We had a nice week long stay in February at this hotel in a basic cabin. The room was large with stained concrete floors, separate bath area (also spacious) and two private patios, though we only used the one which entered into our room since the other one was just dirt. The room was quiet with a rustic design, on the ground floor, and in a building with 3 other rooms. It was also just steps from the beach. Housekeeping was great with consistent, daily service. Our towels were replenished when we wanted and soaps and shampoos replenished as needed.

We had only two meals at the restaurant, one lunch upon arrival and breakfast on the day of departure. Both were good but on the pricier side for Zipolite.

Two bottles of drinking water were provided daily and a water cooler was available to fill a reusable water bottle near the Mexoni gift shop.

The only two minor issues was our room did not have a coffee maker (though I think upgraded rooms may have one) and coffee at the restaurant was approximately $5 USD, a little steep in my opinion. It would be nice if all rooms had complimentary coffee/tea. My last concern was that the staff contacted me via WhatsApp App to arrange for a taxi on our day of departure a few days prior. I expressed we wished to pay by credit card and was told that would be okay. On our departure it seemed no one had made arrangements, and though we again requested to pay by credit card, the taxi that arrived would only accept cash so we had to stop at an

Fourth time at El Alquimista. The hotel is really showing its age. The recent storms have taken a toll. Instead of investing in the property each year, the property has stayed the same over the past four years. The fixtures and fittings are showing age, the menu hasn’t changed, the loungers are worn. I’m sad to say that my time at El Alquimista is over. On to find a new hotel in the area.

We love El Alquimista! This is probably the most luxurious place to stay in Zipolite and you will not be disappointed. Attention to detail and exceptional service is one of the key points for our recurring stays here. They truly take care of you!

Two of our favorite staff are Louis & Cheely. They take excellent care of you in the restaurant and on the beach! After just day one they knew what we drank and what we liked. They just made life so simple and enjoyable for us. Louis had our umbrella and table waiting every day. With him we truly never needed for ANYTHING! Food here is EXCELLENT!

The grounds here are just beautiful and well maintained! The front desk guys also do a wonderful job and can schedule transportation for you to and from the airport. Nothing like getting off the plane in HUX and having a smiling face holding a card with your name on it!

El Alquimista makes it difficult for you to want to leave the property. The quality of services and food are hard to beat in this small town. The ambience is also just over the top! We loved all the candles at night and the refined vibe!

This is our forever place in Zipolite!

We stayed at three different places in Zipolite. Alquimista was best for food and location. The service was also good. We weren't aware that some of the hotels in Zipolite, while air conditioned, don't have glass windows, just wooden shutters and thatched roofs. In September when we visited, the air conditioner only keeps the room so cool, especially if you want to open the shutters for light. We weren't attracted to Alquimista because it was clothing optional, so we were okay with discovering that only the beach area in front of the hotel (not the hotel itself, like we had read) is clothing optional, although it seems to be okay on some of the hotel-serviced lounge chairs by the beach. Our room was by the hotel's kitchen, so between the crew working late in the night and the crew working breakfast, there was a considerable amount of noise. The view of the ocean from our room and the view from the pool were both obstructed by vegetation that could have been cut back, but we experienced the same issue at another hotel. Alquimista is definitely one of the better stays in the town, and the restaurant serves delicious, fresh food. It's a pleasant laidback cabana experience. Not fancy, but nothing is in the town.

The property is very boutique and located in Zipolito known for nude beach. , bungalow type rooms, reminded me a little of Bora Bora style bungalows. The food is very good at hotel and if you want to try other food option there are local restaurants with in walking distance that offer great food at half the or less the price of hotel. If you want to try a shrimp burrito then go into the town of mazunte and stop in at the Burrito fish local.

We had a suite close to the water that was super private yet close to the beach,pool & restaurant.
The location is perfect as it’s close enough to walk anywhere but this end of Zipolite Beach is definitely quieter.
The staff could not have been more friendly & attentive to any of our questions or requests.
Our only issue was the pool was so chlorinated that ourselves & other guests we talked to didn’t really use it which was a shame as the setting was really nice & chill.

Bad experience upon departure. One person help three groups!! THEN Our taxi was negotiated at one price with the front desk and the driver later asked for much more!!!

Zipolite is such a special place and El Alchemista is a lovely hotel situated on the most beautiful area of the beach. The rooms are very comfortable with solid A/C. The staff are very kind and hospitable in every facet. As for the restaurant, the food and seafood are exceptionally fresh. Every item I tried was ok, but the tuna tostado, ceviche and guacamole are very delicious. The restaurant waiters and the stunning front row view of the rocks and crashing waves made the experience truly special. Would absolutely stay again. Gracias para un viaje hermoso!

I originally booked a double room but found it dark, so I upgraded to the Grand Suite. It was a good call. The view was beyond gorgeous.

The staff is exceptional. They do everything with a smile, and no request is too small.

One note, this place is not for anyone with mobility issues. There are many stairs and very steep inclines.

The restaurant is exceptional. It's more expensive than most places in Zipolite but still a bargain for the quality.

The location is ideal. Everything is within a 15-minute walk.

It was hit by a hurricane a few weeks before we arrived. We were assured by the receptionist that it was okay and everything was supposed to be fine, But upon arrival to our room the AC did not work (until a specialist came the next day), The shower was lukewarm at best and there was no WIFI. The room that i paid for was destroyed by the hurricane so we got another room that was nice but had no mosquito net so we slept with a bunch of bugs in bed. And when i told about my experience to the receptionist she said that she can't compensate me so she just gave us a discount at the hotel restaurant which is extremely pricy and the food is ok at best and just plain bland most of the time. An experience that leaves a lot to be desired which is a shame because the hotel itself and the rooms are beautiful.

