We liked the location and the hotel space. The bathroom was quite nice. However, would be nice if the maintence can be improved such as repainting the walls and decorating the room with lovely photos. The mattress was very soft, needs replacing with a firm one. Overall okay to stay for 1 night

This hotel is in a convenient location between Queenstown and Milford. It allowed us to make it a shorter drive to Milford Sound in the morning, which allowed us to get there earlier. The room was a decent size and was comfortable and clean.

Pretty small room, felt a bit cramped. OK for the price, but could do with a few improvements, like allocated parking spaces for the rooms and better room service. No microwave in the room was inconvenient, and things like tea, coffee, sugar, etc. were not replenished daily.

This is a hotel that has a lot of potential. The rooms themselves were clean and tidy providing a basic level of service. The building itself is in need of renovation. For a cheap basic no frills option I would recommend this Hotel. The efforts of the current owners to rebuild the business and renovate the hotel to its former glory deserve support.

It’s an old motel but thankfully our room for 3 on the ground floor was not musty (even though the hallway was), so i think the rooms may have recently been “refreshed”

A nice feature for 3 adults sharing - there was a half wall between two of the three beds that provided a tiny bit of privacy.

It had a kitchenette for our am coffee. Easy parking

A very sad hotel, neglected, in need of maintenance. Fusty damp smells in lounge. Overpowering air freshener smell elsewhere. Restaurant closed. Breakfast only available if enough people signed up. Very noisy guests, no management of quiet hours. Laundry only 1 washer working. Rooms clean but tired and worn. Plugs held together with duct tape. Sliding door lock a bit of bent wire. Staff very friendly and helpful. Ok for one night stay.

We had two rooms. 1 was okay but the toilet didn’t flush properly. Took 3 flashes from wees to flush. Second room had a major leak in the wall that flooded the floor when showering and also had water dripping from the ceiling. Then 15 mins before check out all the water in the hotel was turned off completely.
On the plus side the receptionist was lovely and the beds were clean. They place is extremely dated and needs a good overhaul from top to bottom

The room was clean. The days were warm so it helped to have the fan in the room. The laundry broke on the second day, so there was no laundry available. Parking can be a little bit tough if you don’t get into the facility at the correct time location is OK. It’s a little bit away from the lake and a little bit away from downtown. But overall this location is a decent value for the money.

Rooms were outdated, outside seating area and old golf area was closed and appeared to be torn up. The lights kept flickering on and off, and the hot water went from lukewarm to scalding during showers. Some of the hallways and rooms smelled lightly of cigarettes. The pictures of the property on the site are outdated or false. There is no direct view of the river, and the pictures look like they may have been from 30 or more years ago. On a positive note, the bed was comfortable and clean.

The moment I walked into the reception area I knew I had booked the wrong place to stay. The smell of damp mould in the reception area was overpowering. Outside the gardens were full of weeds, rusted guttering leaked water stains down the walls and there were growing plants and weeds in blocked gutters. Rotten timbers in the structure were visible and the whole exterior was very run down. The halls to the rooms were as bad, a very tired carpet and mould smell. The only thing that stopped me giving a terrible rating was the room was clean smelling and adequate for its purpose. It was very dated, the shower temperature was very difficult to control (one second hot, next too cold) and the hot water temperature was set at a dangerously high level that risked scaling guests. There was visible black mould creeping through gaps in the bathroom lining and paint blistering from moisture and mould. I bring bird watching clients from all over the world to stay in the South Island and I will never book this facility again.

Room was Not in good condition, however the staff were courteous. There was a side table missing beside my side of the bed.There was no power point on my side of the bed. There was no power point for the hair dryer near a mirror either in the bathroom or the main room.The carpet was badly in need of stretching ( buckling everywhere).Room was severely outdated and needs an overhaul.The price was competitive,however in the market that is Te Anu the Fiordland needs to be better

Property is very dated, dripping taps, hot water fluctuate so much that it burns you mid shower, with two kids this was quite dangerous. Laundry facilities were painful at best, one washing machine out of order, the other did not spin clothes. Dryers did not work properly, management had not put signs on the dryers but seemed to be already aware of this problem when we enquires about the issue. Management did refund our money but had to air dry all clothes. Unfortunately this property is in need of serious maintenance and upkeep. It was not worth the money we paid.

Just like other comments suggest. The premises are a bit dated but the room and bathroom were clean and everything was working. I did not have any problems sleeping.

Distance from the city centre is an issue and the nearest cafe is 500m away. Since there is no restaurant/breakfast in-house, this can be an inconvenience.

All in all it is okay for the price, but if you plan on staying here, make sure you have a car.

The room is tiny with a half size bar fridge sitting on pieces of timber, the bench above it has a jug, coffee/tea and cups. The bathroom has been renovated but water goes everywhere as it just has the half glass shower screen. The bedding is very comfortable. The whole complex is very run down, has the feel of dorms at a school camp. The girl at reception when we arrived wasn't interested in 'greeting' anyone. We arrived late afternoon and left early for Milford Sound so the hotel was suitable for a quick stopover but wouldn't book again.

The Fiordland Hotel was good value for its money. The hotel itself looks a little rundown but they're in the process of updating. The carpets in the public areas are worn however the bathrooms were obviously recently renovated. There was a large games area which would have suited a family/group vacation well.

It looks like a converted dorm, money was spent on the bathroom sink and shower, but the tiles weren’t sloped towards the drain, which meant water in the main part of the bathroom too. We tried every input to get tv channels, but none were found and no instructions on how to watch tv, if they do have channels.
The laundry facilities were great, though make sure you clean the lint trap, to prevent starting a fire.

The property looks tired , but that was ok. The shower is elevated to step in and dangerous , the shower water goes from scolding hot for. Few seconds then to freezing cold for a few seconds, then warm and starts all over again. I could have gotten over that but the mouse that shared the bathroom the next morning was a deal breaker for us. We left for a Milford Sound Cruise early in the AM so when we returned we packed up and went to check out a day early . Told the front desk the issue with the mouse , she asked what she could do to make it right so we asked for a refund for the night we weee not going to stay and she told us we should have noticed them sooner and offered us nothing . Even a bit of a credit would have been a good faith effort. So this is a horrible place to stay

This is an old quaint place which was fine for us. Just staying a couple of nights to cruise Milford Sound. Checking is was easy. Rooms had plenty of space. Then things went south. Toilet wouldn’t flush very well. Shower was scalding hot one second and freezing the next. All could be overlooked. First night fine. Next morning mice in the bathroom and running down the hall. Checked out as soon as we got back from cruise. Front desk asked if we wanted a refund and we said yes. Then she stated sorry you’re to late checking out. Lesson learned. Steer clear.

If your looking for somewhere just to rest your head, then this place is fine.
Our room (#125) and surrounding areas need upgrading.
No couch, just two waiting room chairs (for a room sleeping 4)
Our TV only had a couple of grainy channels.
The shower was luke warm if that.
The wrinkled carpet in our room needs stretched.
