Hotel was clean and more than acceptable but wasn’t sparkling either if that makes sense. Our room was great, bed was comfy and plenty of space. The hotel is a little out of the main areas but actually we found it worked so well to get the most out of fully exploring the city. Bus stop was 2 mins away but we always did the 20 min walk to the chain bridge and fully explored the Buda side both day and night as it was all conveniently on our way. It’s not the Ritz, but we absolutely didn’t expect it to be either so more than happy with our stay there.

A good clean hotel with very amenable staff.It is on a busy road but becomes quiet at 9.30ish.Convenient for walking into the city or using the bus (the stop is only 80m away).Perhaps the only downside was a lack of places to eat nearby.
But an excellent stay

Very nice stay in a well maintained hotel. Easy for a short bus ride to the center, or even walking there. The hotel is small, basic breakfast, very clean and comfortable. Nice clean bathroom, very good heating and WiFi. The reception desk was very knowledgeable and always ready to assist and give good advice. Recommended

Gold Hotel is a good value for money, \"no-frills\", clean and comfortable location that is in Buda; but a relaxed walk (30 minutes ) from Pest. Great staff both at the front end and the dining room. Has a hearty breakfast buffet. The only reason for my average rating is that this location did not seem to be a 4 star location..in my opinion. I would reccomend this location for value travellers.

We would go back here again

A small characteristic hotel where the staff were very professional and welcoming. The room was very comfortable and clean. The only disappointment was that there was no tea/coffee making facilities in the room, but there was a fridge and safe. However, the breakfast selection and choice of foods was plentiful and varied.
The hotel is on a slow incline of a hill when walking back from the town (about 15 minutes walk) but well sited.

Very nice family hotel.

Very nice hotel in short distance from old town. bus station 150 m from the hotel.
Excellent breakfast. Somewhat oldish decoration but very clean and we loved it.
The only downside is that it's located on a main road. They did give us a room facing the side but yet you could not open the window because of the noise.

The hotel was only a walking distance to the Budapest Congress Center. And not too far to the City Center. The staff were helpful, I have a good experience in the Hotel. The room was tidy, the bathroom was always clean. The bed was always fixed when we came back to the hotel.

Dont stay there.

When reaching the hotel we found the room to be somewhat clean, could have been cleaner.
There is a minibar, but you are not allowed to use it to put water in. There is not even a kettle in the room for coffee/ tea, let alone any means of heating up food.
There's nowhere in the close area (10 minutes walk) to eat aside from a strip bar, and no grocery store.
After a day we noticed water coming through the window.
When a loud and drunken party came in to one of the floors (unluckily it was ours) the entire floor was awakened at 2AM and there were shouting and singing for over 30 minutes before it stopped.
The closest bus/train stop is also 10 minutes walk, so you have to use taxis (or walk a lot). there's nothing to see in the vicinity, its an old residential part of the city.
After 3 out of 10 days we decided to leave the place.

We spent a week in Budapest and our stay at the Gold Hotel made it delightful. The staff is friendly, helpful and very responsive to any needs.The hotel has been beautifully renovated. It does front a very busy Budapest thoroughfare, but the windows are surprisingly sound dampening. Breakfast was basic, but had a lot of choices. The location is close to bus transit, which is delightfully easy to use, as well as convenient. If you want an authentic stay, outside the touristy areas, this hotel is a real find.

Overall we well enjoyed our stay. Our only complaint is the mounting on the shower head which kept spraying to the shower door. Always fought not to let the bath floor get too wet. Still a nice hotel. The staff is very courteous. This was our second stay in two years. The walk to Buda castle is about 20 to 25 minutes. The Hop on Hop off bus goes to the Citadel which is near the hotel. Suggest buying a pass for the bus.

Great hotel, great location, walking distance to all the Buda points of interest and the baths.
Not many local restaurants but we had a really great meal at the Janos restaurant in Hotel Charles very close by. Very easy to get buses or taxi's if you're not up to walking.
The only negative is that the road is very busy so there is some traffic noise in the rooms at the front of the hotel. Having the window open overnight is not an option.
Reception staff were great and very friendly, even when we arrived at 1:30 am!

