While we were there our son went into medical distress. The staff at the store and the reception desk were absolutely amazing. So kind, caring, and thoughtful. My son and I didn’t get to finish our stay there but they sent food packages with the rest of our family for our hospital stay. At the end of the day, a hotel is just a hotel….it’s the staff and people that make the experience. 10/10 experience.

The concept is charming and that is what led us here. This is a traditional village with lots of little houses and nooks and crannies and tiny garden spaces, transformed into a complex of rooms. The positive: there is a very nice terrace where one can sit, have breakfast and order a dinner. And the staff are very friendly. The negative: the rooms are uncomfortable and many things are broken. My shower attachment was broken so the head could not be affixed to the wall. The shower is miniscule and the flimsy plastic curtain does not prevent water from flooding out. The mattresses are more like thin mats - my colleague had a backache the next morning. The blanket was thin for the spring temperatures and the spare blanket and quilt in the closet did not appear to be clean. The WIFI only works in selected public areas. The location is remote so it's a long drive to anywhere. The many irregular stairs going to many levels in many directions are dangerous for older people and children and completely unsuited for the handicapped. I believe this location is best suited for local group events not requiring an overnight stay - there was a baptism while we were there. A corporate retreat could work as there are many spaces for breakout groups etc., but that would require functioning internet site-wide. The decor inside the rooms needs a cosmetic upgrade - aims for rustic but just looks sad.

An Authentic Greek experience!

A truly unique experience, it felt like we were staying at a friend’s place rather than at a hotel. Very homey and our room had a beautiful view. The restaurant was charming, with delicious food and we even had a group of excellent musicians with authentic Greek dancers in costume. Anther bonus - it was a 15 minu LP te drive to the airport. A great stay!

I absolutely love this place and I didn’t wanna leave. My room was spacious the meals were delicious the village and the pool are beautiful as well as the surrounding countryside. It really wasn’t that far to the city, and yet the area was rural and serene. I loved hearing the goats , sheep and peacocks.

Lovely alternative to staying in downtown Heraklion, especially if you have kids as Arolithos is a charming, self contained complex and is very safe with a decent pool. Terrific views down to bay and up to fabulous mountains. Nice outdoor restaurant terrace. Delicious wholesome Cretan food menu for both breakfast and dinner. Rooms are charming with balcony terraces and air conditioning. However, the only negative, the beds and mattresses feel like they have been unchanged for thirty years and are especially uncomfortable. Time for the management to reinvest as for me it was the only serious negative criticism.

Amazing stay, our favorite place while in Greece. Very whimsical and lovely hosts! Absolutely beautiful property! When checking in, our host saw that it was my birthday and gave us free chocolates. Cats were fun and the entire property was authentic and beautiful. Loved it and would come back.

Delightful, friendly, characterful hotel. Each room with its own balcony or patio area, ensuite, air conditioning. Plenty places to get a coffee or cool drink all day, very good terrace restaurant open all day above the pool area under shady olive trees. Shop for water, biscuits, ice creams, small craft shop, museum, forge etc (showing old village artefacts) all within the hotel as part of the village. Staff were all polite, helpful and friendly. Pool is beautiful altho' watch the shallow sloping edges when entering for the first time! Only downside was one evening (until 4am) of loud music due to a Greek Wedding in the dining/event area at the top of the village. Ear plugs would have sorted that one out easily. Apart from that, our group had a fabulous, relaxing holiday in an unusual setting and would recommend it.

Come here for the experience. It is inconvenient in location and a bit thin on facilities but that's not the point. The point is having some semblance to living in a rural Cretan village on stone floors amid winding narrow lanes deep in the country with goats on the hills all around. The only reason I can't give it a full five is it doesn't go deep enough; the open-air exhibits are small and there's no-one around to explain them. Oh and make no mistake; it is very comfortable and if you have a car then day trips will work out just fine.

We wanted a quiet hotel so we could rest but still enjoy a swim, walks and catching up with friends. This hotel was perfect. The room was comfortable and quiet with lovely views over olive trees. The pool and surrounds were great. We could have a meal almost any time of day and the staff were friendly and helpful. It was only 15-20 minutes by taxi to Heraklion town centre.

