It's a lovely hotel, with the basic amenities and a good breakfast buffet. WiFi is fast, water pressure is amazing, and the staff cleans your room daily, providing fresh towels. However I don't think they change your bedding unless you explicitly request it.
For the price, you're paying more for the location than hotel room frills. The hotel is in a really good spot, with lovely rooftop views of the Acropolis and the Temple of Olympian Zeus. It's also close to a metro stop and major bus/tram stops. Bonus points for being close to the pickup spot of Key Tours and a drop-off point for other tourist operators and is an ideal base if you want to explore Plaka and other surrounding neighbourhoods. Well-lit and it felt relatively safe to walk around at night.

We had an absolutely wonderful stay at Athens Gate Hotel! The location is unbeatable — literally steps away from the Acropolis entrance and within easy walking distance to the Acropolis Museum, Plaka, Monastiraki, Temple of Zeus, and most major cultural sites. We didn’t need to use public transport at all during our time in Athens.
The room was spotlessly clean, modern, and very comfortable, with great views of the Acropolis from higher floors. Everything felt fresh and well-maintained.
What really made our stay special, though, was the staff. Everyone we met — from reception to housekeeping to breakfast team — was genuinely friendly, helpful, and went out of their way to make us feel welcome. Special thanks for the warm smiles and great local recommendations!

Air conditioning was not available and room was uncomfortably warm. When we called to ask if A/C could be turned on staff said it was not available this time of the year and suggested we open door to balcony to let cool air in. This then caused next problem of car and motor bike noise all night from main busy street below. Our first sleep experience in Greece after international flight was terrible as a result.

Our room was beautiful. If you can get room 701, go for it. The balcony wraps from the front to the back and we had an unobstructed view of Zeus' temple and the Acropolis. The room had a sitting area with two chairs and the bedroom was separate. The only issue I had, and this is because I'm a picky sleeper, it the pillows were a little to full for my liking. I would have preferred a softer feather pillow. Breakfast was delicious and the view is priceless. We ate dinner at the restaurant the night we arrived and it was very delicious, the shrimp pasta was very good. The location of this hotel is also very desirable, with the hop-on-hop off stop about 200 feet away, the Acropolis is a short less than five minute walk, and there's access to the metro system about three minutes walk. Also there are plenty of restaurants and shops just around the corner on the walk to both the metro and Acropolis. We had a wonderful time and the staff were very friendly and helpful. We will definitely be staying here on any future trips.

Everything was absolutely amazing in this hotel the staff was super friendly and knowledgeable. The location was perfect walking distance to shops restaurants you name it. It’s close but as if that wasn’t enough. The hotel room and beds were very comfortable not to mention the amazing buffet breakfast and the staff that serves it. What could be better than greeting each day with a beautiful view of the Acropolis I ask? Maybe ending each evening with a lit view of the Acropolis from the rooftop restaurant! We thoroughly and completely enjoyed our day and can’t wait to go back

It's very loud so be prepared for that. It's on a super busy road with lots of loud traffic. The parking they advertise isn’t ideal. There are a few tiny spaces up front and they say they have some else where but if you have anything bigger than a small car, you cant park your car there. So the parking isn't entirely as advertised but if you're lucky enough to get one of the spots, it's great! We parked right up front and it was wonderful.

A very conveniently located hotel with a good buffet breakfast included. Staff were helpful and room size was good. Noise and busyness to be expected from a central city hotel. A small lift, which takes a while to arrive but we were able to take the stairs! You also need to contact reception to switch on the a/c unit. An amazing view of the Acropolis! We felt we had made a good choice of hotel and would recommend it.

Everything about the Athens gate hotel was great! All the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. Easy walk to plaka, the acropolis, all types of food, the city for buses stop very close. The breakfast buffet is fantastic. Room 501 has perfect view of the temple of Zeus and from the corner of the balcony you can see the Parthenon too. I don't think I'd ever want to stay anyplace else. The only minor thing is few power receptacles and none are dual voltage, only European plugs and none in the bathroom. The balcony door really blocks the traffic noise well. Can't recommend highly enough!

A few days ago, I had an experience at this hotel that left me feeling deeply uncomfortable and unwelcome. When I returned to the property and walked toward the elevator, the same woman who had checked me in suddenly shouted “Miss! Miss!” across the entire lobby. Her tone was loud enough that all the guests seated nearby immediately looked up at me.
When I reached the elevator, she shouted even louder from her desk. Feeling confused and startled, I asked whether she had a question. She responded by asking, “Are you staying at this hotel?”
The manner in which she addressed me felt completely inappropriate. Yelling across a lobby is unprofessional in itself, but shouting such a question — loudly and publicly — made me feel singled out, scrutinized, and embarrassed. It was especially unsettling because I clearly had my room key, was heading to the elevators, and she had personally checked me in just days earlier. The interaction made me feel as though I was doing something wrong, when I was simply returning to my room.
The next day, I brought my partner to speak with her and asked why she had behaved that way. She explained that if she doesn’t recognize someone’s face, she asks whether they are staying at the hotel. However, in all my years of traveling, I have never experienced a staff member — especially someone who is not security — shouting across a lobby to question a guest’s right to be on the property. Close to the Plaka, Acropolis, restaurants, shops etc. The complimentary breakfast buffet was an added bonus with views of the Acropolis. We would stay here again.
