Murrells' Grand View House is an historic accommodation house built in the colonial style by the Murrell family in 1889 near the shores of Lake Manapouri. Owned and operated by the same family for 120 years, the House is steeped in local history, adding to its unique character.

Military families beware. The biggest issue we had was with the staff, specifically with the manager. We are a military family and we booked this hotel for a soccer tournament at the end of August for a November tournament. 10 days before the trip the government shutdown hadn’t been decided. So we tried to get our money back for one night. The manager would never even talk to us. The staff member that did talk to us kept giving us the run around and would interrupt my husband multiple times. We never did get a call back from the manager. The bigger kicker is they say they are “military supporters”. That is a lie and weren’t supportive at all. They really should take that sign down. They couldn’t be sensitive to the fact that we booked this way before the shut down and didn’t even have the decency to listen to our situation. They only cared about their money and no one else. If you are military I would avoid staying here.
Also, they have a $2.99 fee that they charge for booking through Travelocity that they don’t mention until you’ve checked in. Like I said earlier they are money hungry.

I stay at this hotel often, and it’s always my go to when staying in KC. It’s consistently nice. The people are friendly, the rooms are always clean and comfortable. The free breakfast is always great, with fresh fruit, biscuits & gravy, fresh waffles and omelettes among the options. It’s also very safe. The exterior is well lit, with cameras, and a tag reader.

We was informed it was NOT pet friendly. That's ok I rented the room for my sick husband and our 2 kids. I slept in car with our dog. Lady at desk snapped at me. If we catch that dog in the room. I said back to her the dog won't be in the room. We were never informed that we needed our card to get in the building after a hours so I got locked out and pissed my pants. The door on our room would not shut behind us we had to force it shut. Biscuits were hard gravy was disgusting. Was told manager would be in at 7:30 am when we went to desk at said time. The manager was at another property with an emergency how convenient. Customer service was even rude she would not help us til we were out of the room.

Example in room area of ours walls were heavy on dirty( a small wipe with towel would do). Hopefully the cleaning crew gets better to keep this property nice as long as possible.

My flight was delayed and I wasn't sure when I would be checking in to the hotel. I called from the airport to let them know that I was stranded but would be there the next day to check in and to not cancel my room reservation for the next 3 days. The person taking the message was talking to someone else and I had to repeat myself multiple times. He said he would make a note. The next day when I went to check in at the hotel they didn't have my reservation and said I was a no show. I explained that I had called and spoken to someone who was not paying attention. I was told I would have to pay extra because they had to make a new reservation. I am not happy with this hotels customer service and I should not be charged extra for their mistake.

Also, since there’s only 1 elevator, we use the steps, and the cleaning crew clearly does not consider whether their carts are blocking the stairway access or not.
I will not be a repeat guest.

We arrived late, did call to let them know ahead of time, when we got there we had to get two queens instead of 1 king bed, The front desk did inform us of trying to get one later on today, wasn’t upset but it worked itself out. They were friendly and courteous. Bkfst was in the morning which one day we slept through the time to eat, but food was good. Didn’t use pool, but went to see and it was nice. We were too busy to enjoy what they had too offer. Will come back and stay again. It was clean and the doors do lock at a certain time where you have to use your card to open. This was my second stay in 3 months at this hotel. Both times, I had to pay an additional $COSTS at the service desk just to get the room i reserved there. In October, the extra $COSTS had to be "IN CASH", I was told. This time, that same extra $COSTS had to be "on the card, along with THE ACTUAL COST for the room reserved". By changing "the rules" to paying this extra $COSTS along with actual room costs, now the receipts falsely depict their rooms as $COSTS more than actually advertised. You are told "its a deposit", but only after you attempt to check in. Naturally you pay because there's no time to drive around searching for a legitimate place to stay when you have reservations already. The hotel management know this, and in my opinion....are abusing this circumstance for money. If it's legitimate, mention it during online reservations applications.

So we booked two rooms. They canceled one because they over booked. We booked a month from stay and they didn’t let us know until the day of arrival at 5:15 pm. Staff was friendly but totally unethical in my opinion. If I canceled room at 5:15 pm they would charge me. So I was expecting a free stay with the other room and they couldn’t do that.

They charge an extra deposit for 3rd party bookings (not in the fine print via Expedia) and said it gets refunded as a credit to your booking party account not your card in the even of no damages. Maybe I’m being a brat but last minute add on charges don’t make my day and neither does the idea of being forced to take another trip or two before I’m rewarded with my good guest behavior credit. The facility is nice and clean but the neighborhood is sketchy. It’s not worth coming back but it’s whatever when you’re just ready for bed in the middle of traveling.
