Lovely stay at the Kings’s arms. Had a junior suite with a quirky 2 floor arrangement, lobby and bathroom downstairs and main bedroom upstairs. Fantastic location in the heart of old Amersham and good parking. Lovely afternoon tea and good breakfast, freshly made to order

Beautiful features but needs an update

An historic building with beautiful original features but showing quite a few signs of needing an update eg stained staircarpets do not give a good first impression.
Our en-suite bedroom was large with original beams, big TV, coffee machine, tea -making facility with bottled water provided. The double bed was very comfortable and clean. On the top floor it was hot but there were two fans provided.
The bathroom was large but had few surfaces, the basin tap was loose and the shower screen seal needed replacing. Towels were fresh and clean and there were the usual free toiletries, but no toilet brush! The shower worked very well.
Breakfast was very good with a large choice of Continental and hot food., and included in the price.
We had an evening meal in the restaurant, which had a range of usual pub fayre, and was tasty and good value.
Staff were friendly but parking on site was difficult because of wedding parties.

Beautiful hotel & fab location for trip to London

Really lovely hotel. Beautifully decorated and super clean. Loved the cute quirky design too! Plenty of parking in secure area. We were able to check in 30 mins early when we arrived. Delicious breakfast with plenty of choice. Well situated for us to take a tube on Metropolitan line into the West End (1 hour journey) from Amersham station (a 20 minute walk away) and avoid paying any hefty train fees of congestion charge.

A wonderful gem of a hotel

This is our second stay at the Kings Arms Hotel.

It is absolutely stunning from first glance on the road, to the courtyard and rooms.

The bar and courtyard seating are beautiful.

We had the courtyard duplex. There was a gift teay of wine, chocolates and artisan crisps for us.

There was sparkling and still water, along with a Nespresso machine and capsules, plus a kettle, teas, coffees, hot chocolate, milk and biscuits.

We stayed 2 night and these were replenished.

The staff are friendly, welcoming and cannot do enough for you.

As we were staying in the original inn, there is no air conditioning. It was a heatwave, so they ensured our room was well ventilated prior to our visit and got us a fan - which enabled us to sleep.

I'm vegan, and the breakfast they made me each morning was delicious.

We love this hotel and intend to return in future.

Booked here at the last minute for a short-notice trip, and made my choice largely based on availability, but I appear to have been very lucky to have chosen this gem of a place. Absolutely lovely hotel set in a really nice traditional building with more modern annexes at the back (but still in keeping with the original older building), very clean and comfortable rooms (including air conditioning), friendly and helpful staff, really nice atmosphere, and overall a very pleasant experience to stay there. And exceptional value for money too. I found this place by accident/chance but I would definitely stay here again by choice. A lovely experience, thank you.

Overall - pretty poor.

Overall quite a run down hotel. The bathrooms are in need of updating. Toilet looked like it hadn't seen any bleach in recent times. Gave our friends a room that they then refused as it stunk of smoke, we checked in 20 minutes later then tried to fob us off with the same room rather than freshen it up. Rooms are very rickety, uneven floors - beds are on a slant and lumpy realised by head was lower than my feet. Breakfast was also very slow, they come across as quite under-staffed and in need of investment

Nice old fashioned hotel. Needs a little maintenance (missing toilet seat lid, stained carpets) Staff and breakfast excellent. Good parking but narrow entrance.
PROBLEM...booked as fully refundable up to 24 hours prior on hotels.com. However.. hotel charged my card 4 weeks before and informed me I could no longer cancel!!!

Ideal location and very comfortable

Lovely old hotel in the centre of Amersham old town. Room was in the annex and very comfortable and warm. Great shower.
We picked the hotel as a base for walking and it was an ideal location. Lots of pubs and restaurants on the high street and looked so beautiful with all the Christmas lights and decorations

Lovely hotel in a lovely setting

Newly refurbished and nicely decorated room however, the broken handle on the shower was reported on arrival but it had not been repaired by the time I checked out. The bed was very comfortable and the wifi was good. The shower needed a mat as the floor was a little slippery. On one day my tea/coffee was not replenished. The room was equipped with a Nespresso machine, kettle, hairdryer and iron plus ironing board. Had the shower been fixed and the housekeeping been efficient the rating would have been higher.