Overall it was a very pleasant experience. However, breakfast was very basic but the restaurant food was good, though a limited menu. The Greek night was misleading and offered only one option which was very expensive as far as food is concerned. The rooms were very basic and some of the site needed some work doing on it, but generally good. The swimming pool was excellent, by far the best feature. They do open the hotel to the public for parties etc and on two occasions this meant for a very crowded and loud swimming pool, not really what we were hoping for when we opted for a quiet 'village' experience. For anyone with disability issues this place would be a huge struggle... lots of steps. The hotel is a distance from the town and a good beach and the taxis were expensive. The staff were generally helpful and friendly but wifi was only available in the reception. Though we had a lovely rest, I wouldn't go again and wouldn't recommend any friends to go. As a family we made it work, but in truth it didn't really live up to the advertised expectation. It's a shame, with a bit of TLC this place could rock. The setting is wonderful and the idea excellent... but it didn't deliver. If they could run a 'cheap' shuttle bus to the city, that would be a huge win for them too.

Cute but needs updating.

We stayed here two nights. The highlight of this place is the large, beautiful pool with the scenic backdrop. The service was friendly and the dinner/lunch was OK. I wouldn't stay here again though for a variety of reasons- 1) wi-fi didn't work AT ALL in our room, 2) The seating outside where wi-fi did work wasn't comfortable, 3) the TV didn't work AT ALL in our room, which wouldn't normally bother me but since there was no wi-fi it bothered me 4) too many steps... normally this wouldn't bother me either but as our whole trip in Greece had been sight-seeing with lots of walking and steps, it annoyed me that I had to climb more at the hotel 5) included breakfast is marginal at best, it seemed much of it was old and stale.

The hotel caters to both families and youngsters with a good price value. It offers a restaurant and bar by the swimming pool. The rooms are nice, in particular the bathrooms. I was day for only a night but despite being out of the city it is self-sufficient to stay for longer and one can always take a taxi to the town for dinner or sight-seeing. I would certainly stay here again.
One negative is the WiFi doesn't reach beyond the reception and restaurant, which is fine as you meet others checking their phones in the common area.

Quiet out of the way place, away from it all

I stayed four days, and it was the perfect choice for me. I travelled alone and wanted somewhere where I could sleep and read without feeling like a freak for being a single woman in my own. It was fab, staff were quite friendly and helpful and it was lovely and quiet. I had half board as I knew that I wasn't going to be out and about, eating elsewhere. The food was ok but there is no choice for dinner when you're half board, so if you don't fancy that or you're a foodie, jusr have breakfast and order from the main menu.

Rooms are large and simple but clean, with a fridge and good air con.

Pool area is lovely, and the whole area is very clean and well maintained.

With the whole village layout it's definitely not you're average hotel but all the better for that and thoroughly recommended if you want a quiet and restful break.

Awesome Place!

Love the feel of authenticity here - so picturesque! Staff are very helpful. The countryside views are stupendous day or night. Goats grazing nearby add to the peacefulness and quiet charm. Loved our large private terrace. This would be my 1st choice any time I come back to Crete.

Like Nowhere You Have Ever Stayed Before!

What a great and cool little hotel. Complete with a museum and all kinds of workshops - this little gem sits perched on top of a hill just outside of Heraklion and has incredible views of the surrounding countryside. Rooms are big and beautiful, mine even had a fireplace! The restaurant/tavern is huge and the service is great! It's not just the fact that you are at a hotel, but that this is a traditional Cretan village with all kinds of things to do - great for kids!

As advertised, this is like staying in a little mountain village. Not fancy, but it feels authentic, so if that's what you're wanting to experience, it's perfect.
The views from the mountain are great. The pool area is amazing. The taverna/restaurant is good too.
You definitely need a car to get there, but we were sorry we only had one night there.

Roamantic mountain retreat

We had a wonderful time staying at this rustic village in the foothills overlooking heraklion.

Our room was accessed via a steep stepped cobbled street appeared to be a small Cretan cottage.
we spent some time wandering the other streets taking Photos as it was very picturesque

the pool area was often quiet with a few other couples which suited us fine

Breakfast was buffet style plenty of it with large urns of coffee and tea

In the evening we ate at the Taverner the food was good and great value.

The village has a Cretan night on Wednesdays which was very entertaining and obviously an excursion event which we as residents could benefit from.

a car is a must to get about and we made use of our hire car our sat nav got us to wherever we wanted sometimes up through the mountains which was interesting.
all in all we had a fabulous stay

Worst hotel stay ever

It was the worst hotel experience ever. We were so disappointed. When we arrived we were given a room with three beds in two different room and the second room with no a/c in one room and no fan.

