The hotel grounds are beautiful but the staff especially the staff at reception didn’t seem too welcoming. I also explained that we were celebrating our honeymoon and was told the room would be decorated…it never happened.
The food lacks flavor…for such a big resort it would nice if it were more dining options.

We had great time at this hotel. Good evening entertainment and food was great! This hotel was busier then the other three hotels we stayed in zanzibar. Nice little beach area and bars. Would stay again..

Around the resort was very nice the pool/ beach was great. Staff around the hotel were nice and friendly. The room cleaning was not very good as they don’t change the bed sheets unless you tell them to overall bath room cleaning was also very poor the room didn’t look cleaned very well. Also the room is very out dated looks old for 5 star resort the mosquito net on the bed was broken from the top so wasn’t working some things in the room wasn’t working and wasn’t being replaced after cleaning it was as mostly housekeeping issues. Other than that it was good hotel.

Vi bodde på Royal Zanzibar i tre nätter. Tyvärr fick vi uppgradera då Superior twin inte hade myggnät - något som vi känner är ett måste och som också visades på bilderna. Vi behövde därför betala för att uppgradera för att få myggnät - något som jag inte uppskattade.
Det är inte sötvatten i kranarna, kanske är vanligt här - men blev lite förvånad.
Sköna sängar och kuddar och lakan. Dricksvatten serveras i plastflaskor, vilket kändes tryggare för magen, men inte så miljövänligt.
Fantastisk solnedgång och sandstrand och pooler.
Maten var helt ok, stundom väldigt bra. Gårdagens grillkväll var fantastisk.

I have paid for all inclusive and found that some of the menu are inclusive only the the bar after 12am out of inclusive even the sparkling water.
there is no room service for free, even if you need a water you should go to the bar and bring it your self.

Amazing property staff very attentive and accommodating. The spa was absolutely amazing. The buffet was ok not the best. The rooms are spacious. The love entertainment is a great addition to the stay. The worst part was the haggling at the beach with the guys everyone’s selling the same things and it makes you not want to go on the beach because they are a continuous bother. Other than that the beach was clean, clear waters. Overall good place I would definitely recommend staying there id return myself.

The check in was not good! We waited over an hour and 20 mins to get our keys because our room was not ready! After the initial chat we were just left sitting there with no apologies! Eventually the Duty Manager came and accepted we had been waiting and offered us compensation of late check out which was appreciated, however we then continued to wait and when questioned how much longer the staff suddenly grabbed some keys and quickly marched us to our room with still no apologies! On the last day reception phoned us to ask why we had not checked out and did not seem to know of our offer. Very poor communication from front desk and not the best start! Our room was excellent size and had partial view of the sea and importantly was very quiet! The towels were past their best and old and we did not have turn down service and mosquito nets and spray 2 nights out of four! But the bed was large and comfy! The pool and beach are fantastic and all staff there work hard and always ready to greet with a smile.The beach is lovely and we did not feel overly pressured by the beach sellers unlike other reviews they were just friendly but accepted when we said no, and we felt very safe with the presence of the hotel security! The power cuts at first a minor annoyance but when it lasted an hour and I showered by phone torch started to be a bit of a pain, surely they have a generator, and the hotel next door lights seemed to be on,so not sure why that was! AI package is very restrictive.

Starting off strong, bedsheets and pillows reeked of humidity, table cloths in the restaurants have oil stains on them. Some food are cold in the buffet (like soup) even if you go in the first 20 minutes. Plays horrible, horrible music at night- like Ciao Bella Club Remix level bad. And they BLAST IT so you hear it in your room as well. Also, they ask you for $95 to the airport, while a normal taxi around does it for 40, not even half. They try to charge you for everything, and it is in fact NOT all inclusive- only 4/5 cocktails included, e.g no tequila.
On the bright side, the staff is lovely. They do their best to help you and make your stay better. The resort also “does not encourage to tip the members of staff” as they note on the briefing paper they give you in check-in, for some reason.

The Royal Zanzibar Resort has stunning views of the ocean, a white sand beach, plenty of activities to participate in, and gorgeous pools and restaurants. A highlight for me was eating at The Cliff Restaurant which has amazing views. The open air gym was nice for a workout in the morning. The room was very spacious and the bed was very comfortable. All the staff go out of their way to make your experience enjoyable. They advise you of the government imposed tax, and other than that, there were no hidden fees. The price I paid through Expedia included all I could eat and drink at the resort! I highly recommend this place. I travelled here alone as a woman and felt completely safe on the property.

