Great Hotel near Peneda-Gerês Park

Hotel São Bento is a beautiful hotel in a great location near Peneda-Gerês national park. Everyone at the hotel were very friendly, kind, and helped us in English to address our limited Portuguese vocabulary. The restaurant was delicious as well, and the nearby park has amazing viewpoints (miradouros), waterfalls (cascatas) and hiking. We would definitely come back and stay at this hotel again.

Sanctuary views

Modern, clear, pleasant hotel with excellent views of the Sao Bento Monastery just over the road. Excellent room with balcony, big bathroom. WiFi signal was weak/useless. Charming staff. Dont be fooled by their pictures: there is no free thermal (or otherwise) pool in this hotel, or indeed anywhere in the area.

Picturesque stay in beautiful Portuguese national

Excellent location, balconies overlook the main church and the square. Beautiful views of the rivers and the mountains. Rooms of a good standard with excellent restaurant which is very reasonably priced. Staff always helpful and obliging.

We really enjoyed our stay. This hotel is ideal for those wanting to explore the Gerês area of Portugal.

We had a direct view of the São Bento sanctuary which was a bonus. Our room faced the sanctuary, the Calvo River and the mountains. The area reminded us of the Muskokas in Ontario.

Excellent hotel. Excellent location for the national park. Downside was that there was only the hotel to eat in. However hotel restaurant was amazing. Great food and great value. Breakfast also fab.

Amazing stay

Everything was absolutely spot on. Hotel facilities are mantained in a very good condition and the staff could not be more helpful and friendly.
I would really recommend the room with the hot tub... It is worth it!
The breakfast also deserves to be mentioned. Very good quality products and a lot of choice.
Definitely will come back.

Great Location near Peneda-Gerês, Great Restaurant

My wife and I stayed here while visiting Peneda-Gerês National Park. Sao Bento was a fantastic location for exploring the park and trails in the surrounding area. The hotel is a short 10-15-minute drive to Campo do Geres, where we went on a great hike (Cidade da Calcedónia trail) followed by a terrific drive through the park, along the Rio Homem (lake) to the Spanish border, and back down N-308-1. The hotel staff recommended a hike that left from the front door of the hotel. While technically outside (west of) the park, this was a fantastic hike up into the hills behind the hotel, with great views of the park and lakes below. The hotel has a great restaurant, with good food and reasonable prices, and we ate dinner there both nights. Breakfasts (included) were terrific as well, with a large buffet spread. Our room was very clean / newly remodeled. The town of Sao Bento is very small, though probably one of the largest towns in the reason due to the beautiful Sao Bento church across the street from the hotel, which is a pilgrimage destination. There are great sitting areas in the balconies on the front of the hotel, which are great for an afternoon snack, relaxing, and people watching along the road and church across the street. There's also a pool table, which was one of the most comical / frustrating games of pool I've played, as the corner pockets were barely wider than the pool balls, requiring laser accuracy.

Close to the Park

We chose this hotel because it was close to Geres Pineda Park. Parking is available to guests on a first come first served basis as they do not have sufficient space for all cars in their reserved spaces. There is on street parking nearby. The room was super clean and comfortable. Breakfast was included in our rate and there was a lot of choice. We would definitely recommend this hotel to others.

Great hotel. Convenient to Serra do geres

I'm usually hesitant reserving a hotel room without knowing the area or the hotel. I have to say this one was an excellent choice. Very friendly concierge. Hotel breakfast (which was included) had a large assortment of fresh breads, muffins, pastries, fruit, etc.
free wi-Fi was also a plus. Room was large with beautiful modern bathroom. Had. Balcony overlooking S Pedro church.
An excellent choice and definitely will come back and stay again as well as recommend to friends.

Dejligt hotel overfor st. Bento katedral.

Fint hotel midt i Geres lige overfor den 2. Mest besøgte katedral i Portugal. Dog er der messe fra 15 til 17 med højtalere på men det er meget hyggeligt. Fin restaurant med rimelige priser.

hôtel très bien , chambre propre ,lit confortable.
pour un 4 étoiles , la robinetterie pourrais être meilleur : simple robinet mélangeur avec vieux pommeau de douche qui diffuse grosses gouttes désagréables . la télé est vraiment petite , je trouve que une piscine intérieur aurait été très bien aussi. ce mois de Mars il y avait peu de monde dans l'hôtel et pour le petit déjeuner buffet , ça été un problème parfois il y avait tout et d'autres fois non .une journée pour savoir ce l'on voulait pour le lendemain on nous a fait remplir une feuille mais pas systématiquement .en fin de séjour au petit déjeuner il n'y avait pas de buffet et nous avait préparé donc sans nous le dire la même chose qu'au début mais bon on a pas forcément envie de manger tout les jours la même chose ! j'était vraiment déçu.

Estadia em família agradável!

Foi uma estadia agradável, tendo em conta relação qualidade preço e a altura do ano. Ponto mais negativo para falta de vista nos quartos localizados para a parte traseira do hotel e ausência de um welcome gift no quarto. Destaco o bom pequeno almoço e o snooker a disposição dos hóspedes ao longo do dia.

Wir waren nur eine Nacht auf der Durchreise hier und haben das Hotel wegen der Lage und der guten Bewertungen gewählt. Sehr freundlicher Empfang. Das Essen im Restaurant am Abend war sehr gut. Das Ambiente weniger. Das Frühstück war nach dem Abendessen sehr enttäuschend und war auf die Versorgung einer großen Besucherzahl ausgerichtet. Die Qualität und das Ambiente entsprachen eher einer Kantine als einem 4 Sternehotel.

