more than just a 1 star

this was a fantastic location close to malcesine centre (about 5-10 minute walk) if you book a Lakeview balcony you will have a stunning view every day and will be able to watch the sunset over the mountains. the location is compromised by being on the busy road circling the lake but if a little road noise wont put you off this is the perfect place. I complimented the staff on how kind and helpful they are as well as how clean the place was. this is definitely a business that takes pride in what they provide. drinks from here are cheap and the garden around the pool is beautiful. This is one of the best places I had seen and I was highly impressed by the fact it's only a one star hotel. I would stay here again, definitely. I do not think we will get the same warm welcome, good value and ideal location anywhere else so close to the lake.

Lovely, Family Run Hotel

Casa Popi is a small family run hotel about ten minutes walk from the centre of Malcesine.

The hotel is spotless, the public areas bright and the staff could not be more helpful. The room that my wife and I were in, at the rear of the hotel was quiet, airy and spacious. Rooms at the front of the hotel are next to the busy Lake Garda main road. The rooms at the rear of the building, each with a balcony, overlook a well maintained swimming pool and garden area. The breakfast room is again bright and airy and well stocked with a range of provisions giving a good 'continental' breakfast. There is no air conditioning in the hotel but the provision of a large ceiling mounted fan in the bedroom area was more than sufficient to keep the temperature comfortable during the mid September period.

The amenities, of the hotel, are enhanced by the helpfulness and attention of the owners. Like other reviewers I am amazed that this hotel only rates one star. I would have no hesitation in staying at Casa Popi in the future and of recommending it to others

Nice little hotel

Very enjoyable stay, conveniently situated a short walk away from the main bus stop in the centre of town. The real bonus of staying here is the beautiful garden and pool behind the hotel.

Brilliant location and wonderful stay

Had such a lovely stay here. I was in a balcony room facing the lake and the views are just stunning. If you are a sensitive person who needs full quiet whilst sleeping however this may not be the best room for you as the road can be noisy, however this didn’t affect my stay. The staff are welcoming and helpful with advice, and nothing was any trouble. Plenty of yummy food at breakfast and a little room you can use to eat snacks and stuff. Overall just a really quaint and honestly beautiful place. I would stay again :)

Hotel clean and staff helpful - good breakfast

Hotel was clean and staff friendly and helpful. Our room over looked the lake at the front but road was busy and it was noisy - constant cars going by all the time. Pool was clean and gardens pretty. Breakfast room was a little on the small side but the food was good - selection of cheeses, yogurt, fruit, pancakes etc. Coffee machine was a bit frustrating as you had to queue so providing a pot on your table would be nice in the morning. Bed mattress could have been better and the towels were always very hard. This hotel is very clean but if I ever stayed in Malcesine again I would choose a hotel well away from the road.

Really nice lovely clean B&B!

The B&B is a short walk from both the lake and the town centre and the cable car to the top of the mountain. The bedrooms are reasonably basic but very clean as is the whole hotel, the staff are really friendly and helpful too. The pool and gardens are also well looked after and make for a great place to relax and read a book etc. Breakfast is good with a wide choice of food and coffees, juice etc. Would highly recommend and we will certainly return as several other guests had many times over!

The location was excellent as only a few minutes walk to the lake-side and also to the town centre. The hotel had excellent facilities and the staff could not have been more helpful. The breakfasts were excellent and I loved all the freshly baked items. The pool area was beautiful, very relaxing and just what was needed at the end of a hot day.

Lovely clean comfortable hotel

This is a no frills hotel but its beautifully clean beds are comfortable and the continental breakfast plentiful. The staff are friendly you are given two cards to take to two different restaurants where you will get a 10% discount we tried both and the food was great in each one. It's a short walk into town where we spent most of our time. We had a lake facing room and the view was gorgeous. There is a pool which is well maintained and sits in a lovely garden. We would definitely stay there again.

We had a room over looking the lake amazing views but some noise from the road.our room was spotlessly clean no air con but fan was fine.
A family run hotel small n friendly.The pool was set in lovely gardens always sun beds available.
this hotel offers an adorable stay on lake Garda we ll be returning!!

What a find. Great little B&B with pool.Near town.