The ambience of the property is nice however I consider it very expensive in comparison to many other resorts I have visited all over the world. Zanzibar is generally expensive as they capitalise on tourists bringing in Dollars.
I couldn't fault the staff as most of them were very nice and friendly.
Electricity was intermittent and inconsistent.
My money was stolen, reported but never found.

We are from the USA and when we book all inclusive it mean everything. Well at this resort everything wasn’t all included. The alcohol that was included was horrible. I have never been to a resort was they won’t include tequila. If I would’ve known that we would have never booked this resort. We ended up spending so much more money because we could not drink the alcohol they had. Also the all inclusive end at midnight and don’t start back until 10am. One day the bartender stop at 11pm and we ended up having to pay for drinks. The next day we do go tell the front desk about the problem and they said they was going to speak to the bartender but the didn’t refund us our money. Also they told us the was going to do something special for my birthday and they didn’t. We did the floating breakfast and it was amazing, the experience and food was top tier. We also did the dinner on the beach and the food was so cold. I was very disappointed about my stay at Royal Zanzibar

The staff were fantastic. The man at the coffee bar ( i cant remember his name) was fantastic. So friendly and welcoming. Gloria, at the main bar, was lovely and enjoyed singing and sharing her local culture with us. Edward went above and beyond in his helpfulness and service. Just to name a few as all of the waiting staff in the main restraunt were fab as were most of the bar staff.
We had a massage with Faith and Asha who were both professional and exceptional in their service.

There was a probelm with our room upon arrival however we were fortunate enough to be upgraded to a deluxe suite. It was beautiful and had a fabtastic view of the sea and pool. It was particualrly beautiful to warch the evening sunset and the sky change at night. The bathroom was enormous with a powerful shower, huge batha nd double sink. Plenty of replenished toiletries. The bed was comfortable and plenty of plugs ( British).
Facilities
The pools were enormous with plenty of space to swim/ play. There was a seperate space for water pilo so it didnt disturb anyone.

The hotel is right on a beautiful beach which is lovely for a morning walk. There are a lot of people on it later on who are trying to encourage you to go to their shop or take a boat trip with them. The water is clear although there is little to see snorkelling wise; starfish and enenomies.

L’hotel est beau et propre, il y a plusieurs piscines et transats disponibles facilement. Mais, l’eau de la douche est salée (horrible pour les shampoings), les buffets ne varient pas vraiment, il n’y a pas de peignoirs malgré nos demandes à la réception, le mini bar est resté vide tout le séjour, le personnel drague votre femme sans vergogne.

The stay at this resort was not bad at all and the facility is incredible with so many pools and an amazing beach. It just wasn’t what I expected considering the high cost. We were limited in what alcoholic drinks we could have and any special requests to staff were denied. We were charged for every little thing even though the room cost 550 USD per night. I wasn’t able to check in early and staff just generally didn’t seem concerned with our well being. The service for drink and food was slow and nobody checks in on you when you’re seated for a while. I don’t think it’s a 5 star resort.

The Royal Zanzibar beach resort was the perfect location to end my Safari vacation. The views are breathtaking and the property is gorgeous! The staff was so nice and helpful throughout our entire stay. They knew me by name and my drink orders by the end of the trip! I would highly recommend staying at the Royal Zanzibar beach resort. The Royal Zanzibar Beach Resort, I would highly recommend! I love how the staff are so welcoming and helpful! Staying at the resort was very rewarding, it made me feel like I was HOME. I stayed in the ocean suite and the view was breathtaking! All in all If I had to rate the resort on a scale 1-10, it would be 1000. I loved it and I’m coming back in August. The impact Zanzibar has on me, I’m considering moving there! The staff met all my needs, very polite, and welcoming. If Royal is hiring in any positions, I’m all ears 😂

Firstly the rooms are huge, massive comfy bed, excellent batroom with huge bathand seperate shower. We loved the turn down service and most nights some little food treat would turn up, messages left on bed in flowers or bath run with petals in it. We never knew what to expect, and did giggle when we where greeted with 'Sweat Dreams' instead of 'Sweet Dreams.
Food in restaurants was good, always a great choice, but to be honest the pasta station was probably our favourite. The pasta chef deserves special mention, an Italian guy and pasta was just superb.