Saved our visit to Budapest

Hotel Gold Buda saved our visit to Budapest, after we were unable to check in to our originally booked inner city apartment. We stayed in a family suite, with two bedrooms and a kitchenette. The interior of the suite was very tidy, clean and comfortable. The manager and staff were exceptionally helpful. We found the location good, on the main road into downtown Budapest. It's a short (although hilly) walk of about 20 minutes to castle hill and the old town, which is the most interesting area for tourists. Breakfast was included, and was excellent, of the quality found at much more expensive hotels. The hotel has limited parking at 10 euros a night, which is less than we paid for parking everywhere else on our trip. On the weekends parking is free on the street. We would definitely stay at this hotel again, and recommend it for other families and other travelers looking for a good hotel at affordable rates.

Very bad 4 stars hotel in Budapest

The lobby is very dark and the lobby lights are automatically on when you walk in. It does not feel like a 4 stars hotel but price is cheap. There is nothing in the room like free coffee or water. Bathroom towel are very old and dirty. I would not stay at this hotel again. This is the worest hotel I have ever stayed and I travel around world. Compare to 4 stars hotel in Vienna, this is like a 1 star hotel.

Buda is great for sites

Situated next to a major trunk road, this hotel is remarkably quiet; walking into Pest at night though requires a long walk along a road with a lot of traffic.

This hotel is clean and functional and is quite comfortable. Unfortunately our air con made lots of noise and barely reduced the temperature in our room; possibly the result of a very hot summer and heavy use. Beds were comfortable and we slept well, followed by an adequate breakfast with a wide range of breads, cold and hot meats, yogurt and fruit. Typical continental breakfast and certainly good enough. Coffee machine good and a range of teas.

The reception staff were very helpful and friendly and the restaurant staff tried their best.

Overall worth visiting and staying at if focussing on Buda, visiting the Citadel and huge castle area. Negatives not mentioned are:

1. Pest is the place for food and entertainment - taxi or a longish walk along a busy road.
2. I resented being charged for two it's being taken from the mini-bar when l only had one. (didn't make a fuss)
3. There is no restaurant for evening meals or a bar. Not a major thing, but when the weather is not good and you are out of town.......

WOULD WE STAY HERE AGAIN? Yes from me, no from my wife (simply based on location).

Check in was efficient considering it was 12.30 at night, the young man was very helpful and allowed us to buy a drink to take to our rooms which was much needed after the flight delays etc, breakfast was basic but enough of everything needed, the hotel was situated Buda side, a walk down the hill and you was at the bridge to base the start of your sight seeing. The day time reception staff was very informative as well and we built up a good relationship with both staff even though we were only there for two nights, would we go back, in a heart beat.

Problems with credit card payment

Everything else was very good about this hotel, except when we wanted to check out. They told already earlier that we should pay a city tax at check out. That's OK, but it turned out they will not accept credit card, only cash. On the last day of visiting the country, we did not have the full amount in local currency. Luckily, we had some euros also, otherwise this would have caused us a trip to an ATM, which was nowhere near the area. This brought our mood down, because a 4 star hotel not accepting a credit card for over 10 dollar payment -- not acceptable. Or it should be clearly stated this was exceptional for today etc. I wonder what would have happened if we had not paid for the hotel online prior to check in; only option would be cash also?

Short Break with Friend

Lovely hotel with easy access to Centre, only downside is there is nothing near by really in way of shops and restaurants due to being in a residential area. Although bus stops within a couple minutes walk which run nearly every 5 mins, missing peak traffic into Centre 5 Mins so not really a problem, also it is an easy walk as you follow road over bridge straight into Centre about 20/30 mins downhill.

Breakfast was ok, not a lot of choice, same every day managed to find something to eat if you want Eggs and Bacon you will be disappointed it is more Hungarian based.