This hotel definitely deserves more than 1 star rating. The photos do not do it justice. It is in a great spot with fabulous views of the Lake and within a 4-5 minute stroll into Malcesine.
The room was basic but had everything you needed with wardrobe, plenty of drawer space,large bed. Bathroom had WC,Bidet.Washbowl and Shower.Hairdryer in bathroom was brilliant. I always take my own as I normally find they are rubbish in hotels but not this one. Water was always hot.Exceptionally clean.Maid service everyday and towels changed about every 3 days but you can pay a small charge for daily towel change.
All rooms have balconies with chairs and a table. If overlooking the Lake you get the sun in the afternoon and evening until sunset. If overlooking the Pool you get the sun in the morning.
The pool was lovely,so clean and was not freezing to get into like so many are.Maybe because it had the sun on it all day.Plenty of nice cushioned beds too.Pool towels 3 euros if needed.
There is no bar but you can get wine,beer & coffees etc until reception closes at 10pm.
It is a family run B & B which used to be owned by POPI who lives on site. Her daughter ROSA runs it now with help from other family members. They are all just amazing. So friendly. We were going to a wedding at Malcesine Castle and Rosa even got her nephew FAB who works there also to give us a lift to the town in our wedding outfits.
Breakfast was adequate with cereal,cheese,meats,eggs,bread,cakes,tea,coffee and juice.

Lovely lake views and close to town

Not stayed at Casa Popi before or this area of town before but have visited Malcesine many times.
The hotel is very clean and pool area is perfect with a mixture of sunny and shaded areas to sit.
Our room was immaculate and was cleaned during our stay, the ceiling fan helped to keep the heat bearable over night and the shower was good.
The breakfast was a typical Italian style and was adequate but not amazing.
The wifi is slightly temperamental but what you would expect for free wifi.
One thing that would definitely improve this hotel is a fridge in the room as the bar closes fairly early and it would have been nice to have a drink on return to our room in an evening
Overall a wonderful stay in beautiful Malcesine again.

Myself and my partner thoroughly enjoyed a weeks stay at Casa Popi. We had a room in the front which meant we had traffic noise but we quickly got used to it, and the views made up for the noise! The pool is great too!

A perfect hotel and location

I can not explain to you how perfect this hotel is. Firstly it is spotlessly clean. Our room was cleaned everyday. The pool area was so clean and the outdoor shower for the pool.
Location: perfect. Not even a 4 minute walk from the town, bus station and a big Spar Supermarket. It was a level walk too, not uphill thankfully!
The breakfast was very well catered for and the plates kept being refilled during the breakfast times so there was always good choice.
The room was basic but comfortable. And so clean! We had a balcony overlooking the lake with a table and chairs which made for a very scenic lunch each day with food from the spar.

The only thing I would say is there is a little road noise. It calms down at night. It did not bother me as I am a heavy sleeper. You could request a room at the back but this balcony would not be as private as the people lying pool side would have full view.

Quiet relaxing hotel

Stayed for one week, 15 May to 22 May, 2015. Had a top floor room,with lovely view of Lake Garda. The room was spotlessly clean and well furnished. The garden and pool is well maintained and extremely inviting, perhaps the next time we stay at Casa Popi, we may request a room at the rear of the hotel overlooking the garden. After a day trip in the car, it was nice to spend some time in the garden, simply relaxing with a glass of Bardilino red. Breakfast was ample, with a selection of home made bread available. Parking is easy and is allocated on arrival in the hotel's underground car park.

Fantastic location

I had a lovely stay in Casa Popi in a room overlooking the lake. Breakfast was great with homemade breads and cakes.Walking into town takes you only a few minutes. the two sisters who run the hotel are very friendly and helpful. I can highly recommend this place:)

Great budget hotel in a great location

The staff arranged an airport transfer for us in advance which was helpful and we were allowed to check in before the given time of 3pm which was great as we arrived quite early.
The room was clean and functional - the double bed was two singles pushed together but comfy enough - a further pillow each would have been nice but nothing to complain about really. The shower was good as was the ceiling fan and balcony. A continental breakfast between 8-10am was ideal with cereal, a range of home made breads, cold meats, cheeses, fruit, boiled eggs, baked goods (brioche rolls etc...) coffee and juice.
The hotel is on the main road (we had a room over looking the pool at the rear - so staying at the front may have proved to be an issue with regards to noise?!) to Malcesine about a 10 minute walk away. There is also a restaurant next door and a Spar shop nearby.
We found it a pleasant stay and the staff were helpful when needed and it was a great location for the price. Would definitely recommend the hotel to all especially those travelling on a budget who cant afford a 5* on the lake front.

IDEAL HOTEL TO EXPLORE LAKE GARDA AND AREA.