The staff and and the property itself was great. Right outside of the honeymoon suite, it wasn't a quiet oasis as I thought. It was filled with constant loud noise from all the beach vendors trying to sell stuff or blasting loud music throughout the whole day. Also, wish there was a hot jet tub and more restaurant options on property. The Cliff was only open for lunch.

Beautiful resort! Not many people during covid time so it felt like you had the place to yourself. Sadly only one of the two restaurants was open because so few people were there. It was understandable though. The staff were so friendly and kind! They have security close to the beach to keep away any people trying to sell you stuff so it’s nice you don’t have to deal with it.

Hotell oli kena ja hoolitsetud, eriti tore oli elada ilusa rõdu ja merevaatega toas kus oli hea vaadata rannasolevate kaupmeeste , kalameeste ja turvameeste masaide igapäevaelu.
Suureks probleemiks oli kokkupressitud rannatoolide ala , kus Venemaa turistide pideva lärmakuse tõttu oli võimatu lõõgastuda.
Igal esmaspäeval toimunud õhtusöök rannal oli omaette vaatamisväärsus ja merevesi ujumiseks väga hea.

Disappointing stay at Royal Zanzibar Hotel
Did not meet our expectation and was definitely not 5 star hotel.
One of the swimming pools was empty and out of service, the quality of all inclusive food and drinks were poor. It was pot luck whether the tables in the restaurant were cleaned and adequately laid, we had to ask
for cutlery, napkins etc. Many of the restaurant staff were trainees and had very little leadership/instruction from more senior colleagues.
We requested a hotel transfer to the airport and were initially quoted 80USD, the next day when we actually booked we were asked for 95USD, we questioned the difference and were told that this was because it was a luxury car that belonged to the hotel, we duly paid this amount but the following day we were collected by a private car, not in good condition,
almost ran out of fuel twice on the way to the airport. This was not a hotel car so we were grossly overcharged. A private car would have cost us 40-50 USD.

In this location and sadly the Royal Zanzibar is not up to their standard.

Absolutely stunning property. When the gates open, you truly feel royal. Everything is very well maintained, and all staff members — from receptionists, gardeners, housekeeping, beach boys — were so kind and cheerful. The pools were amazing! It seems like most of the people hang out at the infinity pool and beach area, which left a lot of the other pools open. All of the food at the restaurant was delicious — they had dozens of options suited for any preference.

When you enter the resort it is stunning, especially if you arrive at sun set as we did.

We had to wait quite some time to get in our room as they had a room with 3 beds while we wanted one big bed (queen) and one smaller bed (double) it took some time to arrange this. They should have communicated long before as most other places or prepare 2 options for us before our arrival.
We were very happy with the staff they were very attentive to our needs and very friendly. :-) Which makes up for everything.

I came on vacation to sleep, relax and eat. The food is ok and if i got hungry after 11pm i had to wait until breakfast the next day to eat there is no room service or no kitchen services after dinner which is 7pm to 930 pm. The resort is remote walking to get food is impossible.

Spacious, friendly all- inclusive beach resort
Spent four days here at the end of our Zanzibar holiday, primarily to relax by the beach. Had a wonderful time and didn't want to leave. Didn't leave the resort but to walk along the beach. Beaches were wonderful- could walk for hours exploring the tidal pools, and enjoyed the swimming. Hats off to the staff- everyone from reception to restaurant, gardeners and room service were warm, friendly and helpful. Restaurant buffets were generous and varied- I'm sure just about anyone would find enough to please them, and the fresh fruit was plentiful and delicious. The all inclusive beverages were likewise varied and would cater for most.

Great beach with wonderful hospitality and service. Rooms are clean and staff is friendly and helpful. The bed is poor and very hard. This wasn't a huge issue because I spent most of my day at the beach on a nice lounge. Food is amazing with great selection for all.

Worst hotel experience in my 20 years of travel!
When I booked the hotel via the App, I booked for one person (default setting is 1 guest, website is 2). I immediately called Expedia to check if everything will be OK as I was traveling with friend. We tried calling the hotel but the reservation desk was not working that day. Expedia suggested to cancel the booking and re-book with 2 people as the rate was the same. I decided to call the hotel the next day directly (also sent an e-mail - no reply), and when I did, the resort assured me that all is in order and the booking was for 2 people incl. all inclusive. On our first day we were called to the office only to be told that I owe the 'resort' an extra $348 as my friend was not paid for (the all incl. package). I told the office manager (Mr. Godfrey) that this is an issue that needs to be sorted with either hotel management or with Expedia as I had done my due diligence to avoid exactly this situation and I will not be paying anything further. Apparently the resort had called Expedia to tell them that there would be an extra charge but the info never got to us. On the day of check-out nothing had been sorted by Mr. Godfrey as hendemanded the extra fee while waiving a 'voucher' stating the booking was for one person. As I repeated to explain that I will not be paying and that i would like to speak with the GM (he was not there) Mr. Godfrey threatened to call the police on us. Needless to say I paid my fee unwillingly.

