This is a beautiful Ryokan! Best experience in Japan. The water in the Onsen is composed of minerals that help the skin. There is also a massage chair foot massage device. Highly recommended! The Ryokan gives you the feeling of being back in Old Japan with a 5 star service.

Staff was incredibly hospitable. They saw us arriving by taxi and immediately came outside to greet us and help with luggage. Then were taken inside to some tea and a warm towel to warm up. Extremely communicative and make you feel very comfortable.

This ryokan was a top experience of our two-week trip in Japan. Such a charming and unique oasis and glimpse of traditional Japanese life. The rooms and facilities are even better than pictured. An onsen is included in the price, and you can go as often as you'd like. We highly recommend their nine-course meal that you can reserve (for an extra fee) up to two days prior to your stay. They even accommodated our group member's gluten allergy. The ryokan is easily accessible by bus from Kanazawa station (the folks at the Tourist Information Center make it easy to find), and you're greeted by staff the minute you get off the bus, as the stop is right there. We cannot say enough about this experience. It was definitely worth its value and will forever be a highlight of our time. Thank you, everyone at Motoyu Ishiya, for making our stay a memorable one!

Amazing ryokan!

We had such an amazing time at this ryokan. A bit secluded just outside of Kanazawa it allowed us to just relax and enjoy the moment. The architecture and interior of the ryokan and its garden is outstanding! Every detail matters! It has a beautiful onsen, comfortable rooms and great food. We had the best time at dinner, everyone was heartwarmingly friendly and the food was served in such a nice way! I was especially grateful that they cooked an individual vegetarian meal for me! Highly recommended!

Authentic dinner/ryokan and onsen experience

This was a great stay in Kanazawa. Traditional ryokan with great onsen. It is not downtown but a taxi from the Morimoto station (two stops from jR Kanazawa station) is only 1500 yen. What would have been nice to know prior to the stay was that there is a single JR bus from the hotel to downtown, sights and the JR station at 9:21am. The arrival at the JR station is a little after 10:00 am for planning purposes. Dinner is a big part of the experience. We enjoyed it but felt that one night was sufficient- especially because you get a similar experience at breakfast. We were able to find a fabulous meal downtown our second night.

A different experience, but worth trying!

A different experience from any hotel I’ve ever stayed before, but definitely worth trying. The level of service from the staff is amazing (they will go and wave goodbye to you as you leave!).

The staff was very friendly and helpful. The spa was clean and nice. Breakfast was very delicious. It's a bit far from Kanazawa city, but ir was perfect for a relaxing getaway. Highly recommended.

Mixed experience

We had a mixed experience at this ryokan. First, our expectations were high both because of the other reviews of this place and my excellent experience at a different Japanese ryokan 5 years ago. When we arrived we were assigned a tour guide who was an elderly, somewhat gruff woman who didn't speak a word of English. She rapidly showed us where our room was, and where the onsen was (bathhouse) but was in such a rush, and communication was so poor, that she failed to show us many important things such as the customs for the bathhouse, where to go for dinner (it was in our room previously), and how to operate things in the room. She was also our server at dinner, with the same rushed, gruff manner, which included failing to remove dirty dishes as each new course was served. Add to this that dinner was not very goo, and we only had one sitting chair (vs the floor) and no hot water in our room and we were quite unhappy. But once we complained the next day they fixed the hot water, gave us a new chair, and changed our server to a delightful young woman who at least used Google Translate to communicate. And the second dinner was excellent (I included photos). Based on our first day I wouldn't recommend this ryokan. Based on the next 24 hours I would.

Very nice ryokan but remotely located

Very nice ryokan , but too far away from Kanazawa centre . The are only 2 buses in the morning ana 2 afternoon. Taxis are quite expensive there. And if you are tourists with luggages it is not very convenient

Lovely traditional ryokan- not to be missed!

If you want a traditional Japanese experience, stay at Motoyu Ishiya Ryokan! From the warm arrival with tea to the inhouse hot springs, this is a lovely and not-to-be-forgotten experience. Staff is friendly and accommodating. All public areas have Zen views from the windows. It was truly a highlight of our trip!

Shame I can only give 5/5

This hotel is amazing, great views, scenery, onsen and staff are all great, this is a real Ryokan not like the ones that pretend to be.
Staff waited for us to leave to wave us off and were very helpful, tried so hard to talk to us in English, was great all round.

Nice Ryokan outside Kanazawa

This Ryokan is nice and really traditional. Pro: typical, in-house onsen. Con: A bit far from Kanazawa (takes good 20-30 min by Taxi to get there and about 1.5-2k JPY). Stayed only one night, loved the onsen, but could not eat breakfast as I had to leave too early (6.45am - breakfast starts at 7.30).

A special place

Located a short bus ride outside of Kanazawa city, the ryokan is surrounded by forest and was a lovely place to stay. The tatami rooms were large, service was incredible and the onsen perfectly relaxing. Highly recommended!