We have just returned from Casa Popi and rate this as a fabulous hotel to stay in when exploring Lake Garda. The hotel was immaculate and pool area too. Staff were very helpful and friendly, always approachable and eager to help .Hygiene was superb and linen changed daily, beds extremely comfortable and rooms cleaned daily too. Although just bed and breakfast, there were lots of choice foods catering for all guests requirements. We were allowed to eat food etc in the rooms or on the balcony. We were lucky enough to have a room at the front of the hotel with fantastic views of the lake, at times the road was a little noisy but not too bad, however the views were well worth it. The pool was ideal and welcoming on hot days to cool off in. The garden was beautiful and well looked after, full of wonderful flowers, trees and bushes. This wonderful hotel is definitely suitable for couples or singles and ideal for quiet, relaxing holidays or to use as a base to explore the surrounding areas of Lake Garda. We can not rate this hotel highly enough and would definitely recommend it to other travellers to the area. Many thanks to Rosa and all of her staff for making our stay unforgettable, when we return to Lake Garda in the future we would definitely stay at your wonderful hotel .....

Nice hotel overlooking Lake Garda

We had a fantastic week at Casa Popi and would recommend it to anyone who is looking for an excellent place to stay at budget prices. The hotel rooms, swimming pool and garden areas were exceptionally clean and the breakfast, although typically Italian, was plentiful with homemade bread every morning. The staff were more than helpful and Rosa is a delightful host It's location is only 10 minutes walk from both the lake and the centre of Malchesine where there are an abundance of places to eat out and a Eurospar is close buy which has a wide range of food and wines. If you want to travel around then there is the opton of using the boats on the lake or the bus which passes the door.

Very nice family-run hotel overlooking Lake Garda

My wife & I stayed at this hotel for 5 days for a family wedding. The facilities (as you would expect for a 1-star rated hotel) are basic but adequate. The hotel is run by 2 very friendly sisters and the welcome was warm. The hotel is very clean, both reception areas and the room that we had. There were no tea or coffee making facilities in the room.The bathroom had a powerful, hot shower, basin, bidet & toilet - all of which were spotlessly clean. The double bed was equipped with clean sheets, blankets and cover, not a duvet and we both needed extra pillows - provided immediately. We slept very well.
We had a room with a balcony on the first floor at the back overlooking the pool, charming garden, olive grove and the mountain beyond - very pretty! Traffic noise at the front of the hotel might be obtrusive to a light sleeper, especially at weekends when the road is very busy. Do not choose lower ground floor rooms at the front which are comparatively dark.
Breakfast was straightforward but adequate - the toaster was slow, taking well over 5 minutes to brown the bread. But there was plenty of cereal, milk, tea, coffee, jam, marmalade together with the usual continental additions of cheese, salami, ham etc. - no need to go hungry.

The hotel staff made us feel welcome straight away. The hotel is situated on the main road, therefore the rooms at front are slightly noisier, but have terrific lake views. The rooms at the back overlook the pool and the beautiful Monte Baldo. Worth noting that the hotel does not provide soap/shampoo.

Booked the hotel for a week in July 2013 as attending a wedding in the town.
A gem of a hotel. Spotlessly clean ,Lovely uncrowded pool, very helpful staff.
Good continental breakfast and drinks available all day.
Just a short walk to town on the main road or alternatively by the promenade down the hill.
Beautiful views over the lake but front rooms have some traffic noise as the hotel fronts onto the main road..
Also no air con but big ceiling fans in the rooms.
We had late flights back but could leave the bags and use the hotel facilities all day and had use of a shower room for changing.
The hotel organised airport transfers for us.
Would certainly book the hotel again if going back to the area and recommend it to anyone for good value accommodation.

why only one star!!?

Stayed for two weeks at Casa Popi and we had a great time. Our hosts were always helpful and happy to please, the lake view rooms although could be a little noisy at times were worth the views. the garden and pool area to the rear were full of flowers, very peaceful and a pleasure to rest in again with great views of the Monte Baldo Mountains.
All in all we certainly would stay here again and are hoping to get back in September.

Stayed 5 nights in august & had a lovely time. We had a ground floor room with views over the lake. We were right beside the road but the noise wasnt a problem. The pool is quite small but perfect for cooling off in the hot summer. Nice walk into town but lack of pavement on the main road was a bit off putting. Great wee hotel overall & would love to go back.