Weekend at the Kings Arms Hotel

A lovely hotel wth character. Very comfortable room.
Two downsides: the bar is very small and got very busy, and there was quite a wait time to order drinks at times. The other downside is the time to have breakfast.... we arrived at our prebooked time of 9.30 and on both mornings, our breakfast arrived around 10.30 so althought it was a nice breakfast, it would not suit if you are in a rush.

This is an excellent hotel with nothing to let it down. The location, decor, staff service, rooms, free parking, choice of breakfast, room facilities such as a coffee pod machine, bathroom, bed and everything that goes with was excellent.

We didn’t dine here other than for breakfast and that was very good with lots of choice. As stated the staff were very helpful and friendly and we will definitely be back!

My room was not cleaned upon my arrival no toilet rolls dust everywhere especially on edges of the carpet and in the en-suite
I went to wedding on Sunday and upon my return I found my door to my room wide open which made me feel very unsafe as the downstairs entrance door lock was not working

Beware if staying when there's a wedding on

Really friendly check in - quick and simple. When we arrived the car park was full but there is unrestricted parking on the street outside.
We stayed in suite 303 which was next to the car park and close to the outside drinking area. The bathroom was on the ground floor with a set of steep(ish) stairs to the bedroom. Floor height varied by a few inches and it took us a few trips (literally) before we got used to the bump in the floor where it's carpeted over the beams. Whilst this amused us as to how clumsy we were, as this is at the top of the stairs, this could be a bit of a hazard. The room came with a Nespresso machine along with a complimentary half bottle of wine, crisps and chocolate raisins.
It might have been handy to have a night light as one switch does both upstairs and downstairs lights. This meant we had to leave the bathroom mirror light on to get up and down the stairs safely at night.
The bar area is clean and bright with plenty of tables and a typical beer choice. The staff were really friendly and helpful.
Our main issue was with noise. The venue is used for weddings with a chapel at the rear of the car park and we had groups of people in the early hours that prevented us from sleeping until after 2am. This was followed at 5.20am with staff talking and moving furniture in the drinking area and then by guests dragging their suitcases through the gravel car park from 7am. So a far from perfect night's sleep.
Check out was quick - there was no-one on reception

Lovely staff, beds not the most comfortable

Very last minute so got there very late, odd layout as so old I guess, drinks and fridge as you walk in and bathroom opposite, then up 7 very creeky steps to bedroom. Glad we got there late as room is literally next to outdoor drinking area and I heard, people outside chatting next morning (room 301).

Bed was awful and you move when person next to you moves

All staff exceptionally friendly warm and helpful

Sons cooked breakfast looked plentiful and lovely presented.

So i stay at this hotel on and off for business and overal its a bit quirky but generally good.

The goods: room a reasonable size, shower and bathroom good, bed comfortable, windows dont fit their frames ( avoid during winter) and they make up room everyday and refil the boarders biscuits... super important!

Bads: twice now i have not been able to have dinner there because the fairly small resteraunt has an event or traing going on even though ive booked it in sdvance. Thats annoying. The food this week was really good, but it can be the opposite. It seems a bit random but if anything its getting better as is my review. Food can often take quite a while also.
Breakfast is also good. Just emphasise the " on toast" for anything you expect to be on toast... because it wont necessarily be if you dont.
Also just be aware that they are in the process of renovating the place although to be fair i have only seen the notice and the new furnishings but no work or disturbance.
overall its fine for a short break ( in the warm months)

So this hotel/ pub is old and quirky not just in design but how its run. The windows dont fit the frames so if you are reading this near winter i would rule this one out. Its gonna get cold. Its got beams, lots of beams. Tall people like myself will need to duck in places. The rooms are generally really nice. The shower was excellent. The bed a little soft for me but probably right for most and the overall size of the room is fairly good. The thing to be mindful of is the dining. If they have a do you wont be able to eat there. If they are slightly busy.. you wont be able to eat there.. if breakfast is taken up by most of the residents then... you can eat there but will have to wait in the reception area. The food is also quite variable once you do get to eat it. I had a Cesar salad and ive never had so much parmesan in my life. Then the next night a pie and the top disintegrated into dust as soon as it was disturbed. Breakfast is quirky too, want srambled egg on toast... na, you just get the scrabbled egg the rest is up to you to do. And be aware if you order a full english the bacons been sitting around a very long time forming the base of any good work shoe. So overall its adequate if you need a local place to stay but not ideal

