We stayed one night, in high season. The room was small, but fine. The bathroom was tiny; it was so small, we had to turn sideways to pass between the shower and the vanity (and we're skinny!).
The manager was outstanding, and very customer-focused. The breakfast was fine. It was very nice to sit by a small stream while we ate breakfast.
My biggest issue is value. I just didn't see any reason why the price was so high (around R 3200 per night). To me, given the location, and the setting, the price was at least 50% higher than it should be.

Fantastic little hotel, the staff couldn't have been more friendly or helpful if they tried. A little way out of the centre of Franschoek, about 10 kms but well worth the journey in for dinner each night.

Gorgeous location and fantastic advice
This is a terrific bed and breakfast with a welcoming feeling and the proprietor goes out of his way to create a friendly and relaxed setting. The grounds are impeccable, but what really makes it special is the advice from the owner. Everything we asked about we got spot on recommendations. It's a few miles from the town center, We were given help making a reservation and a car service so we could enjoy wine safely. If you want views of the vineyards, this is ideal. I would definitely come again.

MY TOP RATING CORRESPOND TO A B&B OF THIS CATEGORY, WE FOUND IT EXTREMELY CONVENIENT, THE KINDNESS OF THE STAFF AND THE MANAGER DID GO THE EXTRA MILE TO SOLVE ANY PROBLEM. THE B&B DO NOT HAVE REFRIGERATORS IN THE ROOMS, BUT WHEN I INQUIRED FOR A BAR FRIDGE, 10 MINUTES LATER THEY BROUGHT A SMALL REFRIGERATOR FROM THEIR KITCHEN, WHAT MORE CAN YOU WISH.

Lovely lodges just by the vineyards
Klein Waterval is a very charming place with rustic lodges and a fabulous location right by the vineyards. Sitting by the bar provides a beautiful view of the vines against a backdrop of mountains. The pool is a lovely cool retreat on a hot sunny day and the staff are very pleasant and helpful.

Quiet, peaceful stay
Klein Waterval Riverside Lodge is located in the country which makes for a quiet, peaceful stay. If you are looking for an active nightlife, this is not the place to stay. If, however, you are interested in a safe, quiet place to spend a night or two, this is ideal. The lodge is within close driving distance to both Franschoek and Stellenbosch, but a car is essential. It is the midst of wine country, so very convenient for a wine tour. It rained during our stay, which brought out the centipedes and our room was filled with them - pretty disgusting! There were three of us, so our daughter had to sleep on a sofa sleeper, which was convenient, but not terribly comfortable. Staff was great. All in all, a great place to stay.

Staff were brilliant, and extremely helpful, from local information to booking restaurants and arranging drivers they were awesome. If we'd had more time wed have done a bit more relaxing poolside. Its a very personal space which makes it easy to talk with other guests which you don't get in big hotels. If you're gregarious and like to mingle a bit I'd fully recommend it.

Rustic, full of character with odd slight failings
This place was just brilliant for us. We had just had 2 nights in a v top hotel in Cape Town and wanted to go more BnB. This place is large, slightly run down, has its faults, but is absolutely brilliant. We will be back.

The owner was great to talk to and the two Parson Jack Russells are full of character and very friendly. Even a big dog lover was won over.
So, if you like quirky, can accept the odd small fault, then this place is brilliant and a must. If you are one of those who complains at anything - then stay elsewhere.
Planning to go back next year. Oh and Franschoek, is excellent and do go walking in the La Rochelle nature park - the views are wow.

A comfortable place in a wonderful setting
Although we were the only guests at the hotel because it was winter we were treated very well. We arrived late and were shown to our bungalow room overlooking the beautiful Franschoek mountains. We drove into the town which was quite dead at 8pm but had a sumptious meal at Reubens in the town which was excellent and original. Enza the manageress could not have been more helpful to us the next morning as she recommended a place we could stay near Hermanus to see the whales which was stunning. The hotel is simple, clean and well situated. It is near the Solms Delta farm which is really interesting to visit as it is a cooperative venture with an interesting museum giving the history of the farm and its inhabitants. Klein Waterval is a great place to explore this exsquisite area.