We found Casa Popi to be convenient for the town, just a short walk... only comment is no pavement. The staff could not have been more friendly and helpful, even lent us an umbrella when it started to lash down with rain! Dont understand why it only has 1 star. Breakfast was the usual- continental, as to be expected. They offer Wi Fi for nominal amount for the whole stay. The pool is lovely and clean with plenty of sun loungers set in nice neat garden. Great view over the lake from the balcony in the front rooms.. by the main road, but the noise didnt bother us with the windows closed and the ceiling fan on, no A/C. Great place would recommend.

Basic but all you need

Casa Popi was great value for money, the rooms a very big and clean. The decor is abit dated and with facelift they could charge more money. We had a road room which was a bit noisy but we slept with earplugs. The view was stunning from the front of the hotel, our room opened onto a small patio with table and chairs. The pool is lovely, very clean, great hammock! Breakfast was OK, Spar down the road. Very helpful English speaking staff. 10mins casual walk to shops and resturants. No soap, iron or hairdryer, take your own.

A great value hotel - very affordable with everything you need.

Rooms are a good size, clean and have a balcony. There is a nice garden area with pool & sun loungers available - nice for a lazy afternoon.

The breakfast provided is basic but has a reasonable range - cereal, toast, fruit and the standard meat/cheese/egg that you would expect. A selection of drinks are available from the hotel and these were reasonably priced. Staff were pleasant and very helpful.

The lovely centre of Malcesine is only 5-10 minutes walking distance.
It is an easy walk , however note - The footpath is alongside a busy road and there is no pavement for some of the walk so it may not be suitable for those with mobility problems or small children.

There are plenty of bars, restaurants & shops close by in Malcesine, as well as the beautiful sights.

All in all , an excellent value hotel for those looking for a base from which to explore the local area.

Hotel Casa Popi - Bargain in a beautiful location

I would highly recommend Casa Popi.
It's not a boutique hotel nor 4/5* luxury, but you're not paying that price.
About a 5/10 minute walk from the centre of Malcesine but you really don't feel out of it.
We went for a roadside room which gave us an absolutely stunning view over Lake Garda. There was good double glazing and coming from London I honestly couldn't detect any significant road noise.
There is a bit of a initial mucking around with getting cheques across for the deposit (no cards taken) - but well worth the hassle.
Really really friendly service without feeling like you haven't got your own privacy.

Malcesine itself is beautiful. Cobbled streets on a hill down to the lake with a castle and plenty of reasonably priced restaurants with Lake views in a few little harbour type of areas so that it doesn't feel like a sea of touristy restaurants. Not as pretentious as the Cote D'Azur, but certainly not a Torremolinos.

Casa Popi - Superb Hotel

We were really impressed by the hotel as soon as we arrived. However, when we saw our room we were blown away by the views over Lake Garda from our balcony. The breakfast each day had so much choice, from various fresh breads,cereals, cooked meats, cheese, yoghurts etc. We have read various write ups about the distance to Malcesine square but we took less than 5 minutes to get there. As well as all this the staff were very friendly and helpful. Malcesine is such a beautiful place that we will visit again and we will certainly stay at the Casa Popi again.

Hotel drirekt an der Hauptstrasse. Keine Nacht geschlafen. Zimmer sehr stark nach Chemie gerochen.Mussten über 1 Stunde draussen sitzen und Tür vom Zimmer geöffnet lassen.
Wifi funktionierte nicht auf dem Tablet.nach mehrmaligem fragen unhöfliche und abweissende Antworten. Nicht genug Parkplätze für PKW s. Entweder die ganze Woche mit den gleichen Handtüchern oder 3 euro pro Tag. Nie wieder casa popi.

