The hotel was located conveniently and within walking distance of many tourist locations. Our room faced the main street so was very noisy when the window was open. The room was clean and comfortable; however, the mattress on the bed was not very comfortable. Have never ate such hard bread and buns as at the continental breakfast. The staff were all very friendly and helpful.

All the personel at the hotel were fantastic. The breakfast was very good. The hotel is old and all the furniture is old, but it is clean and the location is great. It makes you feel nostalgic about the past. It is located near every important site in Rome. The price of the room is very good. I recommend this hotel for everybody that don t want to spend to much money and want to be near the center of Rome in a clean and safe place. I think it was a good choice.

One of the main reasons I picked this hotel is that the description says it has a gym. It doesn’t have a gym and hasn’t for a couple of years. I always stay at hotels with fitness centers. This was a major disappointment. However, the breakfast spread was very good.

Great location, decent room, but AC needs improvement

The hotel is very well located, and the room (and bathroom) was just right for three people. Breakfast was good – the eggs were tasty and the watermelon was delicious!

The reason I didn’t give it 4 stars is because it was extremely hot during our stay, and the air conditioning didn’t work properly. With the heat wave, it was really necessary, and unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to keep the room comfortable.

The furniture in our room was broken. There was no gym as advertised on the Expedia website. Our room was very small and crowded. There was a terrible smell coming out of the bathroom. We were only given one key and the only way to lock the room was with it, I did not feel safe leaving someone in the room with the door locked, it’s a fire hazard. I called Expedia immediately and spent a lot of time trying to try to switch and because I prepaid I am still trying to get my refund .

I felt a bit unsafe with only a wobbly key lock on my door and no fob for the front door but the front desk staff are there 24hours a day and ensure no one enters who isn’t checked in.
House keeping does a good job. There is no dust and everything is clean. It’s an old building though that needs upgrading. Bedroom wallpaper was peeling and had a mildew smell. The bidet had a sink faucet and the sink had a bidet faucet!

The property was not well maintained. The first room we stayed in had ants comimg out of the bath tub, sink and wall. We asked to move and they sent someone to \"clean\" the ants which was a sysphian task as there is defintely a colony in the wall. Ultimately on day two we asked to be moved again and they agreed. There was one light switch to control your room. The tub we had had grime and rust over the jets. The cleaning services did there best but you are renting a room that has not had appropiate maintenance or remodeling.

The second room we stayed in was much improved which would have been hard not to as we moved from a room with bugs to a still semi-functional, poor motel room.

Again one light switch for the main room and one for the bath. This room had only a shower but still had peeling wall paper. There was no air conditioner in the second room and the refrigerator does not work - our infant's milk spoiled. There were holes in the door to the bathroom.

While staff were friendly and breakfast was adequate, we have stayed in cheap motels that were better maintained and offerred more than this \"four star\" hotel. To add insult to injury, cancellation fees would have been for two nights totaling more than 700 Euros.

Please stay somewhere else in Rome. The location is not worth cleaning ants off your clothes and the poor quality.

The noise from the road was terrible.The hotel would need updating. The room did not have enough electrical plugs sockets. There was a kettle in the room which was great , but no plug socket beside it . The net curtains which were supposed to be white were grey. Disappointing, I would not consider it a 4 star hotel.

This is the absolutely worst hotel I ever been into!
For sure it needs to be reinstated from 4 stars hotel! Where do I start, from the front desk reception that can’t help you with anything because poor employee is the only one working! (Cheap owner need to hire more employees) also no helper to get your luggage to the room because the elevator is the smallest elevator you can imagine to the point that only one person and 2 bags can barely fit in it.
The room is cold and dirty, the bathroom is not heated, you need to keep the bathroom door open because it’s so cold, the bathroom has a window to the street that is not sealed, it leaks cold and noises from the street, so you need to choice here; are you ok with cold, or street noise! The shower is very tiny, don’t be fooled by the pictures.
Everywhere in the room you look at corners, it’s either rusted, falling apart or really dirty!
Not let’s talk about the breakfast, no omelette, food is really really cold ,, I am not exaggerating!