・宿の設備など
２００年の歴史ある宿で、和風の雰囲気を味わえることを期待した。
おおむね期待通りの雰囲気の宿だった。
趣のあるお堂や庭があるので、夜間にライトアップするともっと良くなると思った。

・課題
今回はエクスペリアで予約したが、そもそも石屋に連絡が行っていなかった。
IT系が苦手なのかもしれないが、金沢市を含めインバウンドや観光に力を入れる以上言い訳にはならない。
若いスタッフがいなくても宿泊客との接点を予約サイトに任せて、十分な確認が取れない体制になっているのは問題といえる。
ITに振り回されるのではなく、宿がITを利用しているという意識をもって取り組んでいただきたい。

とても趣のあるお宿です。
能の舞台を見ながら頂くお食事も加賀特産のお野菜などを使用してあり、普段食べた事のない食材で美味しかったです。
温泉も本当にコーヒーですか？と思う様な色でしっとりとしています。

金沢郊外の洒落た温泉宿。みごとな加賀料理を堪能。

金沢の町中は人が多いので、郊外の山の中にある温泉宿を選びました。大成功。庭にある能舞台を見ながらの夕食は伝統的な加賀料理の洒落たアレンジ。ここでしか食べられないすばらしい夕食でした。もちろん朝食もすてきでした。

とってもいい旅館でした。

とっても雰囲気のいい旅館で良かったです。お風呂も広々としていて、昔ながらな感じが良かったです。ただ、お風呂は脱いだスリッパ用の下駄箱があるといいかなと思いました。
またお料理もとっても美味しかったです。虫が入っている事を伝えると、別のお料理を代わりに出してくださったのですが、そのお料理が何か分からず聞くと担当の仲居さんも分からず「食べてみてください」と言われてしまったのが？？って感じでした。
また、能舞台を見たくて案内された大広間へ行くとまだ夕食中で「いつ頃なら？」と聞くと「そんなの分かりません」と言う感じに冷たくあしらわれてしまいました。
能舞台をウリにしているので見学できるのだと思っていたのに、とっても残念でした。
もちろん対応が素晴らしい方がほとんどだったので、そのような方々が際立ってしまい印象に残ってしまいました。。

金沢市から少し離れた静かな山の中で、
ホッと心が落ち着きます❀.*･ﾟ
お夕食が何を食べても美味しくて感動♡
ただ、蟹クリームチーズグラタンは少し脂っこいのか、大人には重いです。
若者には喜ばれると思いますが。
お風呂も気持ち良く、源泉のパックで更にお肌がスベスベ、もちもちになりました。
旅館の雰囲気も良いし、
旅館のスタッフさんも親切で、
朝早く目覚めてしまった私に、開放時間よりも早めに朝のお風呂用意して下さいました♪
とても居心地が良かったです。

Wonderful experience!
Staffs are super nice~ They always smile and be friendly to everyone.
Rooms are quiet, tidy and comfortable.
The onsen❨hot spring❩ is amazing as well!!!
Also, the food❨dinner and breakfast❩are delicate, fresh and delicious.
A traditional Japanese environment is presented. I love the Japanese garden view and decoration.
I will definitely recommend 元湯石屋 to others!

最悪なサービス

不評な口コミは削除してるのでしょうか？評価が高かったこちらの宿に、外国からのお客様をお連れしましたが、本当に最悪でした。
スタッフの方は、わたしたちが通訳しているのをさえぎって、日本語でまくしたてて急かしてきます。
夕食もこちらのペースを全く無視して次から次へと。
ドリンクメニューを渡されて、二秒後に、ビールですか、お酒ですか、ウーロン茶ですか、と、、まだ目を通してもいないのに、待ってといっても、どうしますか？を連呼する始末。
料理も次から次へとどんどんだされ、まだ始まったばかりなのに、メインのお肉を焼く鉄板に火をつけようとする始末。お酒も楽しみたいので、少しゆっくり出してくださいとお願いしたところ、熱いものは熱いうちに！と言われテーブルの上はいっぱいに、、熱いメインを熱いうちにとだされても、まだ前菜も途中なのにテーブルで冷めるだけです。
それを言っても、文句は厨房に言ってくれ、と、、。お客様の状況を厨房に伝えるのが客室係りの仕事なのに、本当に横柄で、流れ作業で、早く料理をだして早く食べて早くでてけと、言う雰囲気が伝わってきました。
みんな唖然としてました。

おもてなしの伝統を売りにしているのに、信じられません。
ほっとする間もなく、本当に疲れてしまいました。
わざわざ街の中心地から離れて、特別な旅館を外国からきた友人に経験させてあげたかったのに。。

この金額をとっておいてこんなサービスをするなんて、街中の普通のホテルを予約して、夕食も別に行った方がよっぽどましです。

わたしたちが行ったときは、他のお客様はほとんどが外国人グループでしたが、理由がわかりました。
こんなサービスをしていて、日本人に見捨てられて、外国人相手に古い旅館を売りにしてやってるんだなと。

責任者にクレームをつけたところ、お詫びをされて担当者を変えてくれました。
ですが、大切な時間は戻ってきません。お酒と食事と会話を楽しみながら久々の再会を喜び過ごしたかった時間は、焦らされてお酒も選べず、黙々と食べさせられ、疲れる残念な時間になりました。ぶち壊されました。
どれだけ謝られても時間は戻りません。そういったことをきちんと考え、これ以上がっかりする人がでないことを願います。

カップルにもおすすめの老舗旅館

金沢の市街へのアクセスがよく、温泉もある旅館ということで利用させていただきました。兼六園など市街観光をした後、車で20分ぼどで到着しチェックイン。夕食は六角堂へ出かけ能登牛を堪能し、旅館へ戻って琥珀色の温泉で1日の疲れを癒しました。おもてなしのサービスと最高の朝ごはん、雰囲気のある老舗旅館を彼女と満喫しました。次回は夕食付きプランでまた利用したいです。
