Hotel does not provide what you book and pay for

I have stayed in many different hotels around Kampala and sadly, this Kabira Country Club is very disappointing. The hotel state on the website that the price includes full buffet breakfast and two king size beds in a 2 bedroom cottage but that is not what they gave us.

The cottage is an old house out the back that's been badly renovated. It's nothing like the hotel standard yet the price is the same. It has old double beds, old broken sofa, dirty furniture, no comfort.

After hours of arguing that they have not provided what we booked, they finally moved us to a 2 bedroom room within the actual hotel building with 1 king size bed and 1 queen bed. Still not what they advertise but at least it was an improvement.

The hotel still refused to give us the full buffet breakfast, even after hotels.com confirmed with me that breakfast was included.

It's so disappointing when you pay a lot of money for something and hotel management don't honour what they advertise on hotels.com. The hotel should take responsibility for what they advertise on booking websites - after all, the hotel is the one that uploads this information to the booking systems.

Shame on you Kabira Country Club. You are lying thieves.

Good stay but some practices to be desired

Great stay, however please confirm wi the restaurant that when you charge items to the room they convert to US$ and then reconvert back to Uganda shillings at a higher rate. This process is never explained to you. Be careful

We were late checking in because our flight delays. I pre-paid for the room, but because I was late, they sold the room and refused to give me a refund. We were forced to buy another room, so they double dipped. Very unethical. Definitely recommend staying somewhere else

My husband and I had such a great time staying at Kabira. The staf is amazing we felt very welcome.
The breakfast was the best ever dag new foods we are sure coming back.

A good option

Look, it's good not great, and you need to make sure you don't overpay. In common with all Ruparelia Group properties the location and facilities are good but the food and service are average. He's a real estate magnate not a hotelier. That said I still use Kabira Club grudgingly several times a year for ease, security and facilities.

We loved our 8 day stay at Kabira Country Club. We were in the cottage for a few nights and then moved to the Penthouse. The cottage was great, and the Penthouse was a lovely treat. I would highly recommend a stay at this hotel. Staff are ever so friendly and approachable, the sports and spa facilities on point and breakfast delicious! They made my Masala Chai every morning which she loved!

This was an extraordinarily bad experience. I was checked into two rooms in succession that had broken equipment. In the 3rd, the TV didn't work properly but by that time I just wanted to get on with my stay. When we ordered room service it arrived in a bag without napkins, condiments, bottle opener ... ridiculous! And the staff abused my girlfriend on the phone as they were not aware we had cahnged rooms as the systems were not updated. Proof if ever it was needed that good facilities need good management. Its a beautiful place in rapid decline

They checked me into a dirty room that hasnt been serviced after the last guests then we had to watch the staff basically argue about who should clean it. The facility is dated, public area washrooms are jot cleaned regularly i wouldnt stay here again

It’s not my first time in this hotel , but it was the first time I’m disappointing , coming back from work I discovered that the toilette isn’t functioning ... asked for maintenance ... it says it needs expert maintenance .... so we need to change the room , went to the other room after settling in , the aircondition wasn’t working , so they changed the room for me again .. went to the other room at 1:30 am really exhausted . I settle in then I hear a sound coming from the smoke detector and can’t sleep , they came and removed it . So maintenance is very poor , another thing the refregirator was used by me for my insulin ampoules , I came back the other day from work found that the refrigeration door wasn’t closed , because they put the bottle of water in side and didn’t care to check if it’s closed or not , so it destroyed my insulin , gladly It was my last night so I managed to survive till I went back to my country compensation given from hotel

A nice hotel with very good facilities.

I had the suite, which was very spacious. Very comfy, and with two large TV's,one in the bedroom and one in the main living area, I was able to watch plenty of sports including the premier league football matches that were broadcast.

The bar and restaurant area provided a nice place to relax and eat in the evening. Good food choice and service. Just be aware that they only accept local cash, no cards.

The gym had a great range of high quality, modern equipment. Better than most gyms I find at home, in the UK. The swimming pool is a decent size and very welcome after a busy day working.

In all, I had a very enjoyable stay with no issues. I wouldn't hesiate to come back and stay at the Kabira the next time I'm in Kampala.

The let’s down are that the rooms are very tired and need a complete over all , also the internet in the rooms is very patchy

Pros: good security, beautiful large pool with loungers, extensive all inclusive breakfast, helpful and friendly staff.

Cons: safe did not work (battery was low, so had to wait to get a key) there had not been a key for the balcony door (so had to get that fixed), wifi in first room did not work (had to change rooms), some of the ceiling lights did not work in room, had to ask for bed side lamps and hangers, one day our room had not been cleaned at all (had to ask to have it cleaned).

