Loved the breakfast, we thought the EV charger was a free perk for staying there. We also noticed the shower floor tends to drip lots of water and that may be an issue in future regarding any water going to lower level. Mattress was a bit too soft and moves a lot during the night as you change positions. Overall we loved the place and would come back but likely stay in a lower unit

It’s an older place but it’s been remodeled, and is in good shape. We got a room that had a nice hot tub in it. The area was quiet, everything was clean. No complaints. We’d stay there again, if we were in the area.

We arrived at the hotel about 6 pm. The doors were locked and we had to call the hotel to learn that we should have received a communication from someone about the codes needed to enter the premises and room. When I reserved the room, I was never given any indication that this would be a "self-serve" check in process with no human intervention. The room was comfortable, clean and lovely. But we were disappointed in the television. No network or local stations, just the low-cost streaming options. Next time we will spend the extra $20 to stay at a name brand hotel like we usually do so that we can enjoy the level of service that we are accustomed to.

Staff checking in was great. I was told to text a number with any concerns and never heard back after I text the number. Parking along the building was for certain rooms and it was not followed, several times we came back and there was no parking. I brought it up to the staff and the number to text with no change. The room was nice. The location is the best part, close to downtown.

The location was great for walking down on Main Street- the only issue would be the bed- not sure if mattress or box springs- or maybe both- but they were very loud whenever there was movement. Will be looking to stay again next time in Gelena- with hopes it will be warmer so we can sit out on patio areas.

You can't beat this location if you want to wander around Galena and the riverfront! Everything felt clean, safe and we had everything we needed, if in a bit of strange and old-world set up! This is an old building with lots of "charm", but as long as you are prepared for that you'll have a lovely stay.

The hotel was very nice and the communication from them leading up to the stay was excellent. I didn't like the fact that we couldn't control the room temperature ourselves, we had to text the owner to raise or lower the heat, and it was cold for awhile in the room when we arrived. Also, the location is not as close to the main street as described in the overview -- more than a block to the main street where shop and restaurants are. Also, street noise during the night was loud, as it is on the main drag through town.

This was the second time that I stayed at Hotel Galena. I was in town with my wife, we visited for Galena's Whiskey Weekend. We both really enjoyed the convenience and affordability of the hotel. It's quaint space gives a bed and breakfast feel, with the privacy of a small hotel. The rooms are clean and fresh, with a nod to Galena's rich history. The continental breakfast is satisfying with biscuits and gravy, hardboiled eggs, granola, fresh coffee and juices. The breakfast room is a place where we got a chance to interact with other guests. Nate and his staff were welcoming and charming. There is a small kitchen on the third floor with a refrigerator to keep your leftovers and travel food while you stay at the hotel. It is far enough from the main street where you can have some space but walk to the sites and leave your vehicle behind. A great value.

The owner's communication and customer service was exceptional, both before and during our visit. He went above and beyond to make everything easy for us, and provided excellent recommendations. The room was very comfortable and the shared kitchen on our floor was a nice surprise. The property was conveniently located and we would definitely stay there again.

The staff was friendly. The bathroom was clean. The bed, bedding, and pillows were comfortable. The close proximity to downtown was convenient. The atmosphere was homey. However, there appeared to be dog hair on the bedding. It was suggested to park across the street, but there was not parking available at any time that we came or left the hotel, so we had to park on the street around the corner. The room and bathroom were not what we were expecting based on the pictures online — but now I see the individual room descriptions online. I was not aware of this prior to booking and would not have paid the price I paid if I had known what we were getting into. We were assigned to room number 2, which I did not specifically choose when we booked online through Expedia. We essentially rented a single room in a large house for two nights, costing us 1/3 of my entire months mortgage. I thought there would be a fridge in the room — there was not. I had to put my expressed breastmilk in the community fridge available for all guests, which made me uncomfortable. We were in Galena for a romantic weekend, but could hear other guests through the walls. The bathroom was incredibly small — based on the pictures online we thought we’d have a large tub in our room, but that was not the case. It very well could have been my own misunderstanding when I booked through Expedia; I probably wouldn’t have rented this room if I had known what we were getting into.

