Everything was good, and the staff was very helpful when asked. The one surprising fault was that the coffee from the machines during breakfast was really bad. It's ground fresh, but the milk substitute tastes terrible. Truly the worst I've had in Italy so far. I've had very good coffee from machines in other countries in Europe.

We enjoyed our stay at this older, but well maintained hotel. It is located lakefront right by the ferry docks which makes it very convenient for those with limited mobility and for those with luggage and don’t want to struggle with it on the cobblestone streets. It also has an elevator/ lift. Despite the location near the docks, we were never disturbed at all by noise. The hotel has air conditioning and a lovely breakfast. The staff is wonderful - always pleasant and most accommodating. We enjoyed the selection of restaurants close by, as well.

Excellent location, staff were friendly, room was quite small. Wall were very thin, we could hear everything the neighbours were doing. It was supposed to be a side lake view, but there was a huge tree blocking line of sight.

For a 3 star hotel, this is top tier. Everything you need, closest to the lake you'll get and the bed has so far been the best during my Italy trip. It is a bit dated, but that's expected and acceptable. The price is moreso the luxury of proximity than facilities. The breakfast was as good as a 5 star hotel. Would go here again if in Malcesine.

The location is perfect. And my only concern is that the room is not air conditioned. A fan would have solved the problem. It was wonderfully cool at night but, during the day, quite muggy, even with open windows.

Breakfast was limited and poor quality. The beds were not very comfortable and the hotel interior is dated. However, it is in a great location in Malcesine old town, right next to the dock, and our room had lovely views over Lake Garda from our balcony. It was also reasonably priced.

Fantastic Stay

We had a fantastic stay here, the staff across the hotel are absolutely fantastic, always friendly and Super helpful a true credit to the hotel. The hotel is in a perfect location, close to everything around the town and right on the lake, the food for breakfast has enough choice as to not be too much. The room we stayed in (324) was a pretty standard size room with a great view of the cobblestone streets below, easy to watch the world go by. The bathroom was to be fair very small (especially for a bigger guy like me) but how long do you want to spend in the bathroom whilst you are away?!? I would highly recommend this hotel. Many thank yous to the staff that also organised a bottle of wine (which was very nice) in our hotel room when we arrived and a printed card as we were there to celebrate our wedding anniversary 😊

Hotel Malcesine

Hotel is located right in the centre of Malcesine with great access to all areas.
The hotel is very dated and looks tired however it is clean and staff are very friendly and helpful.
The balcony is very small with only a garden chair to sit on. The court yard is used by the hotel restaurant and is very noisy both early in the morning 05.30 and late at night when the restaurant has finished. The room we stayed in was very cold and the view of the lake was very restricted due to the trees in the court yard. Personally wouldn't stay here again

Amazing location in the centre of town, staff were very friendly and helpful. Décor and furnishings are typical for a hotel of this star rating in this area, not cutting edge but perfectly comfortable. Plenty of choice at breakfast. Overall, great value for money, we'd certainly visit again.

Hotel is very clean decor traditional if you want chic/boutique this isn't for you some of the rooms have bedrooms up a steep flight of stairs on a mezanine floor not good if you're elderly and have walking difficulties we were given this room but when I explained problem to reception they gave me a suitable room immediately no problem all staff friendly and helpful food good but the breakfast was the same everyday! The hotel has a mixture of ages not just oldies I can recommend this hotel.

Hotel located close to the center of Malcesine in front of the lake Garda, but just a few rooms have a lake view. The breaksfast was good for 3*.

The main problem at the summer is the air conditioning in the rooms. The temperature was above 34C, this kind of hotels should be prohibited for the unsafe service. People with diseases could even die in such environmental conditions.

Great terrace & location but need renovation

The double with large terrace looking onto Lago di Garda is why I picked this hotel & didn't regret it. For the price I paid I wasn't expecintg 5* luxury & I didn't receive it. Looks like it has not been decorated/renovated since the 1990's, but everything worked just fine. Location is excellent and breakfast was good with hot/cold choices. If I came again would opt for a hotel with more comforts.

This is a typical hotel, complete with indifferent staff in (semi) attendance but what makes it magic is its location...on the waters edge! Also right next to the dock for the ferry. No coffee or tea in the room means you have to duck down to the dining room for 1st cuppa in the morning. Very adequate breakfast included in the price.

