Relaxed and wonderful, but know about food options

The one thing I will caution future guests about is breakfast. It’s one menu selection (there is no menu to choose from) for everyone every morning. So if you’re a picky eater or have lots of food sensitivities, this could be a real hassle. It is served in your room only, and delivery runs a bit on island time. So if you have timed plans in the morning, make sure to give yourself an extra half hour buffer to account for possible breakfast delays.
Other than that, I had an absolutely fabulous stay. The fireplace in the room was my favorite feature. Bed and bedding were like sleeping on a cloud. Book a suite with river view if possible. The view is quite wonderful!
I saw the inn keeper every day. He’s very friendly, talks to everyone, and truly wants you to have a wonderful stay.
I highly recommend dinner at least once at the restaurant there. The food is exquisite! Keep in mind that lunch and snacks aren’t offered. Bring things from home, there’s a fridge and microwave in every room.

We had an absolutely lovely long weekend at the Goldmoor. The Arthur suite was spacious, and the whirlpool was a wonderful way to relax after taking in the local scenery. We had dinner at The Edge at Goldmoor--absolutely delicious! The breakfasts each morning to the room were much better than any traditional bed and breakfast I've visited. I highly recommend!

The property is beautiful, even in the winter with no snow. We had great views of the Mississippi river and my wife and I enjoyed the break away from society. It was wonderful to listen to the wildlife. There were so many stars out during the cloudless nights as well - and the quiet was wonderful. It was broken every 40 minutes or so with the rumble of a train passing by, which we also enjoyed hearing. The breakfasts were served in room and were amazing as well. Galena was less than 15 minutes away, so getting to town was easy enough.

A romantic getaway

The Goldmoor Inn was a beautiful, quaint romantic place to enjoy the fall colors. The restaurant was fabulous and the owner of the Inn came to each table and checked in with each guest during dinner. Service was top notch. We stayed in the turret room and absolutely LOVED it!!! Breakfast was served in our room and was delivered on time with attention to every detail. We will definitely return. The owners were very friendly. The spa staff was wonderful and the massage was the best one I've had in awhile. The room was clean and spacious. The tub and the view was amazing. However, with the price of it all there is only one reason I wouldn't go back. The Food.

I do not like giving a bad review unless I truly believe I can't find any positive feedback. And here I unfortunately cannot.

The breakfast: I got on day one. It is delivered to the room, which is nice, but it was really bad. It was French toast with allegedly fresh peaches, blueberries, a yogurt parfait and bacon. All of these things I serve in my own restaurant. None of it executed properly. The French toast had too much egg wash in my opinion so it had these gummy edges around it. The peaches smelled like fish. Either they were not stored properly or they touched raw seafood. Neither of which is okay. The Blueberries were not picked through, there were quite a few bad ones. The yogurt parfait was going untouched because... bad fruit. The bacon was terribly overcooked. I went to pick a piece up and it shattered. I quickly gave up home and drove into town where lucky Galena Bakehouse saved the day.

The dinner: I could go on for days but I only have so many words left. Long story short everything was underseasoned, the sides were grossly small portions. The wellington was terrible, i had to send it back once. The second time was hardly \"better\". It all smelled off and didn't taste any better. Dissatisfied.

Closet door was broke, would not shut all the way, painters tape still on ceiling trim, hot tub not cleaned, when i addressed these issues they said management was going to get ahold of me, they did not. We stayed in their English Cottage -- it was beautiful, clean, cozy, warm, and wonderful in every way! A beautiful view of the valley was our treat every time we looked out the window! We enjoyed the fireplace giving our stay physical warmth and warmth of heart! The Christmas music piping through our TV was heart-warming, too! The breakfast brought to us each morning at the time we specified was a delicious treat, and the restaurant on the property had food that was to-die-for, in our opinion! This location was about 15 minutes away from downtown Galena, providing for us the quiet of the country at night and close access to shopping and eating during the day! Just all-in-all -- a beautiful, wonderful stay! We were satisfied in every way! Thank you, Goldmoor!

I’m not sure how these owners call themselves innkeepers. They were rude and not involved in helping with my sisters wedding. They did not communicate well with times of events. Clearly not interested in having weddings like it is advertised on their site. The food was mediocre each morning at best. The dinner at the wedding was anything but spectacular…I could have made it at home. Not what I was expecting from a 4 star hotel. Especially for the outrageous prices they charge. If I wanted French toast and waffles for breakfast I would have went to ihop and it probably would have been better. Take your money elsewhere for a wedding and an overnight stay!! Birget and Slobo should be ashamed of themselves!!!

The setting of this Inn is beautiful. We spent three night in the Turret Suite and did feel like a king and queen. It is old European charm with modern amenities. The breakfasts were wonderful and set up in your room. We also dined in the restaurant and it was worth every penny! You hardly felt anyone around you yet your room was always cleaned when you left. My husband and I went for our anniversary, and it was perfect! We stayed in the covington suite. The room was very cozy for the chilly nights. The breakfast was always delicious and plentiful. I booked the chefs quarters for my significant others birthday. Overall, it was quiet and clean. We liked the towel warmer and beautiful A Frame design. A whirlpool tub next to a large window had beautiful views of the nearby river.

Some drawbacks: we booked this room to see meals cooked before us (thus the rooms name) and found out after asking we wouldn't be able too. I may have picked a different room if I had known that. Due to the whirlpool tub, the room smelled musty. We tried everything to air it out... Fireplaces were also off, but we should've read more into that ourselves.

