cause a little bit of entertainment by doing things like throwing the roof tiles onto the floor or just having a good nosey at what people are doing.

Was okay. Issue water would cut off and you would have to wait for 20 mins +. They also only give one towel per person in the room which i dont think is great as you will sweat alot and have showers and you will only have the one towel for the face and body. But staff are really nice and friendly.

Dewan was our driver and guide throughout our stay. He was knowledgeable about the history of Bali in general and Ubud. Courteous. Champlung resort has a diamond with him as an employee. He had excellent recommendations about where to eat and visit. He was the icing on the cake. Front desk was excellent. If anything was needed they were on it. Your minutes from the monkey forest so had plenty on site. Employees were awesome to make sure monkeys were under control. If looking for original Balinese experience. This is the place to go. 1 minute walk to a comparable US 7-11 store. My wife has allergies to seafood and the chef cooked a special breakfast for her. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. just follow Dewans advice.

Our internet didn’t work in the first room but the staff were very friendly and moved us then we had no problems. The breakfast buffet was $70,000 and lots of good food and coffee, very clean amenities and the staff were very helpful. They even have a guy who chases monkeys away so you can sit by the pool in peace!

You get what you pay for.
Pictures of the bedroom space are accurate
Standard room bathrooms are poorly represented in the photos (the villas are the newer and nicer spaces - the hotel rooms less so)
All in all wish we had picked somewhere nicer

- the bedroom is nice
- spacious, tile floors, sturdy wooden furniture, mosquito net around bed
- good price for a hotel room ($45 AUD/night)
- bidet hose with toilet
- friendly staff
- beautiful pool
- bath is nice once full, good depth, water heats quickly

Cons
- mould covered shower floor and stained grout (not only gross, but slippery)
- water pressure is usually poor in Bali, but the shower had barely any pressure
- shower takes minutes to heat up
- broken ceramic and cracks in bath
- walls are not soundproofed - screaming children are not what I wanted to hear at 9:30 - 10:30pm multiple nights PLUS 5:30am the following morning
- no safe
- lumpy pillows

Neutrals
- monkeys can be sparse, but can also be everywhere (we liked this, but your milage may vary - they WILL steal from you if you leave anything on the balcony or go out near them with food)
- mattress is firm
- lots of stairs (fine for us, tricky if less active or not able bodied)
- key locked doors - can be sticky and takes two clicks to lock (not one like we thought initially)
- few power points (we expect this everywhere and bring power boards)

While hidden up an alley way - this property is one to really look into.
We stayed in a Villa. It was private, spacious, and always kept clean.
It seems this property has and is going through some work or has just finished some upgrades.

A lot of people worry about the Monkeys and the closeness to the Monkey forest. Yes, there are monkeys. Yes they will come to your balcony and villa and pinch stuff that you leave outside.

This is not a property to stay at if you can't walk steps or steep paths (mind you Ubud area is steep overall).

I would stay here again - but monkey poo in the pool at the villa did get frustrating...

The staff safety walk you to your rooms which is nice and the staff in general was good.

The buffet breakfast was lacking.

It's a beautiful area and very relaxing. The monkeys are amazing to watch (just guard your belongings!). The room was quite large and had a large balcony. Housekeeping were very pleasant and helpful.

I do think the cleaning itself (especially bathrooms) could be turned up a few notches. It wasn't what I would call clean. The pool should be open till 10pm, not 7pm. It's beautiful at night and an evening swim to cool down from the day would be amazing.

It was listed that the property had 2 restaurants and a bar. While in a way this is true, they weren't open as suggested. The one restaurant was only open in the morning for the buffet. The other restaurant was open till 10pm. The bar they were talking about wasn't open at all, except for one cooking class that we saw.

Other than the few small suggestions, I would recommend if you're looking for something that is fairly cheap but still decent to stay in.

The hotel does match the pictures, it is just very, very old. Signs of wear everywhere, electrical sockets are lose and dodgy.
There are no safes in the rooms, only by reception.
When I arrived, the shower hose in my bathroom was lacking the metal casing, so as soon as I turned the water up, it broke loose and sprayed the whole room. They repaired it within minutes of reporting though, which was close to midnight.
I was given 2 bath towels (it was a double room) no face towels, no hand towels, and the bath mat only appeared on day 3 of my stay.

