The facilities could have been explained to me when I arrived. I found some of the options only later on my trip.
On an individual level the staff were polite and helpful.
Please improve your taxi partner provision with a decent minimum standard. Although I knew it would be more expensive to book an airport shuttle through reception, I was t expecting a car with no air con, no car seats in the back and a dashboard with multiple warning lights. The driver was fine and I got to my flight, but not the best impression of the hotel in an otherwise enjoyable stay.

Staff were polite, quick to respond to any queries and very helpful. The surrounding area is beautiful and the place itself were kept in great condition. Our rooms were lovely and clean. We made use of the pool and the gym and we were very happy with both facilities (maybe some boxing gloves/focus mitts/boxing punch bag could be added in the future :)
Overall; our stay was prefect and we will definitely stay there again when we are back in SA!

When I’m out from US to cape area, this is my go to property. I can’t always get in due to no room available but this is my first option. This property respects the Titanium status better than most US properties do. Excellent breakfasts, great service and uncompromising safety. I love the showers in the executive rooms. I push everyone who asks for recommendations for somewhere to stay to check this property out first. There’s a ton of great AirBnB in area, but this property is slightly better. Only hotel I say that about in Stellenbosch area.

This hotel is in a great location for wine tours. I stayed for a nearby wedding at Muratie winery. The hotel staff were lovely and very helpful, especially when our transport failed to turn up. Could not be better.

Cleanliness, facilities, staff, views, breakfast everything was 10/10. Thoroughly enjoyed my stay and will definitely book again! One of the best hotels I’ve stayed at. The staff were very accommodating and friendly and the rooms were spacious and we had a beautiful view and balcony.

The view over De Zalze was fantastic!
The unit size was comfortable for two people and the bed comfortable.
The breakfast was average - some of the pre prepared food tasted dusty, as if it was left for a long time before serving.

Terrible check in- offered no assistance with confusion over our booking. We had to sort it. Last evening- no hot water. They did move us but it was inconvenient. Breakfast was good but too busy on Sunday. Staff not overly friendly. Charged a tax on leaving which we were unaware of as we had prepaid in advance. Hotelnon a business park bit did have good views.

We booked this hotel as an overnight stay on our trip from Cape Town along the garden route. All the rooms are in buildings away from the main hotel which was different. Staff and Service were very good and meal in restaurant was excellent.

BIG HOTEL WELL OUT OF TOWN

The Hotel staff on arrival and throughout our stay were very attentive. The one negative is that plates of food were left outside of the rooms by guests and these were not retrieved by the staff. (One plate was present from the day before we left to lunchtime on the day we left and no one moved it. The previous day, I took another plate from the top floor of our building down to the front to make it obvious and it was dealt with then).

The pool was good although there was some remedial work going on to the area around it which I daresay is unavoidable to progress repairs. It did not prevent me and some others going for a swim.

The Breakfast was the highlight of the stay and was superb - every choice one could of hoped for and the chef was a happy contented soul who seemed to enjoy things.

The room itself was spacious and adequate but why does the hotel not provide chairs and a small table so that guests can sit on their verandah? There is also no fridges in the rooms which was a little disappointing.

Very basic facility.

I stayed in this hotel because it was arranged by the conference organizer. All things considered, it is not one I would have selected, in particular its location being out side the town. Unless you have a car, it is inconvenient to do business, dine or shop in town.

ok value for the money

It's outside of the city center, not walking distance to any restaurants. The breakfast was good, they have a marvelous egg chef. The rooms are not attached to the main building, and there is no carpeting in the room. The rooms do have a small kitchenette which would be helpful for some. The bathrooms are small and pretty dated. This was the last hotel we stayed at after staying at many high end hotels so our perspective is a bit skewed. The value is good for the cost, though.

Just a lovely place, with a beautiful view over the valley. Staff all friendly and the food delicious. On the negative side, it's away from the town itself so nowhere to walk to in the evening, but apart from that, would go back in a heartbeat.