Super séjour en amoureux

Nous avons passé quelques jours en amoureux dans cette hôtel 4 étoiles. Tout s'est très bien déroulé, de notre arrivée à notre départ.
Nous avions un chambre avec une petite terrasse avec vue sur le sanctuaire. L'hôtel a son propre parking ce qui permet d'avoir toujours de la place.. Nous avons également fait un massage au spa de l'hôtel.
Le buffet du petit déjeuner est très variés et le restaurant de l'hôtel était délicieux. Le personnel était toujours souriant et agréable. Sa localisation permet d'être proche des différentes randonnées que propose la parc naturel. Et la chambre est très confortable.

Hôtel et prestations associées très satisfaisants

Cet hôtel est particulièrement beau et agréable pour y séjourner. Il est d’une propreté et d’une hygiène irréprochable. Le personnel est d’une grande gentillesse et le service est soigné. Nous n’avions pas prévu de dîner dans le restaurant de l’hôtel mais finalement compte-tenu de la qualité des plats et du service en table, nous avons décidé de dîner chaque soir sur place irréprochable. L’hôtel est situé à l’entrée sud du parc national de Gueres ce qui permet d’organiser facilement visites et randonnées.
A noter enfin le spa de l’hôtel agréable et moderne.
Pour conclure, nous recommandons vivement cet hôtel.

Goed hotel, royale kamer met helaas maar 1 stoel om op te zitten. Redelijk goed ontbijt waar helaas de roereieren en de bacon koud waren. Zeer goed restaurant voor het diner met een goede kwaliteit/prijs verhouding; zeer royale porties.

Bom hotel, nunca desilude.

Já durante vários anos que ficamos hospedados no São Bento, é um hotel bastante confortável, com bom pequeno almoço e restaurante muito bom. Os quartos são confortáveis, a almofada nem por isso, deveria ter pelo menos 2 opções. Uma almofada baixa e uma alta. As casas de banho são confortáveis, quentes de inverno com boa luminosidade.

El hotel tiene una situación privilegiada, delante de la iglesia, cerca de restaurantes y la playa fluvial, un pequeño parque con lago, muy bonito, la habitación moderna. Lo que no me gustó fue que elbprimer día muy temprano sonó una alarma de incendio, se cerraron las puertas antiincendio del pasillo y a los minutos se paró. Pero nadie nos dijo si todo estaba bien, si pasaba algo, tuve que llamar yo a informarme. El segundo día cuando bajamos a desayunar en nuestro turno de una hora ,tuvimos que estar esperando media hora y aún así tuvimos que ir nosotros a hablar con la chica de la recepción para decir que como hacíamos y nos dijeron que vinieramos en el siguiente turno una hora después, ( eso fue para mí un gran fallo de organización, el día anterior a la noche había llegado una excursión de gente y estaban todos desayunando en nuestro turno, y en vez decirle que no podían, o nos preguntaran a los demás sí podíamos cambiar el turno. Dejaron que estuviéramos ayi esperando para al final hacernos cambiar el turno y lo último que no me gustó es que de cortesía ponen fruta una botella y unas cápsulas de café. Las cápsulas a lado tenían una cartel que podías interpretar de varias maneras, pero con lo que costó la habitación pensé que sería un obsequio. Pues al hacer el check out nos cobraron los 3 cafés que habíamos tomado. En otro tipo de habitación puedo entenderlo pero en una que nos cobraron 190 euros la noche no me parecio bien, o que por lo menos este mejor explicado.

La salle de bain est très jolie et grande, propre.
Toutefois le bidet est mal positionné car juste a la sortie de la douche ce qui ' est pas pratique pour sortir de la douche.

Prima; mooi gelegen hotel met prachtig uitzicht

Hotel Sao Bente ligt op een helling tegenover de basiliek van Sao Bente; het heiligdom wordt jaarlijks door 2,5 miljoen mensen bezocht en in de weekenden krioelt het hier van de mensen. Het hotel ligt dus niet in een dorpje. Gelukkig heeft het hotel gereserveerde parkeerplaatsen voor de deur want anders is het op zaterdag of zondag uitermate lastig om in de buurt te parkeren. Door de week is het rustig en kan je wel goed in de buurt parkeren. Vanaf het uitzichtplateau naast de kerk heb je een prachtig uitzicht over het stuwmeer.

Het hotel is keurig verzorgd en heeft drie verdiepingen. De goedkoopste kamers aan de achterzijde hebben geen of kleine ramen, de iets duurdere kamers liggen allemaal aan de voorzijde en hebben een ruim balkon met twee stoelen waar je fijn kan zitten en een heerlijk uitzicht op de basiliek en de vallei met het stuwmeer.

De kamers zijn schoon. Hebben goede bedden, grote kasten en een ruim sanitair met grote douche, toilet, bidet en wastafel. Ook is er een ijskastje en een safe in de kamer. In het hotel is er een lift,

Het ontbijt is prima, maar de ontbijtruimte is weinig sfeervol en ziet eruit als een bedrijfkantine. Op de eerste etage een poolbiljart en het restaurant waar je prima kunt eten. Hele grote porties; met het hoofdgerecht alleen zaten we al vol; daarnaast een ruime keuze aan wijn op de wijnkaart. Hier kan je dus goed terecht voor het diner.

Al met al een uitstekend hotel tegen een goede prijs.
