Great stay overall. Room was clean and spacious with nice amenities and a large bathroom. Complimentary mini bar and welcome drinks was a great touch. Guests are welcome to walk or jog around the vineyard. Me and partner jogged around the vineyard, we loved it. The estate is beautiful and the views from the main courtyard is amazing.

Breakfast was ok and not very accommodating when it came to ordering a different combination of hot menu items (was initially told we were going to be charged extra). Then they rescinded that at the end.

The service at the restaurant for dinner was quite poor. Requested removing the chorizo from the starter which was ignored. We also essentially poured our own wine.

Otherwise the service was good. The front desk helped arrange private transfers with short lead time.

The property is absolutely beautiful and is ideally located 10 mins from downtown Stellenbosch but still feels like an oasis if you are looking for a place you don't have to leave. The vineyards have gorgeous views and hiking routes and the staff is extremely pleasant. The rooms are gorgeous and comfortable with heated floors and lovely amenities. The only drawback from our stay was the quality of the breakfast which was extremely limited fro a resort of this nature.

Incredible estate. Highly recommend this vineyard to anyone. The food in the hotel restaurant was delightful and the wine was of course perfect. The wine tasting experience was fascinating coupled with the picturesque backdrop of the surrounding land. Every single staff member were helpful and made sure our stay was perfect. If I had any negative it was that we didn’t stay long enough!

Some renovations are needed

Overall, the property is nice and staff are very friendly making sure your stay is enjoyable and comfortable. It is a perfect venue for weddings or special occasions.

The property is listed as a 5-star hotel. Our room, however, had the entire backwall with peeling paint in the bathroom which suggest previous water damage that has not been fixed. This is rather unacceptable for a hotel rated at 5-stars with a nightly rate of more than $400/night. Hence, our lower rating.

An amazing hotel. Great location. Superb staff and service. Excellent food. Room amenities great except bath towels too small, no bath salts or bubble bath yet a massive bath. Drain blocked in shower on first night. Moved to inferior room for one night. Shower fixed and we could move back to our luxurious room. Unfortunately at check out management decided not to refund me for part of cost for staying in an inferior room for one night to what was booked.

We visited last year and regretfully there has been some overall reduction in atmosphere and attention to detail. Room was excellent. Dining was mixed in respect that food remained excellent, waiting on tables and provisions like cutlery and breakfast buffet had dropped except for one lady , sorry cannot recall her name, who appeared to be in charge in main restaurant; she was very good and definitely knew what she was doing. The bar provision was poor. I like gin and my first 4 choices although listed were not available.. and they were not rare ones. Sad to see the drop. However still serene and tranquil place.

Lovely if brief stay at Asara - nice big comfortable room overlooking the lake. Huge selection at the buffet breakfast. Nice walks through the vineyards with stunning views. We had a very enjoyable meal at Sansibar with delicious gin cocktails. The complimentary wine tasting was great fun too! All staff were welcoming and helpful. Special thanks for Serge for fixing the number plate that had fallen off our hire car!

Picture Perfect Property with near perfect service

We decided to stay here after visiting for a wine tasting. From the moment we reached the front gate the service from the staff was second to none. I travel extensively for work and this is some of the best service I have received anywhere.
Upon reaching the car park our bags were collected and we were escorted to reception where they were waiting with our paperwork ready to sign and hot towels Incase we had a long journey.
The room was beautiful and the view from the balcony was straight out of a picture.
We dined in their restaurant that evening and the food was amazing.
The only thing stopping this from being perfect was the breakfast staff, compared to all the other service we received this was lacking in quality. The staff were not as friendly and were slow to assist. We had to ask 3 times for coffee and in the end gave up as we had eaten our breakfast already.
Everything else about this place was perfect and I would definitely choose this property again if I was returning to the area.

Asara, one to avoid!

After securing my booking on Hotels.com I was then sent an email by Asara on the morning of check saying if I didn’t supply my full card details before 11am my reservation would be cancelled !

The reception staff were disinterested and I felt quite rude to both myself and guests. They then charged my R50 for the keycard that was left in the room in check out.

The bar staff are good and the bar (called Sansibar) at both good with great views.

Sadly though the miserable and rude nature of the check in staff and the email demanding money upfront or they would cancel my booking took the shine off my stay. I will not be going back and will recommend to colleagues, friends and family that this is one to avoid. You’d be better staying at Spier a short distance down the road with staff that engage with you and care about both your stay and welfare.

Tranquil, with two excellent restaurants, yet within easy reach of many other restaurants should you require it. Even the basic rooms are charming and large; the better ones have superb mountain views, but you can also enjoy those from the main courtyard. My room faced into a smaller courtyard which was less spectacular, but just as pleasant. Just a very efficient, enjoyable, relaxing mini-resort style hotel, and competively priced.

One of the best places I’ve stayed- I only wished it had been longer than one night so I could have enjoyed it more! The staff were so nice and helpful, rooms and property beautiful and immaculate, and vibe upscale and decadent. We had a courtyard room and the views were breathtaking- much more so than we imagined. Historic venue with outstanding panoramic views

Extremely helpful and friendly staff, visit included wine tasting and personal, guided tour of the wine making facility, and staff going out of their way to arrange horse riding.
Breakfast on the verandah with views and clean air was sublime. Shame the fine dining restaurant was closed for dinner in the winter months, but the bistro is very good and the gin bar is reminiscent of a top London hotel bar.

I chose Asara because of its multiple high ratings and they did not disappoint. First, the people there are exceptional, especially Christopher in the Deli shop. One man overheard my wife ask me, in French, where the breakfast was served and he immediately responded to her in perfect French and led us to the dining hall. I drank their rose with pleasure, the room was impeccable, the breakfast divine, and the two dinners in their restaurant were splendid. Oh, and the view from that restaurant - heart stopping.

