We stayed here three nights while visiting colleges. Our check in experience was not good - we were not given a map of the property or explained what sort of activities and amenities are included in the additional $70 a day. We booked through Expedia and were not aware that this property has valet parking only, which is an additional $70 a day. So just be aware that on top of your daily room rate there is an additional $140 fee plus taxes. We’ve stayed at a few other Fairmont properties and found the staff, services and overall atmosphere much more welcoming and more of a 5 star hotel experience. In my opinion, the total cost of the stay was not worth it.

Beautiful property, glad we stayed but when you spend the kind of money that it takes to stay at a property like this you expect perfection and we didn’t get that. And sadly, it was just the little things. We had to call and request water, there was only one coffee cup and one coffee pod in our room for morning coffee, etc. However, the staff was amazing and attentive, the food was fantastic and the grounds couldn’t have been more beautiful. You know going into a Fairmont property that everything is going to be wildly overpriced but usually it’s not the thing you walk away from the experience thinking about. I guess better luck next time.

Outside of your room - EVERYTHING costs additional money (kids club, water at the pool, tennis courts needed to be rented)- so I understand that that some of these items should be additional but it’s a bit cheap to do that - there was also not enough activities for kids (I have a 10 year old boy) and they could do better to have more activities

A lot was wrong with this stay. Particularly bad was housekeeping which was obvious when we found used kleenex in the drawers day one. We were always short towels and products and the “cleaning” was minimal. We paid for 3 rooms with fire pits and rarely could get them lit. We also waited an unreasonable amount of time for room service. Almost everyone was friendly except the concierge. The spa was good and staff at Amaya was super but the whole place was understaffed for the holidays and couldn’t pivot around bad weather, a private golf outing that required secret services and bomb checks for all vehicles. The pool was a garbage dump with no staff. I would not recommend this for the price. Over promising and way under delivering!

My family and I stayed in a one bedroom suite for the Thanksgiving holidays. It came complete with living room, dining room table, kitchenette, 2 bathrooms and 2 Queen sized beds and 1 Queen sized pull out bed. To our pleasant surprise, it was impeccably decorated with Christmas thistle, stockings on the fireplace mantle, and even a Christmas tree with decorative wrapped boxes underneath. Small adorable holiday displays were everywhere, toy trains, reindeer, a mailbox to Santa, etc. The staff were hospital and professional. My kids also had fun skating in the glice rink while the adults sat around our reserved fire pit with s’mores and hot beverages. I highly recommend the Fairmont Grand Del Mar as a magical getaway near San Diego.

Awful experience for a $2,000/night suite. Housekeeping was very sloppy - not vacuuming, straightening the room up, or doing any more than making the bed and replacing towels similar to a motel. Food was very expensive and low-quality, as was the extremely slow service in the restaurant. The equestrian center was closed due to construction. Half of the requests I made - if I needed towels, cutlery, housekeeping within a certain time range, etc. - were either ignored or required follow-up. Management did not respond to my complaints for several days by which point our stay was almost over. The property is beautiful but the service level was horrific for a 5-star hotel. Do not stay here unless your expectations are very low or you got a great deal on a room rate.

This is a beautiful dog-friendly resort. Customer service was wonderful. Our main criticism had to do with our room. There was a large stain on the bed bench and random stains on carpet (mentioned both to front desk shortly after checking in). The room otherwise was well-appointed and comfortable. And we will definitely be coming back.

We stayed here two nights for a large wedding. The property and grounds are gorgeous. The rooms are beautiful. Our room was never cleaned during our stay. It seems like they were not well prepared to handle such a large group of people. There were long lines and a huge wait to check in and out. The wait was 45 minutes to get our car from valet. The room was quite a trek we were put in the last room which felt like a mile hike from the lounge and front desk. I liked the privacy tho and the view out of the balcony. In the morning I would have like more than one caffeinated coffee pods, as we had mostly decaf coffee in room for the morning. We called reception and they delivered promptly. Also; one of the lamps didn’t have the piece to turn on.
Overall, this place is highly recommended and we will be coming back. The staff was the most professional and respectful staff I’ve seen at an establishment like this. Thank you for creating the ambience of royalty.

Locked out of pool before checked out most properties let you use the facilities and amenities all day....check in late and was suppose to check in early, provided connecting room when requested not to have one, did answer the phones 3 separate occasions to get ice and cannot get ice yourself, no light on the balcony so virtually unusable after sunset at 5:30 pm, only Valet parking no self parking and charges an additional $70 plus tips on top of the resort fee , access to public areas restricted due to additional tea service which cost extra in public areas. Drinks were super expensive and breakfast prices were out of control. Great property but needed landscaping update at trimming all sod need to be replaced... Not 5 star outdoor grounds areas the should have heaters and umbrellas and at sunset do not have either.

The hotel was very beautiful. Had a nice walking trail. There are horses on the property. Lots of activities to do. Tennis, horseback riding, yoga, golf and much more. The rooms were overall clean but not immaculate. There was one live spider and one dead one in our room. We also had dust and spider webs.

We recently stayed 7 nights at the Grand Del Mar and had a wonderfu trip. We had an issue the first night but staff were so helpful in resolving - special thanks to Christian. Irene at the Concierge desk was amazing in bookings and recommendations. Property is stunning and facilities great - try the archery. They had a fantastic guitarist (David) who played and sung by the pool at the weekend which was very relaxing.