When we complained at this is at 1 am in the morning we were moved in to a room with three beds with a malfunctioning a/c.

Rooms were so depressing with no emptied at all. The bed sheets are so dirty and the bathroom unclean.

Then to top it up the breakfast was absolutely lousy slate food and rancid fruit. And cats in the dinning area.

Other guests were also complaining.

It's a rip-off for £72. This hotel should not be listed on hotel.com

Great rural views w/ traditional Cretan Flavor

This hotel was the highlight of my trip to Crete. The setting and facilities conjure up a traditional Cretan Village with lush greenery, sunny terraces and beautifully decorated rooms equipped with a fireplace and refrigerator, plus balcony. Christina at the restaurant warmly greeted me each morning for a sumptuous breakfast and provided wonderful advice on local specialties and wine. I was greeted each morning by the sound of sheep bells in the valley below. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to savor the traditional flavor of Crete. I enjoyed my stay as a solitary traveler, but would not hesitate to recommend this hotel for a family with young children where they could enjoy the open spaces and the cats.

Super friendly staff and a lovely hotel!

My boyfriend and I stayed for a week here and didn't want to leave! I can't thank the staff enough for all the help; they were so friendly and made the stay so much better. The \"village\" of the hotel is stunning, and our room was cleaned everyday. I would say that renting a car could be useful as it is far away from many excursions, however we took a taxi and it wasn't too expensive (it actually worked out cheaper getting a taxi than it would to hire a car for the week). To get into the city centre of Heraklion it cost around 25 euros (one way), and to the beach, Agia Pelagia (highly recommend) it cost 27 euros (one way). I really enjoyed my stay and would recommend it to anyone who needs a lovely relaxing stay.

Great place!

Great place! We got in late into Heraklion airport and took a taxi to Arolithos. It was a quick 20 minutes and the owner was still waiting for us at reception at 11:30pm!!!

Breakfast was nice, the pool was lovely, and the beds were comfy. Clean room. Friendly staff. Beautiful facilities. There's a bus stop on the main road outside the hotel and bus times are noted at reception, although the bus was a half hour late.

A nice way to start a longer Greek vacation!

Appears to be a family run hotel/village. Very friendly staff, quaint rooms grounds out in the middle of no where. Slept with my windows open so I could fall asleep and wake up to sounds of nature. We changed our planned early departure so we could spend time exploring the grounds. Would have loved staying another night or two because it was so pleasant and relaxing

Experience of a lifetime! A hidden gem!

Well, what a pleasant surprise! We chose this hotel based on price, as we were flying out the next day, and being just 20 mins away from the airport was ideal.
It is truly a village. I was expecting a hotel, or pension within a village, however the hotel IS THE VILLAGE! All the houses and rooms throughout the village are the rooms for guests, and the gardens and surrounding views were amazing.
There is no supermarket nearby, except for a small shop within the village, so bring your supplies.
Our room was wonderful! Spacious, clean and charming. Real wood-burning fireplace in the corner, and with Breakfast included for 49., it was a steal.
I read some reviews where people had complained that it did not live up to their \"4 star\" expectations... Well, fall back in time, and picture yourself in a Cretian village, 50 years ago, but with clean bathrooms!
Staff were very friendly and accommodating. Be sure to bring your camera!
A/C included in the price, which was great, as many other Hotels charge extra for it. I think next time I travel, I will take the 'Toshiba' remote from home, and bypass the extra charges!
The Village is a 'recreation' of a traditional village, but extremely well done.
It is not Cheezy, tacky or 'Disney-like'. It is the result of a Family's vision, which has developed into a little Zanadu. (Paradise!)

Unser Aufenthalt in diesem wunderbaren Hotel auf Kreta war einfach unvergesslich! Das Hotel liegt in einer traumhaften, ruhigen Lage in den Bergen, umgeben von spektakulären Ausblicken und der friedlichen Natur. Diese Kulisse bietet eine perfekte Auszeit vom hektischen Alltag und lädt zur Entspannung ein.

Besonders hervorheben möchten wir das unglaublich freundliche Personal. Jeder Mitarbeiter war stets hilfsbereit, zuvorkommend und hat unseren Aufenthalt noch angenehmer gemacht. Man spürt die herzliche Atmosphäre, die das Team schafft, und das trägt enorm zu einem rundum positiven Erlebnis bei.

