We recently stayed at the Protea Hotel by Marriott Kampala Skyz and, honestly, it was a mixed bag at best. We arrived early around 1:10 pm, but our room wasn’t ready yet. Check-in is supposed to be at 2 pm, but we didn’t get any updates until after 2:10 pm when we had to go ask at reception. They said the room had been ready for a while but no one bothered to inform us—definitely a communication breakdown.

We requested a quiet room but ended up with one right above the main walkway to the reception, and the property had a constant outdoor party. It was loud and made sleeping nearly impossible. Guest relations offered an apology but no solution for the noise, which was disappointing. We booked the room for two people, but the amenities and setup only covered one. To top it off, I found a long black hair on the bed linen, which looked like it came from housekeeping, and it was.

We also ordered two Eid cakes from the hotel for 10 am, but when we came to collect them at 11, we had to wait another 30 minutes because they weren’t ready.

We had to switch rooms because of the noise. The second room was quieter but looked out over the staff entrance and garbage area. By then, we were too tired to move again. All in all, while the Protea Hotel by Marriott Kampala Skyz carries a strong brand name, it felt empty on the customer service front. I’m not sure I’d stay here again unless things improve significantly.

The Guest Relations team was fantastic, keeping us in the loop and proactively apologizing for any disruptions related to the event. We really appreciated their attentiveness. The only real issue we encountered was some noise from above our room – it sounded like furniture being moved and footsteps, which continued until midnight throughout the stay. Also, we had pre-ordered a cake for Easter, to be collected at noon, but it didn't was ready until almost 1:40 PM, which delayed my program.

Excellent service, comfort but a little dated.

Hotel is situated on a hill top and relatively safe and secure. Stayed in a standard room with a shared balcony. Balcony extends to adjacent rooms but the view of the city was excellent. Room was clean, comfortable but a bit dated. Service staff were attentive and friendly. The rooms are not sound proof and the music from the restaurant and sky bar is audible in the evenings. Had a good selection of international and local food at breakfast and lunch. Recommend to enjoy the sunset views and drinks at the sky bar in the evenings or head to the well-equipped fitness room for a workout. There are a couple of supermarkets in the vicinity at the foot of the hill within walking distance from the hotel. Overall a good stay.

Hotel is in a fantastic position on top of a hill with a panoramic view of Kampala.
Staff are generally helpful and the hotel environment clean and tidy.
Quite easy to get around Kampala from the hotel and on a good day about 40mins to get to Entebbe airport.

One night they had a band that cranked up the amplifier so loud you couldn't hear yourself think inside the room. I had to move to get away from the noise. Otherwise, this is a spectacular hotel in Kampala with great views.

I came here with high hopes after an unpleasant experience at another area hotel. The pros here are many! The staff and service for the most part were incredible. The rooftop bar and restaurant (99) was amazing and I felt very welcome and well taken care of by housekeeping, breakfast staff, room service, laundry, etc. etc. They were all phenomenal. I must say that Isma, Denis, and Julius were especially stellar, as was Moses at the front desk.
The hotel is beautiful and modern, but one thing I found a bit odd is that there is no climate control (or if there is, it wasn't on) in the lobby and restaurants. The temperatures were very hot and muggy, so I just felt generally uncomfortable in the public areas, which meant I rarely left my room (where the AC was amazing!)
The most disappointing aspect of my stay was that I had stayed here just two weeks ago and had a very loud room on the front of the hotel and before I left the USA I called and requested a room that was NOT on the front side. The noise from the construction just across the fence with a concrete mixer running 15 hours a day and saws and hammering and etc etc is enough to make you crazy. When that isn't the issue, it is the parking garage where car alarms go off all hours of the night and the people that gather downstairs and outside can be heard as if they are in the room with you.
The room I got was in the same block, one floor higher. I asked about it and was told \"I am above the noise\".

The property itself was comfortable, clean, and modern. Staff were incredible in every sense. The room I had was very near the front gate on the street side and the level of noise from car alarms going off, guests coming and going, people gathering below my balcony was not the fault of the hotel, but did make it hard to relax at times.

No doubt its a beautiful property. Amazing views. Spotless. Next time I will ask for a room further from the entrance.

It is more expensive than equally nice hotels in Kampala.

Upgraded to executive suite with fantastic views of Kampala. Very spacious comfortable room, a good gym, food was delicious and everyone very helpful. The downside was the internet, which was not stable and at times the bandwidth low (<1Mb) and I never had a hot shower my entire stay. The water was lukewarm.

the staff service is completely poor facility of such quality. for a marriott managed hotel i expected much better . for staters the hotel must consider separating guest services and general information from the check in desk. as it is , the place is always overcrowded and staff overwhelmed . it makes the quality of checking in very slow. staff forget request for service when you call to request for things.

Service is terrible. I had a paid booking for a room for 3 people and they gave us a room with a single bed, and gave us the option of paying extra for another bed or sleeping on the floor. At the restaurant they don’t like it if you order a la carte, and try to force you to have the buffet dinner. Protea Marriott Entebbe is much better

After 5 visits I wont be back.

I got locked out of my Room daily. Every time I left my room I had to reprogram it. Nobody knew about my presence at the hotel and got calls to ask If I am in my room. They still do not have a gym after 2 years. From $120 - $180 in the same time period.

I had a lovely stay over 11 nights. Expedia had provided me with incorrect details at the time of my booking however, upon arrival the hotel staff were extremely accommodating and helpful and I was able to stay in the room I had wanted for the duration of my stay at no extra cost!

The only bad thing was that our room overlooked the terrace where weddings/events would take place and they were incredibly loud and could go on until the early hours of the morning. Also, we were woken up by a reminder phone call for breakfast every morning and though helpful, it was unnecessary as I rarely venture down for breakfast.

Other than this my room was incredibly clean and very spacious and everyone was very helpful. I loved the separate living room. My balcony was huge with a lovely view of the city. I would definitely return. Thank you Skyz for a truly pleasant stay!

Excellent new hotel, not yet fully open. Well situated for Jinja Road, Bweyogerere side of town. Rooms large and well equipped, with good work space in the room for business visitors. Internet is free and reasonably consistent. Mobile phone signal is variable in the area - not a hotel issue per se. Very good breakfast and room service, where the choice is limited but quality uniformly good. There are occasional functions like weddings and pool bbqs with a band that can contribute to a noise problem. There is not yet a fully functioning business centre and things like printing and scanning are done on an ad hoc basis. This needs to change to attract business visitors. Overall a great oasis in Kampala.

There is always noise at the hotel. It was my 2nd stay and am exact repeat of my last trip. Functions and music till late. A/C also makes a lot of noise, on both occasions, Difficult to get good rest. Breakfast is average with a small variety. Not sure if ill be back.