The cabin that I was in was a little rundown. But I guess that is kind of what you should expect with a cabin?? For the money paid, I have stayed at much nicer establishments. The breakfast was ok as well. It was served in room, I guess the dining area isn't open yet, so the cold items were a little warm and the hot items were a little cold. Overall, I think that I would give Goldmoor Inn another try and try out one of the rooms in the main house!

Dissapointing & Overpriced - Read Before You Book.

Our experience here was poor. We were excited to stay here because of the fact that we wanted a romantic and relaxing getaway, which this place suggests that it is. The place is pretty remote from town, however after a 4 hour drive, we were informed that the restaurant was not able to accommodate us (reservations needed, but no same day and if you check in, you're already out of luck.) We booked a couple of months in advance, no one mentioned this, even during confirmation. The strangest thing was that while we asked if we can have have the food delivered to our room via room service, we were informed that they will not be able to provide any room service as well. This was at check-in around 4PM or so. Not just from restaurant, and room service at all, no joke. This was frustrating as the whole point of a romantic get away is to be reclusive, and have service such as room service. The biggest issue was of course, that the person behind the counter was completely indifferent and couldn't care any less. We paid $400 a night, and felt as if we were at the 2 star room. We've stayed at a lot of places and I was surprised at the level or customer service for the amount and the prestige this place is known for. Many other great places in town, I would skip it, and enjoy your vacation without paying a premium price for extra hassles and stress.

This review is to provide you some helpful information when booking this B&B. First, I chose to stay in the Mississippi Room because of the screened in balcony. This room is on the second floor and there is not an elevator. That was not a problem for me, but may be for some. The room was more beautiful that the photos. It was completely renovated with updated furniture, a very comfortable bed, and very spacious. The bed is no where near the entrance door which is nice. The layout is great, and the photos do not show the wet bar and kitchenette galley way that you pass to walk to the bathroom. There is a large microwave, a fridge and coffee maker there. One thing that is helpful to know is that it is a regular sized typical coffee maker you have at home. They provide two good sized canisters of ground coffee (reg and decaf) and roughly 5 coffee filters. You can make pots of coffee with what they give you in the room. Excellent! The fridge is empty and a decent \"half-size\" type. Ours was on the off position when we checked in, so double check that when stocking it. The TV is a nice size. The jet tub is also nice, but my boyfriend felt it was on the shallow side. We have been in quite a few at different locations. The balcony overlooks an equestrian center. So cool! They feed the horses at 7 am. Great view of river and for sunsets. Shower is spacious and has a \"seat\" allowing for ease of shaving. Provided are shampoo, conditioner, and lotion. Breakfast only at 8:30-10 am.

Overall Good

Overall the Goldmoor Inn was very nice. However, they need to update their carpeting and decorating. The carpeting in particular was very old and stained. They need to deep clean the place too. (We stayed in the Mississippi Suite.) Lot of dust on things, stains on carpet in room, under the bed there was \"stuff\". There was a large rip in the screen in the porch. They should put windows on the porch as the large wooden piece impede the wonderful view of the river. There is a hodge podge of furniture in the porch as well. The table out there is ridiculous for the chairs. The fireplace was a little pathetic. It is a nice environment overall, but needs attention. The gourmet breakfast was lovely! Great views of the horse farm below and the Mississippi. Get rid of the Mr. Coffee coffee maker - old and nasty. Get a Keurig.

The property is beautiful itself. But my room smelled like cigarettes very bad and when i told front desk they just said \" oh im sorry\" and didn't do anything i told them the blanket and pillows were stinking

The hospitality we received from everyone, from check-in to check-out, massage therapist and housekeeping was wonderful except for the waiter at their restaurant. He checked all the appropriate boxes in terms but there was no warmth, conversation, pleasurable banter. We were the only people in the restaurant celebrating a birthday and he never asked if we were guests of the inn, never acknowledged my partners birthday, couldn't even break a smile. It really left a sour taste in our mouth. He didn't even say have a good evening or thank you when giving me the check.

Trains! Especially the side facing the Covington suite. Last night the trains seemed to run all night WITH the horn blaring! Guests should be WARNED about this. Great way to ruin a couples trip!
No choices at all for breakfast. You get whatever they have. Misleading advertising.
The Inn itself is really beautiful. BUT....
It took almost an hour to fill up the jacuzzi.
The dinner menu had greatness but other choices just awful. A real mixed bag.
Expected much more for the heftier price.....

We will definitely be back at the Goldmoor Inn!
Check-in was a breeze. Our suite was absolutely beautiful (Mississippi Suite). We had dinner in the dining room And it was excellent.
Breakfast was included and due to COVID we had to dine in our suite - so we requested room service at 8:45am and sure enough it was On-Time. This was a full breakfast with an omelette w/potatoes & sausage, yogurt parfait, a scone, with a choice of juice. There is a stocked coffee bar in the room.
The innkeeper, and the employee at the front desk and our server for dinner were so personable. They all made our stay even better!

This is an excellent place for a couple to get away for a couple of days. The room is spacious and quaint. The breakfast was delicious. The staff was friendly. Such a great experience.

The first night we stayed, we opened a window for some fresh air. Upon our return to the room, the room was infested with bugs. There must've been a hole in the screen or something, but it was anything but pleasant. The following morning we ordered breakfast, and hour later we hadn't received our breakfast yet. We called to see what the problem was and the lady that took our order didn't write down the order and forgot what we ordered. Never received our breakfast. The air in the room was horribly dry. Overall, not a good experience.