Hotel was very comfortable nice big room facing the front, good heating and nice and quiet it might be different in the warmer season, but I would recommend the location very close to the Citadel.

We stayed at the hotel for 4 nights . We arrived late on Monday night around 10 pm and found the restaurant was closed and there was no facility's for making a hot drink . During the week the weather was wet , cold and windy. After returning to the hotel early evening because of the weather, we asked for a hot drink but the night porter refused to provide one , but after some persuasion we managed to have one delivered to the room .

Good place to stay

We have stayed in the hotel in May of 20017.
The one thing I can recommend that you ask for the room away from the traffic.
The air conditioning is about as good as a fan and on summer days it gets hot.
In May we could sleep with the windows open but only on opposite side of the main street.
The breakfast is very good and overall we liked the hotel.
Get a box of tissues yourself. The hotel doesn't provide it.

good enough, poor welcome

It was OK, hotel receptionist VERY RUDE Thursday evening 23/2/17. the larger chap. He begin to tell me that we could only stay if we gave him our house number. I explained our house had a name and he continued to argue. Rooms very noisy and all receptionists bar one who was working sat evening 25/2/17. Room was clean, breakfast was good just a shame about the staff.

Small friendly hotel offering value for money

Room was old but clean and comfortable. Good hearty breakfast. Good value for money as hotels on the Buda side are more expensive than ones on the Pest side in general. The hotel staff were super friendly and helpful. Was here for a conference at the congress center and this hotel provided much lower prices compared to the hotel at the congress center.

Good restaurant for dinner attached to hotel which is where we had our breakfast with hot & cold breakfast items, including fruits, veggies, cold cuts, cheeses, variety of Breda and sweet pastry coffee, teas, espresso... the hotel is located in one of my favorite part of the city. A wonderful park is just 2 blocks away as well as a sport club with a track.

It was further from the city centre than we thought it would be ...about a 20 minute walk and a bit longer on the way back as it was uphill.It is situated on a very busy road but when the windows are closed you cannot hear the traffic.

Botique Eco friendly hotel in Buda

Pleasant, convient hotel in Buda, 5 minute walk to the Citadel, bus stop out front to Pest, short trip across the bridge by bus. This hotel is a 6 minute walk through a beautiful neighborhood of old mansions to the Citadel. My room was new, clean with a flat screen TV with American CNN available, breakfast was included in a pleasant dining room in a small Italian restaurant attached to the hotel. The young woman at the front desk in the daytime was very pleasant and helpful in regards to giving me directions, bus numbers, ect. I would stay here again, hope to return with my young daughter and show her the beautiful and amazing city of Budapest !

Best hotel for a weekend in Budapest.

Gold Hotel is a hotel that I would highly recommend for anyone visiting Budapest. What we got for the price of the hotel was amazing. Free breakfast that had a lot of variety (more fruit would have been nice), lovely clean and luxurious bathroom - power shower. The beds were comfortable, I have slept in better, but have also slept in worse. Very friendly and welcoming staff throughout the hotel. Very pleased with our choice of accommodation.

Hotel in suburbs with good transport links.

Felt this was 3star hotel and not 4 star.Room in eaves so tall husband bumped head constantly.Couldn't see out of windows.Heavy brown furniture.Toilet separate from bathroom-not hygienic.Breakfast only average and quite expensive.Restaurant had lovely staff and food OK if you are tired and don't want to set out again at night.Small terrace on main road at front.Slept well and quiet at night.

Room was in annex. Cheap picture over bed was coming apart. Bedspread had a stain on it.Has an overgrown garden in front that no one tends to. Traffic noise. For the price, couldn't really fault it: we paid around £33 pp for the four of us for 3 nights. What we didn't realize is that we weren't staying in the hotel itself (the gold castle like building), but rather the less flattering apartments out the back. However the rooms were clean enough and had basic facilities: shower, kettle, sink and hob... The first few nights were fine but the last night the apartments did not have power between 2pm until we checked out the next day. This was not the hotel's fault (but rather work done on the road nearby) but as a result we had no heating. When we inquired at reception, the receptionist could not guarantee us complimentary rooms in the hotel (which still had power). You'd expect this in any other hotel (especially a 4*) and since it was in January, it made our last night very uncomfortable.

