The check-in was quick and smooth. There is private parking area next to the entrance, which can get full when it’s a peak season and property is fully booked.
Nice garden has large number of tables and chairs, which are used for the morning breakfast, but can’t be used in the evening to have a snack, only for wine and cheese.
Pool has large number of loungers, which honestly need replacing, for they are very used and uncomfortably stretched.
The standard double room is quite small and has no refrigerator , although there is a cabinet for it. Room is in need of renovation, which will occur in September.
Air Conditioner works great, which is awesome when it’s over 32deg outside.
Short walk to town, convenient location of the hotel.

We are really happy with the accommodation provided. Élégant room decor from the Napoléon era period. We got a welcoming arrival by the reception and was so helpful in an issue I had which has been resolved prompt. Used the hotel pool in their garden area. Enjoyed a great breakfast too. Strong WiFi signal and free parking. We have a memorable stay.

This is a charming hotel which has been acquired fairly recently by the owners on which they are clearly working very hard to make a perfect place to stay. Free on site parking is a real bonus.
Our room had been recently decorated. The bathroom had both a bath and a shower. Super aircon too! We even had a few english television channels!

In reception, there is a water dispenser where you can fill your water bottle with chilled sparkling or still water whenever you wish - we thought this was a really thoughtful gesture , particularly as it was so hot at the time of our visit.

The staff are friendly and attentive. We particularly enjoyed meeting the african grey parrot.

Highly recommended hotel, would stay there again if we were visiting.

If six stars were available , I would happily give that rating! This lovely mansion has been transformed into an elegant hotel. Our room was spacious and comfortable, with great amenities. Breakfast is great and served either outdoors on the patio or in the lovely dining room. There is a cocky grey parrot who appears in the morning, however he would not deign to talk with me.

The best thing about the hotel is their manager and staff. Courteous, friendly and enthusiastic about making sure the hotel service is extra special!

We will stay here again!

Nice older HOTEL in good location

Lovely old house. Comfort room with pretty furnishing in good condition. Very welcoming front desk staff. Unfortunately there was construction going on in the adjacent room on the morning of our departure, which was quite loud, but it did not begin until 9 AM. the only other negative is that the parking and courtyard Are all gravel and rocks and that it is impossible to roll suitcases. Our language is very heavy, and I had to carry it.

Really nice older property with large rooms, huge garden and nice pool. Breakfast very nice, local cheeses and nice pastries, and you can have it outside if you like. Great location easy walking distance to the old town and lots of places to eat.

This hotel is not a 3 star. The bedding while clean was stained. The towels are old and we had to ask for toilet paper! The garden is pretty but useless as you can not even take a coffee out there. The coffee was poor and expensive. The Manager Fabien, he was very pleasant but could not make up for the bad state of the hotel.

Les Marechaux was a tremendous discovery. Amazing historic building, warm welcome, comfortable rooms and sumptuous breakfast, it’s also just a 10 minute walk from the old town of the delightful Auxerre, with its bars full of delicious Burgundy and enticing restaurants. It was tremendously good value too! I’ll be back in the summer and enjoyed every minute.

The room in this nice family run hotel was a nostalgic reminder of my stays in France years ago. It was nicely furnished, even if a little worn in places. The hostess was charming and helpful at check in. Unfortunately her husband was the opposite at breakfast the next morning, punishing us with attitude and impatience at our not being French.

Aging and in need of updating

Friendly service and free coffee does not make up for dusty rooms (1/4\" of dust on the baseboards) and flies buzzing overnight even though we never opened the windows. The deluxe room was small (though well laid out) but needed updating. The walls were scuffed and the carpet was stained and worn. The flies were a real annoyance. Where did they come from? Were they breeding in the room or did the maids open the windows while we were gone and let them in? We had at least one every day of our four day stay.

Staff were nice. it was 27C when we arrived but the centrally controlled air conditioning remained firmly off, we asked. The room was too hot, I slept with the window open, helped a little, but I picked up a few insect bites. Breakfast was alright, but food covers to keep the flies off would be good.

