This property was everything we could ask for. Upon arrival, Brian, the front desk manager gave us a wonderful briefing explaining everything well and the property has a nice beach an easy walk in one direction where the sunset view is incredible. Head out the other direction just a short drive (or a long walk) and you have Carillo, an incredible beach that is lined with palm trees and so wide and expansive it almost seems private. The hotel room was great and the breakfast was perfect, served around the pool area each morning. A very relaxing, accomodating place, I will definitely stay at again when visiting that area

Large spotless room with plenty of space for belongings and comfortable bed. Private porch with chairs and table. Nice pool with chaise lounges and tables to eat surrounding it. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. Because we needed to leave at 5am they kindly made up breakfast boxes for us the night before. Short walk to a lovely beach where we swam and snorkeled. Wonderful hotel!

I arrived late after a canceled flight and the staff write us a very informative message telling us about the room and restaurants in the area that may be open late. Besides that, room was spotless, staff was great, breakfast was delicious. Location can't be beat.

Staff was extremely kind.
The room was refurbished and clean, given that the overall property is slightly outdated.
There was a rave in a nearby property that started at 10pm on a Friday and was still going on at 2pm the following day.
While the hotel mentioned that they called the police, the result was a noisy night that had serious impact in the ability of guests to sleep.

Cozy small hotel right in the middle of the forest. You will be able to see howler monkeys, white-faced monkeys, multiple species of crabs, iguanas, coatis and squirrells.

The hotel is in a walking distance to South Samara Beach, and 3 minute drive to Carrillo Beach (highly recomended).

We met the owner at the waterfalls in La Fontera, we drove to Samara the same night and had a wonderful stay! Wonderful staff, the breakfast included is amazing great food! Beautiful place and I felt that I was staying at a luxurious hotel. If you’re in Samara, please stay here! You will not regret it. Rooms are spacious and AC works great. Everyone from the security guard, the hosts and cook were great!!

The Hideaway is great. The staff is wonderful, the proper is beautiful and the food is delicious. Our only issue was slow toilet flushing but that was minor compared to all of the wonderful things we found at the Hideaway. There’s a very sweet iguana that hangs by the patio. We named him Esteban and enjoyed seeing him each morning.

This place was a great choice, 2min walk from Samara beach, staff was friendly, they had onsite food available, very nice bar beverages options by the pool. Pool was kid friendly with some stairs and nice shade during the day. Room had nice A/C and very comfortable beds, was very spacious and had very nice seating area. This is a very small hotel on beautiful grounds with the ocean a couple minutes walk away. The staff is incredible and everyone knows you after a few days! Peaceful and relaxing. A car would have been helpful to get around. Food was very good and inexpensive.

The staff at this hotel take great pride in providing the best possible service. We met the owner who was lovely as well. It is a small hotel with about 10-12 rooms so never crowded. It almost felt as though we were at a vacation house with friends. The pool was refreshing and the food and beverages delicious. I highly recommend the mango daiquiri. Our room was very large and comfortable with a covered patio. The grounds are beautiful and secluded. Close to 2 beaches and close to Samara as well. I highly recommend you stay here.

A car is needed to get to town or carrillo beach which is best beach nearby . Good food options in town less busy tourists than other places in cr . Car parking with bigger vehicle can be a challenge if full . Internet weak in rooms when all units are full . On site food was great.

The Hideaway was beautiful, The staff is incredible and so helpful and friendly, the food was delicious!! The only downside was the road to get there was REALLY bad, full of deep potholes. It would be nice if the Hideaway and other properties could divide the cost and lay some rocks, or at least fill the really big holes! Other than that, Perfect!!!

Stay here. The staff is amazing and go out of their way to make your accommodations great. The free breakfast is delicious as well as the lunch / dinner which is available. Drinks by the pool are tasty. We saw a monkey family from our room!!! Short walk to the beach which is never crowded. Just ask for Brian who is amazing...

This was a very nice, clean, Costa Rican Hotel for an authentic experience. The air conditioning worked really well. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We enjoyed watching the howler monkeys in the tree across the street and sitting by the pool. The location was a little far from town for walking so it was nice to have a car. It was a really short walk to the beach through a beautiful wooded area. We would stay here again.

Pris: the staff (Maria, Dena, Bryan I remember) is amazing, helpful, caring and customer obsessed. They helped us for everything we needed and had an issue with. They moved us to a new, room, provided us quick things we needed to make our stay very good.

