When I first arrived, it was really late (2am) and I was super tired from a long travel day. The room they put me in initially had not been properly cleaned—there were still food items in the fridge and the bed was infested with something that caused me to itch uncontrollably until I simply couldn’t take it anymore. I asked to change rooms. It makes me wonder if they had washed the bedding. The other room also hadn’t been emptied of the previous tenant’s items—several items were in the closet. I was offered no apology or any consideration whatsoever. They were also the only place in all of Turkey to charge me an extra 7 euros on a CC transaction. Do better.

Quirky room and quirky hotel (in a good way, if that’s your thing!). Staff are incredibly friendly. The hotel location can’t be beat - it was close to everything we wanted to see. Breakfast was fine - met the need. The bed and pillows were better here than in other hotels we stayed at in Türkiye! I’d stay here again.

Our room had a lovely charm to it. It was smaller than I expected, but it perfectly fit our needs! The central location made it easy to walk and use public transport. The breakfast was absolutely wonderful, and it saved us a lot of money to add it on. The hotel has an associated restaurant, which I assume is why the food was so good. Rooms are serviced every day (no do not disturb option).

A very good hotel in a great location to access all the main sights. Our first room had a few issues, eg, tv & kettle didn't work, however we were offered another room without any hassle. Best stay I’ve had in a hotel

Absolutely AMAZING from start to finish. It’s a unique gem of a place with incredible decor and super friendly and helpful staff. I had a solo room and it was perfect-nice size (is bigger than some of the photos seem), enough space to comfortably walk around the bed. Linens were clean and comfortable and the bed was as well. Instant hot water with good pressure. Breakfast buffet (included) was delicious and had good options of hot and cold. I would stay here any and every time I come.

Not sure if the man that checked us in spoke much English, check in was easy. We have him our passports and then he handed them back with the key. He called over a young man to carry our bags upstairs and that was that.
Room was quaint but adequate with a mini refrigerator, wall unit AC (necessity in July), and fully functional bathroom.
Bring a sound machine if noise bothers you, I used mine and slept like the dead; the room was extremely bright (no blackout curtains) so an eye shade would also be useful. The toilet made a racket when you flushed it, super high pitched and it went on and on.. but it flushed and the AC worked great. The shower head is directly over the faucet which ends up in your butt, annoying but the head is removable so you can stand where you like and use it.
Honestly, zero complaints. Great price for the stay and soooo convenient to all of the touristy stuff, extremely walkable. It was awesome to have a place so close for a mid-day cool off shower/water bottle refill.

This family owned hotel has a great location and the owners and staff are friendly, helpful and quick to respond to any requests. The rooms have modern bathrooms and decent air conditioning. The decor is 'old turkish antique' and interestingly funky but the common areas could use a little decluttering and better lighting and air to make them more inviting to sit in and enjoy. We had paid for a standard double and it was a little small for us but we upgraded to an available triple that was just right. The breakfast buffet was fresh, varied and tasty. The restaurant is open all day and offers a variety of dishes.

Location, location, location

The main negative about the hotel is the arrival. The taxi got close within an hour, but the roads are so narrow and busy that the final short distance took ages.
The location is so convenient to walk to all the main sites, and within easy reach of good places to eat and drink.
The hotel is quirky and has many interesting artifacts including traditional lights. There is a small courtyard that is a lovely place to relax.
We didn't eat there, as it is more expensive than nearby locations, but none are far away.
The staff are all so helpful in organising any tours, taxis and generally.

A Guilded Age treasure in the heart of Sultanahmet

Not just an artsy \"hippy-dippy\" alternative hotel (as I half expected), but a serious Gilded Age retro Ottoman home in a perfect location a block from Hagia Sophia. Decor - tasteful and nostalgic. Stairs, no elevator, so not as accessible as some other hotels, but only 3 stories. Mid-range room was plenty spacious with large bathroom. (And the Turkish ceiling lamps!) Generous breakfast buffet in the antique basement was also a blast from the past. Loved the convenience of the outdoor restaurant on sidewalk right in front at the end of a long day of touring. Good service. Good everything.

The Kybelle Hotel is a fantastic unique hotel with an authentic Turkish charm. The place is filled with gorgeous quaint antiques and the ceilings in every room are covered in Turkish lamps. This is a great little hotel that won’t cost you an arm and a leg. Really nice interiors with vintage Ottoman furnishings. Quite warm. Pretty quiet for the area it’s in. Friendly staff with good English. Good for smaller families with one or two kids (I stayed there with my 9 year-old son). The breakfast buffet isn’t as extensive as at the big, five star hotels (obviously) but it’s still good. Only things that I think could be improved were a) no hot water in the sink (but this isn’t an issue in the shower or the bath) and b) safes in every room would be helpful.

