The staff doesn't speak English but the room is although not fantastic. The lift and reception is very old and does not look like a real hotel but the staff is friendly. Internet is not working well. Really slow or not working at all.

There are four reasons:
1. Things do not work - I was put in a room where the aircon did not work. - I was moved to a room where the TV did work.
2. There was a smell of sewerage i the bathroom.
3. The staff were helpful, but extremely difficult to comminicatye with.
4. The wifi is an op[en and insecure system therefore could not use.

great location near east nanjing road, the major pedestrianised shopping street in shanghai. it's also close to the subway station on line 2 (which goes to both major airports in shanghai). the dining option nearby, this being shanghai, are also fantastic and range from the cheapest to the most expensive (michelin starred stuff) and overpriced. a bowl of suzhou style noodle nearby costs 15 yuan (something like £1.6), and tastes better than almost any chinese place in london, all of which are overpriced and often tastes worse than my own cooking. rooms themselves are nice and functional. anyway, highly recommend this place.

This property is tucked away but don’t let this put you off booking it. It’s a 5 min walk from Easr Najing Road metro station and you can walk to the bund for the view of the sky scrappers in about 15 minutes.
The hotel itself, the staff are friendly even though they speak no English, the use translation apps to answer any questions. Super helpful.
The room itself was amazing for the price I paid. The bed was super comfortable and I slept really well after a long day sightseeing.
I was given the room which had a seoerste bedroom, lounge area and bathroom. I had no complaints at all.
Location is a winner and I was super comfortable during my 3 night stay.
I would happily stay here, if I was to visit Shanghai again

Overall a good stay, only complaint is that the listing says they have laundry, but there were no laundry machines on site. This was one of the reasons I booked the place over others. Otherwise, it was a very good stay with comfortable bed and spacious room and bathroom.

This hotel is in a fantastic location (thanks to the staff for sending a map, it is down the darker end of the street), super close to East Nanjing Rd and the Bund. The person at the desk upgraded us to a bigger room as we had to wait a while to check in. The room was indeed bigger than we'd booked and very comfortable, just with some open steps up to the bed that were a little scary in the dark! Everything was fine for us as a cheap one-night stay in Shanghai, no issues. Free bottled water was also appreciated.

Loved this place and would happily stay here again.
Look for the old Shanghai Bank building on the corner where there’s an overpass and that’s your best landmark for finding the place.
I had to check in at 1am due to a hassle with my flight and it still went smoothly. Great having a noon checkout too.
Some lovely local restaurants nearby. Fantastic value for money and very close to the East Nanjing subway station (5mins).

Hard to find location. Small entrance is more like a hostel than a hotel. I would rate 2.5 stars. World's smallest lift.
Not all front dest staff speak English as other reviewers have said. But they are friendly and helpful.
10 minute walk to the number 1 tourist attraction in Shanghai, the Bund. Close to the Bund Sightseeing Tunnel entrance which brings you within 15 minute walk of the Oriental Pearl Tower, a must do attraction.

DO NOT STAY HERE

We arrived at the Fish inn Bund after 24 hours of travelling to find that there was a problem with our room and we had to change to their sister hotel. Our DELUX suite that was booked was totally disgusting and were moved to a regular room with no window. Note, we were still paying the delux rate. As a compromise the hotel said they would give us breakfast for 2 of the 3 days we were booked. The first day they could not give us the full breakfast as the “security police” were present and the second day they hadn’t planned for us so they ran out of food. TOTALLY unacceptable and disgraceful. I do not recommend anyone stay at either the Fish Inn Bund or the Fish Inn East Nanjing. Very, very unprofessional.

A gem in Shanghai

The Fish Inn from the outside looks quite unassuming, but the rooms and the staff are so nice! We had booked a deluxe room and it was huge. It was on two levels with a king size bed and lovely bedding. The room was nicely decorated and very clean. Sleeping area and sitting area had two separate TVs and two Aircons and there were free soft drinks in the fridge. The toiletries in the bathroom included body lotion and conditioner, which I personally appreciate. The standard rooms are of the same high standard, just smaller and on one level. The location is also great, 2 min walk to subway and Nanjing Street, 5 min walk to the Bund. I can't recommend this hotel enough!

Excellent value for money, the best hotel we stayed at in China, Shifted to this Hotel after finishing an Intrepid tour through China.
Location very convenient about 5 minutes to walk to metro, friendly helpful staff, small and cosy, close to The Bund. Certianly would return to stay at this Hotel if in Shanghai. We always travel with ear plugs to assist sleeping when we are in hot climates and want to keep the a/c on overnight. We liked the firm bed. And the room was fresh and clean.