Great hotel but WIFI...

lovely place, would be recommendable for a relaxing stay. only problem I had was the lack of Wifi in the room, and unwillingness of local IT to come and fix it, the Wifi was dependable as I was on a business trip. I phoned reception each day who then relayed to IT and vice versa, IT never spoke to me or visited me or my room. there are 4 rooms to a block and wifi is somehow centrally shared in this block somewear (probably in the loft space), a colleague was in a room next to be with perfect signal, my room had not even 1 bar, and when you could get 1 bar it was not enough to maintain the connection. the hotel did try to offer me another room, but this is a nuisance to re-pack and unpack, not to mention does not resolve the original issue, I mentioned to reception that it would not help the next guest and so on fourth, reception also informed me that IT were aware that the block I stayed has known wifi problems in the particular room I stayed in, hmmm.
otherwise a beautiful place, service would have been 5/5 if it were not for the wifi problem!

Absolutely unforgettable!

I arrived there quite late on the Friday evening. The check-in desk staff were friendly and ready to help and I was checked in and at my front door. My card didn't work initially so they sent a manager to sort my card out and to make sure I was in my room and satisfied. There was a bottle of wine waiting for me, on the house! The view from the room was absolutely stunning and the room in general was amazing. I had the weekend of a lifetime!

Arrived too early, due to flight schedule. Got to wait until 2:00PM prompt (not earlier, not later), to be allowed to be allowed to check in : no flexibility at all ! In addition, despite an early request approved verbally by the hotel's management for a late check out due to flight condition, I was intimated to release the room in the morning the day of my departure.

The fitness room was a little out of the way and they should have let me know that it was a CrossFit gym. None of the staff had actually been there. They should all go to see where and what it actually is.

remote hotel with no public transport

The bad news first: The hotel is in a remote location. Not close to the town of Stellenbosch or Cape Town. There are no taxis to be found anywhere in the town. You must have your own car or rely on a transport service the hotel uses. The transport service is not always reliable. There were a few times when I was not able to acquire transport in a timely manner. Now for some good news: The room was very comfortable, but could have used a fridge. The breakfast was nice. Room service was pretty fast. The food from the restaurants was good.

a very good hotel in a lovely town

We are lucky that when we arrived in Stellenbosch the weather changed from Rainy day into Sunny days. Under the blue sky and white clouds, we moved into the lovely, clean, and carefully operated Protea hotel. It is just three start one, but operated in a very efficient way, clean and lovely and convenient. The food served there is also nice, and the staff is willing to help. It is hard to find any defect with them.

The views are beautiful!

We stayed in a one-bedroom suite which was very convenient and clean with a little kitchenette. Amazing views of the mountains and surrounding vineyards! Close to shops and stunning wine farms. Good breakfast, I would definitely recommend the hotel.

Huge rooms, more like an apartment

I stayed here during a business trip, the staff are very helpful and friendly and rooms are spacious. The only problems were that the WiFi in the rooms were very weak signal so couldn't move around much. Also as the room was so far from the restaurant the food was only warm by the time it got to your room... but you could always go straight to the restaurant to dine.

We stayed in a chalet type room, with a separate living room and tiny kitchenette, which was ideal for us. The setting of the hotel could not be in a lovelier spot of Stellenbosch, it was outstandingly beautiful. Our shower was not too clean, we had to clean it ourselves, but in the end it did not matter as everything else was perfect. Staff proffesional and friendly, we hated to leave and would love to return as soon as possible.

Awesome stay @ Protea Hotel Stellenbosch

We arrived at the hotel after 7pm and the check in was really fast. They immediatly got our file and I just had to sign. The rooms are very nice, clean and spacious. The room service was excellent! The room service and restaurant food was great! The rooms also has a great view of the mountain and wineyards. The only bad thing is that the rooms don't have a fridge.

Restaurant not available due to large number of outside group bookings
Evening meal arrangements consisted of a menu of Salad, Main Course of Pasta and Bolognaise or Chicken and Rice all with an option of some vegetables. No sweet course was available. Hotel remote and therefore other options not easy