If you read my review, do yourself a favor and DO NOT STAY HERE, go spend a little more and get a peace of mind.

Front desk very helpful and staff for breakfast excellent. Location perfect to move around Rome and with walking distance to restaurants. I love their top garden where you can relax and really feel in Rome. Rooms a little updated but it defenetly gives you the Rome vibe.
I will definitely recommend this hotel it will make your stay very comfortable. You can walk to st. Peter basilica less then 15 minutes

Tuve mala suerte q en check in me atendieran un poco de mala gana, con las personas antes de mí fueron amables, nunca me explicaron nada, solo me dieron la llave y basta. Habitación muy pequeña con camastro de resortes, se duerme regular.

La paredes, se escucha cuando alguien entra/sale de otra habitación es entonces probable q te estés despertando a cada rato.

La habitación solo tenía tres tomas de corriente, de las cuales 2 estaban ocupadas por el frigobar y lámpara de noche, en el que quedaba libre estaba en el baño y no funcionaba, tuve que desconectar la lampara para poder usar ese contacto. Si pretendes ir a trabajar estando en tu habitación ¡Olvídalo! No hay espacio, y para conectar laptop te llevar una extensión, xq la toma de corriente más cercana es donde está el frigo. En mi habitación el AC nunca dejo de hacer ruido, no importa si lo tienes como AC o ventilador. La TV solo tenía dos canales (38 y 52), de los cuales solo había audio. Nunca hubo imagen. Estuve dos noches y dado que sudo mucho casi me acabé el Papel de baño, al día siguiente no me volvieron a poner y tuve que ocupar los Kleenex. Desayuno medianamente aceptable.

La verdad x el € q pagué está mucho mejor Casa Ferie Domus Helena, (€2.00 mas) habitación más grande, AC no hace ruido, la cama muy cómoda,baño más espacioso. No tienen frigobar, pero si quieres bebida fría, tienes a una cuadra una tienda de conveniencia, las habitaciones tienen caja fuerte, el desayuno está buenísimo. Te atienden de lujo.

Let’s face it! You don’t spend much time in your hotel when in Rome due to there being so much to go out to see and do so therefore a plush hotel I might opt for in another place is not needed in Rome. The Genio is a place I’ve gone back to on numerous occasions. Location is amazing! The beautiful Piazza Navona just round the corner. The Vatican and St Peter’s in easy walking distance. The wonderful Campo di fiori just through the Navona and over the road.
Trastevere with all of its competitively priced restaurants just across the Tiber so need I go on? This hotel if I’m entirely honest is tired but I dread some conglomerate coming in with funds to shake it up because then this convenient hotel with its wonderful location making it accessible for everything will be priced out of the market place for most. When I say tired it is still immaculately clean!!! It offers a good breakfast with all you could need served by lovely staff. The breakfast room is on the roof with amazing views of Rome even from inside. The view of St Peter’s basilica is breathtaking as is the pantheon and other sites. I love the Genio and when you’re ready to go home you can book the hotel Mercedes’ at reception to take you to the airport, even better in the summer with its comfort and air conditioning which costs no more than a city taxi and you just have to fall out the door into the car. Every time I go I think ‘I hope it’s still here in the same capacity the next time I’m in Rome’

Our room had a terrace with a view of the street below. The 6th floor opened to a roof top terrace that you can enjoy a cappuccino in the morning with a spectacular view of the city or sit up there in the evening with a bottle of wine and a spectacular night view of the city. Location is perfect. Close to everything. The hotel itself is not in the best condition. The bathroom door wouldn’t close and when more forcefully pushed, got stuck. Had to be left open for the stay instead. Took two days to figure out how to get breakfast as the options are not presented and the server while nice, seemed very overworked.

I think saying that this is a 4 star hotel is misleading. It might have been that standard in the past but is very worn now. The lift is unreliable and the rooms are dated, not in the best condition.

Initially we were in an un-air conditioned room which wasnt ideal with the heat in Rome during late June! We asked several times for a solution, even a fan, and eventually we were moved to a room with air con. The shower was in poor condition and didn't drain properly.