The only drawback was the wooden stairs in the room. These were very steep and quite noisy. We could here the people in the next room using them, especially at night with the bathroom being downstairs. Other than that I couldn't fault the room for the price we paid.

Desperately in Need of a Refurb

Great location but a pity that the hotel is in desperate need of refurbishment. In October, we booked two rooms with lake view for June and on arrival we were asked if we were all together so we said yes thinking they would put us on the same floor, instead one room was in the main hotel and we were put in an annex. One room didn't have lake view at all and the other had a balcony but there was a big tree blocking the view. In the annex there is no lift so had to carry our cases up four flights of stairs. The room was very dusty, the lights over the bed were caked in dust, there was a hole in the bathroom door, the plug hole in the shower was all rusty, walls were full of marks and the bedspreads were all stained. We complained and requested to change rooms, but there wasn't any available until the following day. We were assured by the receptionist that another room would be available but after being out for most of the day, nothing had been done, so had to chase again and was eventually moved to another room in the main hotel. This room was slightly better but still very tired. The cream settees in the reception were dirty and desperately needed cleaning. The toilets in Reception were very poor with cracked floor and wall tiles/cracked toilets and generally dirty. Breakfast was ok if you didn't mind sharing it with the flies as nothing was kept covered up. Flies could be seen in bread/cheese/meats. No air conditioning. Not what you would expected more from a central hotel.

The hotel was as I say basic but good. Could have dne with a fridge and wifi available in the room. Receptionist was good but not always very talkative. the relief receptionist on tuesday afternoon verged on being rude and unhelpful. As a place to base ourselves it was fine and we would go back there.

Wonderful holiday

This hotel is a fairly old fashioned typical Italian hotel. We requested a lakeside room and received a room with a private terrace, fantastic!!!!!!!!!! The receptionist was bilingual and very helpful. The service and food was lovely and very reasonably priced. If you want posh modern avoid but if like us traditional Italian the go for it I would go back again awesome well done!!!!!!!

Average Hotel in Excellent Location

The hotel us ideally located right on the shores of Lake Garda in Malcesine a lovely traditional quaint Town. But in June the temps reached 37degrees and with no air conditioning in the rooms sleeping was impossible. Clean hotel, traditional furnishings, reasonably priced all you need!

Terrible, hotels.com are a disgrace

Terrible, terrible, terrible. Booked 8 months before departure. Was emailed day before departure to be told that the hotel water pump failed and they could not accommodate us. Was on the phone uh until 1am. Eventually put in an apartment for 4 days then hotel room for 3 days. We went to hotel malceskne and spoke with people at the hotel to be told they have not had any problems with the water and in fact they had simply overbooked. I suspect that when this happens the hotel will always honour the more profitable booking.....so watch out if you book early to save money. We have contacted hotels.com customer service twice and are still awaiting a response three weeks later. Will never use them again. Totally stressful. Hotels.com you are a disgrace!!

Don't bother!

After booking 4 months in advance 2 days before we were due to travel our booking was cancelled due to over booking. Cue lots of stress to try and find a new hotel so we could attend a friends wedding. Stay away! They also did the same to another couple in the same wedding party.

We did have a problem with the booking, not the fault of Hotel Malcesine, and the hotel staff were very helpful in resolving this. For our second night we had a room with a Balcony overlooking the lake. It is a super hotel and a great place to experience Malcesine.

In urgent need of updating

Very 70's rooms which are tiny
No air con, no mini fridge, no tea/coffee or kettle
Very hard beds in fact nothing in the way of comfort at all and when it's hot the rooms become unbearably hot and stuffy to the point where you can't sleep
If I rented a basic bedsit it would have more creature comforts than this place
It urgently needs to be brought into the 21st century , I don't go on holiday and spend lots of money to slum it!

On the plus side it has a perfect location and the lakeside restaurant is pretty good with nice friendly staff

Good all round tourist hotel. Right next to pretty boat harbour, restaurants all around you, located in the most stunning town of Malcensine - would recommend but don't expect 5* but great mid range hotel. Will go back.

Had a short 4 day break here 11 years after our last stay at this very hotel.Things have improved greatly at the hotel.Malcesine is a quaint cobbled town with lots of bars.We could sit all day at a waterside bar and people watch as the tourists came off the boats.

There have to be better hotels in Malcesine.

