It needs a major reno badly!

No one should be changing the locks on your room while you are away and without your knowledge. Couldn't believe this happened to us. :( Not happy!!!

The parking lot was all torn up. The lock to the glass lighting door did not work. The beds were all spring and not comfortable. The building smelled. Water pressure was not good.

We had a horrible experience. The first room were given had a horrible wet mold smell and a filthy bathroom. We were placed in between about 5 rooms under construction, so there was a lot of noise until about 5:30 PM. Mold and rust all over the shower. When I tested the water, the spicket flew off of the wall and hurt my shin. When I went to the front desk, they apologized and gave me another room. No comps offered or anything. The next room was a bit better with less of a smell and cleaner bathroom. Not sure why we didn’t have an adequate room assigned to us in the first place. We stayed here about 6 years ago and it was fine, which is why we stayed. I advise anyone considering to pay the extra money to stay at the Hyatt or Holiday Inn.

The Howard Johnson at Mystic is an inexpensive lodging, located in a central location. The room we stayed in was clean, but the hallway was drab and needed to be vaccumed. The pool did not look inviting, so we didn't use it.

No locks on sliding doors , just a bar .first room they put us in the tup valve fell off . No shampoo ,no coffee maker , had a coffee container in lobby but empty , carpets in hall way had taping compound on it, place was just dirty . Been in Wyndham facilities and always been run well and clean, never go back again.

We were given a room on lower level which was old and smelly. We requested a new room which was better cleanwise. The next day we noticed that the original room was starting to be renovated.There was never any coffee in the coffe station and there was never any staff on the front desk. We were on our own.
We have stayed in this hotel before and it was never this bad. We will not stay here again.

I arrive and there’s no one at the front seat. A written sign says to “knock on door”‘which I do for several minutes. I then resort to yelling “hello, anyone here?” This goes on for 10 mins. I then call the hotel and the phone that rings is at the desk where I am standing. Finally some an employee walks through the door after “getting sone fresh air” He gives me my keys, drive around to the back to Door C, keys don’t work. Drive back to front desk only to get accused of putting the keys agains my phone. I know better, told him I did not. Get new set of keys, again they don’t work. Drive back to front desk. Employee meets me at door and tells me the door reader is inop. Mind you this is happening at 11pm. I would rather sleep in a box than stay here again Oh and the room reeked like cigs and the carpet was damp, ewwww.

If you're looking for a nice vacation or get away, avoid at all costs. This place is a dump and is no better than a truck stop motel. I don't know if the pictures are old or AI but it looks drastically nicer online. Aside from the dirty bathroom and overall run down look of the hotel, the entire place reeks of weed and cigarettes. The staff was friendly enough and the location was central to everything, but the hotel itself was just gross.

I chose this hotel because of the price, the photographs and the reviews. Unfortunately, had there been photographs of the exterior of this hotel, I would not have chosen it. It is very old and run down. The room walls had places where the paint was off the walls from where something had been ripped off the walls. Our slider on our balcony didn't even close let alone lock. We were very disappointed but too tired to complain.

Don’t stay here. I was on the ground level. They have a sliding glass that didn’t look properly so I had to put a chair in front of it all night, bathroom was about to collapse on while I was using it, the carpets needed a good cleaning, the whole room and hallways needed a good cleaning, the pool paint was pealing, cigaret buts all over the outside of the place, hallways smelled really bad, workout room had spyder webs, just a total disaster. When I arrived to check in this India guy using a toupee looked at me walking and didn’t say nothing until he was done with his cellphone. Next day at check out this lady with red hair was a little more polity but still rude also. Last time I stayed in mystic area is was a lot better, this time I did Haward Johnson but never again. No one should stay there, the pictures on the booking website are fake!!

Its a budget hotel, you get what you pay for. The rooms are old but clean. Beds fairly comfortable. Showers could definitely use an update but had good water pressure and plenty of hot water. The staff was friendly. We didn't use the pool but it appeared clean. Our room faced the highway and was pretty loud as the slider to the balcony was very old.
The hotel looks to be in the middle of upgrades so I would expect improvements in the coming month's.

Overall its probably the best deal in the area. It has an attached diner, is walking diatance to the Aquarium, Shops and Seaport. If you are on a budget this place is for you.

The staff were amazing & pleasant. For the price it was nice and served the purpose. Exercise room had cardio equipment no weights. Pool was clean but had some age spots. The parking for our room was behind the building with no entrance. The view was a dumpster & what looked like an employee entrance.
There was a eating establishment on the premises.
All in all I would use this for another weekend getaway

The only thing it has going for it is the location. The room was gross. Arrived at 10pm and were placed on a 2nd floor despite booking and paying for 1st floor. The room was big, but the beds seemed too small. I went back to the lobby to confirm we were placed into a room with 2 queen beds, and was told \"you know how sometimes clothes run small? Maybe these beds run small.\" I had to walk away to keep from being rude. Since it was already late, we decided to crash. The next morning when we actually looked at the room, we realized just how awful it was: We found a used bandaid by the bed, the carpet was stained and dirty, paint was peeling, walls were cracked and patched, and the couch was so stained it looked like it had been a prop in an adult film. A second trip down to the front desk to request housekeeping for the next day (they don't come to your room unless you request it a day in advance). Then, when we tried taking showers, the water wouldn't turn on. ANOTHER trip to the front desk to request maintenance, which I don't think ever got called. After waiting an hour, I yanked on the knob so hard that I felt like I was pulling the entire faucet out of the wall in order to get the water to work. Next day, we got back at 4pm to no housekeeping. Called the front desk and was told no one told the cleaning staff to come to our room. No one at desk to checkout. Took timestamped pic of me dropping off my room key in the box they left out on the counter. NEVER. AGAIN.