Zdecydowanie polecamy nocleg w hotelu Casa Popi. Spędziliśmy w nim 2 noce. Pokój z widokiem na przepiękne jezioro Garda, mozna je podziwiac z balkonu (2 krzesla i stolik). Niestety tuz pod balkonem przebiega glowna droga ktora prowadzi dookola jeziora wiec halas z ulicy jest dosc glosny. W pokoju jest wentylator nad lozkiem ktory troche lagodzi upaly (35 stopni) ale wiaodmo, ze nie spelni takiej funkcji jak klimatyzator. Świetna lokalizacja, 5 min piechota do urokliwego typowo włoskiego miatseczka Malcesine (mnostwo restauracji knajpek i sklepikow). Droga z hotelu do Malcesine niestety nie ma chodnika, trzeba isc skrajem drogi lub wybrac dluzsza trase blizej jeziora (najpierw z hotelu trzeba wyjść w lewo kilka minut i dopiero skręcić w prawo w ulice idaca w kierunku miasta. Tuz przed miasteczkiem malcesine znajduje sie wejscie do kolejki wjezdzajacej na Monte Baldo (zdecydowanie warto zaplacic za wjazd). Rano w hotelu bezplatne sniadanie (kanapki, wedlina, ser, platki, owoce i jogurt) oraz kawa (calkiem niezła). W hotelu widac ze maja duzo Gosci z Niemiec. Po drugiej stronie hotelu (nie od ulicy) znajduje sie basen i piekny ogrod - idealny na odpoczynek w cieniu pod drzewem. Dodatkowym atutem jest restauarcja/pizzeria Da Gigi ok. 50 m od hotelu. Pyszne makarony i pizza (samemu wybiera sie wszystkie dodatki) - ceny niewygorowane a jedzenie pyszne.

Für einen Kurztrip geeignet!

Insgesamt entspricht die Unterkunft der Beschreibung und für einen kurzen Trip an den Gardasee ist das Hotel gut geeignet.

Frühstück und Zimmer beinhalten das Nötigste und ins Zentrum sind es ca. 5 Minuten.
Täglich frische Handtücher im seeehr kleinen Badezimmer kosten extra und im Sommer ist es richtig schwül im Zimmer, da nur ein Ventilator vorhanden ist.

Parkplätze sind beschränkt, sehr eng und direkt an der Hauptstraße liegend.

Die Herzlichkeit und die Bemühungen der beiden Damen/Inhaberinnen sind toll.

Nice Hotel with beautiful garden and good location

The garden is very awesome, the pool is clean and has the perfect temperature. The hotel staff is very nice and the breakfast is better then it is usual for this prize in italy. Please check if you have a room to the street, because the street is loud, but the view over the lake is nice. If you have problems with the loudness of street book a room to the garden, because you will not hear the street on this side of the Hotel. Rooms are very clean. The interior is a bit old but very ok. All in all we had a pleasend journey and will go next time again in this hotel.

Casa Popi / Gardasjön

Malcesine är en gammal by vid Gardasjön, hotellet ligger nära det lilla centrumet som har gott om butiker och restauranger både trevligt och mysigt.hotellet har även en liten pool om man inte vill gå ner till sjön. Det är litet med en hel del trappor men p plats utanför huset. Bra och vänligt bemötande.

Ein kleines, aber liebevoll gepflegtes Hotel, das allerdings nicht für lärmempfindliche Gäste geeignet ist.
Zimmer nicht auf der Seeseite zu empfehlen, da die Hauptstraße direkt am Haus vorbeiführt. Frühstück ist echt italienische Art. Manches 3* kann da nicht mithalten.

Excellent hotel in Malcesine

I enjoyed every minute in Casa Popi. Stayed there for a week. Lovely garden and very nice breakfast. Top service from the family running the hotel. Will definitely stay there next time I go to Malcesine.

no pudimos hospedarnos en este hotel porque llegamos tarde para el horario del check in. El personal sin embargo accedió a devolvernos el dinero de nuestra reservación como una excepción, ya que fue nuestro error el no leer las condiciones del hotel. Es importante considerar que tiene un horario de atención para recibir a los huéspedes.

Super lækkert ophold. Dog skal man overveje om man vil have udsigt over søen inkl. støv fra hovedvejen. Eller ro med udsigt til svømmebassinet.

Personalet er meget servicemindet og imødekommende.

Die Beurteilungen für das Hotel sprechen für sich

Wenn man im Kopf hat unter 3-4 Sterne sollte man in Italien nicht buchen, - dann findet man das Popi in den Suchmaschinen nie. Ganz bescheiden gibt es sich einen Stern, bietet aber was Haus, Service und Zimmer anbelangt, sicher die Qualifikation eines 4-Sterne Hotels. Lediglich das Frühstück könnte variabler sein, - zumal man ja wohl meist länger dort ist. So hat alles bestens gepasst. Gerne wieder.

einfaches aber sehr schönes Hotel in guter Lage

Einfaches dennoch schönes Hotel in guter Lage. Bis zum Strand nur etwa 200 Meter und ins Stadtzentrum ca. 500m.
Wer großen Wert auf Ruhe legt, sollte Zimmer zur Gartenseite nehmen da die zur Seeseite anliegende Hauptstraße ziemlich laut ist.