The hotel is very well placed to have a quiet stay.

Only cons: the walkable beach has a lot of wood debris from trees and plants. This made we had to use the car to go to either Carillo or Samara main beach which are 3 to 7 minutes by car, so not a big deal.

You’re minutes from Playa Carrillo and Samara beach. We didn’t realize it is about a ten minute drive outside the town of Samara though. Highly recommend Hideaway!

Hideaway Hotel is a wonderful gem in Samara. From the moment we walked in the staff treated us as top-notch guests. Breakfast options were excellent and there is a beautiful beach in walking distance. Rooms are spacious, air-conditioning is ice cold, the water is hot and WiFi is fast. There’s a little pool on property that we did not swim at because we chose to go to the beach. Pool looked clean and nice just a few feet from outdoor breakfast. If you drive three minutes up the road, there is an even more gorgeous beach Playa Carrillo. Go there! – In the low season there’s virtually nobody on the beach. A brief drive into town and there are great dining options.

Everything was way above expectations! Accommodations were top notch. Nick and his staff treated me like family from day one. Maria, Brian, Dariela, Dana, and Nancy are some of the nicest people you could ever meet. The location is perfect and truly is a \"Hideaway\". Felt secluded yet only a short walk to the beach or town. Food was magnificent. I ate at a few other places but they didn't compare to their options and flavors. Highly recommend. I WILL BE BACK!! Hopefully for a longer stay. Thanks to Nick and his team for creating a memory of a lifetime!!

The location was perfect for access to the beach. Sunsets are absolutely fabulous, just a two minute walk to the best viewing spot. We had breakfast each morning with four different options. One afternoon we came back from exploring and decided to just enjoy the pool. It was quiet and relaxing. The staff are really helpful and friendly. Highly recommend!

We chose to stay at the Hideaway Hotel because of its ratings and reviews. As it turned out, these were a most reliable indicator of what to expect from the Hideaway Hotel. We offer this review as an up-to-date review - as of October 2023.

This is a small hotel in a beautiful location, with a fabulous beach and reassuring pricing. Howling monkeys, iguanas and other wildlife 'perform' around the hotel grounds, as expected, daily.

The hotel is immaculately clean. The room we were assigned had 2 queen sized beds, had 2 aspects of windowing, a veranda area overlooking the hotel's swimming pool (good to cool off in) and luscious, well maintained, gardens/grounds. Our bathroom/shower room was of a good size and well laid out. The accommodations do seem to be showing their age a bit; there were a few things in the room that while remaining functional, were broken or were not entirely working as they should (e.g. safe, toilet bowl, door lock, hairdryer).

The staff and community in the area were very friendly. Over the week, we ate at the hotel restaurant 3 times, with no disappointments. They serve reliable, good and tasty food. Any smokers out there should be aware that if you want a smoke, it will have to be out the front of the hotel - off its grounds. It is a $10 taxi ride to the central area of Samara.

Hats off to Nancy, Juan, Mary and Bryan. Having returned home with time to reflect on the way, we feel very well looked after by the small team at Hideaway.

I would give our stay at the Hideaway an 11 out of 10 if I could. The people are amazing. Everyone is super friendly and down to earth. Nelson, Maria, Johnny, were very kind to our 15 year old son and eager to help him with his Spanish. The hotel is just the right size. Pool is refreshing with a nice little waterfall. Food is very good and they offer a wide variety to suit all tastes. Location is excellent, just a short walk to the south end of Samara beach. It is Within walking distance to beautiful Carrillo beach and a short 5 minute drive to downtown Samara. The farmers market on Saturday is worth checking out. Lots of great restaurants in the area. Beach volleyball in front of Olas beachfront restaurant is fun for all, the sushi is very good too. Can’t wait to go back and visit our friends at the Hideaway.

AMAZING STAY!!!