We enjoy staying at this location..this visit our refrigerator was not working, after having to pack up and move to another room the extra security lock on the door was missing and the sliding door security bar was broken…it seemed the little things were over looked…housekeeping was very accommodating in assisting with minor details…we do plan on staying here again!!

The room worked but, there were some little things that could make it better. The sheer curtain against the sliding glass door had mold on the bottom, one of the beds had a sheet with a cigarette hole in it, had to watch the toilet because it would run through sometimes and, there was a small water leak around it in the back, also, the bathroom could use additional lighting. The most concerning part of the trip was the fire alarm was pulled during the night and, the alarm was not activated in our room. Luckily I hadnt fallen asleep yet and, recognized it as a fire alarm vs another guest's alarm on their phone. Parking lot was a good size, location was good and, the employees we encountered were friendly. The fire alarm incident has made my children say they never want to stay at another howard johnsons ever again.

The room was clean and comfortable. The only thing I noticed was that the room clearly smelled of smoke and it was supposed to be a non-smoking room or hotel. Also the hallway smelled of marijuana smoke as well. Other than those two things I would stay here again. I have stayed at this hotel multiple times and have not noticed problems like this before so maybe it was just a one time thing.

Very run down. They definitely had the temperature at the entrance put low to save money (the man at the front was wearing a winter coat). Paint chipped throughout room. Shower had rust near shower fixtures. Mat on shower ground peeling up with mold underneath. Water pressure in shower was the best ive ever experienced though. No pool towels replenished (on a saturday afternoon). Cheap stay; you get what you pay for.

We usually stay here when coming to Mystic, but this time was different. The lobby was freezing to start. The side door from the parking lot to the rooms was broken so anyone could get in. In our room, the toilet seat was broken and the shower was leaking. In the morning there was no coffee put out and to check out there was no one in sight. There was a note to leave keys in the box or you can call to have someone come. This was my go to place when we come, unfortunately we might have to look elsewhere.

A decent hotel. I stayed there for one night, and if I travel to that area again, I would definitely stay there again. The carpets and the room itself were clean, but there were someone’s fake nails in the nightstand next to the bed. The curtain was torn, and there was a cigarette butt left on the balcony. Overall, the room was nice and you feel safe there.

They said there would be coffee in the morning, but it wasn’t available, so I went to a diner less than a minute’s walk away, where hotel guests receive a 10% discount.
Everything you might need is nearby.

Front desk was never manned any time we stopped by. No coffee or tea in lobby as advertised. Our room was frigid since no one had turned the heat on. It took 18 hours for the heat to take the chill off the room. We had 2 sinks in separate locations and a tub/ shower combo . We were given 1 tiny bar of soap to use for all. We will not return to this hotel.

when I booked this hotel they said there was breakfast there was no breakfast so we went in they said there was coffee and then there was no coffee.. overall the rooms are fantastic in my opinion but the owner or operator of this hotel is false advertising or continental breakfast and coffee and you get neither they send you to the restaurant that is so expensive it's not even worth eating there it was $7 for two coffees when they're supposed to be free at this hotel

There was never anyone at the front desk. You had to call a number to get anyone to respond. They seemed put out that you needed any assistance. When they responded they were on personal phone calls. Beds were uncomfortable, bedding had stains on it. Towels were small and stiff, not to mention not enough for everyone staying in the room. Had to ask for towels for the pool area because there was never any in the pool area. Front lobby was freezing cold. There was never any coffee in the lobby like they stated.

The room was very dirty. I had to use disinfecting wipes all around especially the bathroom. There was a layer of dust on top of the fridge and on all the pictures and lamps. The room was just in awful shape all around. We stayed her about 7 years ago and it was nothing like this. There was a sliding door that even when closed and locked had a small gap that was open to the outside. Worst hotel experience I've ever had.

Everything in the room was falling apart. The bedside table had sticky spots all over from where someone clearly spilt a drink. The sheets were covered in stains. The desk chair was covered in white crumbs. There was black mold all over the ceiling of the bathroom. And there was a door to the outside (I was on the first floor) that didn't even lock. Anyone could've walked in. There was a bar that was (I'm assuming) supposed to stop someone from opening the door. But when I tested it to see of the door was locked the bar just fell out... I checked out less than 2 hrs after checking in. I went to dinner after check in and checked out as soon as I returned after eating. This is the filthiest most unsafe hotel I have ever made a reservation at. I would NOT recommend anyone stay here. No matter how cheap it is.

Room and hallways were dated with fixtures falling apart. Couldn't find a staff member to check out this morning. Felt a bit like it was abandoned, which may just be a symptom of traveling through a coastal area in the off-season. It does look like they're renovating a big section of the property, so I hope that means it will be in much better shape soon.

My family and I recently stayed at the Howard Johnson by Wyndham Mystic in Mystic, CT. Once we got into our room, we unpacked and my husband checked all the windows and doors like we usually do when we stay at hotels. We were given a first floor room and when he checked the sliding door that is accessible to the outside, he noticed that there was a sheet of paper with a big red x on it taped to the door and the door itself was not locked. We're not sure why that was like that and why the door was left unlocked but it made my family feel very uneasy and uncomfortable. My husband went to the front desk to let the receptionist know and she didn't seem too alarmed by the situation. However, she was able to change our room upon our request since we didn't feel safe in that room.