Breakfast is simple but nice enough; croissant, eggs (cold), bread, yoghurt, coffee and juice.

The massive plus point of this place is the location, couldn't have asked for a better position between Piazza Navona, Pantheon etc and then to the Vatican the other way. The terrace is beautiful and offers 360° views across Rome. You can see all the major sites but especially clear views of the Vatican.

Staff were friendly enough too.

Gym is non-existent. Unsure if this is because of covid.

The situation of this hotel is perfect - just across the river from the Vatican and around the corner from Piazza Navona. You can walk everywhere. The hotel does not have a restaurant but does provide a continental breakfast - not the best but it is something. There are some good restaurants just across the road. We had a triple room - the same room that we had on our last visit 6 years ago! It was a good size but the decoration is very tired. The bed is very hard. The bathroom is again a good size but the shower cubicle is tiny and the shower itself was broken so you had to hold the shower head yourself in order to shower. Desperately needs new shower facilities.
Beware if booking through Hotels.com. Your booking confirmation will state that the price INCLUDES taxes. When you pay, you will find that they add further city taxes to your bill as apparently the taxes referred to in the booking are VAT. At the time of check out, the City taxes are applied which can increase the amount you have to pay by quite a lot, depending upon how many in your group and the number of days that you stayed. It does not advise of these further taxes anywhere on your reservation, nor are you advised by the hotel when you check in.

The location is perfect with being in walking distance of many must see sights. I would not hesitate to stay here again. The included breakfast was fine with scrambled eggs being the only hot item. There was a nice selection of pastries along with bread, meats, cheeses, and fresh fruit. If checking out prior to normal breakfast hours, they can have a breakfast box prepared for you. The negatives were there was a lot of sound from the rooms beside me, guests returning very late and not concerned for others who prefer to rise early and avoid lines at the Vatican and such. I had a single twin bed room and am of average build, a person larger would have struggled getting in and out of the shower due to the angle of the doors. There was a shortage of outlets in the room but by unplugging a lamp, I could plug in my phone charger. But again, I would definitely return.

Great location. Great staff. Was able to walk to a lot of main site under 20 minutes. Also, the morning breakfast was simple but good. Rooms were pretty clean but Rome is old so there was some wearing on areas. Shower grout and doors weren't in best shape but I didn't mind. The worst thing was the bed. It was so uncomfortable. It was a spring mattress way past it's prime to the point where you could physically see the concave of the mattress underneath all the blankets.

Location was excellent, very near Piazza Navona and short walk to the Vatican. Lots of restaurants and cafes nearby. However, the hotel is dated and upon arrival when I first walked in I noticed a musty smell. The single room was tiny which I liked but could hear everything in the room next door, loud neighbors, I could hear the alarm on their iphone and the rustling of their purchases being packed into their suitcases. The plumbing must have been located in the wall next to the bed because there was an annoying, constant drip drip drip noise which stopped after a couple of hours. Breakfast was included and adequate. We were charged a total of 18 Euro tax each upon check out for a 3 night stay.

The facade of the hotel looks cosy. When you enter, you will feel a vintage vibe like you travelled in the past. I was received by a friendly gentleman Spiros, at the reception. The room seems okay. I had a fair stay with them. Breakfast is lovely but with limited choices. Staff are lovely and friendly.

Nice staff, but pretty small. I’m 6 ft tall and I didn’t really fit in the bet. My bed was a foldable.
I grew to like it because it gave me a rustic feel.
It’s Super close to the pantheon and piazza Navona and you can walk to both the colosseum or the Vatican in 30 mins if you felt like seeing the city
Our almost forgot the amazing balcony upstairs 👌👌👌
Go to Pam Local get some groceries, that’s a 7 min walk

Location, location, location.