Beautiful room in a historic building

Loved the charm of this hotel. Period building & rooms. As others noted, there is a fair amount of street noise if your room overlooks the avenue. I’m a heavy sleeper so it wasn’t a problem. It’s a 10 minute walk to restaurants and beyond to get to the heart of Auxerre attractions. While I loved the property and staff on their own, I would rethink the location if I wanted to explore more of Auxerre on foot over several days.

Wonderful front desk staff; was able to check in early. Easy parking. Room was small, but comfortable and spotless. Beautifully decorated. Nice bathroom. Heat/climate control worked well and appeared new. Our room faced the street...>was a bit noisy. Would ask for a room on the non-street side.

We don't eat breakfast, but no hassle getting just (reasonably priced) coffee.

A charming old fashioned hotel

Nice old building, at the edge of the old town.
We arrived late and stayed only one night, so we did not have the time to explore the garden.
Our Privilege Double Room had a Marechal name as all the others, but it was peaceful, big and nicely decorated in an old fashioned way.
Good quality bed.
The bathroom is in need of redecorating.
Excellent breakfast, nicely served and containing tasty local produce.

Stayed overnight on a trip through France. A very comfortable traditional style French hotel. The town's restaurant area is just a short stroll down the street from the hotel. A good choice for a very comfortable stay, and of course, the nearby vineyards.

Bed comfotable and large room and very large bathroom but badly planned and laid out. Very little wardrobe space and no drawers or shelving to put stuff. Had to keep most clothes in suitcase. Bathroom large with good bath and plenty of space for a separate shower but non-existent. Shower attachment on bath but no high level holder so had to hold shower head making it difficult to have relaxing shower.
Although room appeared clean, found a pair of boxer shorts behind curtains, so more care reaquired.

NOT A 4 STAR HOTEL

Friendly welcome on arrival. Access to the upper floors via a very small lift that needs a good service. Rooms are given a name and not a number, so you have to look at each door to find your room. Although the hotel was very empty during our one night stay, and plenty of rooms vacant, we were given the smallest room on the first floor. A bedside table on only one side of the bed. Problem when both people wear glasses. Could not gain access to the small bathroom if other person was working at the desk. Out of the 3 lamps within the room, only one worked. Air Conditioning controlled via the reception, so AC came on in the morning when not required or requested. Space between wardrobe and mini-bar was for suitcase stand, but could not open out stand as space too small. Room basically suited for only one person. Bathroom was 'L' shaped with only about 50cm between whb and wc to gain access into bath. No high level hook to use shower, nor shower curtain. WiFi useless at first as it would cut out every 5 minutes, until complained. Better later in the evening. Certainly not a 4 Star hotel - 3 at the most.

Restful Interlude

This hotel met our needs, which were modest. It is located in Auxerre which is not a major tourist mecca, but is in the heart of wine country and near some great sights (Vezelay, Fontenay). Having convenient parking made it a good fit also. The room was large and very nicely appointed. Friendly staff. The location is not in the heart of town, but a five minute walk gets you there. Not much going on, but the town is charming.They have a breakfast which we did not take. We like to stroll to the nearest cafe and be part of the culture. Our side trip to the beautiful town of Chablis and tour of a wine cellar in the heart of town was a highlight. Burgundy in general was just beautiful. Worth the drive from wherever you are going.

Good hotel with helpful staff

This was my 2nd stay in this hotel in 6 years. I found it to be very adequate; nice buffet breakfast at a reasonable price (for Europe), large beds, and a unique atmosphere in this old mansion of sorts. I would prefer the shower head to not be handheld, but the bathroom was very nice otherwise. Bottom line--a nice place to stay when passing through, and as I recall from my previous stay, a short walk to the downtown area of Auxerre.

Very Charming. Even the least expensive room was roomy with a large bathroom. There was a sitting area in the room as well. The front desk was extremely friendly and helpful. Free Parking. Das Haus hat eine interessante Historie, Zimmer stilgerecht eingerichtet, wir waren angenehm überrascht, auch vom Frühstücksraum. Jetziger Hotelier hat Haus im Februar übernommen, noch in der Sanierungsphase. Geht man dem Pfeifen nach, trifft man Melchior auf seinem Baum, ein Graupapagei. Parkplatz am Haus, kostenlos, Altstadt fussläufig, Haus empfehlenswert.