Very "average"

We asked to check in early as we were attending a wedding. They were happy to do this, although it was hard work!
The shower didn't work and maintenence came quickly and changed the shower head over to the bath taps.
We had to ask for more toilet paper.
Thick dust in bottom of wardrobe, tile grout around shower full of brown scale, soap holder rusty, mirror over basin mottled, cobwebs around window that had clearly been there a long time. We found a purse/key fob behind the chair - left by previous occupant, so clearly that area hadnt been cleaned. Carpet felt a bit grainy, but was a dark brown colour so no obvious dirt.
Curtains did not keep morning light out as ill fitting.
The bed and pillows were actually very comfortable, which was a relief after noting all of the above.
Staff were friendly and helpful although the check in was a bit shambolic aa the two male staff seemed a bit disorganised.
Breakfast was ok - good choices. Ingredients used seemed really basic (ham for eggs benedict very average)
We realise the hotel is an old, historic building, but there is no excuse for very poor cleanliness and the room (no 11) is definitely in need of an upgrade - furniture very dark and a bit tatty.

Old Amersham is very quaint village and buildings refleck this. Lots of nooks & crannies, low ceilings, beams everywhere unlevel floors made this a very memorable stay. Bedroom was a mix of very old like room with 4 posterbed & decor & modern bathroom, only 1 thing maybe I would have preferred was frosed glass on shower cubicle rather than clear as it was an 'open' bathroom.

Disappointed

Was really looking forward to this break as used to live in Amersham and was looking forward to revisiting old haunts and enjoying a bit of luxury. However, it was disappointingly underwhelming and not as we anticipated. On first view the room was good - over 2 floors and looked cosy. However on closer inspection it looked dusty, there was a lopsided lamp which looked as if it was going to fall over and the blind in the bedroom was broken. The toilet looked unclean as if it had not been cleaned well since the previous occupancy. When we returned to the room after our first night the room had clearly not been hoovered as there were still traces of paper on the floor which had dropped out of my pocket. As it was potentially dusty as carpeted throughout and there were beams with cobwebs we would have expected to see that it had been cleaned. In terms of service, we were not told on check in that the Monday breakfast would be at the Crown Hotel and often could not find anyone to ask anything. We were also woken at 4.00 am on Monday morning by someone moving the large bins individually. When I looked out the chap had a light on his hat and he was talking on his mobile so not even trying to reduce the noise. To end on a positive note, however, the breakfasts were excellent and the restaurant staff very friendly and accommodating.

Worst Room I Have Ever Stayed In

When we arrived at the hotel the carpark was already full as there was a wedding. My husband stayed in the car and I went in to check in and was asked for payment for the room. I went back out to the car to grab our bags and jokingly told my husband that I had just had to pay for my own birthday present and he looked shocked and showed me the receipt for the pre payment ! We both went back in and queried it with the receptionist who apologised and said he would issue a credit (as I write this payment has come out but no refund has been received)
We then went up to our room and OMG this is classed as a 4 star hotel. the carpet had a big burn mark, didn't fit along one wall and there was loads of dust under the bed. The furniture was tatty, one of the lights was just hanging by it's wire and there were loads of cobwebs hanging from the ceiling. In the bathroom the bath had loads of chips in it, the floor tiles were cracked and loose and the mirror looked awful.
Room 4 is directly over the reception and you can hear every word. The guests in the room opposite were with the wedding party and once the wedding finished decided to continue a party in their own room with very loud music playing and singing at the top of their voices at 1.30 I had to call the night manager and complain and in fairness he dealt with it swiftly. This has to be the worst room we have ever stayed in ! When we queried the room with reception they told us they were fully booked with no alternative rooms.
