We arrived at 4pm and reception was closed - all staff had gone home. I didn’t check in online as arrival prior to 5pm stated that not to be a necessity.
Very noisy area with heavy freight train running nearby.
Rockhampton is not a town we’ll be returning to any time soon!

We left halfway through the night as the air-conditioning is temperature controlled and not low enough to effectively cool the room. It was sweltering and no fan. The bathroom floor is also dangerous as the water doesn't drain. The manager didn't care or offer a refund

There were cockroaches all over the tea and coffee making facilities, which I have video evidence of. It was like something out of a horror movie.

Also, the windows didn't open, and the room badly needed airing out as it had a gross, musty smell.

Quaint Rooms with fantastic restaurant opposite

We booked a lovely room for one night on our week long road trip from Brisbane to Airlie Beach. The room was exactly what we expected, really quaint and ideal for one night. We asked the receptionist if she could recommend anywhere nearby to have a great steak and were recommended to the Great Western, directly opposite the hotel, which was very lively and served fantastic food. As an added bonus, as we were able to walk to the restaurant, I was able to have a drink with my meal.

Historic old building however needing renovation and upkeep.
Bed so old and worn it was unpleasant to sleep, ended up with sore back. Complained to staff who said they would consult management and respond. No response in the four days we stayed. Had to pay in advance with no refund probably because of complaints and the possibility of disputes with customers. I was aware of several others who had complained and had been fobbed off. Property is next to railway and had 5 freight trains run all Saturday night, could not get to sleep.
Very limited staff on site, only between 9.00am and around 1.30pm. No room clean for the four days we stayed with other members of our Car Club. Bins were over filled, could not replace used towels, etc. Could not recommend for a stay.

This hotel is awesome. Restored to original with modern conveniences. It it stunningly beautiful, the rooms are comfortable with large 4-poster beds, lounges, spa baths, air con, block-out drapes, etc. the location is awesome, walking distance to the river, Main Street cafes and shops, the Great Western Pub, etc. loved our time at this hotel.

I booked 5 nights at Denison Boutique Hotel but had to leave after 3 due to a terrible experience. The room had a persistent dripping shower tap right next to the bed, making it impossible to sleep. I reported it immediately and was told the hotel was already aware of the issue but couldn’t fix it or offer a new room.
The manager was dismissive and unhelpful, telling me to “suck it up” and repeatedly suggesting I could leave if I wasn’t happy — without a refund. Despite eventually sending a tradie, the issue remained. The manager was rude, confrontational, and unprofessional in front of my child while she finally offered a room exchange.
The facilities were run-down and the room lock was nearly broken. My daughter and I felt unsafe and unwelcome, so we checked out early and forfeited two nights’ payment. This was the worst hotel stay I’ve ever had in Australia. Absolutely not recommended.

We loved our stay - big surprise when we opened the door - huge comfortable canopy bed, gorgeous corner spa, lovely old fashioned decor, extra high ceilings, air con, friendly staff on check-in. We would definitely stay there again. (Location a bit noisy when the train went by outside but only happened twice and didn’t bother us or keep us awake as we didn’t hear any traffic throughout the night.)

The property was on a main intersection and railway. Very noisy. Opposite the great western pub which is a good venue with things going on in the evening including rodeo and line dancing. The room was fairly clean but quite dusty especially behind furniture. Smoke alarm was broken. Spa bath did not work, no dressing gowns as advertised. Massive room was interesting and comfy big bed. Ok for a night but would not return.

Very large and very comfortable bed, quirky room distribution with spa pool/Shower, bed and sofa in one room with separate toilet!!! We loved it. Room on Main Street side bit dark and huge ceilings. Close pub/restaurant and train line opposite but did not disturb, not too noisy.

The place was just wierd, the floor was crooked and so uneven that they to put one side of the bed on slats, it looked nice but sadly the toilet area was dirty, and when you closed the door it was filthy, there were long back hairs everywhere as well.

This property did not live up to the star rating.
No lift and no help with bags. It tries to play on its authenticity but it fails. For instance even though there is a tv in the room it cannot comfortably be seen from any of the seating.
The accommodation is grubby and poorly presented. The main railway line run right alongside rattling windows all through the night and day. This hotel shows no sign of being cared for.

It started with the warning that a key left in your room would cost $50. Lots of small details, like a missing lampshade, stained spa (premium feature) made the room feel run-down, like the proprietor doesn't care. And the king mattress was truly awful - soft and lumpy. I thought to put it on the floor but then realized it was the mattress itself that was bad. Combined with the people in the room upstairs stomping on their floor (they probably couldn't sleep either) it was a mostly sleepless night. Poor value.

Loved the room, it was clean and tidy. The bed was the most comfortable that I have ever slept in. Shower was awesomeand the staff were excellent.
The only thing that was unpleasant was the rubbish bin in the courtyard that smelt terrible.
Overall, I would totally reccommend this place for those who enjoy something a little bit different.