While we did have a lovely stay at the hotel itself, we were absolutely shocked and baffled that while my wife was getting a morning massage, the hotel proceeded to charge us a late check-out half day rate!!! We left the room at noon only because we were paying customers at the spa. Moreover, the manager on duty handled it in the most uncivilized and unprofessional manner. Despite everyone else's exceptional service (particularly Serge), we will not only never visit Asara again, we will actively discourage others from staying there. Given that we host about six dozen delegations coming to Cape Town a year, this will be a very expensive \"half day charge\" for Asara.

We stayed for two nights at the end of our holiday. It was the perfect place to relax. Our room was comfortable and spacious. The grounds are beautiful, I loved the little deli shop with chocolates cakes and gifts. The Sansibar was great with 230 gins to choose from. The Mise en place restaurant was an experience with superb service. We went on a wine tour and tasting. The tour was free the tasting was very reasonable and apparently complimentary for those guests who booked direct with the hotel.
We would stay again.

The place is lovely but it's not graded by the tourism council very well. I have stayed in much more luxurious Accomodation previously. Their in room amenities comes with a price. Pretty embarrassing if you have clients that you have taken there. I will not utilize this venue for business clientele again. But will utilize much more superior and more accommodating venues in the area.

We stayed two nights to celebrate our Wedding Anniversary. We were looking for a little luxury in beautiful surroundings - we got it!
Our room was very comfortable overlooking the vineyard. We had a meal in both restaurants and the food in each was excellent. The Chef was particularly helpful in providing for our special dietary needs (gluten & dairy-free) and the main Restaurant was very elegant.
The staff at Asara were very attentive and helpful. Our only disappointment was that for the 2 days that we were there, we were not able to visit the wine cellar. Otherwise, excellent.

A Wonderful Weekend.

Asara hotel is a wonderful place to have a total holiday experience. Our room was comfortable, kept spotless and had every appointment one could think of down to superb bathroom fittings. Superb views very efficient hotel

Called at Asara by chance to taste wine last year and was taken with the hotel. Views from the mountain facing rooms are probably unmatched by any hotel in the Stellenbosch area. Room sizes and aspects vary a little but all, as far as I could tell, have at least a decent sized patio balcony. The hotel is extremely comfortable and very well run. I especially liked the way my room was serviced during breakfast without fail every day. Perhaps the only area for improvement is the very slightly limited menu in the restaurants, although everything they offer is brilliant. The crickets and frogs are so loud at night that I first thought they were a piped sound effect! Not a problem however for sleeping as far as I was concerned. I finished my first stay at Asara thinking, firstly, \"I wish I had a few more days\", secondly, \"I must try to come back every 2-3 years\", and thirdly, \"hmm, actually I'd really like to come back NEXT year\". The estate's own wines are good value and good to very good quality, but there are plenty of more exalted (and much more costly) bottles from other estates if you fancy a treat at dinner. There are some great hotels in this area, but Asara is probably the one to beat, as far as I have discovered.

Beautiful views - Mediocre customer service

To start, I'm not super picky and I've never felt compelled to write a less-than-great review but I feel like this might help future travellers as I wouldn't neccisairly discourage someone from coming here but want to forewarn.

When checking out (in my opinion) there was a discrepancy in my bill. There was a miscommunication that I explained very clearly to the woman at the front desk who talked to me rather condescendingly and made me feel like I was asking to much. To put this into perspective, the extra charge was $13 CAN so not a big deal especially in comparison to how much you spend to stay there. She proceeded to say she would need to call the manager and have him potentially remove the charge. I said \"great please call him\". She picked up the phone and spoke to her supervisor in Afrikaans so I had no idea what she was saying (I'm clearly Canadian) and that was the cherry on top. As soon as another desk clerk came around I payed the bill and left

I'm 25yrs old, I love staying at nice places when business trips allow it and I'm more-so used to people being extra accommodating than being snarky. Really truly disapointed in how my stay ended.
However! We had an absolute blast with the bell-men who took our luggage for us! They were so funny and welcoming, the only reason I can't fully shut asara down is for the scenic views and the bell-men haha.

We also ate dinner at their restaurant on site, so nice! Food was pretty good, expensive but great atmosphere!

We stayed for 2 nights in August and had a positive experience, lots of space and well laid out.
We are at the hotel main restaurant on 2 evenings and the quality of food and wine consistently good on both occasions,
A wine tasting at the Graff winery also excellent

The purpose of this stay was to relax and recover from jet lag while preparing for a six-week trek across Africa. It was suitably quiet and peaceful. The breakfast buffet is to die for. The grounds and surrounding countryside are stunning. Close to Stellenbosch and alternative wining and dining establishments.

Amazing break just out of Stellenbosch but a really tranquil setting and a great get away
So close to all the wineries
Great restaurant at the hotel. Excellent food and wine and good value

Highly recommend Asara. It is in a beautiful setting in the wine country and the staff could not be nicer. We got a complimentary upgrade to a deluxe room which added to the pleasure of our stay. The rooms are large and luxurious, restaurant is excellent as well. A great way to enjoy the wine country.

Great Views and Stay

We were upgraded to a suite which was large and had an amazing wrap-around balcony with views of the little lake and vineyards. Bathroom was larger than most hotel rooms. Fixtures and fittings were in good condition. Service was excellent. The breakfast was excellent.

Wonderful place

Wonderful place, excellent service. Very near to other vineyards. Got a short tour of the wine production but as it was not harvest time (Jan-Feb) it wasn't amazing.
