Room little dated but extremely spacious, and very clean. Only comment is lack of USB port. Buffet was adequate but missing the ‘wow’ factor. Property was little far from train station, I think it would be much convenient if the shuttle will bring guess back to hotel instead of just one way to the train station.

I want to start this review off by saying, I WILL be back. My stay at this hotel was almost dreamlike. It's something that I don't want to forget. The room was prepared perfectly, and the service was a 10/10. The breakfasts dinners that were prepared were unique and delicious all around. The staff was kind. I think this hotel and the surrounding town were the perfect getaway from the fast city life. It really gave me time to relax

Stayed 6 nights in a traditional Japanese room with tatami mats in early to mid-November. Location and views were good. Very limited dining options in area. Onsen was good. Cons: room did not have any heat, it was cold in the room and supposedly a heater was available but to be honest that seemed like a fire hazard. The floor futon and blankets provided were warm. Hotel did not provide in room coffee so we bought our own along with coffee mugs. Very old room, bathroom floors creaked and the small chairs and table provided showed their age. Oddly, we received room service the first night but never again—fresh towels, tea packets and snacks were left on a table outside the room for 5 nights which meant our room was not vacuumed or cleaned. We vacated the room each day from 8 am-3 pm. We let the front desk know it was okay to enter the room but to no avail. Room pictures deceptive, maybe it was just the floor or particular room we were given. Nice front desk staff.

The staffwas friendly and accommodating. Talking on the phone was difficult due to language barrier, but there were a couple English speakers on staff that were able to assist us.
The location was perfect. The property is on a cliff overlooking the lake and theres a suspension bridge behind it. Mountain views everywhere. Breakfast was good. I loved our room. It was a little warm, but they were able to give us fans for the room. THE ONSENS WERE AN AMAZING EXPERIENCE! If you have tattoos, either cover them or reserve a private onsen.

Great onsen and service

The hotel is quite retro, think faded grandeur. The staff were very helpful and there is a free shuttle bus to the train station you can book which is very welcome with all the bags. We stayed in the Japanese room and the staff came to lay out the beds beautifully whilst we were dining.
The big plus for this hotel is the onsen and outdoor foot bath cafe with a view. We went on a busy weekend but there was plenty of space and everyone was very friendly to me and my daughter.
We had half board and this was welcome after nearly 2 weeks of finding restaurants every meal time. It was a buffet style with lots of choice though it was the same foods
Over 3 nights we stayed. The breakfast also gave a good selection. They had special kids area for food though my kids loved from all areas.
If your plans are centred around Nikko then perhaps consider hiring a car which we did one day by the train station.

This is our second stay at this hotel. It has fantastic onsens, great Japanese buffet, and the rooms are large and comfortable. Kinu-Tateiwa Otsuribashi, a famous suspension bridge, is right behind the hotel that leads to great sceneries. Hotel is approximately 12 min walk to Kinugawaonsen Station, and offers shuttle bus in the morning to the station by request. Next time we visit Nikko, we definitely go to this hotel again!

Book the Presidential Suite

Loved our stay in the presidential suite! The private onsen on the rooftop balcony was incredible. Room was very spacious and comfortable. Price was great for this room! English was a bit tough but front desk was very helpful. Ate the included traditional Japanese dinner and breakfast for only 1 out of our 2 nights there. You’ll need to be adventurous for those meals! There’s also a great ramen and burger walking spot nearby for a less adventurous meal. The public onsen was gorgeous and not crowded mid-afternoon. We both have a couple tattoos and were okay to enter, and could also use a towel to cover if needed. Booked a couples massage and facial, massage was lymphatic drainage and helped reduce swelling for all those Japanese beers and eats when down in Tokyo. Suspension bridge near the hotel was fun to explore and easy access to a waterfall view. Foot bath at the attached restaurant with a beer was great! Our room shower didn’t work during peak onsen hours and was very outdated. Overall would come here if you’re looking for a remote experience in Japan off the beaten path. Get the presidential suite, you won’t regret it!

Very friendly and helpful staff who spoke English well! Lots of amenities and loved the private onsens. The building was a little outdated and the air conditioner didnt work well so we couldnt get rid of the slight smell the room had. Overall with their breakfasts and views too, I'd come back.

Fantastic Room Deal

I booked a room that has private open air onsen at balcony on the top floor with exquisite view of beautiful Kinugawa River and mountain. This deal offered Kaiseki meals, and surprisingly, I was able to eat everything though one of two nights dinner was massive! Staffs are wonderful, and I was very lucky to see fireworks from right outside of this facility during the weekend event. I've been here 3 times..... I will come back again for sure.

This hotel was a bit hard to get to with 3 luggages to cart around (transferring from JR line to Tobu-Nikko line). However, the hotel staff helped us organised to transfer our luggages to our next hotel in Osaka (additional fees but so worth it for us and we were able to enjoy the Nikko area more freely). We booked our accommodation with kaiseki dinner and breakfast and it was simply devine! Japanese food was served in our own private table away from the crowd and it was another level. Our dinner and breakfast attendant was Freska and she explained our dishes in English. She also spoke Indonesian and Japanese and was so friendly. Our room had a private onsen, two twin beds and the hotel staff set up a futton bedding in the Japanese style living room while we were eating dinner. The room we had was spacious and offered us a peaceful mountain view. The hotel facilities was on the older side but we came for the hot spring experience and we could see this hotel was also popular Japanese families visiting from other parts of Japan.