The hotel is very well located, it isn’t right in the center but everything is within walking distance. It is next to the Monkey Forest so you will see some monkeys from time to time visiting the hotel. The pool has two nice pools which are cleaned, I think they should allow people to swim until 10pm because 8pm seems quite early and there aren’t rooms that close from the pool.

I got an upgrade to a Deluxe room, the room is big and comfortable, however, the bathrooms would benefit from some deep cleaning with bleach and scrubbing, they are quite yellow and sometimes smell weird. The rooms need a bit more care and a hand of paint.

The breakfast is quite nice, I saw some people complaining about the lack of option, but it seems like they have improved because they had an extension to make eggs and omelets, I would say that they have a fair amount of options for you to choose.

Loved this Hotel!! It's right beside the Sacred Monket Forest and there were heaps of Monkeys everywhere! I could have sat by the pool all day just watching them! Only downside was no TV in the room and wifi was pretty bad. Other than that it was an awesome location central to everything, the pools and grounds were beautiful, staff were lovely, rooms were clean and a great price too. As long as you're not a recluse and want to stay in your room all the time it's a great choice.

Liked the fact that it was close to shops and restaurants also close to monkeys. Monkeys would keep us entertained on our balconies and on the roof. Breakfast was great and staff were friendly.
One thing the hotel could improve on is making sure the floors in the rooms and balconies were mopped each day as monkeys caused mess on balconies rails ect. Also bath needed a good scrub as looked like it hadn't been done for ages.

We have stayed here previously and decided to stay again. We like the proximity to the Monkey Forest and the 'entertainment' that the monkeys provide in the hotel grounds - uninvited of course! We also love the fact that there are two big swimming pools here, and they are never crowded. The smaller pool is much deeper, but both provide the opportunity for good swims. The staff here are very helpful and polite, and quick to fix any issue. The buffet breakfast is very good, with lots of choices and of course lovely fresh cooked pancakes, and eggs any style cooked for you. The hotel is just far enough off the road to block street noise, and the garden areas give a feeling of tranquility from the busy Ubud township. Lots of good restaurants nearby on Monkey Forest Rd and Hanoman St, eg: Bali Cafe for Balinese and SOMA for vegan. Highly recommend staying at Champlung Sari!

2 pools with poolside beverage service, 2 on-site dining locations, a very lovely spa, kind staff, nice rooms, much security and feels safe, yet VERY centralized convenient walking location to/from most everything you need while staying in the city (trekking/tours etc., excluded as this would require a vehicle.) This was my second stay here and I hope to plan a 3rd. It is a very reasonable price for such a convenient and relaxing stay. Two things of note: in my experiences, the beds are very firm. They have many rooms, so inquire as to options if this may be a problem for you. We woke up stiff/sore which can sabotage a trip if that you don’t feel good. The other is basic but it seems, missed all too often by guests: If you are scared of monkeys or just don’t like them, instead of giving this lovely place a poor review, just stay somewhere else. There are often more monkeys on the CS property than people see in the Monkey Forest on tour. CS is IN THE MONKEY FOREST! Overall, always pleased with my choice to stay here.

it was a nice property. The first room we stayed in was a little older and you could tell it had been around for a while. it flooded so they moved us to the rooms closer to the restaurant and those were SUPER NICE! They looked a little more modern and alot cleaner looking. I would make sure to request one of those rooms rather than anything towards the back. The spa was really nice! The location is very convenient to the the road with all the places to eat and shop! The pools looked nice but it rained the whole time we were there so we didnt get to enjoy them.

Ac broke in the room and sprayed water & ice on me

I rented 2 rooms for my friends and I, one of the rooms was perfectly fine but my room was horrible, mid night the ac started spraying water all over my friends bed while making an incredibly loud grinding sound. This happened 3 time and on the third time it spit out ice chunks all over my friend when we were trying to sleep. I called up matinence to fix the ax and he called up the management and told me that we were having our room switched to one down the hall. This happened at 4am, we packed all our stuff up and switched rooms that was a downgrade from what I paid for (got to the replacement room at 5am). We did not get to sleep due to the noise from the ac starting at 11pm that night, in the morning we were woken up my a lawn mower right below the balcony at 8:30am. We didn’t get to sleep more than 4 hours due to all of these events and asked for a refund that was very quickly declined. When I called that night about the ac this was a very common issue they have delt with in the past. Not happy at all with how they handled the situation!