Location was great! Centrally located within 5 minutes to Piazza Navona. Wonderful rooftop view at breakfast. Staff was, without exception, very helpful, courteous and professional. Breakfast was an expanded continental style with scrambled eggs, fruit, and meats/cheeses included. The pastries were varied and fresh. No liquor license but discreet use of BYOB allowed. No other restaurant service in the hotel itself but takeout readily available in immediate vicinity and rooftop is open to guest use after breakfast for those on a budget. We would definitely return. Easy cab or bus access.

Everything about this hotel was perfect the staff are the best they have so much knowledge and are so friendly and give the best advice.

If you are in the 102 or 202 or any number that ends with 2 and near by that room, you are next to a restaurant kitchen so your room will always smell like kitchen. You hear everyone noise, cough, sex, kids craying, the walls are not walls it feels like it. The best and only amazing thing of that place is the location. Halls and rooms are small. I was there solo. If my husband or kids would’ve come they would definitely not wanted to stay a 2nd night. I definitely loved the location

Amazing property, the location couldn't be any better for everything you could possibly want to do. The staff are brilliant and so friendly. Rooms simply but roomy with everything you need,

The views from the breakfast terrace are gorgeous and a perfect way to start your day in this beautiful city.

All of this for a very reasonable price with an excellent shop directly across the street.

Rooms are spotlessly clean. The hotel should be very proud of all of their staff I've not stayed many places where All staff including housekeeping are so friendly.

We are intending to return to Rome with our children and shall be staying here again and I can't wait!

Tired and run down. Terrible bathrooms

Cons: 1. One of our two rooms very mouldy smell. There was a dehumidifier on 24/7 which did not help much and was very loud
2. Toilet terrible flush in both rooms. They did come to fix one of the toilets to a certain extent but flush still poor
3. Shower terrible - shower head almost broken and didn't stay up straight in one room. Was not fixed after asking twice; water leaked around the shower door so that the floor was completely wet after one shower
4. Under the beds was filthy - there was a filthy bed cover under one of the beds - made me wonder if they would shake it out and use for the next person
5. Still has a key to lock and unlock the doors. So have to double check that you turn the key to lock the door when leaving or after entering the room
6. Not close to a metro (but metro system is pretty sparse in Rome anyway)
Pros: 1. Rooftop especially for breakfast. Breakfast itself was pretty ordinary
2. Front desk and breakfast lady nice
Overall, this hotel is tired and run down. It is certainly not a 4 star. Because it is 4 stars, we had to pay a city tax of 6 euro/person over 10 years old/night (city tax based on the star rating). That was an extra 150 euros for our stay!

This hotel is simply in the best location in Rome and is reasonably priced. Sure, it isn't the most modern, but the facilities are good and all of the staff are very friendly and helpful. This is the second time I've stayed here and I will stay here again in the future as I don't think you can beat it for location or price.

Breakfast on the rooftop was the highlight for us as you get beautiful view of Rome. Room are small as in most places but is sufficient, beds were firm and good for sleep. Staff at the desk were very helpful with extra requests like printing train ticket, extra ice for making a cold pack to treat my wife's knee pain. Excellent location as well

Hotel genio is excellent.

Brilliant hotel. Friendly staff. Comfy large rooms. Well priced. Breakfast was very good. Terrace was a great addition. Honestly. Only the air con could be improved as it was a bit slow. That could have been us though. Staff are excellent and gave us discounts on local areas. Recommend ditirambo as a restaurant nearby. Very happy with genio. Will stay here again!

THE PROPERTY IS REALLY NEGLECTED. EVERYTHING IS VERY OLD EXCEPT FOR THE SHEETS AND MATTRESSES.
THE CURTAINS ARE DUSTY, THEY STILL HAVE VERY VERY OLD RUGS IN MANY ROOMS, WHICH SMELL. EXCEPT FOR ONE LADY AND TWO GENTLEMEN, THE STAFF IS NOT FRIENDLY OR HELPFUL.
THE AIR CONDITIONING WASN'T WORKING IN MY ROOM WHEN I ARRIVED SO I ASKED FOR ANOTHER ROOM, AND THE GUY WAS MAD AT ME!!!! THEY FINALLY GOT ME A BETTER ROOM.

Great hotel in Rome
