Our retreat cottage was lovely, comfortable, clean and great location. I would however say the kitchen needs to be better equipped- lack of utensils and glasses; also bedrooms very small. I feel the cottages could be styled to a higher standard.

The Champagne cottage was very spacious, comfortable and clean. We felt very much at home. The view of the mountains from the back terrace was beautiful. The property was private and peaceful. It was removed from the main resort facilities, which required a car/ shuttle to get to. There were fans in the rooms, but no functioning AC. Having a clothes washer was much appreciated.

Absolutely spectacular — our favorite stay in South Africa!
This has been by far the most spectacular place we stayed during our trip to South Africa. The customer service was incredible — every member of the team at Boschendal Farms made us feel so welcome.

Our kids loved the day camps at the Tree House. Andrea, the kids’ club director, is phenomenal. Our children couldn’t wait to go back each day! She taught them about farming, composting, how to pick fruit, and even led them on hikes. They had cooking lessons, horse riding, and so many hands-on experiences.

We couldn’t have asked for a better family experience. Huge thanks to the entire Boschendal team — you made this unforgettable!

We stayed at Boschendal as the first part of a 2-week South Africa honeymoon and we could not have imagined a better place to spend the first few days of our marriage! Our cottage was stunning, comfortable, quiet and luxurious. The breakfast provided was incredible. The service is some of the best we've experienced ever. The property is exquisite. The activities are plenty - hiking, horseback riding, wine tasting, picnicking, etc. This is one of the most special properties I've ever stayed at on vacation and glowingly recommend it to everyone!!

Not worth the money.

We stayed for 3 nights at the end of our trip in SA. I regret spending so much money on this stay. The cottages are all connected with no sound proofing. The retreat is popukar with families with small children , the toddler next door cried every night. By 6.30am both kids would be up and running around, so I never got a good night's sleep. When sitting outside you would hear children shouting, running and crying. I love kids but when I book a retreat cottage I envisioned peace and quiet and there was none to be had. The other problem with the cottage was a fruit fly infestation. I asked several times for a deep clean but all we got was a mosquito candle. I uses the bug spray that was in the kitchen, which helped a bit but than we had dead flies everywhere, including the fridge, which wasn't cleaned. The retreat cottages have a separate restaurant for breakfast. The juice, yoghurt and coffee are amazing but the rest is just okay. 2 mornings there was only 1 kind of bread but no tongs so everyone uses their hands to serve themselves. last morning there were 3. They also have croissants, muffins and scones. The muffins were hit and miss, some are obviously saved from the day before, and were hard and dried out. Fruit salad was tasty, I didn't try the cooked food so can't commend. Last morning the springles were on so no one could sit outside because the tablea all gor sprayed, inside was very noisy with several babies and toddlers, so hard to relax.

Great tranquil and beautiful place.

This property is next level amazing. The food is wonderful, the picnics, various restaurants, to say nothing of the wine. We stayed in a retreat cottage which is amazing and well appointed. The staff are great. I was with my wife and four year old daughter and we loved it all. My daughter did horse tours and we just had a truly perfect experience here staying for a week. It’s magical. The property is expansive and offer a lot of great things to do. The kids club is out of this world. The wine region around is so much fun.

The location is fabulous and the breakfast was genuinely amazing. The cottage was a bit disappointing to be honest - TV was broken, oven was poor and took ages to heat up, and the cottages have been built to face the rear of the cottage in front, so unless you’re lucky you don’t get a view.

We spent our last night in Boschendal in a werf suite. We were very impressed, it probably had the best bed on our trip. The cottage was well decorated and very well equipped. The staff were friendly and the food at the Werf restaurant was great. I would recommend.

We travelled with another couple , and stayed in the cottages amongst the orange groves and vineyards . The views were amazing and it helped us fulfill our travel of a lifetime as we ended our 2 week travels thru South Africa . We had multiple meals at the property and were very pleased . The property is convenient to both Stellenbosch and Fransschhoek. If you go, highly recommend the Fat Butcher for dinner or lunch. Spend a day in both towns . You won’t regret it

Idyllic Setting For a Family Reunion.