Excellent service and stay, even if a bit cramped

Kabira has long been an upscale hotel/resort in Kampala. The facilities are now getting a bit dated relative to 10 years ago when I first visited, but the service was still excellent. There was a minor complication in that we listed we'd have three people in the room (on hotels.com) and that was reflected on our receipt, but the room only had two twin beds. They were full otherwise so they ended up bringing in a mattress. Wasn't ideal, but management felt bad and they did their very best to accommodate. Overall, very happy we stayed.

We loved staying at Kabira. The staff were outstanding and helpful. The pool, gym, restaurant, and grounds are beautiful. The room, while plain, was clean, comfortable, and pleasant. The only negative was that our room was next to the stairs, so it could be loud in the morning.

Kabira is located in a great area- close to shopping and restaurants. The hotel itself is quiet, clean, with nice sized rooms and outstanding staff. The pools are nice as are the tennis courts and basketball court. We stayed for two weeks and found the price to be fair and appreciated that the restaurant is open 24 hours. The only negative is that our room was near the stairs so could he noisy in the morning and our room overlooked the rubbish heap so while the view was beautiful of the city, it wasn’t nice to look down and see that.

I particularly appreciated Sarah who worked in the restaurant for her outstanding service.

Kabira country club

It was amazing. We arrived at noon and since our standard room was not ready, they upgraded us to a poolside suite at no charge! It was beautiful with a balcony overlooking the beautiful grounds and pool. It had a kitchen area, living room area and separate bedroom also with a door to the balcony. It was clean and neat. The two pools were clean and the temperature of the water was refreshing. They also provided pool towels for guests. Food and drinks could also be ordered poolside. The food was also very good with an Indian section on the dinner menu. The included breakfast buffet was also substantial and delicious. We would highly recommend this hotel.

Disappointed with the room, poor value for money. Needed hotel staff to fix a few items in the room, to be fair they did this quickly,

Pool, gym and restaurant facilities decent enough.

Used the laundry service and got a rip off bill for a small bag of clothes. Took almost an hour at reception to get them to waive the charge after referring up via several managers etc

They pulled two armed guards out on me!

What i agreed upon on line was not what I got when I got there. The hotel charged me over a 1000.00 dollars more than what i had already bought, to get the room I had seen in my email. So already I'm not liking this place. The charge you for the shot of liquor, and charge you for the juice with it, no mater how much juice you get with your drink, you paying for a large juice. My drinks were so watered down, that asked to them to put only a little orange juice in my glass, and they still charged me for a large orange juice. what they call bacon is ham, and the food on the buffet looks like its been sitting out there all day. But the kicker was when I was leaving the hotel to fly back home, the hotel gave me a bill of 165.00 US dollars, for laundry. Now , being short on money at the end of my trip, did not mean a hill of beans to these people. They wanted there money, and they told me i could not leave until i paid, I told them I had no money, and would pay them when my new ATM card was sent to me from the states. The hotel called two armed guards to stand in front of my taxi, and said I could not leave, I was there hostage. Did they care if I was going to miss my flight? Was they gonna put me back in my room until I could fix this? No!! They only wanted there 165.00. I spoke to the general manager, and it was a complete wast of my time. I will never go back to the hotel that pulled armed guards out on me, and treated my life. I'm a retired Army soldier, but if this had happen

I was supposed to stay for a long time, but had a lot of issues with this place: Broken TV replaced by another broken TV; I called the staff 2 days in a row to fix it and once the answer was there was no technician and the next time, they sent an electrician who couldn't do anything about it; my shower would randomly shoot out extremely hot water that almost burned, even if I set the temperature to be cool- called staff about that and they said they'll send someone while I was away but the problem still occurred; then the power went out for half a day, meaning no running water, toilets, AC or lights and they offered no compensation for that; the toilets in the bathroom are attached to the walls and are cracking along where the attachment is- it feels like it could break off any second; breakfast at the hotel is not very good with food sitting in vats that look very old. Overall I would say I had a lot of issues and the fact that the staff was unfriendly made me cancel hotel and move to something so much better at nearly the same price.Then as I tried to leave, they tried to charge me an extra $450 in charges and I had to explain why those were wrong to two different people. Old facilities and bad service shouldn't cost so much.

Not bad for Kampala

Nice shower pressure and decent buffet breakfast. Also, nice pool (even a separate kids' pool) and supervised playground for kids to play on. The room advertised on Expedia was not what I got (no microwave or kitchenette), so I had to upgrade as I was traveling with kids. Also, hotel refused to refund last two nights of my stay when I needed to go home early. One time we ran out of toilet paper and it took over 24 hours for them to bring more. But hey, it's Uganda!

Haemophilia Uganda

A short business trip doing haemophilia education at Mulago hospital. Staff were all amazingly kind and helpful. I will come back next year!