Perfect beach getaway after our safari
This was the perfect way to get pampered and relax after our safari. The staff was very friendly. Massages were reasonably priced. The buffet food was good (including fresh, premium seafood items on certain days such as octopus and tuna.) The a la carte restaurant was excellent... a perfect way to celebrate a birthday dinner with a wonderful candlelit view of the beach. We had the whole restaurant to ourselves! The room was huge. It was a corner unit with a view of the ocean and two balconies. The beach was very nice with white sand and swimmable clear blue water. The only thing I'd point out... I wish they included recognizable branded spirits. For example, Absolut Vodka would be chargeable but the local vodka was included.

This is a very good hotel with excellent service and staff. The meals were very good and varied. The one unfortunate thing is the moment you step onto the beach you are pestered by local vendors. You therefore cannot have a peaceful stroll along the beach - there will always be someone approaching you and trying to sell you something.

We were upgraded to a sea view suite upon arrival... The room was amazing and just 5 meters from the beach with an amazing view.
Only 2 problems we encountered were- balcony door wasn't able to lock, which was later fixed.
And the hot water... We had a bath tub but not enough hot water to fill it more than half way.... Which was a disappointment.

Had a wonderful 7 night stay here. Food fantastic, great entertainment, all staff really friendly and helpful, fabulous pools and beach can't recommend this place highly enough. Plan to go back for 2 weeks next time.

Located on a beautiful stretch of white sand, turquoise water beach. Bungalows were a bit dated, but very spacious and decorated beautifully. The staff were amazing, so kind, so friendly and always made us feel welcome. The food was incredible, one of the best we have had in an all inclusive...there was a meat station, pizza and pasta station along with many hot dishes and local curries. And the desserts were so beautifully decorated and very tasty. The majority of guests at the hotel were Italian and the hotel seems to cater to that in terms of food and entertainment.

After reading some questionable reviews, I was somewhat concerned about what we would encounter. I am happy to report that this resort was just amazing! All the staff were ALWAYS very courteous and greeted you with a warm Jambo! Obviously the credit goes to the management as that doesn't happen by accident. The beach was amazing, the pools fantastic, the amenities were great, the premises always spotless, and the food was great. We only spent 2 nights but could have easily spent another 4 or 5! My only complaint was that the bed was a little stiff, but I encountered that in all the hotels that I stayed in throughout East Africa. Don't hesitate to book at this resort - it was GREAT!

You'll love it... Just a few things to remember
Resort is great. The balcony allows you to enjoy your surroundings from the comfort of your room (if you want to). One thing that put a damper on our bliss for the 1st night was that we left the door leading to the balcony open; though we did shut the screen door before we left to dinner, we came back in the room to find zillions little flying insects that littered the desk, the floor and were on the ceiling (around the bulb). I think wwe also left the lights on. Although the screen door will keep most insects (including mosquitoes out), some small insects will get through the screen (the holes are, in my view, not tight enough). Luckily, turn-down service had pulled down the mosquito net above the bed; so the insects were not able to get in our bed. But we learned our lesson, and for the rest of our stay, we made sure to shut both the glass door and the screen door before leaving the room. The guys in the Spices restaurant are fantastic: Emmanuel, Pietro, Magdalena and Margaret. They'll do everything to keep you happy.

We were made to wait for 1.5 hrs well after the listed check in time, did not get the beach view room as booked, staff friendly but service disappointing. Food terrible, drinks dismal, could not get running water in the shower.. The manager claimed the expedia terms listed were incorrect !! we were refused a 2hr late checkout and had to cancel a booked massage. The only service that occurred on time was a bellman appearing at 10:15am asking to carry our luggage since it was check out time.
It appeared since we were not part of a large group (which seemed the target client group, the staff nor the manager to whom we spoke to twice, did not see any reason to address our complaints). For $350/night this is a steal, just not for the guest..