You may be thinking that the lack of power was a chance event but it highlights how poorly the hotel deals with matters which \"aren't their fault\".

Mini-break in Budapest

Clean and comfortable hotel. Quite well situated with close access to castle area. One huge downside is the noisy dual carriageway right next to the hotel, but it's hard to avoid the traffic in many parts of the city. There's an excellent Italian restaurant at the hotel - good food and good value for money.

Refurbished hotel in buda

This was a nice hotel; obviously recently refurbished with new lifts and electronic taps in the rooms. The rooms themselves were very clean and comfortable, with a mini bar should you wish to use it. I experienced no outside noise during my stay as the windows were very good at keeping noise from the busy road outside out and there was some aort of air con to keep the room cool.

The restaurant was small but seemed well equipped in terms of menu, although we only had drinks there no food. The breakfast was a small buffet and there aren't many places nearby to get an alternative so it might be required should you have a busy day ahead.

The front desk staff were nice, although a little grumpy when I came to pay as I didn't have cash.

Overall a nice hotel, however it's not near the night life in Pest.
If you want a good base for the castle area, citadel or baths this is a good option.

15 minute walk up to Castle Hill Hilton saves $140

Every bit as good or better than Castle Hill Hilton unless the view is worth $150 more per day. My daughter stayed at the Hilton, so I could compare it. I think the room was as good, the staff was courteous and helpful...just didn't wear the fancy uniforms, and the complementary breakfast might have been better.

Nice enough, but 'wrong side' of the Danube

We have just returned from 3 nights at the Gold Hotel. Nothing wrong with it as such : rooms are on the small side, and very basic (no tea/coffee, very little supplied in the bathroom - no tissues for example) which is not what I was expecting from a 4 star hotel. Staff were pleasant enough but be warned if you try to pay anything on credit cards - they are Not Happy!! (We had supplements added because 'the exchange rate was different', and kept pointing us in the direction of the cashpoint across the road! Hotel facilities are basic - bar shuts at 10 and there is no room service available after this - and the hotel is well out of the main city so there is nowhere nearby to go for a drink or snack. But ... hotel is very clean and beds were comfortable. Would I stay here again? No - I would much rather be in Pest where there is much more choice.

Budapest 2014 - Honeymoon

My wife and I decided to choose Budapest for our Honeymoon destination as it was recommended as a great place by many people. We can say that this is very true. The week we went was scorching hot, everyday was beautiful and made our experience so much better. It's easy to get around and lots to see. We would highly recommend Budapest to anyone but make sure you have a very good pair of walking and comfortable shoes (and a good camera too!).

The Gold hotel was lovely, the staff were friendly and very helpful. The walk down to Elizabeth Bridge was a bit steep, but the views were amazing. It is such a beautiful city and the people were nice & polite. The \"Bali Café\" in Astoria is worth a visit for the great food & \"New York Café\" for the beautiful interior.

Very good value for money

We stayed for 4 nights at the Gold Hotel and we're very pleased overall. The staff were very helpful, gave us lots of info, maps, etc... The room was very clean and quiet. The hotel was situated a little way off the commercial centre in Pest, but very convenient for both the Buda Casle area and Gellert Hill. There is a bus stop a few yards away from the hotel with very frequent buses running every 3-5 minutes and a very short ride to Pest centre.

Its a beautiful city center hotel

The hotel is right in center, very close to major sights. I could walk to the Buda Castle, Citadel, Liberty statue. I also tried a termal bath nearby. Gold Hotel is new, beautiful and comfortable. Rich buffet breakfast in the morning, comfortable nice room in the evening. Big terrace, green garden and helpful, friendly staff. Do not hesitate to book this hotel! I highly recommend!