The room was very cramped although proably adequate for a 'tourist' hotel. In place of air-conditioning, only a fan was provided. Unfortunately the all prevailing smell of cooked fish in the common parts of the hotel was far from pleasant which caused us to eat elsewhere. Breakfast was probably the worst experience we have had in over 30 years of travelling in Europe; the cold options were limited and, worryingly, the cheese and meats didn't appear to have been refreshed or covered over the five days of our stay. The hot options were ok if your preference was for frankfurters and sauerkraut! Terrace bar staff were inattentive. Internet was offered at a price but only available in reception and bar area, all of which was a waste of time as it proved to be un-accessible!

We were in Malcesine for a wedding the hotel was actually better than I expected having read other reviews. It's quiet with clean rooms maybe a little dated for some tastes but all in all a decent little hotel. Location is right next to the marina on the lake perfect to explore the town.

NIce hotel, super location.

Wonderful location, hotel well situated next to Lake and centre of Malcesine. Restaurants, bars etc. all close by but very quite at night as there is no traffic through the cobbled lanes. Lovely to be able to relax on the veranda overlooking the Lake and magnificent views. Hotel staff very attentive, friendly and extremely helpful, nothing was too much trouble for them. Cleaning staff excellent, always there to say good morning to and when you returned to your room after breakfast it had always been cleaned, fresh towels provided etc. Breakfast was good with plenty of choice to suit all tastes. Rooms a bit on the small size but you are not paying 5 star money to stay there. We were attending a wedding at the Castle in Malcesine during our stay which was a wonderful occasion and made our holiday even more special. We will definitely return to Malcesine and would have no hesitation is staying at this hotel again.

Avoid at all costs

On arrival the hotel did not have the balcony room we had reserved by email 4 months earlier. When we showed them the printed email confirmation they denied sending it! After an hours argument at reception we were given the option to find a different hotel and they would not charge us for the room, which we did - the Hotel Vega a couple of doors down and still on the lake (great hotel). We were shown the room they had offered us but it was tiny and very old, with a small window. Whilst at reception we noted several other unhappy guests, mostly complaining about the Wi-Fi. It was only possible to speak to the \"management\" by phone as they are located somewhere else in Italy. All of the comments you see from other people are correct - you have to pay up front for the room and a city tax (I guess this is because they have so many people wanting a refund or refusing to pay after their stay), Wi-Fi is payable, reception staff speak very little English, rooms are small and very old, the location is great but there are other hotels nearby with the same view, better balconies, free car parking and a pool. I would never go back to this hotel.

Good hotel -excellent location

This Hotel is older style but clean and well kept. The key attribute is it's excellent location with great lake and mountain views and an outdoor terrace built out over the lake. There is no hotel parking but like most town centre lake side hotels there are a range of parking alternatives nearby at 1.30-1.50 euro/hr daytime- many are free at night. Malcesine is a great base to view or visit the mountainous north of the lake and ferries leave from next to the hotel. Being by the harbour and in the old town is a big plus for this hotel. The rooms had no air/con so were fine in mid May but may be rather warm in mid summer. Hotel restaurant prices were similar or less than local restaurants and quality was fine. We had a B&B deal and breakfast was fine.For location and good value for money the hotel is difficult to beat- take plenty of change as car parking here and everywhere else around the lake is metered.

Very Good,especially if you stay in Lake view Room

Efficient Management and Staff.
Food is versatile, good quality, reasonably priced and service was friendly and fast.
Decor and Style of Lounges, Restaurants and Bedrooms are from the sixties \"Art-Deco\" but adequate.
Some members of the staff(Especially at the Bar) must be made aware of their loud voices and constant chatting and sometimes arguing among themselves.
Will go back again without hesitation.
Recommended.

Our second stay at this hotel was equally enjoyable and we have usually received great help from the receptionists (when we arrived we did get the impression that the receptionist had possibly had a bad day). The bedroom and bathroom were very clean and always maintained to a high standard. The choice of food at breakfast time is always appetising and plentiful and dining on the lakeside terrace is a great treat (apart from the times when other diners choose to smoke which does spoil the atmosphere but we found this an outdoor hazard in Italy this year), the 10% discount offered to hotel residents is a great bonus and we have never felt the need to dine elsewhere - why would you with such a view to enjoy?

Great location, Nice staff, Amazing town!

We enjoyed our stay. The staff were really helpful and spoke very good english. The location is very nice with lots of good restaurants nearby. The breakfast was very good too! Could definitely do with air conditioning though, it was very hot in the room and the fan didn't quite cut it. They didn't have an iron we could use either which was a bit strange.

