We are deeply disappointed in our stay at Hotel Fori Imperiali, so much so that we stayed only one of three booked nights. We have travelled internationally extensively and have never had an experience as abhorrent as this one, nor have we ever left a hotel due to any issues.
Among a number of problems, our primary concern was a horrible sewage smell that was noticeable throughout the hotel but particularly strong within our room. We have travelled extensively in Rome and have never experienced such an awful smell in any of our hotels, whether in the lobby or in the room itself. The smell was so bad we felt physically sick upon entering our room. Upon searching reviews, we noticed another Google review made two weeks prior to our stay experienced the same issue.
More generally, we were disappointed in the overall cleanliness of the hotel and our room. Whether it was bugs on the floor or a dirty pillow case, the cleanliness standards of the hotel were immensely disappointing. And finally, we were woken by a fire alarm twice in the one night we stayed.
The hotel declined to refund us for the two nights which we were unable to stay due to the smell. Even still, it was such an awful experience that spending the money to stay at another nearby hotel was absolutely worth it in order to salvage the rest of our trip.
I would strongly encourage other travellers to consider other options for their stay - be warned!