Excellent private location at the end of the beach, but still accessible to town. Very clean rooms. Sea view is worth the price with room for couples to spread out. Very low key clothing optional beach. Excellent service from all staff. My only suggestion for improvement is to add more beach umbrellas. There are only 8 for the entire property. We ended up buying one in town and bringing it to the beach every day.

We stayed at El Alquimista for four nights in one of the bungalows right at the beach. Super cute design! Very minimal in terms of space which was fine for us - bed with mosquito net (and they provide mosquito repellent), bathroom, separate shower, small table and a bit of storage for your things. Falling asleep and waking up to the sound of the waves was pretty awesome, and we enjoyed lounging on our verandah every day.

Staff were always pleasant and super helpful. The property itself is incredibly well thought out and just straight up beautiful! We also had massages at the spa 10/10 recommend. Would absolutely stay here again if we're back in the area.

I booked two nights here as a gift to my sister for her birthdays. The hotel is a 4 star hotel, The room was $300 cad dlls per night, we’ve been to the restaurant many times the pictures looked good. It was the last room left but I assumed it would be decent. When se arrived se was given a room with NO windows, dark dingy and not very clean. only one of the photos shown on the description was from the actual room we booked. It was so disappointing to spend $600 dlls for such a headache for her. The front desk staff said this happens because Expedia takes a while to update photos (not sure why they would advertise the wrong photos in the first place) i called Expedia to complain and they gave me a fake email address.m to reach out to. At 8:30 am the cleaning ladies were out with loud music dancing and taking care of a baby at the same time. My sister had to ask them to turn it down as they were trying to sleep in on a Sunday on their “holiday”. How is this worthy of 4 star hotel charging such outrageous fees? What a nightmare specially when you’re trying to give someone you love a break from life. I wouldn’t go back and I do not recommend.

Beautiful place to stay, the sound of ocean throughout the resort including the room filters any other sounds. I travelled solo, felt safe and employees were super helpful. Great selection of food. El Hotel esta bien para pasar unos dias en Zipolite, sin embargo le falta renovaciones, creo que en algunas habitaciones ya lo estan haciendo, falta mejorar el landscape, un mejor jardinero/paisajista, hay muchas ramas secas y areas muy descuidadas, al caminar hacia la playa, poco antes del restaurant huele a drenaje, me imagino que ahi esta la fosa septica, pero es muy desagradable.
Dos dias de playa nos tuvimos que ir al hotel vecino (Nude) porque no nos permitian abrir las sombrillas para sol porque habia viento, sin embargo en el otro Hotel no habia problema con el mismo tipo de sombrillas, por esa razon nos tuvimos que ir a pasar los dias y consumir en el otro hotel.
Hay otros puntos por mejorar, pero escribirlos aqui es bastante.
Creo que están dejando caer la calidad del hotel.

This place is beautiful! The beach is public but gives a sense of being private since it’s at the end of Zipolite and slightly separated by some rocks from the main beach. The staff was AMAZING, definitely one of it’s biggest assets.
Finally, the room/cabin is really beautiful, you feel in nature. The only observation I might have is that you also get all the noises from the outside including the room/cabin next to it.

The hotel itself is awesome, one of the best rooms I’ve stayed at ( amazing view and private pool) the problem is that there’s no phone in the room to call the office and if you call them to the cellphone that they have, they never answer. The water went off in my room and i called them more than 20 times with no answers, i had to go down to the office and they told me is about to be ready, so I waited in my room. After 2 hours i called again but no answer, I went down to office and the girl there told me “don’t worry about, the water will come back” I had no water for 12 hours and this lady told me this 2 times. The following day i spoke to hotel manager and she gave me a refund for half a day and she apologized. The food at the restaurant is great, and the location it’s beautiful, but the service is terrible. Waiters never smile, there is zero hospitality. Restaurant is open to the public and is often packed, so you have to chase the staff just to be put on the list. This is a beautiful place, but the bad service can ruin the experience. If the bad service changed, this could be one of the best hotels in Mexico. Overall, I do recommend staying here, just be mindful of the bad service. I will stay here in the future, and I hope they can get their staff in line, they could really used some hospitality training.

Its a great location for a Honey Moon, I really recommend the hotel to spend one week with your girlfriend, and rent a car its the best way to move in Oaxaca.

Best spot in Zipolite!

By far the best stay in Zipolite. Apart from being nicely tucked away in a far corner of the bay, so being a bit more private, it’s set up around the beach and the Cabañas and rooms are nicely spread. The food is great and a good variety, but best of all is the service, top notch. Very helpful from the outset when I was making enquiries and then throughout the stay. Will definitely come back!

The best place to stay in Mexico!

The resort was first class, and located on one of the amazing beaches I have seen. My initial 3 day stay was extended to 9 days as I it simply could not be beaten by other resorts along this beautiful coastline. Friendly staff and tasty food!

The people helping with check in and customer service are friendly and helpful! Alan especially is the best and helped give us a great experience at the hotel.

Some of the staff at the restaurant however were rude and appeared to be dissatisfied with their job. The restaurant is open all the time which is helpful, but the prices are high and flavor profile low...

The property itself is magical, private and set in the most beautiful part of Zipolite beach.

Compared to neighboring towns, Zipolite is kind of touristic and there is a clear divide between foreigners and locals. Go to S.A, Mazunte or Puerto Angel for something for authentic and unique.

Note about the clothing optional aspect:
We saw an overwhelming imbalance between male/female nudity. There were mostly nude men and only a few females topless which can lend to a strange atmosphere. I imagine it’s more balance when it’s high season.

The best part:
The rooms are beautiful and well appointed.