Great location, simple hotel

The hotel is not fancy by any token. My, rather expensive, room contained a single bed, a small television, a desk and an en-suite. No air-conditioning, but for my short stay, it was not required. The location of the hotel is superb and the staff were friendly also. If you are okay with an outdated hotel, this place is good - however, if you are after opulence and modern style, seek elsewhere.

Nice location but not a great hotel

The taxi fare from the hotel to Verona airport is €100 (the cheapest) you can get two buses but this takes 2 hours whereas the taxi takes about an hour if there's no traffic. Our transfers were not included so we were shocked to learn the price of the taxi.

The location of the hotel was ideal and we had a lovely view of the lake and mountains from our balcony. The room was very small, much smaller than shown on the Expedia website.

We had maid service everyday and they did a good job. The towels were horrible, so I ended up buying my own.

Breakfast was not very good. The cooked breakfast was aimed at the German tourists but the ommelette was like rubber and so were the frankfurters. The continental breakfast was better but is left sitting out from about 7am so if you come down to breakfast at around 9am it means the food has been left out open for a long time.

The staff were very nice and helpful but I don't think I would stay here again.

Spectacular location!

We had two rooms - a double and a triple. The triple had a balcony and we could look out onto Lake Garda. The hotel staff and attached restaurant staff were so nice to us. The rooms were immaculate. We thought there would be a problem with parking but it turns out there was plenty of parking nearby. The location is right on the edge of the pedestrian zone and very convenient to all the sites, shops and restaurants in Malcesine.

Hotel is in a great location. I would not hesitate in going back there again. The only thing missing was a swimming pool but there is a lake on there door step. I've seen other reviews about this hotel and they complain about the lack of air conditioning, it had a fan in the room and you could open the windows. I had no problem talking to any of the staff and the hotel was kept clean and tidy. I did not eat at the hotel because there was plenty of places to go to in malcesine.

A very small single room, with everything jammed in in a slightly random manner, No aircon, which meant it got very hot in the recent warm spell.
My room didn't get the lake view either...
Breakfast had a reasonable choice, but the WiFi (an extra fee) was pathetically slow
Excellent location, but don't overlook the hotels slightly away from town, as there are very pleasant lakeside paths for a reasonable distance on either side of Malcesine.

Very very small room

We booked this hotel months ago and asked for a lake view room. 2 months ago relatives of ours also booked a room at the same hotel and paid the same price as us. They were given a lake view room and we were given a back room. On arrival we asked for a lake view room and were told there were none available. We arrived before our relatives and feel as we booked much earlier and arrived earlier we should have been allocated the lake view room. The room our relatives had also had a balcony, ours did not. They had booked for 5 days, we had booked for 7 days. The room was a narrow corridor with a mezzanine floor with a bed, that's it. Awful accommodaton, friendly staff and good food. Would not recommend this hotel on the accomodation only.

The Hotel Malcesine - lovely position by lake.

Very nice hotel, centrally positioned in old town on the edge of the lake. The only downside is if you stay in the main hotter season, there is no air con in the rooms and was only just bearable at night in September. Would stay again.

Brilliant location, nice food, the restaurant was busy every single night we were there. We had a lovely lake view with a terrace-- beautiful, only thing it was lacking was air conditioning, apart from that then we couldnt fault the hotel.

Malcesine is a beautiful small village and is accessible to other places on Lake Garda. Wonderful atmosphere, with street performers. Good ferry service although rather pricey. Much more economical to travel on local buses.

Hotel Malcesine, Lake Garda, Italy

We had a very pleasant stay at the Malcesine Hotel.
The Hotel is situated on the lake with magnificent views. The staff were really pleasant creating a welcoming atmosphere. There wasn't a safe in the room, but it wasn't a problem carrying our passports in my bag. We would definitely stay there again.

Outdated rooms but cheap enough for Lake side, helpful receptionist. No wifi' or internet..

Some of features described by hotel info are not avail: no 24 hr reception, often keys unattended, no security boxes, no English tv (until requested tech' switch on).. Telephone missing from room! (until requested)..etc (april 2011)

Cleaning pre arrival left much to be desired.. This hotel is not family-run ( in the best and genuine sense) which is shame - great location but not the most relaxing ambience as somewhat dated and dusty rooms..staff trying to be helpful' too little too late.. No internet at reception even for desk staff' - very odd!