We had a great stay here. It’s located right next to the monkey jungle so the monkeys are always entering the hotel grounds and they are very entertaining. It has a great swimming pool as well which is great when you want to escape the heat.

Our room was much bigger than I was expecting and the bed was extremely comfortable.

They couldn't provide the room we had booked for (queen bed) and gave us a twin bed room instead. They didn't care at all about us being unhappy about it, didn't even apologize. Apart from that, the cleanliness is below average, both in the room and everywhere (the swimming pools are not well maintained), the food at breakfast is just average. I don't recommend this place even if the location near the Monkey Forest is good.

Lovely stay at Champlung Sari. Have stayed here several times and I keep returning. Great value and good location to be able to do the main part of ubud on foot. Having the monkeys about always gives you something amusing to look at (one was walking around with undies on his head!). Staff friendly and room a tad old but very spacious and bed comfortable. Will definitely return again.

Nice hotel next to the Monkey Forest which means you get lots of visits from the monkeys roaming around the villa! Was good video and camera footage! Only downside is you can leave anything outside on your balcony and when relaxing by the pool you can’t take anything out with you if you have a tendency to fall asleep e.g. a book, sunglasses, suncream, cigarettes as we witnessed all these things being stolen and torn apart so be wary. The hotel itself is much nicer than it looks from the outside I think it could do with some modernisation whilst retaining some classic Ubud features to give it that rustic feel. The bathroom in the standard rooms are very basic and our bath wouldn’t even fill up as he plug didn’t fit and the shower temperature was variable so it was a bit disappointing when coming from a 5* resort previously in Seminyak. The staff are friendly as are most Balinese people are but here many lack English skills to communicate which was very difficult as I would ask basic requests at the front desk and they would have to call out across the hotel to get someone else to come translate which I think is unprofessional as they shouldn’t be be working on the front desk if those skills aren’t yet up to scratch. This was more of an issue than I would usually make because our stay coincided with the earthquake so we had to cancel our future hotels in Gili and Lombok and staff were no help. Lots of the staff are underage, young girls and boys maybe 13 which was uncomfortable

Luxurious accommodation for a reasonable price

I felt that I was living in the lap of luxury during my brief stay. The hotel's proximity to the Monkey Forest ensured that one or two of the furry little critters ventured into the grounds from time to time - they are a delight to watch.

The architecture of the hotel externally was very Balinese in design rather that Western-influenced which I appreciated, but all the amenities were up to the standard of a good hotel anywhere in the world.

The smorgasbord breakfast at Rp 100,000 was good value. I found the staff to be excellent; they were efficient and cheerful. The parking area in the hotel precinct for taxis, buses, and guides was more than adequate, essential in Ubud where parking is now almost non-existent.

I cannot fault the hotel or its staff. If I am in Ubud again I will certainly stay there again.

Watch out for the monkeys

It is a lovely hotel which is close to everything however you do need to be aware of the wild monkeys that populate this hotel 🐒. I had an unfortunate encounter where they were all over me (bit terrifying) they are very cheeky and try and open your door into your room (make sure you keep it locked at all times). I did not feel comfortable to laze around the pool and had to ask for an escort to my room a couple of times. That being said when you are behind locked windows on your balcony they are very entertaining.

When we checked into our room upon arrival, it wasn't as cleanly as we had hoped so the staff moved us to a new room. Unfortunately the new room was worse than the first. The drain was clogged, dirty towels, overflowing toilet. We were so tired we sucked up until the next morning. The general manager Mr. A was more than accommodating and listened to our concerns. We were moved into a third room which was what we had expected the entire time. The room was clean, and adequate for our booking. We stayed 4 nights total and we were more than happy the rest of our stay. The manager even offered us free massages in the spa which which I highly recommend using if staying at the facility. I ended up going back the next day on my own because it was the best massage I've had. The property is beautiful located right next to the monkey forest and the location couldn't be better. Other than the first rough night, we really enjoyed our stay at this hotel.