Nice place and really nice breakfast and dinner. Rooms were traditional Japanese which was really cool to experience. Room had a slight funky smell to it but had a super nice view of the river/mountains. Overall I would stay there again.. No coffee in the room and you had to purchase bottle coffe drinks downstairs and heat them up in a perculator that is all in all japanese and takes a while to figure it out. Really nice staff!

The lady with really short hair at the reception is extremely helpful.
We had breakfast and dinner buffet at the hotel which was great. Our bed was set up after back from the dinner buffet.
We used the private onsen which is worth the value.
You have to take a taxi from the kinugawaonsen station to the hotel.(google map shows 15min walk. Make sure you dont trust that). They provided free shuttles bus to the train station in the morning.
The view from the room is excellent.
We will definitely come back

Wonderful stay for a very reasonable price

My daughter and I love onsens but we were very pleasantly surprised to find ourselves in an upgraded room that was spacious and had a peaceful view. The baths were clean, spacious and uncrowded. We especially liked the outdoor pool with it's tranquil views. We opted for the breakfast and dinner plan and were glad we did as we could just pop down in our yukata, We enjoyed the variety and quality of the buffet style fare. The hotel also offers good and very reasonably priced massages.

The views from our room was awesome. The staff were really nice and the room looked clean. The BAD was the room really stank. Like really really stank. Not sure if we were given a smoking room. I tried to ask and either the staff person didnt understand or it was truly a smoking room but i wasnt given the option to move. The stinch evetnually made our throats hurt so we had to leave the balcony doors and windows open. The dinner was expensive and kind of blah but there were few other options. Our room have virtually no wifi connection. The cafe with a foot bath was nice, the little souvenir shope cute and the suspension bridge fun. Theres really not much in the immediate area. We walked to tubo square wolrd which was very worth it. We stayed gere planning to go to edo wonderlabd but it ended up raining hard all day. All in all i wouldnt stay in this hotel again. Everyone else there was 65-70 and it was probably good for that age range. I guess it ciudk ve a romantic getaway place assuming they have unstinky rooms.

We reserved a Japanese-style room and this hotel surpasses all our expectations: clean and spacious sleeping and sitting rooms, comfortable amenities, friendly staff, great Onsen experience, and great local food (we had their buffet breakfast and dinner). Hotel is only 15-20 minute walk from Kinugawa Onsen Station it it offers a nice shuttle bus to get there. Right next to hotel is the Kinutateiwaotsuri Bridge, a suspension bridge with great views.

The service was good, the rooms were well appointed although western style rooms were a flashback to the 80's heyday of Japan. Stay in a Japanese futon style room. The breakfast was an open buffet but a real case of quantity over quality.

Japanese style Hotel

This hotel is one that caters to those who come to relax. Most all guests are on full board and therefore there is nowhere to have dinner is you haven’t already paid for it. Apparently this is common in this area. The onsen is really, really impressive. It has both indoor and outdoor tubs and complementary toiletries. We were there during a snowstorm in late April and the views were amazing. The room was very Japanese with mats on rattan floors. They provide a very warm fluffy comforter which we were thrilled with. There is a tea service in the room and a large table on which to have your tea. Yakutas were provided and they even had one that fit me!
I would give it a better rating, but for the staff who don’t speak English or speak extremely little. This area, I guess, doesn’t get a lot if foreign tourists which is why we picked it.

The property was ok. The rooms were clean and tidy. The buffet was not so good, especially the dinner.
Kinugawa is NOT a great place to go unless all you care about is onsen baths and being the only foreigner. There are virtually no restaurants for dinner, with so many hotels this is amazing. Much more options in Nikko which is a long long way away.
I would not recommend this town to anybody.

Great staff but the room was old with wallpaper peeling off the walls. The walls are thin and unfortunately we could hear noisy guests above from another country all night walking around. The staff were great and did try to quite them down and apologised many times.

Pretty awesome place.
Train station is walkable distance.
Quiet & Tranquil.
You would be sleeping on futons
A little aged hotel but that gives a very interesting atmosphere to one.
WiFi only available at lobby.
No air conditioning for cold air,but there is for warm air.
About 10km drive,there is a mini town near which have many diners,supermarket & even an arcade!
Would stay again!

First, the positive: The room was renovated! The rest of the hotel is in an absolutely desolate state. Old, worn, and not at all like the pictures on Hotels.com. The onsen, and especially the sauna, are on the verge of collapse. Absolutely unacceptable. The foreign staff, from Nepal or Pakistan, are unfriendly and arrogant—there's no Japanese atmosphere at all. I've been traveling to Japan for onsen 5-7 times a year for over 12 years. But this hotel is a disgrace.

Muy cómodo y todos muy amigables. A mi hijo le encantó el onsen. Todo muy limpio y la comida rica. Si de repente quieres cambiar el estilo de comida, frente al hotel hay unas hamburguesas muy buenas. Para quienes no han estado en este tipo de hoteles antes (como nosotros), los futones los pone el personal del hotel como a las 7pm, así que regresas de tu día y ya está arreglado.

自助餐不錯

因為與兩歲小朋友一同入住，所以訂了這間餐廳是自助餐形式的溫泉酒店，早餐及晚餐都很好，跟其他懷石料形式的比較，與小朋友同行的還是自助餐比較適合。

我們住了一晚訂了豪華日式客房，房間很大，小朋友在榻榻米上跑動很高興。

溫泉區一般，但也很舒適，整體也十分值得推薦。