They didn’t speak much English but were very pleasant. The whole place just needed a bit of renovation. There was plenty of hot water, heating and bottled water replenished daily.

We loved this hotel! It was just what we wanted. A historic building with character. A delicious breakfast. Comfortable. Within walking distance of more sites than we could cram into 3 days. A very good experience. That being said - if you have a mobility issue this is not the place for you. We were joking that it is hotel kybele because only the young and fertile can manage to stay there. The stairs are steep and there is no elevator. We would love to stay here again.

A unique stay

The room was small, the building is old & steep steps but I would still give this place a 5 star. It is after all a heritage building and there are incredible artifacts where ever you look. It was like staying in a museum. The place was very clean, the breakfast included with the room was fabulous. The restaurant which is part of the hotel serves excellent food and lots of options.

The staff went out of their way to make the stay a memorable one. Made us feel like a very special guest in their home.

The location is very central and If you like a heritage experience you will love the place. If it is modern comforts you are looking for in a more formal settings, this is not it

Would I stay there again? - in a heartbeat!

It was definitely not a good experience. The room was very hot, the AC does not work. I could not open the door at night for air because the screen door was damaged so I suffered sweating for 2 days. The hotel advertised breakfast but was not offered. Uber the bed the dust seems to be there for years. All equipments in the room are older than grandma.

If you are averse to clutter, this may not be the place for you. Just about every inch of the public areas are covered in ornaments and refugees from junk shops - old radios and gramophones in one area. The ceilings are covered in lamps - including the bedrooms.
However, if you are looking for a rather eccentric place, ideally placed for Sultanahmet Square at a very reasonable price then this would be for you.
Choosing between rooms at the front or back is a choice between possibly noisy and rather gloomy. I chose the back option. Marginally bigger with a comfortable double bed with extra bedding in the wardrobe. Unfortunately not much space left for hanging clothes and not a lot of storage space otherwise. There was a rather battered feel to the room - the bathroom door did not close properly and the shower was difficult to persuade to stay in place in its holder. Unusually these days, there was a mini bar.
Outside of the room, there are some steep steps to negotiate so it would not be a great place for those who are getting less agile. The breakfast is in the basement down another flight of steps.
There is a restaurant attached serving Turkish and International dishes. Well worth a try - I can recommend the shrimp and salmon casserole.
The staff speak good English and are very helpful, from arranging a car to the airport to warning of local scams - beware the shoe shiner who drops his brush. A happy place for a first time visitor to Istanbul;

3 Days in Istanbul

Arrived Sunday 11am in October and were able to check in to a warm and helpful welcome as our room was ready. We had a beer and tasty light lunch at hotel before walking down the pedestrianised road on which the hotel is situated to the Hagia Sofia (2-3min) and then the Topkapı palace. The hotel really is that convenient. The hotel was just as described with plenty of character.
Breakfast was self service and plentiful.
Our bathroom fittings were a little tired but all functional and clean. We slept well and I enjoyed the character of the old Turkey feel of the place.
Yellow metered taxi from airport cost us just under 70lira. With the street pedestrianised the taxi dropped us off 50m from hotel at top of the street.
I would recommend the hotel.

Whenever we are in Istanbul we stay at the Kybele. From its friendly and accommodating staff, its superb location in the heart of Sultanahmet tourist district, and it’s stunning decor, it a jewel among hotels. The complementary breakfast is great and it’s restaurant inside and out on the street is staffed with amazing people and a wide selection of delicious meals.

Open bottles of shower gel and shampoo, broken shower column. Hot water unstable, water would get cold during shower then back to hot.

Average breakfast and Staff was nice overall.

Summary: The place is very highly overrated. You can find much more comfortable and cheaper places in the area for the same price or less

Perfect throwback gem

Perfect location - we had views of topkapi and hagia sofia from our terrace, and could walk to those spots in about two minutes. Grand bazaar maybe five. Hotel itself has a comfy and homey atmosphere, AC in every room, and super helpful staff (arranged airport pickup and dropoff, among other things, and kept the kitchen open upon our latenight arrival). Just a great little spot, with a throwback feeling of the old hippie trail days (in a good way). Highly recommended!

Exceptional interesting hotel with superbly helpful and extremely friendly staff. The rooms are unique - look at the pictures of the lamps in the rooms - and our room was excellent but be warned that the stairs to the top rooms can be steep (so if this is a problem with this ask the hotel for one of the lower rooms). The food was some of the best we had in Istanbul and there is great pedestrianised roadside and also a small enclosed garden room for eating. The hotel is located in a easy walk to Hagia Sofia, Topkapi, the Blue Mosque and the central area.

Well located atmospheric hotel

This hotel is close to many of Istanbul's main tourist attractions. It's in a buzy area and has a very good restaurant. The decor is eclectic and there's always something to look at including the many lamps adorning the ceiling. The staff are also welcoming and provide advice.