Everything about our stay at the Champlung Sari was great.Breakfast ,the pools,restaurant,Location {right next to Monkey Forrest}and the staff who where top class.BUT>>> the most enjoyable part of staying at the Champlung Sari in our opinion was the antics of the very large troupes of Monkeys who are all over the place and really make you laugh and I could just sit and enjoy them all day

Good value hotel

Great value for money. Upgraded due to mix up with bedding with no trouble Staff incredibly friendly + helpful, always smiling + busy maintaining the property. Faculties well kept, monkeys scared away often + staff watching out for them. Not the place for you if you dislike monkeys..always a few around + not able to walk around or sit at pool with any food. Very convenient location, mini mart 50m away from entrance, pharmacy approx 500m up the road, easy walk to the Ubud markets, plenty of places to eat + drink within a very short walk, supermarket approx 10 mins walk away.

Nice hotel in the middle of Ubud

The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, the hotel grounds were relaxing and quiet with 2 pools and monkeys come out to play in the early mornings and evenings. the hotel is close to shops, restaurants and 10 seconds walk to the monkey forest.
Unfortunately, our bathroom was being renovated at the time, so it didnt look all that great but we didnt mind as the size of the hotel room and balcony were spacious and comfortable.

Review of Champlung Sari Hotel

Second hotel as part of a honeymoon trip across Bali. Situated next to a monkey forest which added some charm, but we had to be mindful of the cheeky chappies stealing our bottles of water and other items! Lovely friendly service, pool and room. Bathroom was fairly basic, but clean and a good size

Older but beautiful hotel and fantastic staff

This place is not fancy but the warmth of all the staff makes this place a very special place in Ubud. The added extra is all the delightful monkeys running around the place . The breakfast provided is plentiful both Indinesian and Amerucan is only okay. It is not tasty like other places that provide breakfast for guests. This is the only improvement along with there internet is poor.
The place is magical and peaceful. I definitely will return when I come back to Bali and go to Ubud!

Monkeys everywhere

Wonderful hotel. Spacious rooms. About a ten-minute walk to town, but taxi drivers hang out at the entrance all the time. Right next to the monkey forest and you see them everywhere. They can be a bit aggressive if you're carrying food but otherwise they ignore you. Ask the front desk about renting a car for the day because they can usually give you a better deal than the drivers.

Beautiful place. Amazing service from wonderful people (couldn't have been better). Highly recommend this hotel. We stayed 13 nights and enjoyed every day. One tiny thing: there are wild monkeys on the premises. If you're okay with that, then you'll be fine.

Next door to the Monkey Forest

Excellent from start to finish, loved watching the \"monkey wranglers\" chasing down the misbehaving monkeys, one little guy outside our room thought he was pretty tough until I opened the door and made the sound the Wranglers made and then he ran off, I think he was expecting a treat but we were warned against it (although I'm sure many people give them treats). The reason I choose this hotel was the reviews telling of the monkeys stealing anything left out, I was not disappointed as they made the rounds of all the balconies looking for things left outside while the guests were away. All in all, it was a very memorable stay and I would highly recommend going, if you are expecting the \"Ritz\" hotel you should look elsewhere, if you are looking for a clean, friendly, fun place to stay and visit the monkey forest, then this is the place for you. Although we had booked our tours online before we came, they do have a \"tours desk\" to help you make the most of your stay.

Great hospitality.

The hospitality and service was wonderful. However, the room had cockroaches. The staff was more than happy to move us to a different room but I just didn't want that problem to occur again so we moved to a different hotel.

Great choice! Just off the main street, 1 minute from the monkey forest. Indeed, there are enough monkeys running around the grounds that there's no need to visit the forest! Watch out for your belongings when sitting at the pool😊 BTW....2 nice pools.
The room was a bit dark, and dated, and the bed was very hard, but overall more than adequate.
WiFi was sometimes weak, but certainly manageable.
Breakfast buffet was great....lots of choices, including several coffees.
Very pleasant workers made it an enjoyable stay😆

Could be amazing

Great location, nice pool, and amazing staff. Unfortunately, the room was just...grubby. Technically clean, but the shower was stained, the mosquito net was torn and stained, and they didn’t clean the tub regularly. For the price, ok I guess, but it’s a shame. It could be amazing.

good fun with the monkeys

Starting the day with a fantastic breakfast buffet while looking at the monkeys playing outside, after that indulging in the two hotel pools and watching the monkeys hop all over the spacious and green hotel area made the stay unforgettable. The staff try to control their movings in a friendly way, as monkeys never behave themselves! The restaurant offer nice food at very competitive prices no more expensive than in the stalls outside. The massages offered are a little bit too pricy in comparison to other Ubud Spas. We will be back for sure!