Similar to a bed and breakfast

The property is located on a busy 5-lane street that runs east-west through Budapest on the Buda side. Although noisy outside, the rooms are quiet to the outside noise, not so much to neighboring rooms. It is about a 10 minute walk from the river and downtown. The rooms are small. During this stay, the restaurant advertised on site was not fully open and undergoing a renovation, however, breakfast was available. There is a small parking lot available for fee (10 Euros/night; may park 5-6 cars). Street parking is the next option in an older neighborhood with steep streets and parking partially on the sidewalk. The bedding is adequate but you may want to bring your own pillow. Although the room was advertised as non-smoking, there was a faint odor of cigarette smoke in the room and on my skin and clothes as I left. The rooms are air-conditioned and comfortable. There is a small refrigerator with some hotel-provided drinks available inside. There is a convenience store about 20 meters up the street that has every kind of drink or snack you could want and a very good restaurant (Janos at the Charles Hotel) 50 meters down the street. Overall, a good place to stay, reasonably priced, and close to most of the Budapest action.

a nice hotel very helpful staff, Some renovations takeing place but you hardley noticed it. Only down piont on a busy main rd with a good up hill walk from centre but it only takes 15 minutes.

Great little friendly hotel at a moderate price.

Great little hotel at an affordable price. Friendly staff. Parking inside a gated parking lot. Great free breakfast. Very clean and comfortable. We spoke no Hungarian but the desk clerk was very helpful in making telephone calls to to get information for us about restaurants and other places we wanted to visit.

Restaurant in basement had good food, attentive service, and complete buffet breakfast (included in price). Staff was very helpful in suggesting things to do and helping us find our way around. It was like going back in time to a different, more caring era. Very service oriented. We loved it!!!

Når vi fant ut av kollektivtilbudet var det veldig greit å komme seg til og fra. Ellers var det cirka 15 minutter å gå til sentrum

Fint nok værelse og noget af personalet var også super sødt og venligt.
Morgenmaden var ikke noget at råbe hurra for, noget sf personalet var ikke særlig behjælpeligt og hotellet kunne kun bruges til at sove på. Der var ikke fx elkoger på værelset eller en god sæbe på badeværelset. Der var ret lydt til de andre værelser og ud på gangen

Skuffende oplevelse slidt hotel

Morgenmad var det bedste var overbevist om jeg havde booket rum til 2 og en kingsize seng men det var der ikke, så blev vi ombooke til andet rum det var ok, der er en del støj til gaden men vi boede på siden af bygning. Elendigt Internet, men flinkt ungerne personale i morgenmafs rum men altid meget støj fra musik

AC på rummet fungerade inte, så vi fick ha öppet fönster på natten. Väldigt högt vägljud från trafiken pga. av detta.

Anlände i hotellet på kvällen efter en lång resa. På plats fick vi veta att hotellet saknade restaurang Min första kriterier vid bokning var just restaurang / kvällsmat därför fick betala för en 4* hotell. Man luras enligt hemsidan med meny och beskrivning av restaurang fast hotellet stängde restaurangen redan under corona. Blev hänvisad till närmaste hotell Charles 400m. Inte där heller finns servering på helgen Vårt rum för 3 pers i tornet ganska litet Man ställde om AC för uppvärmning fast det var 20 grader under vårt vistelse Inga normala fönster i rummet. De små gick inte öppna på grund av väldigt högtrafikerad väg framför, även på natten! Badrummet är jättelitet. Ingen krok för kläder eller flera våta handdukar. Endast 30cm bredd tork. I rummet hittar man inget informationsblad, sytillbehör inte ens en skohorn Hade högre förväntningar på frukost också. Få platser och i den mindre matrummet äckligt smutsig heltäckningsmatta. Städning i övrigt var inte som i en 4*hotell. Positiva är att personalen i receptionen och vid frukost är väldigt trevliga och ger bra service. Bra läge i centrum Kort avstånd -en kvart till Margit bron och bara några minuter till busshållplatsen.