Great Accomodation Poor Restaurant

The accommodation and setting is superior. The Deli & Coffee house is very nice, but unfortunately in off season is not open in the evening. This was our second visit to their restaurant. The wines are over priced. They do not have a corkage system, even though you may have bought Boschendal wine. Their menu is concoction of hype and poor ingredients. What they describe as steak are a few pieces of sinewy off trim that any decent butcher would have discarded.

A cozy vineyard/farm estate in wine country!

One of the loveliest places i have ever visited. I stayed with a group in the 3 bedroom suite the first night and then moved to a 1 bedroom for my second night. Wonderful amenities such as a free shuttle around the property, free wine and fresh milk in the fridge for your morning coffee. They have a farm shop that makes cooking in the suites so easy. The rooms i stayed in offered an indoor fireplace and an outdoor BBQ which really makes it so fun and enjoyable for group stays! My only complaint was with the spa: the staff was lovely, but the quality of the massage was not great. But that would not deter me from coming here again. I 100% would stay here again - if not just for the scenery.

Beautiful place but I don’t recommend it.

Unfortunately, the experience was not what we expected, due to the family of mice living in the Cottage. We didn’t fly 26 hours, from the United States to go sleep with mice. They did not get us a new room until 10pm and we were leaving at 9am the following day.
I was told when checking out that I would receive an email regarding are stay at the Clarence Cottage. I’m still waiting patently for their email.
I’ve emailed them 2 or 3 times this week and still no response.

A long way from Franschhoek

This is 18km from Franschhoek so a taxi back cost us £25, not ideally placed. Views and surroundings are beautiful if you don’t mind being isolated but we like going to restaurants in the town
Cottages had a shared pool and an individual BBQ
They are fine but expensive for what you get. The cottage for 2 had literally 2 of everything, plates, glasses, forks etc in the ‘fully equipped kitchen’
Our experience was soured by the fact that the werf restaurant was closed on both nights we were there, the farm tours weren’t available and there was a charge for the 15 minute cellar tour even as farm guests, whereas every other winery we visited had a free one.
Add to this an oven and phone that didn’t work, not somewhere we would return to I’m afraid

The cottage was beautiful and the surroundings were great as well. We really enjoyed the stay. The pool was super relaxing as was the cottage. One frustrating part was the wifi is nearly non-existent which makes it difficult when traveling and trying to book reservations. Also, the cottage phones operate off of wifi so we weren't able to contact the reception to book dinners/etc. This is something that should be fully operational in 2019. I would stay there again if this was addressed.

We have stayed previously at Orchard and Werf cottages. We were very impressed with the quality and housekeeping. However this time we stayed at Retreat Cottages for 5 nights. The housekeeping was sporadic- thebeds only made up on 2 days. On one day one room was made up but not the other! Bins not emptied unless left out on floor. Water and milk not topped up daily.Had to call for replacement s - if we knew it wasn’t going to be done we could have purchased in town. On one day milk was left out on shelf in
28 degrees heat. Fridge door left open so food not kept cold so threw out. Toilet not cleaned. Had to ask for washing liquid, cafetiere, and wood for braii. Plug in sink wrong size - we asked for replacement - which we got day 3. Made washing dishes difficult when tying to conserve water.
One day 3 people were cleaning the cottage which would really only need one person doing it properly. Reception quite often empty with ‘back in 5 mins”
Would be useful to have recycling bin for glass and plastic.
A bit disappointing considering past experience. We did mention on check out the sporadic service.

Loved the Werf resaurant with its multy course set menu... the chef was top drawer, and prepared meals where our children was able to observe his every move! They loved it, and the food was beautifully prepared. Highly recommended.

Heavenly! Beautiful cottage with every comfort necessary - our stay was way too short! Fabulous surroundings, log fire (we were there in winter- so cosy and quiet!), complimentary bottle of wine, comfy beds, wonderful shower - would stay again in a heartbeat. Oh, and a cracking wine tasting at the manor!

The little cottages are so beautifully done within an environment that is so well maintained and the farm land they created provides a habitat for so many different species, that I cannot enumerate here everything we saw. The restaurant is exquisite, the decor whimsical and pleasing to the eyes, the staff is extremely friendly and efficient. A place where we would love to retire: a true paradise.