The check-in was a snap. The room was ready and clean. The hotel information handout was helpful. Their listing and overview of restaurants was comprehensive. The hotel location was so close to the historic district. We were traveling with our dog and were looking for a place that allowed pets - when I found this place, saw it was so close to the main downtown area, and realized how reasonable the prices were, I booked it immediately. We were so happy with our room and the service provided by Nate, the owner. Our room (#4) was huge and had a full kitchen - we only stayed one night so we didn't get to take full advantage of that other than to stash our leftovers in the fridge. We will definitely stay here again if we ever do another weekend in town.

Our room was well prepped with all of the amenities and even several accommodations we wouldn’t have even considered. Our host “Nate” was amazing with communication and by offering his assistance with whatever questions or needs we had. Bonus tip, if having a tub isn’t a must for you, inquire about the MASSIVE steam shower bathroom remodel completed in the Spring of 2025.

Historic old building, beautifully remade into small hotel. The bathroom for our room was across the hall, although still private. We were skeptical about this, but it worked out just fine. Outstanding personal service by owner--attentive and helpful. Our bed had a duvet on it and the room was hot during the night. We would have much preferred lighter blankets that could be layered. Location downtown in historic district. Nice breakfast and outside eating area. We recommend!

We came into Galena for a get-away from the city and wanted to stay somewhere close to the main thoroughfare. Hotel Galena did not disappoint. The building and the grounds are charming, Denise and Nate were so so nice and helpful.

We stayed in #7 (one of the suites) and the jetted bathtub was divine; soothing and against the brick of the 1856 building and stained glass window…it was the best of the past and present.
Overall, worth the price and such a charming way to relax in a charming town.

After booking my nonrefundable room, I got a text that the hotel has no elevator and that our bathroom is across the hall from our room. The owner was smug and seemed very happy to not have to help us up the stairs to the third floor when I told him we could carry our own luggage.
Some may appreciate the “quaint charm” of an older building like this, but my mom and I found it to be very rundown, uncomfortable, and inconvenient. We had assumed that the bathroom was across a private hall, but it was a shared hallway with two other rooms. The bed was small and barely fit in the room. We sat on it and quickly said that we would both have rolled right out of it if we stayed there. Nate also told us that if we wanted to change the temperature in the room (and the whole floor), we would have to text him so he could change it from his phone. Additionally, the hotel is described as being “downtown Galena” but it is a 15-minute walk to downtown.
My mom and I quickly left and booked a room at the Wyndham five minutes away for 2/3 the cost of the Hotel Galena. The staff at the Wyndham were all friendly and professional and the hotel was beautiful and clean with a bar, spa, gaming room, and pool.
I would not recommend Hotel Galena to anyone. I have to believe that the many 4-5 star reviews were written by Nate or his friends. Here is a picture of my 70 year-old mom leaving the hotel 10 minutes after we checked in. I’ve never seen her move so fast as she did running out of there.

When booked, I did not realize that our two room stay involved a spiral staircase in the room. That was very limiting for 4 ladies in their 60’s and 70’s. Climbing down the stairs in the middle of the night to use the bathroom was a challenge.

The cleanliness of the priperty was outstanding. Their housekeeping services are truly phenomenal! The room was decorated beautifully, the fireplace was so cozy to sit by and the room was spacious for the 2 of us. The size of the bathroom was great with a nice, large jacuzzi tub, separate shower and double vanity! Truly, for us, the only downfall of the hotel was the noise from other rooms. We could hear when another tub was being turned on, voices(not clear enough to actually hear conversations) and movement from above us. We brought a fan with us so this was not an issue throughout the night as that provided enough noise for us. Overall. We havr no true complaints and we would definitely come back!!