The hotel is probably renovating and upgrading from hostel. New suits are rather good. It's a very clean and friendly 2.5 star hotel. Or Asian 3 star, if you don't have high expectations. Cosy and tidy. No breakfast, expensive but tasty coffee in the lobby. The location is great! 5 minutes walk to the main shopping street and the subway (the airport line n.2), 10 minutes walk to the Bund promenade. English speaking and helpful stuff

The hotel was pleasant enough and the staff lovely. However it is expensive compared to what you can get in other districts.
We had a standard double on the ground floor - the bedroom standard was good however the bathroom plumbing was terrible and the room smelt of the sewer. This meant having to keep the windows open and bathroom door shut. As it was ground floor, our room faced into a family’s courtyard so there was consequently lots of noise in the morning. If you stay here I would strongly recommend requesting a room not on the ground floor.

Perfect location!

Perfect location for the price! The Bund, East Nanjing Road and East Nanjing Metro station all within a 10 minute walk. This hidden gem was perfect for our stay during the Chinese New Year / Spring Festival celebrations. Professional, helpful and efficient staff who were all able to assist in very good English to accommodate our non-existent Chinese language skills. We had 2 rooms for our group - a standard room and a Deluxe Suite. Both were well equipped - the showers, tea/coffee making equipment and powerful hairdryers deserve a mention - and there is daily housekeeping. The rooms do not have views and the hotel is hidden away, but the service, affordable rates and proximity to all the major attractions, restaurants and shops certainly compensate for that! The Shanghai Metro system is user-friendly and easy to use - with all relevant communication in English as well. We used the Metro extensively for exploring Shanghai and even visited Shanghai Disney (1 hour travel time) and Zhujiajiao Water Town (90 minutes travel time) using the Metro. The Fish Inn Bund comes highly recommended!

Inexpensive and conveniently close to the Bund

I stayed here during an 18 hour stopover in Shanghai. For that it was pretty much ideal. By no means a grand hotel, it was the inexpensive for the location and had everything I needed, it was very clean with a comfortable bed, good shower, free wifi and was within walking distance of the Bund. A relatively long ride from the Maglev station but that is not expensive if you find an honest taxi driver. (Beware in that regard, there are some really bad apples). There is a subway station close by too if you have the time to go that route. The reception staff were uniformly polite. I arrived around 9:30 a.m. which was long before official check in time, so they upgraded my room for free to one that was immediately available. When I checked out late that evening the receptionist was very helpful in ordering me a taxi. I didn’t see any of the other staff, or many of the other guests, just one family with young kids who seemed very happy. I think it would be fine for an inexpensive few days in Shanghai.

A Tourist Stop Dream

This location is so convenient to do tourist-y things in Shanghai. Directly next to the Henderson mall and a Subway stop off of line 2 & 10 (East Nanjing Road). A super short walk to the Bund, 1 stop away from Yuyuan Gardens, close access to anything you could want! (Especially yummy dumplings at Yang's!)

Highly recommend this small place. Overnight stay for a long flight layover. Maglev FAST train to line 2 metro, then six stops and I was there in an hour from PVG. I asked a German student on leaving the metro and he walked me that way. But once arrived, I found out there are 2 locations. Young woman staffer walked me three blocks to the right one! And more helpful staff at this one too. Euro-sized room was big enough. The janitor's cart was in the hallway on the main floor, by my room. Maybe they don't have space to store it away, but it was unsightly.

In short a fantastic location, great staff, no traffic noise and simple room with simple bed at a very attractive price (the price was some $65 incl. taxes per night). Air conditioning is efficient and almost noise free.
metro line 2 a couple of minutes walk away offers a direct connection to both airports (ca 1 hour from PVG). Nanjing road 3 minutes walk away while the Bund is a 10-15 minutes walk. Museum and People's place just 20 minutes away and the wonderful Yu Garden some 30 minutes walk away.
Staff is very helpful and speak good English.

The Fish Inn- Bund- is a nice hotel which is conveniently located very near exit 6 of East Nanjing Rd- line 2. The basic rooms are really basic so I'd recommend spending a bit more and upgrading. For about £120 more we stayed in a nice, big room with a very nice bathroom and a terrace.

I enjoyed my stay at Fish Inn. It was in a great location very near the shopping street with a convenience store across the road. The staff were friendly and could speak English. My room was very clean, however there was a \"fishy\" odor that I believed came from the sink (is that why it's called Fish Inn?). The room was small, but I made it's workable. I would stay here again if I can get the same the rates. They're able to hold your luggage too if you have a late flight.

Stayed for three nights and consistently found the night receptionist rude and unhelpful. The others were better but customer service is still lacking. Room on the ground floor was spacious but extremely noisy as is located right next to reception and the walls are paper thin. Could also hear noise from the two rooms on either side so don't bet on sleeping past 7am! Breakfast is not included in the room rate but is cheap and forgettable - probably best to find something in a nearby shop.

The Fish Inn is a decent hotel at a good price. Its main advantage is its location. It is a ten minute walk from the Bund. The room itself had a lousy view but was otherwise just fine. There was an odor of air freshener. The bed was comfortable. The staff speak English and were very helpful with information and getting a taxi, &c..