Das Essen war ebenfalls ein Highlight. Die Auswahl war äußerst reichhaltig und jede Mahlzeit war ein Genuss. Viele traditionelle kretische Spezialitäten - jeden Tag etwas anderes - alles war frisch zubereitet und einfach köstlich.

Der Pool des Hotels war riesig und bot ausreichend Platz zum Schwimmen und Entspannen. Wir haben die Zeit am Pool sehr genossen und konnten uns wunderbar erholen.

Insgesamt haben wir unseren Aufenthalt in diesem Hotel sehr genossen. Wir haben uns rundum wohlgefühlt und sind begeistert von der Kombination aus atemberaubender Natur, hervorragendem Service und köstlichem Essen. Wir können es kaum erwarten, wiederzukommen!

Le lieu atypique est super, la piscine, la terrasse pour le petit déjeuner, incroyable !
Les chambres sont grandes, spacieuses avec balcon.
Le bémol est sur la literie de qualité moyenne et la propreté des chambres qui n'est pas au rendez-vous.
De plus, c'est la première fois que j'ai le montant de la taxe de séjour aussi haut (10€/pers et par jours) à la fin de voyage.
Un gros plus pour le cadre très beau, la piscine, et le petit musée.

Nonostante fosse un villaggio di un certo livello abbiamo avuto il bagno inutilizzabile - facendo la doccia usciva l'acqua dalla grata del pavimento e non scendeva dalla vasca. Al momento del pagamento ho dovuto pagare 14 euro per tassa locale che, a mio avviso, avevo già pagato a mezzo Expedia ma, anche mostrando la ricevuta, mi hanno detto di sentire Expedia perchè non capivano il motivo del doppio pagamento...assurdo!

Insgesamt din sehr schönes, traditionelles Hotel welches einer traditionellen Siedlung nachempfunden wurde. Die Aussicht ist sehr einladend und das Personal ausgesprochen zuvorkommend.

Allerdings ist zu erwähnen, dass des öfteren große Hochzeitsfeiern in der Anlage stattfinddn, weshalb es nachts sehr laut werden kann. Parkplätze sind dann ebenfalls keine mehr zu finden.

Trotzdem insgesamt empfehlenswert, wenn man bei nächtlichem Lärm gut schlafen kann und auf Parkplätze direkt vor dem Hotel keinen Wert legt.

Traditionnel et tupique ce village hotel cretois. Nous avons adoré les ruelles, la place du village et sa chapelle, c'est magnifique. Arrivée tardive, repas pret dans notre frigo de chambre, genial! Confort simple mais on ne manque de rien, clim frigo salle de bain privée avec douche. Petit dejeuner tres copieux à l ombre sous les arbres de la terrasse surplombant la piscine. Tres calme. Nous avons assisté a un mariage tipyque c etait incroyable avec musiciens.

originale l'idea di creare un villaggio greco, ma mi dava un senso di poco pulito le stanze avevano il pavimento in pietra come i bagni con pietra e igienici vecchi e rumorosi, gli infissi e gli arredi erano vecchi, la piscina non troppo pulita e si sentiva un odore terribile all'ingresso per i cassonetti della spazzatura prorpio nel piazzale, anche per tutta la struttura non si respirava odore e aria di pulito

L endroit est typique, organisé comme un village ancien avec taverne et musee , les chambres sont rustiques et pourraient etre confortables malheureusement nous avons eu une sdb dans un etat sommaire, la douche etait cassée et nous avons dû nous doucher au tuyau, les toilettes fuyaient ce qui laissait une marre d eau. Le ptt dejeuner etait tres basique et industriel

Hotel atypique et vraiment génial ! Les chambres ne sont pas les plus modernes et confortables mais l'hôtel propose des soirées musicales et dansantes typiques Crétoises vraiment top, le restaurant est très bon et peu cher, le personnel est juste adorable, et on peut visiter un musée traditionnel, des maisons typiques, des ateliers d'artisans, une boutique, etc. Je recommande vraiment pour ceux qui cherchent autre chose que les grandes chaines d'hôtels alignés en bord de mer !!!

ruhige schöne oase

es ist sehr schön, ruhig und alles ist mit dem uato leicht erreichbar. wir waren da am anfang unserer reise nach der landung eine nacht, dann dürfen wir die koffer da lassen und für zwei tage nach santorini fahren und wieder da übernachten. am ende unserer reise sind wir da wieder zwei nächte gewesen, un den vorletzten tag waren wir in den museen in heraklion. (und im pool :) .