The Hideaway is just that a Hidden Gem!!! We arrived to the Hideaway a couple hours early and our room wasn’t quite ready yet so we chose to have a late lunch there at the hotel and it was AMAZING!!! Fish with Avocado Sauce is a must try!!! By the time we were done eating our room was ready so we checked in. We had drove a couple hours to get there so after the drive and lunch wife and I decided to take a “nap” we laid down on the comfy bed in our quiet, spacious, clean room and woke up 4hrs later. So we got up and went to dinner…at the hotel. Again another great meal but while having dinner everyone at the hotel seemed to know each other and it didn’t take too long before we were included in the convos and everyone on the patio (5 tables) were all chatting as if we were long time friends catching up!!! I found out later that one of the gentleman chatting with us happened to be the owner who we seen several times later that week engaging with us and the guests. It was a great start to end of our trip and those let few days there turned out to be the best part of our 20 days in CR. Carolina at the bar, Dorian working the restaurant, Nick and the rest of the staff have a GREAT thing going on right here. Just a quick 2 min maybe walk to Samara Beach, I can’t wait to go back!!! Oh and one last thing…well 2 actually MANGO MARGARITA and BREAKFAST BURRITO!!!! (You can add bacon…to burrito not margarita)

I had truly such an amazing stay here. The staff members were all very friendly. Breakfast was included and was delicious everyday (we loved their breakfast burrito!). They made us feel welcome providing beach towels, mats, and sunscreen during our stay to leaving us wine glasses bottle opener outside when they knew we were looking for a bottle opener for our wine. The rooms are clean and comfortable with a fully functional A/C. The location is also great as it is about 5 min away from Playa Samara and Playa Carrillo. I can't imagine staying anywhere else!

What an excellent visit ! The Hideaway is open in Samara and the staff there are extra special making up for the closed beaches and stores. Virginia, Maria, and Nancy made sure our stay was the best. They would call and see if restaurants in town were open as well as make reservations. With Samara being sort of shut down it was very quiet and peaceful as well as relaxing. We loved our visit and will return again soon. Give them a try !

I was the first person allowed after the COVID closure, great hospitality, they made sure everything was disinfected. Since I was the only guest in the hotel they made sure I was confortable, they even brought my breakfast to the room.

Spacious Room

Location is close to beach and only walkable to town at low tide. Walk to beach, short drive to Carrillo beach which is very nice

Virginia and her staff run a beautiful hotel. The room was spacious and clean. We had three choices for a freshly prepared breakfast with outstanding fruit plates. The pool is relaxing and the resident iguanas are fun to watch. The beach is only a short walk away and each time we saw howler monkey families in the trees. When we left our passports in the room safe and moved on to our next destination, the staff was contacted and secured our documents until we could drive back the next day. Try the lunch and dinner options too, everything was delicious. Thank you and we hope to visit again one day!

The Hideaway is a lovely hotel that is set apart from the main town of Samara. The grounds are lush. The room was comfortable but had a persistent musty smell that never left. Somthing like wet towels on the furniture from previous guests could have caused that.

Perfect place to end a hectic trip

The reviews were right. What a great place to stay. Each day starting with great breakfast choices and some days accompanied by the local Howler monkeys in the nearby trees. Rooms are clean, comfortable and huge (especially the bathroom). Iguanas on the property keep the mozzies away for the most part. Good options if you decide to stick around for dinner and the brownies are a must at some point in your stay. The mango margarita is dangerously delicious! The staff including Nancy, Maria and Javier, were all brilliant and eager to help when needed though not intrusive. Only down side was lack of tea in the room though that's easily fixed.

If you go to Samara in tthe evening and aren't driving, make sure you have a driver's number so you can get back. The taxi ranks are not dependable and taxi offices don't always answer. Thanks to the biker who took both myself and my wife back and saved us a 4k walk. Never got a chance to say thanks before he sped off.

The staff at the hotel were very friendly and helpful. The layout of the buildings is such that every room was very private. The hotel is a few minutes outside of Samara, so nice and quite. It is only a two minute walk to a beautiful beach with great swimming and stunning sunsets.

The Hideaway was a wonderful place to stay! The rooms are big, clean and nicely furnished, the bed was really comfortable and the staff were wonderful, welcoming and really helpful. The breakfast in the morning was amazing too! We would definitely stay there again and highly recommend it!

Hideaway=paradise

We had an absolutely wonderful time at the Hideaway. Staff are so friendly and kind. Highly recommend the mango margarita and the guacamole is a MUST. The pool area is nice and very relaxing. 1-2 minute walk to the beach. We walked down to Sámara center a couple of times which was great. You must stay here!!

Great place to stay!!!!!

Nice, clean, and very quiet place.Friendly and helpful staff. Iguanas, monkeys, and birds all over. Even saw a crocodile near the beach!!!!! Would stay here again and recommend to all!!!!!