I was really impressed for the price paid. It's super easy to find from the subway (exit 5 and walk straight pretty much!) wasn't expecting wifi because it says wired internet so that was a bonus. My wife found this place and it was a great find! Location is just near the Line 2 (exit 5) MRT.
You can walk to the touristy \"walking street\" or go around the side streets to find local shops and restaurants
where local folks eat. To our surprise, there was the famous \"Xiao Yang Shen Jian Bao\" (Yang's Dumplings), a
must try in Shanghai. 8 years ago it was only one location but now they have franchised.
I would recommend this place to anyone - great pricing! This will be my go to place for Shanghai (PuDong).

Location great. From the airport, come out of Nanjing Road East from line 2 at exit 6 or 7 and just head up the road. Couldn't be easier. Easy to walk to the Bund and Nanjing Road. From there, anywhere is easy on the metro.

Rooms clean and equipped as you would want. Bathroom clean and functional. Unfortunately lots of noise carrying into the room, particularly on the Saturday night. Staff were very helpful. Breakfast didn't seem worth the cost and there are plenty of places nearby - even bakeries and grocers to buy your own.

The room was not acc. to the photos. Additionally the heating in our room was not sufficient and we slept there 2 hrs with all clothes on until we decided to leave and to find a better hotel.
So we can not understand from where the high rating for this hotel was originated.

This is was a great stay! Unfortunately, it seems all of China is under construction in January when it isn't expecting many tourists. The hotel was undergoing some construction which made the hallways look a little unkempt. The room it's self was very large and lovely. The bed/sleeping area raised and partitioned away. It was clear that the room sometimes has smoking guests, as the smell lingered in the couch. The staff was friendly and helpful, offering advice on where to get good local dumplings and helping make sure the heater was on the correct setting.

Totally Disappointed and never Again!

It was an unpleasant stay as there was renovation going around the hotel. The hotel should at least informed the guests the situation before the guests confirm the room. I think this is totally not professional as we(the guests) after travelling for many hours from home deserved a comfort place to rest. Even i requested to upgrade my room to a different room, they refused without considerating our discomfort. During my two days stay, all I have was noises from the renovation crew even in the morning! II IS TOTALLY NOT VALUE FOR MONEY! I am totally disappointed with this hotel and will not consider at all to stay here again, as the comfort of guests is never their first priority!

Pleasant Stay in Shanghai began at Fish Inn Bund

As my Mandarin is near non-existent, and after travelling through Beijing and Zhang Jia Jie, arrived in Shanghai expecting more of the same language barriers. However, I was pleasantly surprised at Shanghai Fish Inn Bund when the staff (Ivy) greeted us in English. I did try to speak in Mandarin but, as mentioned, i was proven to be am hopeless at it.
Shanghai Fish Inn Bund also accommodated our request for an earlier check in and a later check out due to the flight schedules. This was particularly appreciated as we were really tired from the red eye and delayed flights.

Thanks to Astrid and Ivy - we had a pleasant stay at Shanghai Fish Inn Bund.

Booked this hotel based on hotel guests rating and was deeply disappointed.
A typical local budget hotel with fanciful name and English speaking front desk staff. Check-in was slow, the room was poorly lit and smell moldy. You can imagine the TV is still the old traditional cathode ray type!

Very good location near Bund and Nanjing Street.

This Inn was in a very good location. I truly appreciated the little sign they had on their desk in English to be aware of where you are and what to watch out for. This was just a nice little gentle reminder for all guests. The room was unique having the mattress on the floor, but was very clean room. Front desk staff made every effort to talk in English and other staff would quickly get someone that could speak English if you had a question ... very accommodating.
Location was excellent as it was a short walk to the Bund and to Nanjing Street ... just loved the city.

Good location but a little dated...

Great location, close to the popular Line 2 East Nanjing road station, so it's super easy to find and get around. Also close the bund and other tourist attractions. Although when I got there they were renovating the whole first floor, and my room was initially in the middle of this 'mess'. Thankfully they managed to move me to another room but both rooms looked a little sad and dated. Exposed electrical cables from the walls and ceiling (looks like there was supposed to be a light hanging there but it was clearly missing) made it look a little bizzare. Also found a cockroach in my bathroom... apart from that the stay was reasonably comfortable. Night staff were particularly friendly. Maybe when they finish renovating and it will feel and look better like in the photos!

Budget hotel

It was not easy to find the hotel. Taxi drivers were not able to take passengers that did not have the address in Chinese/Mandarin.
The hotel was going through renovations. This is not the first time it happens to me. It would be nice if there was a notice on Expedia so that the customer knows what they are buying.
This hotel also has shared double doors between certain rooms. That is unusual. Would work fine for a family of 4-5. The staff at the hotel was kind enough to give me another room that had only one door, no connecting doors to another room.
Breakfast was great!