A WALK ROUND LAKE GARDA

On a \"14 hotels in 16 nights/try and walk round the entire lake\" trip so pretty qualified to comment on 2 and 3 star hotels in various towns around the lake. The Hotel Malcesine was the only one to offer us a choice of rooms, the lady on reception could have just given us the keys to a room like all the others did but a choice was nice! Great location right on the lake and in the middle of town but no traffic noise. Also the only hotel to offer a \"cooked\" breakfast. Good value and would definately recommend it.

We arrived at the hotel to be told there were no double rooms left which was a bit of a downer seeing as we booked early January. The German tourists seemed to have all the double rooms with the lake view. Once in our room we saw the twin beds had been pushed together so that wasnt too bad. The room itself was sparcely furnished with a wardrobe and a desk and the twin beds.The bathroom was quite small with no bath but as I prefer a shower it wasnt a problem. The best thing about this hotel is its location.Right on the lake side with tremendous views.It is also very handy for restaurants and the bank which was needed as the prices here are a bit steep. The hotel has a restaurant too with a handy 20% discount for guests. The breakfast in the hotel was pretty good with all the usual cereals and bacon and sausage as well as cheese and a selection of hams.You can have as much tea coffee and juice as you would like which is always handy. The town itself is very 'Old Italy' with cobbled streets and lovely views.However you need to be pretty fit as the hills are a bit steep!!! I would say dont travel here with young kids as there isnt really a lot for them to do. This is a 'couples resort' with nice walks and not too much rowdy nightlife. Overall a nice place well worth the cash we paid.

Great place, super staff. Priced right. Breakfast was not worth the time. Better to go off to a local coffee bar. No AC but you are right on the water so that is no problem. They have a delightful dining room right on the water and the food was fresh, good and priced affordably.

Great location, shame about the hotel!

Arrived very late, nobody on reception to greet us (supposed to be a 24 hour reception.) Bar staff did their best to advise us of parking and check us in. Hotel was in desperate need of modernisation. Our room was small, clean but no air con. Noisy on the street. Breakfast was ok, stick to continental as bacon/sausage was greasy and unappetising. It's a shame as it has a fab central location but it's let down by the standard of the accommodation.

Exceptable hotel - Good value

Hotel Melcesine predominately caters for the German tourist market - everything geared towards them - breakfast excellent quantity and very continental! Our room - not the best, no air con or fan so very hot at night. In town centre so can be noisy for early sleepers. I would stay again purely on price!

It was in a wonderful setting and the staff was friendly and helpful. A perfect spot to enjoy the local area and explore on foot. The room was very nice and the balcony was too even though it was a community balcony. I would stay here again as the price was great for what was offered.

stayed 4 nights! the big plus about this hotel is its location. really good location on the lake front. and just around the corner from 'Captains Place' and all the hotspots. rooms were adequate but dated. and theb big minus was they were not sound proof. but all in all had a lovely stay in hotel malcesine

Die Lage ist fantastisch, ein bisschen laut auf der Terrasse, was aber nicht weiter gestört hat.
Das Frühstück war ausreichend, für jeden was dabei ( sehr nette Frühstücks dame ).
Ein junger Kellner hatte die Woche über leider täglich schlechte Laune, der Rest war nett.
Zimmer sowie das Hotel waren sauber, aber sehr abgewohnt.
Würde aber wieder kommen, da Malcesine ein schöner Ort ist.

Stanza con soppalco non grande, ma comoda. Abbiamo capito che il condizionatore si accendeva solo se la finestra era chiusa (biglietto messo solo in ascensore e non in camera) dopo aver chiesto in reception! Il parcheggio in centro più vicino, per un giorno 25€.

In the centre of Malcesine which makes it very convenient but also quite loud from the street and square crowds.

Lovely view from our balcony and fantastic to be able to swim right from the hotel’s terrace.

Other hotels are more suitable for small kids but and longer status but with our teenagers and for a short stay it was great.

Too bad breakfast must be eaten indoors.

A really nice corner room with lake view, just by the harbour. Really cool bathroom. Breakfast outdoors, very nice. Cooling was almost non existing, so very warm in the room.

Fantastisk beliggenhed ved havnen. Vi manglede en altan,men benyttede i stedet hotellets lobby,som varok. Personalet var helt fantastisk,og restauranten nogenlunde god. Hotellets indretning er gammeldags, men samtidig hyggeligt.