Cet hôtel est en fait un hameau dans la campagne, chaque maison abritant une chambre. L'endroit a un charme fou. La piscine est sympa, la nourriture est bonne et copieuse, on mange dehors sous les arbres dans un cadre superbe. La chambre était bien climatisée, mais les matelas étaient vraiment durs.

Accès facile pour l’aéroport. Nous n’avons pas apprécié de stationner loin de la chambre lors de notre arrivée car il y avait une rencontre d’une centaine de personnes pour le déjeuner (tout l’après -midi jusqu’en soirée) De plus, il y avait beaucoup de poubelles pleines dans le stationnement à côté de l’entrée, mauvaises odeurs...

Tolle Fotomotive, leider nicht wirklich mehr

Die Anlage schaut auf Fotos echt toll aus, allerdings ist das gesamte Gelände recht uneben und es gibt viele Stufen und Treppen. Zudem sind alle Stufen verschieden hoch,breit etc. und der Naturstein ist recht glatt, was das Ganze recht unwegsam macht.
Ältere oder gehbehinderte Menschen sollten sich einen Aufenthalt dort gut überlegen.
Das Essen in der Taverne war nur unterer Durchschnitt, der Service aber freundlich. Die Zimmer wirkten doch schon arg in die Jahre gekommen, in der Dusche war z.B. keine Halterung für die Brause vorhanden, überall rostige Stellen. Beonders schade war, dass der eigentlich hübsche Balkon nicht zu benutzen war, da sich dort Tauben niedergelassen hatten, die alles voller Taubendreck machten.
Wir wussten zwar, dass dort auch vers. Veranstaltungen, wie griechische Hochzeiten stattfinden, allerdings hätte ich mir nie vorstellen können wie lange und laut diese sein können. Fast bis 4 Uhr morgens spielte die Band griechische Folkore, die für viele doch sehr gewöhnungsbedürftig sein dürfte. Und das, mehrmals während unserer Zeit dort.
Hübsch gestaltet sind die Räume der \"Museumshäuser\" und auch der Pool und die Pflanzen haben einen positiven Eindruck hinterlassen. Tagesbesuch ja, Ferienaufenthalt nein ist unser Fazit nach dieser Woche.

Rustikal Zentralkreta beste Lage nach West und Ost

Schöne mediterane rustikale Anlage. Einfache und saubere Zimmer mit DU/WC Balkon, tägliche Reinigung.
Im Winter: Toller Kamin zur Selbstbedienung. Holz spottbillig an der Rezeption.
Wer nicht selber heizen will hat es auch gut! Klimanlage von kalt bis ganz warm einstellbar. Mehr geht nicht.
Frühstück: eher sehr sparsames Angebot ohne Bufett (im Winter). Extrawünsche an das sehr freundliche Personal einfach mitteilen.(in englisch)! Dann gibt´s auch einiges mehr! Aber Zeit einplanen: keiner hat es hier eilig!
Gaststätte / Tarverna: gute preiswerte griechische Küche, Getränke eher teuer.
Hinweis: Ohne Mietwagen schlecht erreichbar. Kein Ausgangspunkt für Badeurlauber!

Schöne Anlage in den Bergen, für Touristen.

Schöne Anlage in den Bergen, wo sich sonst kein Tourist sehen lassen würde. Nur Show nicht authentisch. Schön gemacht mit Läden und Restaurants. Luxus beschränkt sich auf Swimmingpool. Zimmer sehr authentisch einfach. Bad/WC erinnern an Ostanatolien. Essen reichlich, gut bis befriedigend. Empfang freundlich, Service durchschnittlich. Größere Gesellschaften feiern gerne hier, auch bis tief in die Nacht.Dafür sind dann die Zimmerpreise zu hoch.

Sehr relaxed, die Anlage ist einem kretischem Dorf nachempfunden, geeignet für große Feste. Jeden Mittwoch Folkloreabend mit unglaublich virtuosem Folkstänzern. Viele verspielte Katzenbabys machen Spaß. Mit Glücl begegnet man einem Pfau. Frühstück und Essen im Restaurant mittelmäßig.
